Yo, I'm gonna check out Louella. As a young woman in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon girl), I respect Muslim women so much because I also have to keep up a standard of modesty. We have to wear shirts with sleeves that cover out shoulders, cover our midriffs, wear shorts/skirts/dresses up to our knees, can't wear anything too low cut in the front or back, avoid sheer and tight things, etc. and it's hard! Basically anything trendy these days we can't really wear so for me, seeing how Muslim women wear their hijab and keep their standards of modesty, which are way more than ours, so faithfully and diligently and still manage to look beautiful is really inspiring. It strengthens me. It reminds me I'm not the only one trying to uphold a religious dress code. I honestly have so much love and respect for Muslim women.

People should of course wear hijabs if they choose to do so. But saying it is "so important" for Muslim women to wear Hijabs sounds like they HAVE to...(this is directed at the host not the interviewee) Not all Muslim women believe they HAVE to. Muslims have told me it is a choice. I would be terrified to wear a hijab if I were them in the USA right now.

I was watching this praying that she would at least acknowledge that there are women whom are oppressed by the hijab and its surrounding ideas of modesty but alas she did not. It is upsetting that she wants people to generalize about the hijab based on her experiences. She is a very privileged person and she does not represent the reality of what goes on in conservative Muslim American households and Muslim majority countries. And if we could stop pushing the idea that the hijab and its ideas of modesty are something to admire, that would be great. It directly contradicts feminist doctrine. And newsflash: all Muslim women do not wear the hijab. It is mostly the conservative/right wing sect of islam that does. Stop promoting that. Promote liberal islam and Muslims. Thank you.

Because it is important to represent everyone's story. No matter the race, religion, sexual orientation, or personal experience, everyone deserves the right to become the "norm". We should instead be asking why we do not see more diversity in mainstream media in general.
@mirajb93678 жыл бұрын
Muslims are on the forefront of hate, xenophobia, misunderstanding, and it's important to hold a dialogue about understanding the culture, the people who attribute their faith to Islam. Ibtihaj is a contrast to what the general public assumes.
