I think he really should do an overall guide that compares and contrasts everything. I'm not going to go through his 1000 moodswings where he gives partial thoughts and maybe compares it to an amp or a modeler and doesn't give any real depth analysis. Every video is at a different point in his "tone journey". I want to know what is best for what purpose, and why someone might prefer a QC over a Helix, or an HX Stomp over a QC, and what might be better on a budget pedal like the Ampero. What are you losing from using the Ampero over the HX Stomp? Is the difference worth it? This guy is so smart and pulls amazing tones out of everything he uses, so I'm very partial to his input. But at a certain point, I'm really not gonna spam every video from 201X-2024 when his overall knowledge is changing and swinging constantly at every video. It makes me want to take his older videos with a grain of salt, because he might contradict himself. I support the grind, the content generation, etc. But it sometimes feels like I stop listening and can't get all the way through like I used to.

I really think this is what happens once you start to put a set-up on the road. Simplicity rules. So extra pedals go, lots of presets don't get used, and a whole lot of effects like reverbs and delays, tremolo, and heavy overdrives get left out because they don't really work live as they do in the studio or solo. As a live player myself I can see exactly what John is getting at.
@loopie007

Simplicity rules. Good reason why Boss pedals are everywhere. Reliable, easy to source if broken, each does one thing. Now we have products like the Stomp that can really outdo single pedals, are shown to be reliable, and you can source or have a backup ready easily. Lots of presets are available online. I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing bigger names running these little boxes. If your ego requires a giant pedalboard, then off to the next video. It would be interesting to see Vertex setup a pedalboard abound this setup.

@@loopie007 I think you're right. I was considering using a Helix Stomp I bought a while back and a couple of pedals - the more I understand the Helix Stomp the more I think it's nothing but the Helix - dump the pedals.

I get plenty of output using a Tone X One with my ToneMaster FR-12 cab and using the Super Reverb patch set for a clean tone and I have a really great clean tone and can switch from that to my other overdriven amp patch and get great clean and overdrive tones. And what I love about the Tone X One is the ease of use at setting levels by just switching channels and adjusting the levels and the pedal remembers them without any complex setup. And all in a mini pedal. I love that. I can also get plenty of output volume with my Boss IR-200 into the Tone Master FR-12 which I also love. I much prefer simplicity and to be able to change things on the fly. I’d like to try the HX Stomp though.

For the output volume being quiet, do you have the output set to instrument level or line level in the global settings? It makes a pretty big difference when I run it into my power amp.

This layout is excellent. You can set up three snapshots for clean, rhythm, and lead and have the 2nd delay and drive to add or remove for each patch like a pedalboard rig by using the two-button switch. I played around with this last night, and it is so flexible. Thanks!

Have you tried running a power amp and speaker with any of the modelling/preamp things you've got? A mate of mine who's being doing some cool gigs has been running a modeller (in his case an Atomic Amplifire) and taking a sub out to a TC Electronic BAM 200 to drive a rented cab.. and he's been very impressed. Apparently, he heard about it from the Fractal forums .. dunno if you've tried anything similar?

I like the flexibility of my Stomp, but I really miss the squishiness of my tube amp (Carr Mercury). Running the output of the Stomp into the effects return on my D20 is ok. I’m thinking a FRFR might be what would work best for me.

Do you use the tuner in the Hx Stomp? Recently I tried using the Hx Stomp with a dual switch. One switch turns on and off chorus and delay and the other one controls the tuner and tap tempo. Wich is cool but sometimes I think I’d like to use the second switch to activate a overdrive pedal. I could do it but I don’t want to lose access to the tuner and have to use a headstock tuner. Any thoughts?
@joegriffithsmusic
@joegriffithsmusic 16 күн бұрын
Got two solutions for you. One option is to assign one of the footswitches to control the page scroll, then you can get onto the stomp mode and control the pedals/effects from that. Then you can keep the other footswitch as a tap tempo/tuner. The other way is to get a midi controller. Something a DMC micro allows you to control like 6 extra effects + preset changes. Plus you can plug your dual footswitch into the midi pedal so you can have even more footswicthes if you want. It also frees up the expression pedal input to connect that directly to the stomp, this is how I'm running it

@creditslut2726 15 күн бұрын
If you don’t mind using your fingers to access the tuner, and you don’t use tap tempo, you can press the page > and action buttons at the same time to access the tuner, freeing up a footswitch for something else. Maybe not ideal if you’re playing live, but works great at home.

I keep wanting to love the HXStomp, but it just doesn't make me love it. The GT1000 Core always surprises me, despite my resistance to it. Paired with the Two Notes Opus, it's hard to beat. It's more expensive, I guess, but it really works, especially for the feel, probably due to the latency. Having the versatility of power supply (HX stomp's Power handling problems) and latency is super accessible. Would love to hear your thoughts on that setup.

Still super pleased with my HX Stomp after you inspired me to puck one up. @ 5:24 , did you mean to plug the footswitch into the Send jack? I suspect it was an absent minded mistake while talking. Depends on the gig, but sometimes I enjoy the simplicity of the stomp. I'm in two bands and, while one is a more new wave tinged pop rock that requires many FX heavy sounds, the other is a more industrial rock focused one where I mostly focus on gain sounds. With the latter I find the stomp more than capable of giving me tones I want and some quirky FX to spice things up when I feel like it, the only extra things I need are the two extra switches I have attached on it (thanks Pedalnetics), Digitech Drop and a Line Isolator. Even If it's been in my arsenal for years I'm still amazed at how capable that pedal is

Maybe you could copy your presets for a total of three presets and then set up snack shots different in all the presets. All you need is a split second before the switching will take a action. Not everything has to be instant. And so doing instead of three snapshots, you could have maybe nine snapshots.specially if only piece of gear you have is the Check stomp.
