I bought a Coachman Clipper 182DBU and towed about 100 miles home with my 2000 Chevrolet Blazer. I was shocked at how well it handled sway and weight distribution. I upgraded tow vehicles to a 2018 Grand Cherokee with factory tow package and I haven't used the camper with it yet but am expecting it to be even better. The Anderson hitch really surprised me.

Mr Idaho, totally agree with your review. One thing you forgot to mention is the quiet turning with this hitch. All my old bar hitches were noisy as hell, especially when backing my trailer into a spot (and sometimes after hours) this Anderson hitch is silent around corners. And maybe 3-4 minutes to unhitch, just as long as your Jack takes to go out and back. Can’t say that with any of my previous hitches.

I also own the Anderson hitch. However I co tinted to have issues with the brackets walking up the frame, which loosened the chains. This would happen even after I tightened down the set screw to the point of denting the frame. I went back to my equalizer. My only beef with the equalizer is the weight of the hitch head. Other than that it provides the best say control and weight distribution in my option. Thanks for your video!

Have had mine for 3 years now. Love it. 31' 8000# travel trailer towed by a Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi. Do I know there is 31' of trailer behind me? Oh yeah, but I can drive with one hand at 70 mph with ease. No sway, 100% stable. Had a Blue Ox and Equalizer before this and neither felt good. The Andersen is the deal. And their customer service is top notch. My hitch was missing the big washers. They sent an extra set of washers and bushings, overnight.

Thanks for this video, it helped me decide to purchase an Andersen hitch. By the way, where is that campground at the 0:29 mark? We're only one state away in WA, and it looks like a great place to camp next time we're passing through ID.

Thank you for visiting our channel and the nice comment. I'm glad I could help! The campsite on the video you refer to is dispersed camping off a forest service road about 20 miles north of Ketchum, Idaho. It's along the Big Wood River and was a little bit of a challenge to get to but was a great spot!

Switched to the Andersen & would never go back to the old spring bars set up. I made a gauge stick out of an old plastic tent stake so I don't have to remember number of threads. It did take a few adjustments to get mine dialed in, but it's as simple as tightening 2 nuts & no need to even unhitch.

We started with an E4 equalizer, the head part is about 70lbs. we then got the Andersen like yours and found with winds at 25mph and gusts of 40mph we couldn't hold our 30 foot camper on the road. we'll be getting a Pro Pride 3P this week.

@IdahoVoyager Жыл бұрын
The wind will get you every time. Can be really blustery in Southern Idaho and Utah as well. Even though your F-150 can handle the towing capacity, the length of your trailer I’m sure makes it more challenging in high wind. Good luck and stay safe out there. 🙂

@@IdahoVoyager we are just getting ready to purchase an Anderson WD Hitch from our RV dealer, and I plan on towing a Coachmen Aurora 26ATH. That is 30 feet when you combine the tongue and trailer. My tow vehicle is also a Ford 1/2 ton with the Max Trailer Package, and so I have the weight covered, yet the statement that a 3/4 ton is better for 30' trailers is a concern.

I will tell you, if you back UP a steep driveway, you will want to release the chains BEFORE you back up hill. The bending of the trailer as you push it up a steep driveway will literally bend the shank. My shank bent upward and thankfully, Anderson replaced the shank for me and advised to disengage the chains BEFORE backing up hill.

As this WD Hitch is dependent on the chains to the tongue what were to happen if one was to break? It happens to all chain over time.

Seems to me like disconnecting the lifting chains is slower than a standard bar setup. That's if the tensioning nut has to be loosened each time. Which would be the case if lifting the rear end of the tow vehicle isn't sufficient to de-tension. No?
@IdahoVoyager Жыл бұрын
Sometimes I do need to use the wrench but I think it's still faster, at least for me, than the bars. The big advantage for me is the ease of operation and lighter weight.

I have a 2023 Lance trailer 2075 for 2 1/2 months now, same as yours and same Andersen WDH. I had not problems pulling my Escape 19 for 10 years with a Yukon SLT. I don't know what I am doing wrong. The trailer sways and bounces a lot when driving at a speed of 60 mph. Would you please share your height of the top of receiver coupler from the level ground. I set the tow vehicle ball height at 20 inches. My driveway is not level and the receiver coupler height measured 19 inches . Thanks. Tonny
@IdahoVoyager3 ай бұрын
Hi Tonny, sorry you're having issues. One thing you may want to check is if you have enough tension on the chains. When I first bought this hitch, my chains were too long and when I tightened them by ratcheting the nut, it wasn't engaging the hitch. The Andersen people recommended I shorten the chain, so I cut off a couple of links and then when i turned the nut, there was enough thread to tighten further allowing the hitch to engage. This can only be done by LIFTING the truck by using the trailer jack...the more you lift the back end of the truck, the better. With the truck lifted, THEN you tighten the nuts to make the chain pretty tight without slack. As you lower the back of the truck (by lifting the jack) those chains continue to tighten and it's this action that engages the hitch...bringing the truck and trailer into more of "one combined unit". Only under this configuration will the hitch be most effective: not only providing the all-important weight distribution...but also the anti-sway and anti-bounce.

@IdahoVoyager7 ай бұрын
Hi Tony...thanks for stopping by and the question. I'm not sure there's a model number as I think they just make one weight distribution hitch for pull behinds. They have a number of other hitches for fifth wheels but I think there's only one model for bumper pulls.

I am not impressed by the Anderson Weight Distribution company. Their solution for my brand of camper, which requires a longer chain. is two lengths of chain connected by a quick link. The best, most elegant, solution would be provide the chain length needed for the Casita application. After about 800 miles the quick link provided exploded. I was told to go to the hardware store and purchase other quick link. I purchased one with a higher rating. A real company would easily provide a length of chain without using a "quick link". It may require a product code designed for that application. Don't think it would be that hard. It is a very dangerous defect if you are using with a Casita camper. They will tell you that you didn't tighten the quick link and it came undone. Food for thought. Is Anderson a REAL COMPANY?
