Why I'm Returning my New Thrustmaster T300 & What I'll be Getting Instead - I just picked up a new Thrustmaster T300 Alcantara Edition and while it's such a beautiful wheel and the T300 base is great when it's working at it's fullest potential, I will be returning it. In this video I'll be using it for the first time in Gran Turismo 7 in the Daily Race B at Suzuka. I'll be discussing the problems I have had and what I will be getting instead. Will it be another belt drive wheel or will I be going direct to Direct Drive? Watch and find out!

I just went through this whole journey with different wheels, at one point had the TGT ii and Fana DD Pro w/ 8nm PSU, honestly for GT7, the TGT ii feels so much better, the base actually vibrates when shifting gears, kerbs, etc, the DD pro feels empty in these scenarios and they were about equally strong. You made the right decision.

With the Fanatec DD Pro, the additional vibrations for shifting gears, kerbs, etc are handled through the wheel and not the base. I'm using the BMW GT2 V2 rim and feel all these vibrations as long as SHO is set to 100.

Ive had a T300 for a long time now, never had an issue with FFB fade. I do 100% races in F1 games with it, drifting in Assetto Corsa, Rally in DR2.0 mainly. As well as some ACC and a few other titles. One of the biggest issues I tend to see from people with any wheel, is thinking the settings need to go higher and higher to get the most out of the wheel. But thats actually wrong and you end up with FFB clipping. Think of it like audio distortion. Higher isnt always better because of this, and you can end up with a muddy signal, or even a lack of sensation. You end up losing fidelity. On top of this, you end up pushing the wheel to the point the motor will over heat, plus wear down the componants faster. There is also the possibility, especially with gear driven wheels like the logitech G29/G920/G923, that you can jump the cogs and pretty much just break the wheel. As you can end up forcing things vwhen the FFB is set exxcessivly high. Even belt drive wheels it is possible to damage the belt to the point it slips. Once the wheel is physically out of alingment, its not always possible to fix it. I do belive Thrustmaster have an alignment software tool for use on the PC to recalibrate the wheels alignment, but the Logitech entry level wheels do not as far as I am aware. This is one of the reasons why direct drive wheels are so desirable in sim racing, as they are usually more powerful than the belt drive counterparts, especially the higher end DD wheels bases. This allows you to feel much more fidelity while still having the ingame settings at a reasonable level in order to avoid clipping. Since you stated you started on a T150, I think you made a misstep going for the T300 in the first place. As much as I like my T300, its not a massive leap from the T150 to it. In your shoes, I would have gone straight to one of the newer entry level Direct Drive wheels. Personally I am eyeing up the T818, purely because I am already in the TM eco system, and want my exisiting TM wheel rims to remain functional after i upgrade.

Not being able to run the settings of 4 torque and 6 sensitivity in GT7 was an issue for me. As I lowered the torque the force got a little to weak for me and felt I would need to compromise in order to keep the wheel. As far as entry level DD. The T818 unfortunately doesn't support console and I need a PS5/PC compatible wheel as my main driver.
@SongDesire
@SongDesire Жыл бұрын
@The Casual Racing Gamer thats understandable. I tend not to use wheels on the console, as i prefer pc for sim racing. Mainly because of the much wider VR support. But if i had a ps5 i would be playing gt7 with my t300 for sure.

T300 - 630 hours on gt sport, lots in gt7. Used it always on sensitivity on 10 torque at 5. Had this wheel from 2015 to 2023. Never had any issues with it. Recently I upgraded to tgt2 - I’m actually going to say - I’m not impressed. For the price difference you don’t get the same difference in ffb. Tgt2 ffb transducer is nice and gives you extra feel, but the ffb of the wheel is much smoother than the t300. And because of this smoothness it’s worse when it comes to kerbs or potholes in a rally game. This is where a geared wheel has a nicer feel makes the road feel rougher. Tgt2 makes road feel very smooth.
@thecasualracinggamer
@thecasualracinggamer Жыл бұрын
Yeah, gear driven wheels will feel more choppy and clicky but would a real car feel like that on dirt? Really cars on dirt I assume would still be smooth, even though the wheel would be flying around. I assume Direct Drive would even be smoother then belt drive, even on dirt.

Gear driven wheels such, for $300 you can get the excellent Cambus C5 direct drive wheel and some basic pedals. There's a mod for the Thrustmaster called a quick ring which makes their quick release much better, $20 tops. If you want to stick with belt drive then the TS-PC is an awesome wheelbase, much beefier and run it at 100% with no worries. However the C5 doesn't have native console compatibility. So $400 for the CSL DD entry level bundle, outstanding value with an excellent upgrade path and console compatibility. Thrustmaster 's TGT2/TS-PC is nearer 5Nm but it's a solid base as far as belt drives go, it has the same ffb as the T300 just stronger, I think you'll like it. One thing is the fan used, not very good but easily replaced with a top quality Noctua 'fan for $15-20, I replaced mine before it failed and its still going strong after thousands of hours use, moves more air, and is quieter, all the cables and connectors come with it.

