I keep telling friends of mine "Play who you enjoy". Everyone doesn't need to always play the "best" character. If you aren't going to tournaments and you have no goal for ranked, why play the "best" character and have no fun doing it? Playing whoever you enjoy most is literally just maximizing your fun. Having more fun means you will play more and with that you will naturally learn more.

Interesting. Tokido has the exact opposite opinion about Akuma in the corner. One of his reasons for switching back to Ken was according to him "Akuma does not have sticking power in the corner like Ken". Tokido thinks Ken´s corner pressure game is way better than Akuma´s.

This is not a good thing. the players of today will never know what it was like back when fighting games did not go esports. When players whole identity was part of their characters. They all had entirely different playstyles who elevated their characters regardless of tiers. To prove people wrong. It wasn't money. There was real passion and reputation was what mattered. PR barlog for his balrog. Daigo for his ryu. Tokido "the murderface" for his akuma. Mago "the 2D god" for his fei long. Smug for his dudley. Dieminion for his hyper defensive guile. You got FChamp who was a heel and stirred competitive drama. The longstanding rivalry between daigo and justin wong. There was a nationalistic passion to win these tournaments for your country. There was real matchups. It was far less about chasing top tiers. Players will bring the characters that they like to play to their limits. Getting information was also difficult. Now everything is found within the first weeks. That underground element to pre esports FGC was peak. There was heart to it. Now, esports FGC is streamlined and generic. Zero individualism to the players. It is robotic. Everyone cares so much about numbers and tiers. Everything is calculated. You have all this money put into all this marketing and technology with these tournaments and it all just feels sterile. fighting games used to be not designed for accessibility. Combos were actually difficult to do with 1 frame links and when someone succeeds, it is hype. Comebacks were difficult. You cannot have pocket characters because the game was difficult. You had to take the character you chose to play to their limits. This led to these players being identified to that character and makes them reputable. Mike ross saw it coming.

I’ve mained 3 characters in SF6. Zangief, Marisa, and Akuma. Marisa is mainly because even though she doesn’t have a whole lot of utility for closing distance her damage is crazy good. Zangief because he’s pretty much a knowledge check character and forces you to be more aware and patient but once it pays off it’s so satisfying when you get the damage you’re looking for. However, for whatever reason when you’re playing as Akuma and everything just clicks in a fight there’s just nothing like it. He’s so fun to use, the combos are easy to learn, he’s so unlike the rest of the cast that it’s crazy.

I wouldn't say he's unlike every character in the game , he is still bound to the same principles as other characters, but the fun comes from his way to link combos , almost everything you can imagine works on him , so you get some amazing conversions depending on the situation in you're in . He probably has the highest skill ceiling in sf6. That being said he's also played wrong constantly.
