I am so excited to be moving. It is going to set me up for my next NEXT move I am looking forward to so much! 🥳
I have enjoyed my time in Charleston, but it is just not for me and I explain why in this video. I hope you enjoy it. Charleston, South Carolina is a great city with a lot of potential and I think it suits people who desire a slower and more relaxed lifestyle. Before we get into that, I explain what I'm looking for in a city.

Lived in Charleston for 2 years on a work assignment and the charm wore off in a matter of months....lol. I tried everything from boat tours, carriage rides, food tours, cooking classes, fishing, park tours, site seeing historic districts, local theater shows, farmers market and attended concerts from local upcoming artists (majority genres I didn't like just wanted something to do). The people I worked with were locals and they would always invite me to hang out with them. Even that got boring cause it entailed either eating & drinking at a restaurant or eating & drinking on a boat or eating & drinking in someone's backyard. As a bonus, sometimes music and games would be played. After awhile, I gave up on my scavenger hunt for adventure because it wasn't worth it (traveling time, gas prices, ticket costs, etc.) so I spent the rest of my time there staying at my apartment having movie nights 🤣. A few people also told me they drive to Charlotte, NC or Atlanta, GA for fun on weekends. At the end of the day, it is what it is. I met people who love it there but Charleston isn't for everyone and that's okay. No place is perfect. The most important thing is finding a place that best suits YOU and YOUR needs. That’s sounds all too familiar. 😂 A lot of people from SC move to Charlotte and Atlanta so it is fun to visit to catch up and explore what they have to offer. Charleston definitely didn’t meet my needs and it didn’t help that every friend I made moved or was planning to move. 😭 What I’m looking for is expensive and that is the dilemma. I am from Philadelphia, lived in CHS x 5 years and left for all the reasons you mentioned. I returned to my home city and am so happy with my decision!

I’ve been in Charleston for 4.5 years and I am itching for our move ! I personally feel Charleston has been a fun pit stop but it would never be a place I would want to settle with my family . We are moving to TAMPA next 😊

Im the reverse Im in tampa and looking to move elsewhere. Tampa is very overpriced for what it is. I live in south tampa which is a nice area but its really pricey. Driving is kind of a nightmare here, and people are kind of rude. A lot of people are moving here in the past couple years. in general it kind of looks like a midwestern strip mall everywhere. The architecture is meh. The beaches are nice though but theyre a ways from tampa in traffic. Id say theres a reasonable amount to do. Ive been here for like 15 years so thats my take.

Consider NC, like Charlotte, Raliegh, or Durham. Apple is moving its new Headquarters to The Raliegh, Durham area, and Charlotte has the top professional sports Pro Football and Basketball. All have much to do. Raliegh has pro hockey. The Collegiate level sports are big, with UNC and Duke leading the way. Whatever you decide, Good Luck!

Born and raised in Brooklyn so i miss having sense of community and great public transportation. The only cities that are kinda affordable & walkable are buffalo ny, DC metro, Pittsburgh, Chicago

Pretty late to the comment section here lol but thank you for these videos! I’m a young, single entrepreneur that works remote and can really live anywhere, and Charleston was on my list of potential places. After seeing your vids I’m not so sure I’d like it, based on a lot of the things you said. I’m currently in (and have grown up in) the Atlanta metro area and absolutely love it. We always have things to do, great food, mostly reliable public transportation 😂, concerts and events always come here, and diversity and inclusion isn’t even a question. You’ve probably already made your next move but I’d say consider Atlanta sometime! I’ve always loved it here. Only reason I’m planning to move is to branch out and have new experiences.

You're welcome! A lot of people are moving to Charleston, but it's very much "relaxed" is the best way for me to put it. Not bad, but not a lot of things to do that I am interested in. I'm glad you found the video useful. 😊 I have friends in Atlanta because I went to school in Georgia, but it's not really for me. I actually will be spending some time there shortly so maybe I'll change my mind. 😂

Interesting. I just read that Charleston was voted the best small city in the US this year. I was curious. Walkability is among the most important features for me in a town for sure. I'm also an introvert, but I like to live a LIFE.

I’m an introvert who likes to live a life too. Depending on where you live, it’s more walkable, but I wouldn’t say it’s a consistent feature throughout the area.

I live in Charleston as well I can tell you yes traffic is a headache,, from Goose Creek to Hannahan and getting onto the peninsula. I have to commute Mon-Fri for Radiation at Hollings . Early Mornings are the Worst when I had worked at MUSC in the Ashley River Tower I had to leave early. I prefered the nightshift better than day.

I'm thinking about relocating myself after treatment is done and there's no sign of disease activity maybe so,, I have a Wonderful team at MUSC and I hate to look for good doctors all over again they practically saved my life because Roper Hospital missed that tumor I had .

You forgot to mention the high South Carolina taxes. Born and raised there and I agree with you post 100%. Charleston is going through a major gentrification, and they want to no longer be remembered for their past history. This is the reason for those high prices for small living spaces. For anyone moving or thinking of moving think twice. The cost of living is expensive.

NYC but way too expensive. I would check out smaller cities in the northeast - Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are 2 worthwhile options. Atlanta could work. I'm pondering Greenville for different reasons

It’s definitely growing and I’ll be interested to see if that’s a positive thing long-term just in terms of developing land and whatnot. A lot of people moved here once they were able to work remotely. I do feel that’s it’s a settle down atmosphere, there are things to do if you search, but it’s very family oriented. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I definitely want something that can be good for a variety of lifestyles.

Congrats, I hope your move goes well! I recommend not living far from where you’ll be working if possible. Traffic can be bad depending on your commute. North Charleston, Hanahan, and West Ashley tend to be central for a lot of people. If you work on the peninsula, Daniel Island and James Island tend to be popular.

Definitely choose a place where you feel safe and comfortable! Hanahan is pretty accessible and I don't really hear anything negative about the area. I always recommend using this report to see what the crime looks like in different areas when moving: www.communitycrimemap.com.
