"Easy to learn, hard to master." This should be the approach in the next DOA installment. Make the game player-friendly fun for newcomers, but also have mechanics in place that reward time, effort, and knowledge.

Exactly. I started on doa5 when I was 14 and now I'm 19. I can definitely say those 5 years helped me a lot with learning characters and comb setups.

i agree on how they dumbed down DOA6's combat system so that almost anyone can learn it, in DOA5 you actually had to LEARN the game from multiple ways with things like Frame Data, Safe/Unsafe moves and combo challenges. These ones were harder to do than 6's ones because you actually had to time when you execute the move and how to transition from one move to another. DOA6 made some additions that take away from the fun of actually making use of the hard skills you picked up in training because of a break hold that you can just spam and counter strikes almost every time and the sidestep which isn't even OP, its just annoying, like anyone can just mash the sidestep and pray that they will hit and if/when they do they interrupt your strings and take YOUR fun out of playing the game. Truth is, They just made DOA6 too easy to pick up and too hard to play against random people who just mash these buttons and do barely anything else

I prefer DOA5's stun system. DOA5 let's you stun someone up to four times. Dozens of the stun combos i do in DOA5 are no longer possible in DOA6.

It makes perfect sense that veteran players would be upset when a new entry gets simplified: we've seen it hundreds of times with many franchises. The advantage that DOA has in this regard is that they release multiple titles, itsn ot an MMO or live service game per say. Because of that, they can learn and make grand improvements with the next release.

I like doa5lr better mainly due to the character selection. Doa6 it's like it's mainly women and I know that's doa but to have dlc characters same as in doa5 in 6 ..lazy no tag. Doa6 just didn't feel complete

Honestly, I do miss the cliffhangers from DOA5, it was An awesome addition to the series. I’m sorry that DOA museum stage is the laziest recycled concept ever. The DLC that should have been included for me (as a Kasumi main) was the Dimensions costumes as well as the DOA4 pink too with scarf and jean skirt costume that is iconic

What i've been saying for years, oa5 LR was so deep, you actually had to learn everything and ways of punishing it, now everything is safe, characters are broken, side steps are broken, close hits are OP, i can lost a few round to a beginner where in doa5 they couldn't lay a finger on me...

Late to this one, but I've always loved DOA5U/LR over 6, and it is certainly my favourite fighting game. Simply put I just forced myself to play, like and purchase my favourite character (Momiji) in 6. While I just play for entertainment, specifically I favour 5 over 6 for multiple reasons. Many concerned will minor details and quality of life type of things: - There is a less jarring 'safety net' meter system in DO5 and the game runs well and overall feels better to play. I actually hate 6's system in form and function. - CPU AI behaviour, I really felt as if I was learning the nuances in across the 8 different difficulties you could set the CPU to. In 6 the AI just meter counter spams. - Superior character roster and stage catalogue in 5 - Cliffhangers are present in a few stages - Tag Team Battles - Visually the presentation in terms of shading and lighting is more pleasing to me in 5. Certain character models look rough in 6, take Kokoro for example. - Uncensored jiggle physics and the ability to customize that at your discretion. I like breasts. - Reflections on necessary surfaces/terrain. - Cutscenes available in the theatre as you play the game. - Mobility after a KO. - Better unlock progression for costumes and the ability to choose different details for some models. - Smoother animation transition when character is knocked into a breakable object, DOA6 is weird in how it sets characters to a down dizzy position. - Likable voice over, a few characters were recast in 6 while the VF characters just had old sound files from their game so they grew on me. Of course I can appreciate what 6 is but my heart is always going to be with 5U/LR.

DOA6 is such a major disappointment and what pisses me off more is that it feels like Team Ninja just didn’t care. Me personally my heart still goes out for DOA3, DOAU, and DOA4 because those games has some great stages, storyline, costumes, and fighting modes. DOA5 is decent as well but I don’t really like the stages because I feel they are way smaller and “boxed in” compared to previous games. And just DOA5 lack of intro and win poses. But DOA6 is just so not fun to me, and what really killed it for me was NO TAG TEAM MODE! Like come on Team Ninja! Tag Team is a staple in the DOA series!

@@shenelljohnson74 Not really. Rachel and Momiji have been fan favorites since Ninja Gaiden so it was obvious they would add them to the fighting series one day. And there are people in the community who were upset Tag Team was taken away. What I don’t like about what I feel Team Ninja was been doing is preying on the weebos but adding in those animeish lolicon characters Honoka, Marie, Nico. It’s like they don’t really care to add in more serious fighting looking characters. And yes I know DOA has always been know it’s beautiful female characters and the sex appeal, but it still just bothers me to characters like Nico and Kula who look like literal children with super powers. It’s just not the same DOA I grew up playing and I wouldn’t expect newcomers to the DOA series to understand that.

