Personally, becoming type 1 diabetic at age 13 is honestly awful. Everything how I lived was set in stone, and I was forced to change it all. I will never forget how easy life was, and want a cure more than anything.

My heart goes out to you I'm also type 1 diabetic it is hard any age but I do really feel it's especially tough having it young for kids/teenagers getting this disease. Anyone who lives with it understands how tough it can be, the thing is there is no day off you have to nurse it everyday with highs and lows. I do anything not to have it. We deserve to have a cure 🙏

I've been a Type 1 for 53 years. If I could get rid of it I would. I've learned to take good care of myself and I do well. I hate this disease. I don't live in that mind set but it's a very difficult disease to have. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

God, yeah, give me a cure, is this guy nuts? He’s only had it for 15 years, when he gets to 48 years, I bet he’s changed his mind. I get it, he hasn’t let it affect him, I was like that too. I have a 4th Dan black belt, I ran marathons and I ride motorcycles, my biggest achievement is having my Daughter. But…… there’s complications that I have , just for having it for so long, not through bad control. Yeah, give me a cure the second it comes out. I also bet you that he’s in the que too!

I am a Type 1 diabetic too it doesnt matter how long you have this disease, you still wish you never had it, I feel for everyone who is a Type 1 Diabetic. People who don't live with it, don't know how lucky they are, its a 24/7 disease day in day out. Only people who live with it everyday would understand and that goes for parents who's child has it too. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

My 10 year old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes four days ago, and watching this has massively inspired him. We have so many people contacting us saying they are incredibly sorry to hear the news and how devastated we must feel. Whilst he appreciates their concern, Alexander feels they really have no idea about diabetes and that it is not as scary as they think. He relishes the consistency and self-awareness and self-reliance that comes with his condition and he is already applying to his life. Obviously this is just the very start of a lifelong path and there will naturally be challenges along the way but I'm so proud of his attitude and approach to something so many see as a tragedy. It is not, he will be more than fine. He is a very intelligent, caring, capable and resilient individual and I am so incredibly proud of how he is dealing with diabetes type 1. Thank you for your words, they have solidified his determination to not only handle this new challenge but to turn it to an advantage.

Dad had just retired from his 22 yr USAF career. Was right at the time to apply, when I was diagnosed. Was actually treated at the USAF Academy Hospital for my 1st week with T1. having diabetes type 1 and not knowing about it is the WORST. You'll go down in weight, NO matter how much you eat. You'll wake up at night 3-5 times to go pee (for around 20 seconds each time). You'll get cramps at night because you lose so much magnesium when peeing so much. These are few of the things that happens. You can train however much you want, but you won't go up in weight. The body instead of using glucose as energy, it starts using the fat and muscles as energysource, which produces toxins in the body. ALL of these things go away, if you stablize it with insuline.

Year late but it needs to be said. She can't be a military doctor. She can be a civilian doctor working for the military but she will never be part of the armed forces. I come from a military family. My dream since i was a child was to join the military. I was diagnosed at 13 with type 1 diabetes and it completely crushed my dream. Im sorry, i know first hand how devastating it can be to want to join the military but unable to do so because of a medical condition. However, it is not fair to your daughter to tell her she can be a military doctor when she can't. you are giving her false hope that will be crushed when she goes to a recruiter and is declined because of her diabetes. She can be a civilian doctor working for the military.

This is a major difference. My diagnosis when I was 4 years old had a lasting negative impact on my mental health. I got PTSD that still affects me to this day and my life would be as different as anything without it. I would be able to go outside by myself, I wouldn’t be triggered by hospitals or doctors with needles, I would be free. I would give anything to have my childhood back where I could be carefree, I would give anything to not be scared and screaming and crying in fear, to not have memories of utter terror through my life. I can’t relate to other type 1 diabetics because of this, because my experience was so scary I thought I was dying, I wasn’t calm, or thinking of it like just another illness - I was a 4 year old faced with a fear of death and it haunts me to this day. Hearing this, I just feel lonelier than ever.

I'm glad you have found a way for your disease to motivate you. You must have had lots of support from your family to be able to afford to travel the world climbing mountians and running across deserts. Everything is easier when you're independently wealthy. When Type 1 diabetics compete in the real world, they find they are at a disadvantage in almost all areas of life because of their disease.

Also, I am assuming he lives outside of the US. Many countries like Canada and European nations don't allow pharmaceutical companies to price gouge diabetics as they do here in the US. Not trying to take away from his message, but certain circumstances can add even more stress to an already stressful disease.

What i realized when i diagnosed was that i only had one option to be strong.... Its wasnt if or not,,, it was i had to do it. I am now a long and midle distance runner. Running is my life. I became much more stronger than i had ever been. I wouldnt be that much strong both mentallly and physically if i wanst diagnosed with the deases. I dont mean to have diabetes is a good thing, but it is possible to find a lot positive things out of it. I felt that narrative was my story when i listened that video. Thanks a lot.

we have created a situation where positive thinking is almost living in a non reality. I say this as a counselor and type 1 for 36 years. Type 1 can stop you doing all sorts of things that are out of your control; however, what is not out of your control is how you deal with what happens to you. When i developed retinopathy I thanked the universe for saving my sight, traveled around the world and took a job in a charity helping visually impaired people live independently on my return. Now I have no hypo warning signs and cant drive-i wear a sensor. I had to rethink my job but actually love not driving because i feel less stressed. I have days where i feel crap and days where I feel great. This is very natural and not a sign of not being positive. As a community we should look after each other with this condition and someone's positive story does not mean others shouldn't have their own way of being positive ( we all have different quirky ways) and when someone finds this condition hard to live with its bad enough that people with no knowledge of the condition condemn them - we surely should support them. Believe me as someone who has had type 1 diabetes most of my life, there is no place for complacency because even with very good control type 1 diabetics can develop problems so stay positive, determined and show empathy to others with the condition because it really does pay dividends in the end.

