Glad this hitch is working out for you I had one. My trailer is 35'6" everything was well with in the weight for the Andersen 3350. Had the worst towing experience, couldn't get over 50mph with winds of 15-20 and tow vehicle is an F250 powerstroke. Did a ton of research before making the purchase. Andersen did nothing to help I reached out to them several times on the trip as well as after I made it home! If you dig on review you will find people that have had issues with trailers over 30'. Easy of use and set up was truly awesome with the Andersen! Best of luck going forward!

When we started RVing with a tt we started with an Equalizer hitch. It worked pretty well, you don't have to unhook the bars to backup, but it does creak. We later switched to the Hensley which is the Cadillac of hitches but it's outrageously priced new. With that said I purchased it used and had around $1500 in it. It solves pretty much all the problems. We've since switched to a 5th wheel and no longer have any of those issues.

I would love this new system! I went back and looked at your last system and boy, this one looks so much easier! The one I have now, has only one bar and on my first big trip, I almost lost my whole rig when my Tab 400 started to sway while going down I-80!! That’s when I had to learn about weight distribution. ( using your video, of course!). Even though I understand the weight situation, I’m still worried about loosing control of my camper. This Anderson system looks very easy and would take away my worries!! Excellent video, Pat!

Great video! We just got our Andersen installed to tow our new Cougar 22RBS with our Tundra Crewmax. Glad to hear it's working well for you! I plan on just removing and reattaching the triangle plate by simply raising and lower the jack and completely leaving the chains alone! Literally a 5 minute job for both actions! And you can do it all from one side of the rig!

I bought this Andersen to replace my Equalizer based on the great reviews, ease of use, and the overall weight of the system. I watched multiple setup videos and then set it up exactly as the instructions in the booklet state and the Andersen video shows. After 150 miles, the bushings in the ball mechanism were shot. The weight distribution and “hop/bounce prevention” was great, but this is not a no-sway system and is terrible at sway control. Returning it and going back to the Equalizer.

I think there have been some faulty units in the wild but Andersen is happy to replace them and are easy to deal with. Mine's been great so far. I don't feel semis pass and only feel large gusts of wind. Used it with a jayco 174bh and 264bh. I think sway control is stronger when hitch weight is higher so I would check to make sure you're not putting too much cargo in the rear of the trailer (which causes more sway on its own as well)

I switched to the andersen hitch this year. I hooke mine up a little differently. Instead of loosening and tightening the chains every time I lift the tongue of the trailer while connected to the truck to relieve the tension and then the plate can be put on without loosening the chains. One less step to worry about. When unhitching I do the same thing. Lift the tongue of the trailer while connected to the truck and the plate slides right off If theres a reason you don't do it this way id love to know. Great video and explanation of the Andersen hitch. Its by far our favorite setup to date.

While I don't own the Andersen, I would actually vote against using the jack for this purpose. The jack foot plate actually has to move while extending. Using it to lift the tow vehicle can actually prevent that necessary movement. Especially if the vehicle want to roll backwards (in the direction of the trailer).

Andersen didn’t work for me! I have a travel trailer weighing approximately 6,500 lbs fully loaded and tow it with a Ram 1500 5.7L hemi. I have Timbren assist springs installed which minimizes squat when I hitch up my trailer. The Andersen works great for sway control but doesn’t do much for weight distribution with my configuration. I called Andersen and they confirmed their system is more of a load leveling system and does transfer some weight in the process of leveling out the tow vehicle and trailer. In my case the Timbren springs were already taking care of the load leveling and the Andersen was only able to transfer about 20 lbs back to my front axle. The weight of the trailer had removed about 400 lbs from my front axle. This was unacceptable for me. I switched to the R3 hitch and was able to dial it in to transfer about 3/4 of the weight back to the front axle. The R3 sway control, in my situation, is just as good as with the Andersen. I love the R3 hitch and have returned my Andersen to Walmart for a full refund. The R3 is every bit as easy to hitch up as the Andersen. Granted, it is heavier, but I am able to offset this by the weight transfer capability of the R3. The R3 is also very quiet. It can pop some during tight turns or when backing into a campsite, but it’s super easy to back off the sway control bolt before backing, which solves this minor issue. Glad the Andersen is working for you but in my situation the R3 works much better.

@@TravelswithDelaney Enjoy your channel very much. With the Andersen I’m just wondering if you ever ran your truck/trailer through the CAT scale and determined how much weight distribution you were getting with the Andersen. This was important to me as I am towing at close to my max payload (nowhere near tow capacity though) and have a lot of tongue weight on the back of my truck (over 900 lbs). The R3 nails the weight distribution and moves some of that tongue weight back to the trailer axles. I’m getting great sway control with the R3 and the Timbren springs stiffen up my suspension so that my 1/2 ton truck handles my relatively heavy trailer very nicely. One thing I experienced with the Andersen is that it doesn’t transfer much weight back to the tow vehicle front axle and to the trailer axles unless the truck has a lot of squat to start with. I tested this by removing the Timbrens from my truck, which dropped my rear bumper significantly prior to connecting the Andersen chains. Then, I ran the truck/trailer through the CAT scales. I got decent load distribution with the Andersen in this configuration, but my ride was pretty squirrelly with the stock Ram 1/2 ton suspension. I put the Timbrens back on and tried tightening the Andersen spring nuts to improve weight distribution. This didn’t help at all, even when I tightened the nuts up to seven threads from the hand tight starting point. I also went back over my install procedure several times to make sure I was following Andersen’s instructions. I’m not knocking the Andersen hitch; it works well for many people. It just doesn’t provide much weight transfer for a lot of scenarios.

