Those are some good points. While I take good care of all my gear of course, when I have a piece of gear that's really expensive I'm so extremely careful with it I'm almost afraid to use it. In fact sometimes I don't use it and it just sits around in the box. It's much better to use gear that'll give you good results and that you'll actually use.

Nice sound, plosives are present and a pop filter would solve that. I really like the dialog recording. I have expensive mics too, but use my Boya selections most of the time. If I lose one to rain, humidity or accidents with outdoor shooting in Saigon, it's no big loss. I would like one of these for my desk ... at that price, I can buy one just to try it. No big loss if I don't like it.

Have this mic for few years now and the versatility it gaves is incredible, compared to more expensive ones out there. Using it with something like the rode caster pro, I'm able to adjust the level and the tone to my like, so that you can't even tell it's a condenser mic. The processing does a good job at rejecting noises. So yeah, just overall much more flexibility. And if I need more details let's say for instrument recording, it delivers too.

People use them for drum overheads a lot, Its more about gain staging. It’s max spl is 130. As long as your piano sounds good it will sound good.

It is important to know what you're getting with the 990. It is not a large diaphram condenser. It has a rather small appox 20mm diaphram mounted in a big dummy ring that makes the capsule assemble look big. Ipurchased a 990 and I thought the mice sounded thing for being an LDC. So I opened itupand discovered the ruse MXL is pulling with this mic. I sold my 990 after learning the truth of what this mmice actually is.

I'm a musician and have a variety of microphones. I've had some as expensive as $1,000.00 and now that I'm putting another studio together I want another MXL 990. I think this microphone has a great sound and can't wait to get another one.

I had the mxl 990. It was a very good mic for the price. Mine came damaged with a dent in the grill which put me off but nothing bad about the sound quality.

Hello there, thanks for the video review of the MXL 990 sure they sound so good. I've owned the MXL 990 and the MXL 991 for a couple of years (just getting trying to figure out how to use the MXL 990) bought these with the original case from a pawnshop. I want to pair the MXL 990 with my Mackie ProFX8 then hook it to my Samsung Galaxy S10. Please which adapter should I buy. Do you think I can be able to use this set up but record to a Zoom H4N Pro?

Because they don't compare. At all. This video is about how these budget mics are "good enough" and also easy to replace. They're good for streamers and hobbyist producers, but nothing more.

Actually it is technically a medium diaphragm like the at2020 they are not the full 1 inch size diaphragm like a large one but they aren’t as small as a small diaphragm they just market it is a large diaphragm
