Hey man, you did it, your amazing content pushed me and i got myself a very decent ADV Bike. Its old, and needs a lot of adjustments, and thats why i got it at the end of the season, plenty of time to get it in shape and on adventures! I do agree with this video, im also not focused on dirt roads, they are welcome, but not really essential in any way. Im just happy to be back on a new to me type of a motorcycle and i must admit i love it! The last bike i had was a supersport Yamaha, had it for ~ 4 years, got bored of it and sold it, Your content made me consider ADV Bikes, and honestly THANK YOU! Your channel and content helped atleast 1 person make the right choice! Since you made it that far : I got a TDM 900, the bike is very capable, old and heavy and a very good starting point to ADV in my opinion. After a few adventures on it i will know exactly what i need. One step at a time.

To me, riding just to cover distance is missing the real "adventure." I prefer to ride AND enjoy what I'm doing and to be free to stop for an experience or take a side road just to see where it goes. When you make it a goal just to cover distance, you are making it a job.

Absolutely right! That's why we ride and never do a day planning in advance. Just in the mid- afternoon we have a talk about how to end the travel day and look for a place to stay over night. Too detailed planning creates a pressure I do not look for in my spare/free/holiday time.
@Brit_Toolmaker5 ай бұрын
Definetly the most enjoyable way to travel by motorcycle, you just need a rough idea for a days travel and so on and so forth. Travelling through a country or area you've never been to before is THE "adventure" you don't know what you are going to see and experience, flexibility is everything to make the most of your travels.

There are some exceptions….. This summer I went to Alaska. My final destination was 6000 miles away from my home. That means I had to be constantly on the gas and to cover a lot of miles every day if I want to be on time. Yes, I didn’t have enough time to enjoy everything on the road but my goal was to reach this specific spot in Alaska and I had to do it this way because I have no idea if I have another option to go up there.

All valid Pavel. Every ride can (and should be :-)) be an adventure, doesn;t matter what your ride. I've done vast amounts of road based touring all over the world. I;ve done plenty of dirt roads on a R1 as I am stupid. I love doing the TET, but with a dualsport/dirtbike. You choose your poison and pick the right weapon. I'm retiring in a year and plan to embark on a RTW trip using a Kove 450 Rally. For me I can do tarmac in ok comfort but won't BE constrained by how technical a dirt track might be. Each to theIr own. Is it the journey or the destination - Irrelevant when you don't have a destination. Ride your own ride.

Nailed it Pavlin, I think also social media tends to stereotype and make people feel they have to do things a certain way with particular bikes and equipment. Also some feel a little jaded after seeing trips that obviously have cost a fortune when they have very little time or budget for their own dream. I ride a mid size "adventure bike" but I don't class myself as an adventure rider, and never will, I just love motorcycles and whatever discipline I chose to do doesn't change the label of what sort of rider I am ! I grew up riding old junk bikes on the beach or in the woods, every trip out was a mini adventure as you didn't know whether you would be fixing the bike, a flat, walking with plastic bottles for petrol, knocking on a door to borrow a tool, or getting chased by police. As I grew up I raced MX/enduro for a decade or more and have transferred my off-road knowledge to the Adv bike setup to make it my best version for the riding I want to do. So many miss this point, it's about THEM, not what social media says how, where or why they should "adventure". You don't have to justify any of your decisions to us, but these videos you make are so valuable for many people in making theirs 😎