So, I contacted Andersen with the question..."is this hitch suitable for a 35' 7400lb. travel trailer?" The response was "they work great with small and large travel trailers. And clearly, it was someone who reads from an answer sheet. Never could talk to a real tech. So I believe I'm gonna try the R6.

It's also quiet and the entire hitch , including WD bars remain on the trailer. Another benefit, it prevents sway from starting, instead of trying to control it AFTER it's started. I had a 2019 Tundra 1794 and a Lance 2465. Total Rig 13970 lbs Trailer only 6468 Truck only 6600 Tongue Wt 902 The payload is 1185 lbs. As you can see a max trailer weight of 9100lbs means nothing, as a tongue weight of 902 from payload of 1185 leaves nothing for people and supplies in the truck. I tried towing, but it wasn’t very good. I switched to a 2022 F350 with a 3700 lbs payload and max trailer of 15000 lbs. So, everything well within capacity. However, I could not get the trailer to stop swaying. Anything more than 60 mph, bad sway. Going downhill even worse. I tried everything with the Andersen hitch, adjusted height, chain tensions, reload weight, etc. It just would not stop swaying at more than 60 mph or downhills greater than 50 mph. I switched to a trunion bar hitch (Weighsafe) and have zero sway. Im extremely disappointed in Andersen hitch and would ver recommend it in a trailer more than 2000-3000 lbs.

This is our 1st trailer (20 ft Rockwood GeoPro) and I keep looking at the Anderson System. I don't feel that the r3 really handles sway that well when tractor trailers pass. I read your reply about the wind condition and a truck passing. I really think I want to try the Anderson. But at $600 I really hope it handles sway better than the r3. Since you used the r3 I was hoping you could shed some light on the comparison. Do you feel the Anderson handles sway better than the Recurve R3?

Personally I do feel that the sway control is better on the Andersen than the R3. I was skeptical at first since the R3 allows you to adjust the sway by tightening the bolt and the Andersen does not have any adjustments but instead self adjusts. I am very happy with the Andersen and have no plans to go back to the R3.

Thanks for the review--we've been thinking about this system. Right now we have a Trunnion e2, and you don't have to take it off when backing up, but yes, it's heavy and can be noisy. Question--is the Anderson transferable from one trailer to another? We're thinking of trading in the 400 in a couple of years and won't invest in this if it's not.

It’s definitely could be transferable however it would depend on the frame size of your new trailer.

Always liked the Anderson. It’s so easy to use and so effective in sway control. 👍

We have been very impressed with its sway control and we have dealt with some pretty strong winds.

It doesn’t work for my trailer! I have a 16.8 F lightweight camper only under 5000Lbs .The brackets of 2sides can’t be stayed on the point all the time . It always move a lot when the trailer turns

What are the weights on your truck and trailer? I have read if your close to payload on a 1/2 ton it doesn’t work as well

My solution is get a motorhome. When I was shopping for an RV I knew I did not want to tow anything. So I have a Class C.

I had the Anderson hitch for 1, yes only 1, trip and then sold it. So disappointed in this hitch. The trip was absolutely terrifying. Bought an Equalizer brand and love it. I'll put up with a little noise in order to have a peaceful trip instead of being on edge the whole time

So when a semi passes you in the same direction you don’t get a little “suck” as it passes you?

Normally no. I actually did a bit today when a car hauler passed but there were also 20-30 mile hour wind gusts in play as well.

Well actually the Hensley hitch is 100% no sway guaranteed. I own one and 25 mph crosswinds is nothing. Have had one for almost 2 years with over 10000 miles across country and no sway ever. There have been windy days when we are the only trailer on the highway.

I take the loop again if someones behind be. It's easy to back in a 30ft camper... just not when people are all pissed and staring at you from behind. Atleast this system you can backup with.

Great info. I own both equalizer and the Andersen hitch. I do t disagree on any of your points. However on the Anderson Hitch, I had issues with the brackets on the trailer walking up the frame (yes I also tightened set screw) thus loosening the chains. I watched the Anderson video and also checked my torque wrench, but I had fear of crushing my frame so I went back to the equalizer. Keep the great content coming. We have a lance 2185. Thanks!

You think I can get 50 lbs off the tongue weight with this WDH? The goal is pull a travel trailer with A vehicle that can take 350 lbs but the trailer is 390 lbs tongue weight.

Why retighten the bolts again? If taking weight off the ball gives slack in the chains to take the pin out you should be able to leave the bolts right where they are and put the plate/chains back on. That just seems like an unnecessary step

Swaying is due to lateral forces created by Trailer upon the tractor, and they cannot be avoided. No matter what hitch you do the swaying exist and is dangerous. Only 5th wheel may avoid swaying, such a gooseneck trailer, which is ugly and require to modify the tractor. I invented a new trailer which use a dolly converting the bumper traction into 5th wheel traction and will not sway at all.

I'm smart enough to remove weight distribution before I pull into the campground. You just need to be intelligent.