Hey, I currently have the T-GT II and it is a little over 6Nm not 5. Also, the Cambus with it's lack of quality pedals and non console compatibility make it a no go for the GT7 players. Also, the Fanatec DD deal does not support PS5 also making it a no go for GT7 players. While there are some good deals on Direct Drive wheels, unfortunately they don't with for PS5 and GT7 players.

I started with a second hand G29 for GT Sport and thought it was an excellent value starter wheel. Then I went with a Fanatec CSL elite and found that was a worthy upgrade. I now have the CSL DD 8nm and my god I don’t think I ever need to upgrade, however, I can imagine the DD pro (same wheel but PS5 compatible) would be wasted with GT7 as feedback and physics from the game is so poor. You would only really get value from a DD wheel by playing say AC or AMS2, though the former is considered to be the most accurate racing sim. With a DD wheel you’ll also need to look at a decent rig too as you don’t want to lose information through a non sturdy frame.

I feel like I've found the source of the problem. Electrical voltage plays a role. Since I plugged my steering wheel into a single outlet, there is no longer any drop in force feedback. The TGT2 has a regulator I believe. This is why the problem does not appear. I'm not 100% sure of what I'm saying but, based on my tests, it could well be that.@@thecasualracinggamer

@@DanielFenandes The problem (there is none...) is simple... Why do you want to absolutely put the ffb to the bottom?? Each game has a different level of ffb and must therefore have a different restitution at the wheel (which explains why some people complain of not feeling anything, on games in particular ... and this even with a dd). Even on dd, we do not push the setting to the maximum, to avoid certain frequencies, which must be avoided above all.

@@THESHADOW97139 i use my FFB at 4 (out of 10) to not overheat. At 6, which I consider ideal, it overheats in 15 min. Which means I can only use 40% of the advertised power. I could use my g29 at 10 at all times with no issues. I replaced my g29 for a t300, and it was a good upgrade in many ways. Even at 4 torque, it is muh better than the g29, but I find the advertisement misleading

I used to have a T-150, it is irritating sometimes because you don’t have a clue on what the car is doing. If I knew better, when I got a T150, I would have gone for G29/G923. It has more detail on what the tires are doing. Currently I’m using a CSL Elite compatible with the PS4/PS5. By the way I have installed heat sinks on the T150 and now on the CSL

G29 won't offer much of a difference than the T150 as it's a gear driven, low FFB wheel. They are pretty much on the same class of wheels.

What made you go with a belt driven wheel? I say this because right now the options on direct drive wheels at the moment is really good. Personally I would go Fanatec over Thrustmaster for console and pc gaming. I started with a t150 and eventually upgraded to a t300 which I loved and was very happy with and fortunately had zero issues . I ended up upgrading to a belt driven wheel which was the fanatec csl elite ps4, this was a great wheel and for me a big upgrade. Next upgrade was fanatec gt dd pro 8nm I just feel at the price it's hard to beat for native console compatibility plus it is a very good wheelbase . Now I have the fanatec f1 Racing wheel (dd1 ps4) it's 20nm and it's a beast . I've personally had no problems with any of my wheelbases from Thrustmaster or fanatec but I know others had. The TGT ii is a great wheelbase and I'm sure you won't be disappointed but belt driven wheelbases at that price are over priced I feel a gt dd pro 8nm would have been a better pick as eventually you'll probably want to upgrade to a direct drive wheel, and fro. What I've seen and read it's apparently better .

I went with a belt drive system based on how much money I was looking to spend at this current time. Could I afford to spend more, yes. Did I feel like I needed too, not really. I think belt drive wheels can offer a really good experience. I was able to enjoy my T150 for years so a belt drive system should be a big boost already. If I can successfully grow this channel, the creator side of me wants to hopefully be able to try all different wheels in the future and give honest feedback and reviews on them.