I absolutely love the character models in doa5lr. They look very realistic, even down to the skin textures and facial structures. The hair colors also seem more natural and not as saturated. From what i’ve seen in doa 6, the character models seem more smooth and “plastic-y”, less gritty and more “doll-like” (for lack of a better term) so I’m a bit disappointed to see that change, in my opinion.

I prefer the older DOAs over DOA5LR and DOA6 since the older DOA games have more quality to them, great gameplay, better stories, better soundtracks, more quality stages, and unique costumes. The older DOA games are timeless. The original DOA5 aka DOA5 Vanilla was the last good DOA while Koei Tecmo forced Team Ninja to turn DOA5U, DOA5LR, and DOA6 into cash grabs.

I feel your frustration bro.. I'm not a long time player only about 3 years or so and I still 100% get it. You know a good comparison look at Kof XIII and kof XIV they added an auto combo but the overall mechanics stayed the same mashing LP isn't gonna get you far in that game so you need to work and learn and im talking serious fuckin grinding on those characters. DOA did dumb it down entirely too much. I honestly don't hate DOA6 I dont love it either though doa5lr is the first doa game I really sat down and learned its the 1st fighting game I gave more than a few months of trying to get good at so I'll always choose it over almost any other fighting game. I just want them to try to make it good again the series as a whole, doa is honestly one of the best fighting games ever made regardless of popularity.. idk im basically ok as long as I can play momiji so you'll catch me on 5lr or 6 at the end of the day I just enjoy 5lr more. For me its kinda a mixed bag with both games. I dont play video games in short bursts like everyone else does so when im playing both for hours upon hours it kinda drags to the point where i either take a few days to a week off so i can play them again. Even then sometimes i dont bother because i feel like i've done everything that i set out to do when i started them. For example DOA5, Get a high rank, get all the trophies, get all the characters and get a gold winning streak in rank. All done with before 6 was released. DOA6, same boat although in 6 it look less time for me to rank up than in 5. after just 24 hours of play i had a 50 game win streak and became an A+ in just only 24 hours. and i got all the trophies in only a week. so whats really left to do on either for me aside from keep playing because i love both games. I'll still always play but honestly whats really left for me to do in them anymore ya know

I'm more of a casual player to 3D Fighters more of 2D player myself but watching your video's always wants me to try play them more. Tekken is Tekken I know that for a fact what you're getting into if "try" to get good at that game, but Doa has always had me interested. Now I've also played the Soul Calibur series which I have to say I enjoy mostly out of the 3D fighter Franchises. Like Doa6 looks good and with addition of Kula from SNK I've kind of wanted to try getting better at but even the main cast of Doa I like character like Helena, and Hitomi. Also, I do agree that the tag mechanic is cool in Doa5 and more costumes but idk. I've just been torn on which Doa. I understand all your point between the two even more so the "accessibility" of getting newer players but heck recently I've been Playing Pokken Tournment DX which is Tekken with a 3D areana fighter aspect but with Pokemon and I easily got into that 3D fighting game more than Tekken, Doa, SC etc. Is it a unique/simpler version of Tekken with Pokémon? yes and that what makes it fun for me personally and will continue to get better at it.

i am a new doa player and tried doa 5 last round and 6 (both free version), and i totally agree with you, even if im a beginner i just felt better playing doa 5, is more natural, comfortable to play, fun and also has more characters, costumes and levels, it also have a "legacy" graphics that i really appreciate.

The one thing I hate, as a new player getting into DOA5LR, is how they delisted ALL THE DLC and you can't buy it anymore. Even though all costumes and characters are STILL IN THE GAME, and will tease you with the costumes and characters in the Arcade mode. Tecmo always finds a way to screw up people who like their games.

DOA6 feels like a DOA school. Its offline content ( tutorial/quest) literally teaches you how to play DOA. It seens like an atempt from Koei Tecmo/ team ninja to increase its players base. Its a great game for a new player maybe not so much from a veteran standpoint.

So true. Picking up a fighting game shouldn't be a one and done thing. I feel like a lot of people just want quick satisfaction, which is why people shy away from fighting games. They see the work that goes in, and they quickly turn away. I just started playing DOA this month, and I'm learning a lot. Thankfully, I have knowledge of playing 3D fighters like Tekken, SC, and VF, so I know it won't be an easy journey. ...but I'm having too much fun playing this game to care about difficulty.

I can totally agree. I do also prefer doa5 over doa6 because it just feels a bit more balanced and more "fluid" for me. Considering the characters are always changing so much (I still do not get the reason for this at all) also the game speed and combo speed is changing so much that so many things are still no more possible on some characters. For some characters like Kasumi or ayane for example they still have a lot of their old combos working but then for characters like hayabusa some of his moves went becoming so slow that some of his combos are simply impossible now.

