Personally I’d keep that Tribute. It’s one of the better crafted Les Paul Epiphones. The long tenon neck which was discontinued in the Gibson Les Pauls in the 70’s (speculation was to save money), solid mahogany body (not weight relieved) with a maple cap, and push/pull series parallel tone pots. The switch giving you problems is the same U.S. Switchcraft 3-way switch used on Gibsons. Grover locking tuners, and Mallory-150 tone capacitors. Hell, the Classic 57’s alone sell for $150 a pop. Try a little graphite on the nut of the G string. Don’t be so sure you’ll not want the Gibson sound later, for what you deem unimportant or out of touch today. Put it back in the case, slide it under your bed and forget about it. Save or find another way to finance the guitar you want today. One day that Tribute will call your name, and you’ll be very happy to reunite with your old friend. I’m old.

This comment made me reconsider! I’ve had this guitar for 8 years and it would definitely be a shame to part with it! Plus it does play amazing, I’ll try your tip on the nut! Thanks for watching

Enjoy buying and selling guitars but always be carefull letting go of your first or the first one that had special meaning. I say this because I purchased my first "proper" electric guitar when I was in my mid tweinties while I was stationed in Okinawa Japan. It's a 1993-94 Fender Stratocaster '62 reissue (ST62-70TX). I could have sold her on many different occasions, but I'm so glad I didn't. Trust me I've sold some I wish I hadn't. Now in my mid fifties, it's really nice to still have my first proper guitar in my pocession. It's a keepsake item from an age and era I treasure and miss dearly. Jump in your time machine and transport 30 years into the future. Look over and see your first guitar with sentimental value hanging on the wall and I guarentee you will thank yourself for not selling.

Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment! I actually decided against selling a while back for the exact reason you outlined, in 20 years time I would have definitely regretted selling this guitar!

For me, I’ve been rummaging through eBay, looking at guitar brands, nock off Les Paul’s and all that- and I really look up to those types of guitars (since I’m 16.) As of recent, every guitar I have gotten is either an Amazon guitar, or a Guitar that just completely doesn’t work- and this really helps me out with that stuff. For a while, I sort of thought to myself that, “800 and above are amazing good guitars.” But that’s because those are ‘out of the box’ good guitars. Sometimes, it really is just a ‘let’s buy a nice body, and work on it and make something I can really enjoy.’ Because in my pure soul- you can’t find a good guitar that you can connect well with straight from the box. You have to make a connection with that guitar, but just as well be *comfortable* with your guitar. The next guitar I buy, I hope it stays around as long as yours has, and I will still love it- thanks man.

I've had mine since 2012, I paid €400 in the spring sale's which was a bargain at the time. Great guitars, plus you'd pay a hefty price for a guitar now for the specs this one has!

What a good honest man you are. You are correct in going towards your passions. I am only looking to purchase this exact one because I was born in 1960. Finding a mint (cheap) example, and store it away. Play it in my den sitting down lol. My favorite is an American 1951 which not even fulfill your style. Anyway much respect and keep living your dream

If that guitar is 8 years old its not pau ferro its rosewood. Did you sell it? I only play higher end Epis and Squire Classic Vibes. They are just as good as the expensive stuff.

I own 1 Epiphone and SG Pro. It is a good guitar but the electronics sucked. So I put in Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbuckers, with the Pots and resisters set up by a company in Nashville. I now call it my Red Growler and it is a great guitar.

In truth, most of the sound you get out of a guitar is coming from the amp, not the guitar, even the pickups don't make a huge amount of difference compared to the work the amp is doing. The scale length difference between Fenders and Gibsons has a bearing matters, and the fretboard radius does too, but other than that, it's mostly the amp which determines the sound. For those suggesting that an Epiphone is not 'real' Les Paul, aside from the fact that it has Les Paul's name on it, so yes it is a Les Paul, as someone who has five Gibson Les Pauls, two Gibson Melody Makers, an Epiphone Melody Maker and an Epiphone LP Studio, I can tell you that out of all of them, my Epiphone Les Paul Studio (a 2003 Korean made model) is the best one of the lot. It is made better, looks better, stays in tune better and sounds better than any of the other ones, including all the Gibsons. Don't get me wrong, I like all of them for various reasons, as I do all my other guitars, but the name on the headstock, nor how much you paid for it, has no bearing on how a guitar sounds, never has and never will.

I agree 100%, the best Les Paul I’ve played was my Friends 2017 Gibson Standard with Seymour Duncan’s in it, and honestly I liked it better, why? I think because the action was slightly higher making it sustain better (which I prefer as mine was like shredder low), and the pickups were hotter. But this can be easily changed with a setup and honestly even an EQ. Was it 5-6 times better? No way. In fact most Gibsons I’ve played have played worse than my epiphone because the owners never bothered to set it up which is a shame as I’m sure they are great instruments. I’d rather spend 300-400 on a decent copy than the “actual thing” and pocket the spare change or maybe use it to buy some other guitars that give me more tonal variety. People who complain about the headstock are usually the ones who need to spend more time practising instead of complaining anyway!

its just too expensive, u get get better/similar stuff for less. and gibons/epiphone keep reissuing the same artists that are basically on their death beds, how many kirk hammet and dave musatine guitarrs do we need. they should take a leaf out of fenders book and put the gutiars in the hands of younger newer player to stay relevant. also the epiphone was meant to be the affordable option but now there are Epiphones that are more expensive than gibsons, make it make sense they are also too heavy and actually uncorfortatble to play sat down, the groove for your thigh is too high up the body