The dd1 and dd2 are flawed platforms...torque spikes...look it up. Fanatec needs a massive refresh. The csl dd and dd pro don't have the torque spike issues. The tgt2 is a great High build quality wheel with vibration transducers...for the price it's almost better than the 8nm dd pro and definitely better than the 5nm...not to mention those bases come with plastic wheels with no leather. Very basic and no vibration transducers means it's a vanilla feeling experience compared to the competition. Dd1 and 2 are more premium but it's a very old base and dd tech has come a long way since. It would be a massive mistake to spend so much on an outdated and flawed base. I think he made the right choice with tgt2 especially since he already has tlcm pedals and he can use it with his setup for ps5. Can't mix and match pedals and bases on console
@jasonl526
@jasonl526 Жыл бұрын
@Greatgoku4 @Greatgoku4 well I'll have to disagree with that...I don't see the basis of you saying that they are a "flawed product" on what I presume you are referring to as torque ripple . But please if you have research and abundance of people/reviewers complaining about this and calling it a flawed product please add the links would be nice to see and read what they have to say as in the reviews I've seen , people who I've spoke to who have them and from what I seen in forums e.c.t I've never seen anyone call it a flawed product due to torque ripple. The tranducer vibration only works on one game , to say the gt dd pro has a vanilla feeling compared to the tgt2 because of the transducer you're the first person ive ever heard say that also you'd be better off buying proper transducers for better immersion., in my opinion the price of the 8nm dd gt pro is just better..the truth is the tgt has always been overpriced ..the orginal was and so is this I would presume it's slightly better . I wouldn't really buy any of the the rims they both are not great especially at that 28mm diameter very small and both are basically plastic wheels i think the tgt2 has some aluminium parts but is mainly plastic with leather rim where i think the gt dd is all plastic with rubber rim for a round wheel, I think neither have magnetic shifters. That's another reason why it's over priced . Also you talk about build quality but the tgt2 is mainly plastic right where gt dd pro has a bit of plastic at front and back but mainly metal...dd1 dd2 is all metal and is very solid and hefty great build quality Direct drive is just about what motors they use ...you say dd1 and dd2 are old well that doesn't make it bad I mean the simucube has had the same motor for just as long ....age doesn't turn a good product bad . Price wise the ps4 dd1 was on sale for €1,300 with a f1 wheel rim with podium paddles ...that's a price and I picked one up ..native console compatibility xbox and playstation and pc you can't get that from any other brand not even thrustmaster . Ffb is fantastic detail You're getting from the base is great ...but hey that's my opinion from having 5 diffrent wheelbases . And it's funny you say outdated ...so you obviously feel belt driven is outdated also right as direct drive is newer ? Outdated ...flawed have I don't think you've even used a dd1 or dd2 ,
@Greatgoku4
@Greatgoku4 Жыл бұрын
@Jason L yikes I didn't know I'd run into such a defensive situation but I'm just gonna tell you my side, what you do with the info is upto you. First of all I even used a simucube 2 pro with heusinkveldt pedals so I know what top shelf feels like. I personally own a logitech pro dd as I had to overhaul my entire setup including pc,ps5,screen,peripherals, aluminum profile rig etc or else would've splashed the extra and gotten the simucube. But for less than 1100-1200$ with coupons you get one of the best dd bases when it comes to ffb quality also the load cell pedals...obviously 11nm maybe not enough for some but I never use more than 8-9nm. I have tried dd pro and tgt 2 before. I have never used a dd1. And as for my info on torque ripples/spikes you can look it up at your own leisure I'm certainly not invested enough to go through the trouble of finding them again its not that difficult. Now as for dd pro or csl dd unless you get the 8nm it's a clear W for the tgt2. Yes it does use belt instead of dd but it's the top shelf belt drive vs bottom tier dd....the dd pro was so underwhelming that I was willing to shell out 400$ more for a logi pro. And yes the transducers only work for gt7 but he his buying it for console use and presumably mostly for gt7. That cheap garbage wheel that comes with the dd pro is sacrilege to use on a daily basis and if you want other fanatec wheels you are adding a lot of cost on top of what you already forked out. The guys name is casual gamer and he already invested a good amount on tlcm pedals so him getting the tgt wheel and base is soo much cheaper than purchasing a dd pro with load cell and extra wheel and 8nm power supply.......how is that sensible? And that metal part of the base is the heatsink or else that would've been plastic too. Dd pro build quality isn't the best tbh. Dd1 and 2 are the premium bunch but like I said what I did and fanatec is gonna refresh them soon and it's gonna be way better especially for the price. Last but not least tgt 2 has decent materials throughout the wheel and touchpoints. Which is all one cares about when driving for prolonged periods. Magnetic paddles wouldve been nice but only on the top quality products which are expensive...all the affordable wheels with magnetic shifters sound horrible and tacky...especially the t248. With the tgt2 and dd pro being priced in between that spectrum i can understand. Cheers didn't mean to stir the pot btw.

I ran mine at: 5 sensitivity, 10 10 on force feedback and torque and it lasted a couple of minutes and didn’t overheat (I would have kept going but I was afraid it would so I didn’t go further but probably could have for maybe 20-30 minutes or so). I currently run it at 10 force feedback, and 6 torque and raced for like 2-3 hours and it was fine no overheating. It did get slightly warmer but that’s to be expected

This is a shame ,I bought a T300 in 2015 and it broke in 2022 after very light use .The force feedback would get weak and eventually it went into a wild spinning calibration loop slamming hard left to right during boot up.Then it just totally failed (No Power) Because I had the FI Ferrari Add on rim and TH8A shifter and T3PA pedals I was kinda stuck in the Thrustmaster eco system so I've just bought a newT300 servo base for £200 . I'm worried it might break also now😮 I have a G920 also for backup and it's a good wheel and can recommend for the price but the T300 is definitely stronger and smoother but is prone to breaking so I hear.I can't justify spending money on a DD wheel so I'm hoping for maybe another 5/6 years from my T300 ? I've heard of people drilling holes in them for better cooling but I'll wait till It's out of warranty before I try that . Hope you enjoy your next wheel.Good Luck.