Imo DOA4 was the pinacle of DOA games in terms of the fighting system. In DOA5 they reduced the counter window which made the triangle system a bit unbalanced. There was no super or comeback mechanic in DOA4 too... it was solid.

I like both games.. but i do revist 5 more often than 6.. players got brainwashed on doa 6 ranked they play without fundamentals, fake ass string cancels and bad habits..(all of a sudden everyone is a high rank player) and can beat all those sweaty players without any effort at all man. Just simply tap the S button and pray to god that it hits. Zero to no ground game made people stay on the floor and feel safe. youre forced to wait while u have someone stunned on 6 due to the simple fact that they can use meter to get out of pressure is a joke. Takes away all those 50-50 and makes literally alot of slower characters unplayable..these so called high rank players nowdays relay on cheap fake ways to win matches and get away with it..the whole game as it is now is a mess imo.

DOA5 is always my go to game along with Tekken 5, this game had so many different game modes, 36 different characters, cool costumes and very good story mode 👍🏼 DOA6 isn‘t terrible but it lacks a lot in comparison to DOA5, the modes are limited, you have to collect fabric and coins for unlocking costumes and the DLC characters aren‘t really worth it, since most of them are in the base roster of DOA5 🥴 The biggest disappointment for me was the story mode, barely any focus on the ninjas and mainly just on Haruka and Marie (just because those 2 are popular, I love them too but they don‘t have a great story to tell)

The whole point of deep combat system is to learn it, yes it takes time, but it is so satisfying when you start to do sick moves. This is why I like 3d fighting games more than 2d, is because 3d fighting games are designed to be difficult and technical from the beginning. Trying to make everything dumber isn't going to make casuals to come in, because casual will play for a little while and then inevitably hit the learning curve, so at the end no one will be happy. I also don't like how modern TN games looks, they need to start hire people and put some money on the table, because both Nioh and DOA looks cheap and ugly.

If TEKKEN 8 release with all the game modes you want, perfectly balanced, felt smooth but KING has a MONKEY HEAD instead of Tiger head and Heihachi, Law, Jin was not playable from start and NINA was a flat-chested dude and the first season pass including nothing but wedding dresses for your cute Yoshimishu and all the new blue haired lolis you want for Tekken FOR 100 EURO! Would you still accept the game? This is how I felt about DOA6. The first thing I saw was a all covered-up small chested Kasumi all bruised up spitting blood on the screen. Immediately I thought, no way, this is not Dead or Alive... they are about the ruin this... and damn right was I right! The few weeks after youtube and forums overflown by SJW haters and stuff raging on DOA6. Rough start for a decent game (because I think the gameplay of DOA6 is pretty damn good even though I prefer DOA5LR).

So many characters to play, attires to choose & much more variety. The gameplay & character details is so much better. DOA6 is so downgraded & the DLC's are so, so, so expensive.

Kinda late to the convo, but you are right, doa 6 had me dropping doa community as a whole, with people defending it, doa did not need an easier approach, you can literally come as a newcomer vs newcomer, mash and see the cool attacks and you can have fun like that, I hate this new approach of making newbies pros in days. is just not the mentality a fighting game should strive for, it is just sad. Then again, I see you playing more 6 than 5 nowadays, we as a community should have a doa 5 day and just jump in and play(since there is no lobbies), I have a small group playing everyday, sadly people get scared when they hear we use parsec to compensate the lack of lobbies

DOA6 is just trash. It’s stripped back and unpolished. Who launches a game without lobbies? Nonsense. I miss being able to visually see the “money”. DOA 2 - 4 clearly had a substantial budget and it showed. There’s a reason why DOA3/4 hold up so well. Tomonobu knew how to make a game feel alive. DOA5/6 look and feel so soulless. I hate: 1. The garish and loud looking menu - looks very cheap 2.Flat and boring stages 3.Awful OST 4.Special combo 5.Special hold 6.Special sidesteps 7. Static power blow - inability to dictate the direction you launch your opponent. 8. No power launcher 9. No tag mode 10. Weak story mode 11. Too many lolitas ... how many do we need?

DOA5LR is a master piece BUT the only reason I got it was because that was the only version of DOA that had Jacky in it. Recently I’ve dropped Tekken, MK and DOA6. I only play Virtua Fighter Final Showdown and DOA5LR. Virtua Fighter is still so fun to play. Had to pull my PS3 back out for it LOL

I LOVE the fact that the only comeback mechanic is ring out LOL. But VF players should start explaining how to play the game as much as Tekken and MK players do. I do believe VF5FS definitely is welcoming to new players. And easier VF game, that’s as good or as “easy” as it’s gonna get LOL

I think most of the people that wanted to earn their skills the old fashioned way prefer this game. Imagine a get out of jail free card to do combos and getting out of pressure as well with the push of a button. It’s just a brain dead game it’s so boring To see people mindlessly do the same combos over and over again. Doa 5 you had to actually learn your characters unique moves and attributes you actually witnessed characters being used uniquely people made their own combos and unique style of play. doa 6 on the other hand with the push of button you can do combos that are gerneric there is no uniqueness especially Marie roses and kulas. Also doa 5 defense was extremely difficult with guaranteed moves it was damn near impossible to get out of pressure. In doa 6 once again with the push of a button you escape pressure and gaining any type of momentum is impossible to maintain ,through a cheap counter you could potentially turn the whole match around everyone’s hard work in 5 is in vain in doa6.

