I wish you the best of luck in the trucking industry. I drove truck OTR for 21 years. I now have a small business (in English Indiana) converting vans to campers, rv repair and bus conversions. I still hold a CDL as a backup plan.

Thanks so much! There will be more stuff coming up. I am probably going to have to figure out what the new normal looks like. As long as people watch, I will keep making more videos.

Your right, don't be afraid to make a move. When I realized that I was end a dead-end job, I immediately left. It's worked out well. That was forty years ago and I am retired now but still work part-time.

My advice would be to sell the sawmill now. Woodmizer has like a 12-15 month wait time now and people are paying crazy $ to buy sawmills. I bet you could get 35k for it now. Something to consider.

The thought has crossed my mind. We will see what the next couple months looks like. If I did sell it, I would just roll the money into a newer machine.

Good luck, it sounds like you have put a lot of thought into this. Keep an eye on the balance. Truck drivers are the glue that holds the economy together.

@@kenchafin9890 Nothing administrative, but nothing is more important than getting home. Take your time, find your zen, and pay attention to what you're doing and what others are doing around you. You're a smart man, you'll be a fine driver!

That's good to hear. I'm interviewing day driving jobs right now. Looks like most places are starting with about $60-$70K potential for first year drivers in my area.

Most truckers will lose their jobs to self driving within the next 15 years. The tech is here. It works now. It works better than human drivers. I'm not saying that what your doing is a bad idea, I just want you to understand that the main thing stopping self driving trucks is regulation, not a lack of tech / innovation.

I worked on the trucking industry for 30 years managing logistics and supply chain support. Driving a truck is just a part of getting freight from point A to B.

I think its healthy to think about trucking but there is many things to consider. One is never close a door to open one. You didn't but others will I believe, I to became a trucker as mechanicing was too many hours, no time off and most people cry when they find out how much you make. Mechanicing I pushed the envelope for that magic two hundred thousand dollars and in trucking I made sixty five my first year in seventy eight and by eighty two had a brand new truck from this company along with more hours required to drive which it turn cost me my marriage. I am sure though she just waited for a out and that was it. By eighty four, spring I was fully divorced an the unhappiest man on earth. I ventured into all different kinds of work for one reason to others. If its you then go for it as you will never know, and still like to drive, to master that highway. I quit for all the wrong reasons but I am glad that I did

Thanks for your wisdom and sharing life. As a husband and father to 4 kids, I plan on only driving day shifts. I find the most unhappy truckers tend to be the one's that have been taken advantage of by OTR companies. My wife would kill me if I was away for more than a couple days, and I would miss my family so much that I just couldn't be an OTR guy.

I have a ton of skills already and although my job isn't really high paying it's really steady and has good benefits. On the other hand I've been considering this heavily in the last year especially since one of my best friends family has a trucking company that really needs help. Just the thought of helping a good family is about enough for me to make the move.