I’m not glad about Type 1 Diabetes at all. I’m not glad I’ve had to deal with this for nearly 40 years. I’m not glad I couldn’t buy health insurance at any price for half of my adult life. I’m not glad that I live at near-poverty levels because the insulin that is most effective for me isn’t covered by the only health insurance plan I can get and costs me around $28,000 a year. I’m not glad I have to be hospitalized when I get a 24-hour stomach virus. I’m not glad that, despite decades of carefully monitoring blood sugar, I have constant pain in my hands and feet, and have vision problems, and have a very hard time fighting off infections. I’m not glad that I have to maintain an extremely tightly controlled daily schedule in order to keep from having dangerous blood sugar swings, keeping me from anything that might delay a mealtime or change the amount of exercise I get. This prevents a lot of travel, because you never know when something out of your control might force you into an impossible situation. Type 1 Diabetes is an awful thing. To pretend otherwise is to be delusional. You probably also believe that a magic man in the sky can read your thoughts and could do anything he wants (but he apparently never wants children to be cured of Diabetes).

T1 for 42 years. all 6 in family diabetic, 2 T1s, 4 T2s, 3 dead from complications. Please look in to the very low carb lifestyle and the insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor. Dr. Richard Bernstein Dr. Michael Eades dsolve.com thincs.com cholesterol skeptics Low Carb Down Under channel My life really changed when I started doing really low carb (under 30g/day). The pump is great; I rarely think of my insulin. Will be getting a CGM. I haven't listened to the video, and I get everything you're saying. The mainstream medical society has LIED to us all this time, lies built on false science. High glucose is bad, but high INSULIN is worse! That's what causes the cardiovascular issues. What doctor will give you insulin and tell you to eat a low carb diet? None! Because they don't want to be responsible for your lows! But it's so much easier to balance BG on a lowcarb/ketogenic diet! I rarely have lows! These are just a few of the veins of gold information I've found. Keep searching. Diabetes is not a death sentence. Now we can control it! Blessings to you, David.

Get Dr Richard Bernstein's book "Diabetes Solution". You don't need to be hospitalised for a 24 hour bug if your blood sugars are normal and you can stop the vomiting. You don't get type 2 diabetic neuropathy if your blood sugars are normal. Most type 1s also have type 2 diabetes and it's unbelievably sad.

At that age you want to go out with friend and eat with them, but I wasn’t able to do that sometimes because I had to wait to give me another injection (insulin) Nowadays It’s still like that. And you feel like an outsider. And It’s totally bullshit when someone says that your eating healthier because of diabetes, no, you can eat every shit you ate before - you just have to inject more. You can drink just a little bit alcohol because It‘s dangerous to drink more (I don’t drink much alcohol but when, you have to check every damn time your f*cking bloodsugar) you have to check your sugar when you are doing sport, bevor you go to bed blablablaba. It‘s so annoying. But I’m thankful that It’s diabetes and not cancer or diseases like that, with diabetes you can life even though it’s really hard sometimes- but you can

Love this video! I was diagnosed at age 16 and I’m 60 now. Diet and exercise are the key. I never get sick and can’t run circles around most of my “normal” friends and acquaintances. Diabetes has it challenges but it’s not a death sentence. Everyone has some sort of cross to bear. I feel fortunate my diagnosis has forced me to pay more attention of what I put in my body and take care of myself. 😊

Agreed! However, the pros can be found based on how we view things and the audience will never ever be interested to hear the negatives! The speaker did great delivering a spectacular optimistic, logical presentation. I have had it for one year at 23 years old and I didn’t accept the fact I will have it forever except if cure is found which is most likely not gonna happen also some factors involved along my diagnosis may have a bigger impact on me more than type 1 diabetes itself, yet I am more accepting now because of that I got support and circumstances have changed as well as there is a wise saying that “no sadness nor happiness last forever” cheers wish you good health.

If it makes you feel any better I dont necessarily have to tell anyone. People end up finding this out themselves.... The trick to it though is to not skip out on insulin entirely BUT skip just enough to were you never have to worry about your weight ever again.

Nobody wants it. I don't want either type of diabetes, so I eat in a way known to stave off type 2 (low carb, enough protein, fill with fat) which also would make type 1 easier to manage if I got it.

It seems as though his primary language is french, hence his name and the accent while speaking in english. English switches pronoun every 3 digits added, french adds it every 2 digits. For example the number (77) is "seventy-seven" in english, yet, "soixante-dix-sept" in french, which translates to something along the lines of "sixty and ten plus seven" and yes, it does make for a very cumbersome approach to expressing numerics. This is probably why english is superior to french, and I speculate chinese superior to english, for conducting mathematics in general, or "mathigrammatics" if you will ;)