we can too just talk about the real meaning of these travels... Not so long ago, the travels were real explorers or import export guys.... and often he first were motivated to make some business at the end. as musician, i can make an analogy with music which always was played for social events ( celebrations, birthdays, marriage, etc...) now it is a consumer thing, out of the first used context. Often hen i plan a trip, I have this feeling : What is the real purpose ?... It helps define bike needed, riding alone or with others, scenery and countries to visit... And we all change, even in less than an year... By example, what was great about riding alone can starts to be boring and the real joy becomes to have a riding buddy...
@tuggsli5 ай бұрын
Pavlin, you definitely made your point here about what you want and why TET is not that much a part of it. Very plausible and on the point explanation. As an offroad newbie and living in offroad-hell (Switzerland...), I started on the TET because it allows us (my GF and me) to make some first offroad travel experiences without having to plan in advance because we just follow a given trace. We had last year some nice experiences (Sardiny, east and south of France) on lesser used TET sections and a bit off-season too. But... But 1: we well realize that TET creates a density problem, especially in the most known regions like the Western Alps. We are going to see how it is in 2 days as we'll going to do TET Italy from Section 1 eastbound to section 8 or maybe even to the Slovenian border. We'll see how it is to ride on densly frequented TET trails... But 2: yes, travelling offroad is a choice and not a goal in itself. I would say it's more about the choice of rural vs. urban lifestyle. My GF and me are more rurals, and as Switzerland is, in the Plateau from Lake Constance to Lake Geneva more or less one big city, we want to get out and intentionally look for more empty landscapes. And I guess that is the need for a lot of is, like motorcycle camping (which we don't do) is a kind of a return to the roots of a simpler life for a lot among us. But 3: again, the density problem. TET attracts a lot of people, but to us, "real" offroading is to go where only very few are travelling. So we learn the basic techniqueson TET and later we want to develop into creating our own rides. And not many are doing this because it is quite a lot of work before you start the travel. TET is easy and lazy as others did the planning firsthand. So we are even happy that the "rest of the countryside" remains empty because all are doing the TET and we have empty trails outside of it. But 4: the dark side of the density problem: bad behavior! We know that there will always be some idiots who do not behave well. And if a lot of idiots do not behave well in the same spot, society or worse the administrations will react. And it seems they know only one tool: interdictions! So in a certain way, TET leads to restrictions for offroad bikers too! So I'd say that TET is a good way to starting offroad travelling, but one has to evolve beyond using pre-traced tracks and decide for him/herself where one really wants to go. And one last thing: I definitly contradict you about the point of meeting people - and I think you know it by your own experience: the more a region is remote, the better and intense the encounters with local people will be. It's very simple to remain lonely in a city, but in the real countryside the locals will start talking to you at every single encounter. So if you want to meet the people, ride offroad and avoid the cities. And please don't stop this kind of videos, as they really get me thinking about why I do what I do and how I want to do it and how I can get better at making the right choices in travelling. So a big thank you and safe travels!

@@motorcycleadventures Just a little feedback on my fears of the density problem in the Western Alps: after 10 days on TET Italy sections 1 to 4, it's ways less populated than we expected. Just the "famous tracks" (Via del Sale, Assietta, Jaffereau and Someiller) had more traffic. The rest: empty, simply empty! Section 4 was so abandoned that some tracks nearly got lost in the growing bushes. Next time, besides the Husqvarna 701, I have to take a Husqvarna 485 (chainsaw) with me. 😂😂😂

They are usually not super difficult, but i always felt uneasy riding technical trails along on the T7. Now with the PR7 it's much better but i still love taking a few dirt roads, and then switching over to asfalt roads exploring small villages etc. I went offroad in Bulgaria, the guy in front of me fell.. had to brake, so i fell also. My reasoning is similar to yours. I’ve been traveling quite a bit around the world since the early 90’s. Due to life situation however, I’ve only been doing it during a few weeks each summer, well most summers. And I’ve been driving adventurebikes mostly, even though I never search for TET-roads. I always drive towards specific goals. Sure, I’ve enjoyed a lot if small curvy (and sometimes gravel-) roads. But always been on my way to something, rather than “driving to drive on a difficult road”. That said, do you have a map where you have drawn a line for all your travels? Presenting such a map, or drawing it in real time for the camera, would be a great video episode!

I want to disagree on the average speed in the off-road, it's closer to 45-55km/h, and I'm still slowing down other people. 😅 That does include mudbaths and deep sands. But in general I agree - the covered distance offroading is less than on-road. Still, the most distance can be covered in the autostradas, 800-1000 a day no problems, but damn, it's extremely boring that way. And there's definitely no need for expensive bikes, DR650 will do more than adequate job, especially for it's price! I could afford to have a fleet of them for the price of one T7, for example. Otherwise - I agree, best to do a mix of on and off-road, depending on objects and attractions along the road.