I STOPPED playing DOA6 because of how easier the game is plus the massive amount of microtransactions that game has. It sucks the soul out of the game. This was similar situation for DOA5LR but the gameplay saves it from me dropping it entirely. But, if I can say what DOA is best for me It's either DOA4 or DOA2 Ultimate

I disagree slightly on the graphics. Sure, 6 may have higher fidelity, but I don't think it looks as good as 5. I even think 3 and 4 have better art direction

I played doa6 for about a week maybe two. Then I went back to doa5lr. My problems with doa6 is the new bar system. I hate the mortal combat series and copying that bar mechanic did not help doa. You need to be able to do your whole toolkit all the time. There's no damn cooldown for a kick that's just stupid. I like the powerblow to a degree. But hold it there. Then there's the cutscene problem. Everytime you hit a wall in certain maps you get a cutscene when you get knocked around you get a cutscene it stops the fight. I like being thrown out of buildings but when I get knocked into the ropes while playing in the doa stadion in 5 the one knocked is being dazed. In 6 you both get a cinematic cutscene breaking up the intensity of the figfht. Then there's the sidestep. Emery explains this very well. But I would like to add the sidestep counter in doa5lr is much better as it doesn't break up the fight and makes some very crazy sidestep counter fights. Now the elefant in the room. TAG!!!! nuff said. Missing characters: Ein, Gen fu, Leon and all those like momiji that has been added as a DLC wtf?! And then they make new dlc characters instead of letting the old ones return first. Big mistake in my opinion. Then there's the overall feel as Emery have said in a number of videos, for me I think that one comes down to the level design where some of the levels are a little too goofy for me but it is what it is.

if kt didn't try to suck up to evo by hiding the fanservice, if they didn't then make it worse by crawling back to the fanservice, well, fans with ridiculously overpriced dlc thinking that's the way to recoup losses, doa6 would at least be received well (it still has less features than 5) and the series wouldve kept afloat for a 7th to come around and jolt it awake. somewhat related but skullgirls also tried doing this and got the expected reaction. didn't even get any new players from publicly shaming their old ones, they just lost the fanbase they already had. all for nothing. Edit: Skullgirls is even worse since they retroactively removed backer rewards like voice packs and art book pieces on top of everything else. Edit 2: your points on the gameplay, as to why you dislike doa6, made me realize that them trying to look more serious and competitive was a failed move from the get go. they were trying to appeal to pros yet they simplified the mechanics and undoing work pros had done. whether for casuals like me who find the appeal in the characters or pros like you who seek the gameplay aspect more, they really managed to disappoint everyone in one fell swoop. it's amazing.

Side steps aren't than invincible in DOA6. You're saying like you can always mash the sidestep between strings, but that's not true. If the string have tracking moves the side step can be stop, just like in 5. And if you know your opponent is doing too much SS, you can just block and punish with a throw. DOALR is a great game and I loved it, but due to some life circumstances I couldn't play it a lot when it was at its best and was the latest DOA game. Last year I was finally able to play DOA6, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. So overall I've invested more time in 6 than I could in 5 back in the day. I know DOA6 is not perfect, it has its flaws. It's true that in LR the ground game is better, but I don't feel the motivation to drop 6 and start to learn 5. Maybe if I had the chance to play 5LR as much as you and other players in the community did back in the day probably my love for 5LR could be bigger and my opinion would be different regarding to 6.

I got DOA6 for a f up from a game retailer, long story short they couldn't give my money back so they offered a game and it was DOA 6, but I also felt the same, that I had no love for the game I can go back to DOA Dimensions on my 3DS and play Hitomi for hours or get some VF with DOA5LR on my PC and Vita, but DOA6 just didn't felt good, after a week of owning the game I just sold it.

I got the free doa6 core and dropped $8 on Mai... recently. I did play the doa6 story back when it first came out and the story mode is pure trash. But so was doa5 story. I'm a big casual DOA fan...I have all the doa games even the volleyball ones and even the 3ds one. I love to play but I'm 🗑️. Kinda like a lotta ppl love to hoop and they go to LA fitness or whatever but most of them are 🗑️
