Why I’m no longer getting curly cuts!

You read that right! It's the end of a journey for me. I am late to seeing the discussion surrounding curly cuts, split ends and possible damage caused by them but here's my little take and reasoning on my decision.

Hey there! Im actually going to get my hair blown out and trimmed/ cut tomorrow. I have been wearing wash n go's and getting curly cuts for about 1 year now . Im having some scalp issues as well as I want to assess my ends. I do want the option to wear twists and also prefer my hair to be one length. I plan for her to cut my hair all even regardless of what she has to cut off. I just want to begin this journey with fresh healthy even ends so I'm like take it all! Can't wait to see your results.

Aww I’m so excited for your journey!! I have had curly cuts for the last two years and during my last CIK curly cut, the stylist took off so much of my length 😢 I felt like I was basically starting my natural journey over because there was barely any here left in the back and the sides of my head. After that experience, I decided that I want my hair blown out and trimmed instead. And then maybe styled into a wash and go (and cut more if needed). I’m currently looking for a stylist who will do this for me in my area lol I can’t wait to see what you decide to do about the layers! Tfs! 💕

Your hair looks so good! I appreciate your honesty for why you want to stop getting the cuts. Our hair goals are supposed to change & one day curly cuts can serve us, the next day we might want to start getting regular presses! As long as the hair is healthy & the person is happy, its beautiful.

Just even out the layers! That'll give you a nice look for straight styles without totally changing your curly hair styles or losing too much length. :)

So glad for this video! Your hair looks so healthy! I can tell that you took care of it(I'm sure you and your stylist communicated). Will she still be your stylist on this next part of your journey? I do appreciate you discussing curly cuts and your knowledge of what you were "getting yourself into". I like that your journey is diverse in wanting more from your hair! The 30 day hair detox gave me an opportunity to learn and understand my hair so much better on my journey and I am adding twist outs (and maybe perm rods in the future) to my tapered cut (growing out and beautifully salt and peppery)! Anyway you chose to wear your hair will be best for you! Besides, as you said, it will grow back!

Thank you and thank you so much for watching! We communicated about it all and that’s what I REALLY appreciate because having that trust is everything. I’m kind of getting caught up to date with all the conversations going on surrounding curly cuts and damage and split ends and I was honestly wondering that same thing and If it would be worth it to continue to go to my CIK stylist (I drive over an hour for the visits) but as I sit under the dryer deep conditioning now, I say YES, I’ll continue to her. The detox definitely helped show us what is possible and how to get more longevity in our styling and I will forever be grateful for that! I bet your salt and peppery hair is going to continue looking beautiful as it grows out! Thanks again for watching 🥹❤️

I've reached the same conclusion with my curly cuts. My last cut cemented my thoughts on trim bs curly cut. My CIK Stylist cut several inches off, claiming split ends and some damage (from being sick, according to my CIK stylist ). Mind you, I see my CIK stylist 3X to 4X a year. Anyhow I'll maintain hydration sets but no trims. I've trimmed my hair for years before seeing a CIK stylist, and my hair was great. Thanks for sharing!

OMG I am sorry to hear about your experience-scissor happy hair stylists deterred me from going tot he salon for a loooooong time so I can only imagine how you must be feeling! On the bright side, at least you even know how to maintain your trims and then with being able to maintain your hydration sets-those 2 are most of the battle! You're going to have so many hairstyle options with getting blowout cuts. I may do the same in another year or two if i get bored with w&g's. For my cuts now i actually get a blowout ensuring my ends are good, my hair grows fast. Afterwards my stylist then styles it and shapes it (cutting it as needed). @TheKhrissss I've been natural since 2011 and in 2017 I got the keratin, loved it so much(I was addicted). I rarely flat ironed it but I'd do pin curls, blowout twist, etc. Now with following the bcg styling methods my hair care is so much easier & like you I may start wearing it differently in time for something new. I don't know about you but I never thought of the curly cuts being designed to take care of bad ends/ hair health?

Beautiful hair! I definitely agree with your sentiment regarding curly cuts. I think you should just request a thorough trim and let the layers grow out. It will not take long. Additionally, the layers will help with volume when it’s straightened. I love my natural hair straighten, but when it is all one length, it lays flat and is heavy.

It’s good to see you (virtually)!! I’d see how much uneven the hair is and then cut the ends slowly. How do you feel about your length? Does your hair feel different with this cut? (Are you end really rough?)

Heeeey! It’s good to virtually see you too! SO those are all great questions! Honestly, I am pretty happy with my length but I am hoping I won’t have to get a ton cut to even things out some more. Now as far as the FEEL of my hair- I have noticed a difference in the look and feel of my hair in the last few months and I just assumed maybe it was one of those changes that just comes with your thirties or something BUT i see now that a lot of other people have been having similar experiences too. I know this is going to sound so crazy but I don’t think my ends feel extraordinarily rough but in that same breath I’m not quite sure what to look out for or what that would even look like for name because I usually wear a wash n go. 😩

@@TheKhrissss ahhhh ok! Thank you for always sharing. I am thinking of the feel difference with my locs too compared to my loose hair from my 20s and 30s. I think there are many factors for these cuts (not disregarding your experience). I also wonder how sharp these sheers are when the hair is being cut. I am interested to see more experiences and opinions from others.

Your hair has really grown and looks great! I go to Judie to, partly because of you. I would probably grow my hair longer before cutting it. It really depends on how you like your hair currently when blown out, tfs.
