I feel this! I was a single mom for ten plus years and got used to being the money maker. I did small gardening on the side but when covid hit, I lost my job at a multi million dollar company as a food and beverage purchasing manager . My fiance and me started talking about how me being home made so much more sense. Now we grow veggies , meat and get to have my kiddo homeschooled again. I'm so grateful for that shift even if it felt crazy for me at the time of transition

Golly! Spot ON!! I was a teacher. I LOVED my students.... I cannot get behind the new agenda. I just can't. I often wish I could re-close my eyes... but it is impossible once they have been opened. I am so fortunate that my husband works and we have a 32 acre hobby farm. I am learning to garden, milking our goats and cow, and bake! I am enjoying it! This is NOT how I was raised. I was taught to work and told this was how it should be. My cup was not filled in the sense of my family... I felt like I was failing my calling. Anyways, Super proud of you and thanks for sharing!

Oh. The mulch does the weeding work for us, we don't remove it at the end of the season. It breaks down and adds to the soil's structure, nutrients, and health. I haven't seen anyone not mulch before but I hope it works well for you! It may be more work not to.

Your story has similarities to mine. From 2008-2013 I worked as an elementary substitute teacher. I liked the students I taught and the art of teaching itself, but hated the curriculum and the work environment. I wanted to teach in a museum, as they’ve been a passion of mine for years. So, after much thought and not listening to other people (they didn’t understand), I left my job in 2013 and went back to school. I ended up working in a museum for 5 years. Now I’m an online ESL teacher, where I set my own hours and work from home. I’m also starting my own business, launching hopefully June 1st. Sometimes you just have to take the leap, and see what happens.

I had great results growing garbanzo beans from dried organic beans from the store last year. You can pick the green pods off when the beans have formed and roast them in a cast iron skillet (in the pods), toss with sea salt and a little hot sauce if you like it. Tasty and easy snack.

I very happy you learned at a young age to not stay in a job you don’t “love”. I was raised go to college and get a good paying career. I’ve been unhappy behind a desk for 32 years. My heart is to be outside. Sitting all day has also taken a toll on my back but guess what, when I work outside and I’m more active it hurts less. I’m still working in an office working toward my goal of being home and starting my own business. I have a few ideas and once my garden is planted will have time to comment more to this. Hopefully will get most of my garden in this weekend, now that our last frost date has past. Your family is lucky to have you home and your girls will remember their mom being there and working for her family. My heart is happy for you. You are blessed to have a husband with the same vision. Mine helps me when asked but it is not a passion. Although lately he has been helping me stock up on canning supplies. He is now seeing the food shortages and realizes we could be in trouble soon. God bless and much continued success. You and you videos are a bright part of my day. ❤

I’m only halfway through this video and I already completely resonate with your personal journey with work. I have a great company I work for, with great team leads and co workers…. But I’m not fulfilled. There is a yearning to grow and create. We are just building our homestead on raw wooded mountain land so there is ALOT to do to get to where you are with the space you have. I’m slowly learning how to revitalize the soil and learn what grows well here. I refuse to mass clear land so I’m working within the landscape of the land. The Lord has given us so much untapped potential on this land, it takes time and effort and $ to build. I am blessed to work from home but I still itch to get out there and do! Someday I will be at the market selling my herbal healing blends, my fresh eggs, my baby propagation projects with cacti and succulents, to create my own organic wild mushroom spores to sell to others. I desire to teach others about what is on this land! What is growing here naturally and what can be grown naturally, for long term sustainability and health. Plants are out educational center and I want them to teach me, in turn teaching others! To have the grocery store (minus the processed bad foods!) all on 10.5 acres of land….my passion, my dream. I am looking forward to the Lords prompting to let the mainstream job go, and to grow into what HE has in store for me. Thank you for sharing yourself and family to all of u💕

When my 5 kids were young, it didn't pay for me to work full time with the cost of daycare (my husband worked out of town). Instead I grew a large garden, raised pigs and chickens. Now that I'm old (lol), I do love my job, but wish I could "farm" full time (dreaming!). But I am the sole money maker now so it is not an option until our house is payed off. I do love my job though, I work from home and pretty much set my own hours. This allows me a lot of time where I can take care of my garden (I am a lazy gardener, so not much tending is required), and picking and preserving the harvest.

I miss my accounting job. It didn’t make me happy but it was black and white and I was treated like an adult. Dang COVId job eliminations now I’m verbally abused in a call center every day and it is absolutely horrible. It’s so hard to do what I love, garden, I swear the plants are affected by the negativity that clings to me from that place. Be proud of yourself. When you were laid off you got up and found another job, maybe not a fun one, maybe not a satisfying one, maybe one you hate, but you got up as a responsible person and took what was available at that moment. Kudos to you. I know you probably know that the callers are not angry with you, just venting about a frustrating situation, but it's still hard. We need call centers so you are very important. You will find something you are more suited for and it may take time, but it's got to be there.

I am a cheap and lazy gardener, lol. I don't buy mulch, I use what I have. Shavings from my chicken coop (put on in the fall, the manure is fine by Spring), chopped up leaves from the fall. I keep the mulch on year round, so do not have to replace it much. It does eventually break down into compost, and then into dark rich soil. I very seldom have any weeds popping up, generally only around small seeds I plant where I have to pull the mulch back until they grow up and can be tucked in again. Good luck, I hope your gardens does well for you!

Yet I still find myself needing and wanting to do it full-time. It kills me to be inside when I should be outside. After recently going through a breakup and losing 2 of my children to their biological mother, I'm running the farm on my own. I'm back to the drawing board how to do this better and more efficiently and profitable. I have alpacas, chickens, geese, pigs, and horses, so compost is abundant for me. My soil is so black and fertile. I'm looking into growing profitable flowers and hard to find or unique produce in my community. I just have to set up a plan of action and grow and go.