So basically what you are saying Pavlin is that Ewan Mcgregor and Charlie Boorman didn't do their trips on just 2 bikes !! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 still fantastic series to get us all riding in different countries ! ( Nearly as good as yours my friend) 😉👍🏍🏍🏍

you want to see as much as u can from the world u living in, thats one idea of travel. Another one is to do some dirt trip 2 Weeks with some friends in the mud. actually i do both, some trips are sideseeing and some are just dirt fun. i saw both sides of it in thailand, laos, cambodia for example, and both is nice. and there are a lot of places in the world u will just arrive offroad.

I don t like asphalt roads generally. Over here, Argentina, it is different than Europe If you don t like dirt roads, you miss all the beauty, also they connect everywhere, If you take asphalt, it is full of trucks, and they ar long straight roads. And most of the time you don t have that choice either. You can do a bit of both, or connect to regions with asphalt. But the trip here is dirt. Take your time.

TET roads are not always easy going, they’re sometimes very technical. Not for beginners,especially on heavy adventure bikes.

In my Alpine country it is illegal and we have more and more motorcyclists who do not respect anything and ride in groups through the forest (mostly private land), off-road, over the roots of trees and even in the mountains, where everything is strictly prohibited. Many do not pay attention to anything and set up their camps in nature and leave garbage behind and do not even put out the fire, not to mention disturbing the game. TET has started to cause serious disruption and damage and more and more people are not happy. Some from other countries even organize group rides (for money) because such activity is prohibited in their countries. I think that the state has already started hunting them in an organized manner and setting up ambushes for them.

@@motorcycleadventures You are an old-school motorist who works hard to afford a motorcycle and travel, and you appreciate and respect that. Those with too much money have no attitude towards anything!

TET is not really off road tracks, except if you have a big bike or bad skills... there are many ways to do it and others tracks, in between going hard enduro on 2 strokes or having a 200kg adv bike..... Luckily things evolve too in bike industry with new light bikes and less CC. But to have nice days, enjoy scenery, don't ride tracks fast as closed rally SS, yes, it can take 10 hours a day for sometimes only 100 km... another way, another kind of travel... That said as long as tourist riders go on TET, we have all others ;) BTW good GT bike with appropriates tires would do your job. and opposite : guy on ktm 500 made the round trip world without any problem and on low budget

From when quantity is more important than quality? I better see 4 times less countries, but in full colors in off road. Than screeping my but off on all 500 countries motorways. Thats why you must plan and do both. After good workout in nature, take some time and relax on black top. Than go workout again. Cos its much more fun and beautiful. Ride safe boys and girls ✊️

You don't necessarily have to see the whole world and ride a motorcycle. At least they find the meaning of life! And it's nicest at home anyway. Anyone who has problems with their own appearance at home also has problems in Bangladesh

Sounds like if you could ride faster than 20km maybe you would be OK on TET. It's for sure cheaper than spending every night in a hotel xD

I dont think anyone said anything bad really it was a simple question of "Why" and it got answered. Yeah people dont travel and dont understand what comes with it but i dont think there was any ill intent behind the questions asked it was a simple curiosity. I prefer the road too but i also love the nature so i pick mountain passes when ever i can. I do love watching others go offr oad tho but personally the only off road i wil lever do is when im hiking.

@motorcycleadventures when someone shows me and proven experience of actually dooing it I listen . Many times you have explained how you cover distance and why you doo what you doo Very early start in morning Doo your most miles then . Afternoon wind down and start looking for hotel or what ever in Afternoon Get plenty of sleep I learnt that 1st trip on bike A decade b4 ever see any so called adventure videos They are definitely muppets ....i have ridden with them I doo very much like you and most others can't cope with it . I warn them ! Also say see you at destination. Even in uk a 4 to 600 miles ride is a huge deal for them 30 000 worth of gear 0 idea . Some even said you have no tank range with 120 miles on that R1 I just smile .... I dont stop for 30 min drinking coffee n talking shit . Cover 400 miles b4 i stop for lunch time ....like you !
