Why I QUIT Silent Hill 2

These kind of Games are all based on Lore The Story The Atmosphere The End Goal and The Charecters which is why i love them so much. The fighting and Upgrades are never what these Games are about that's more of a Call of Duty Resident Evil thing so if you come in to Silent Hill expecting that you will be disappointed all the time.

Side note, the OG sh2 is better but the remakes Toluca prison is so intense i had to take a day off before resuming. Its not a comfortable game to play, and is definitely scary.

You definitely have to be in a good head space to play Silent Hill games. They aren’t like RE games, which have scary moments, but you feel pretty safe here and there. In Silent Hill 2, there is no reprieve, and the game won’t just scare you, it tortures your soul. I had to take a few mental health breaks from the game too.

I made a comment about weapon upgrades being more of a Resident Evil thing that survival horrors in general, and then I was about to make another one about melee combat, because you can avoid damage without fire weapons thanks to the s on dodges and the animation cancels, but... of course he's not going to know that if he doesn't even know you get a lot of ammo in this game.

5:00 you have to understand that SH is more of a psychological horror game and not an action horror game. the feeling of helplessness is what contributes to the horror, and you have to somehow try to escape the nightmare.

Silent Hill isn’t for everyone, it’s fine if it’s not your type of game. I love SH I started with Homecoming and then SH2 OG and then 3. The game is to create tension and make the player feel disturbed/uncomfortable. If you like fast paced shooters like warzone or re4 this isn’t your game. You have to truly appreciate survival horror games to enjoy SH

Those other games you listed like Dead Space, The Evil Within and RE4 are action-horror shooters and shouldn't be compared to Silent Hill or even the early Resident Evil games. Survival horror games are not action heavy and generally don't have a big emphasis on things like upgrading skills and leveling up, they're more or less puzzle adventure games.

@@joshuanelson6795 Playing with a keyboard is quite beneficial in that respect. I can't even play with a joystick in tank control games. Tank control games were designed to be played with a D-pad or buttons. As an older gamer who plays games from the NES era, control and graphics aren't a big deal for me.

I agree with the sentiment in the comments that you aren't a survival horror fan; you are a horror-themed action fan. Some thoughts: 1. You got the wrong idea from the later combat gameplay you saw. While a lot of people were melee first, take a look at their ammo on the gun. It's likely about 100 for the pistol, 30+ for the shotgun, etc. This game liters you with copious amounts of ammo throughout the game. I played the game gun first, only using melee for the final hit or going full melee if I felt my ammo was tight for that situation. I never dropped below 30 bullets for the pistol. Most enemies can be taken out with 3-5 shots with the pistol. The game incentivizes you to balance between melee and shooting by providing just enough ammo to feel confident but not enough to feel like you can just unload at all times. 2. There is no reason to upgrade your guns, nor does it make any logical sense that the main character would be able to "upgrade" his gun. There isn't a merchant, and James clearly doesn't have proper gun knowledge to even know how to upgrade parts. With that, the enemies do not even ramp up in hit points. A pistol will kill the same way throughout the entire playthrough. Upgrading is only necessary for enemies that get progressively harder or numerous. This isn't a power fantasy. 3. If you familiarize yourself with the dodge mechanic, you will never be disadvantaged in this game. The combat, to some, is arguably too powerful for Silent Hill. Nothing in this game will kill you outright if you get dodge timing correctly. Yeah, it's not a rocket launcher, but it is way more action-heavy than the OG and many other survival horror games. At least you found out quickly if the game was for you or not and didn't waste your own time on an experience you weren't going to enjoy.

The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️

Combat is easier if you don't have it on hard mode. You can change the puzzle difficulty too. I really would encourage you to finish the game the story is world famous. I always play it on easy.

I hate turn based RPGs, but I'll NEVER ask for a turn based game to be action based, because I respect the fans. If you like basketball but one day want to try football, do you; 1. Learn to play football so as to enjoy it with the fans of the sport, or 2. Change the entire concept of football to play like basketball so that you and other basketball fans can enjoy it while ruining an entire sport for all the football fans. See what I mean? Fair assessments to a new comer to the series. Ive been playing SH since 1999, and RE since 97, and will say the lack of combat in SH is as deliberate as REs more focused combat. Youre not a cop or otherwise somewhat prepared individual (even Claire had training from chris in RE2.) its mean to be slow and atmospheric, not combative. Its psychological horror, not survival horror.

Silent Hill has always been about regular people dealing with these extraordinary circumstances. It’s all about messing with your head. It’s never been about upgrading your weapons or having special moves. You’re just an average person trying to survive. Very different from the power trips of other survival horror games. Maybe give it another shot one day now that you know what to expect. From the hospital section to the end of the game is seriously one of the most tense experiences I’ve had playing a game. The remake just has no chill and I had to take breaks it was so nerve wracking lol. Very different experience from playing the OG SH2.

I have never played a Silent Hill before my only experience was the first movie and I did not much care for it. I'm having an absolute blast for my first Silent Hill game! This game is scary than Resident Evil 7 in my opinion. The atmosphere, the music is disturbing and erie that it sounds like someone is breathing and it sounds amazing 👌. I had to take a couple of breaks here and there because omg I get scared lol. The combat is limited because James isn't experienced like Leon is, he holds the gun wrong when he's supposed to put the finger on the side and not on the trigger and it makes sense and perfectly fits his character. He doesn't do any strategy or any tactics or any combat skill. I just fully disagree with your take though but still a great game and experience, I'm in the hospital looking for the last bracelet.

Your reasons on why you didn't like Silent Hill 2 remake is the sole reason why in Resident Evil 2 remake they revamped the gameplay mechanics of the game by adding in new stuff to it, to make the combat for fun to play. They did the same thing in Resident Evil 4 remake too, adding in a few new combat mechanics to make it more interesting and refreshing to play. Silent Hill 2 only add in a dodge for combat lol thats it, i can see why people got bored as hell fighting 800+ enemies in 1 single playthrough. Its way too much padding gameplay time with that many enemies, even if the maps was expanded, holy hell thats a lot of enemies vs Silent hill 2 on PS2 had about 80 enemies total lol

Silent Hill 2 is one of those games that by the end of it, it provokes a lot of thought, as the circumstances of the games characters and events are open to interpretation. One of the funnest parts of being a Silent Hill fan is speculating and deciphering with others as to what actually is going on. I think it sucks that you're missing out on all that, but I get it. It just wasn't for you. A game's plot is driven by its gameplay, and the game's gameplay just didn't jive with you 🤷

Great review! 😂. Its even better than Suzi Hunter's. She didn't play it and no review! 😂 I see that this remake tried an in between REmake pace and the original pace. Yeah, the original was clunky as hell. But like you mention its kind of the point. This one is beating these silly looking things with a bat like 300 times by the end. But what about the horror that is more pronounced in SH? Just take a look at the FMV's cineamatography and animation from '01 to 24. The 01' is so compartively more life like and impactuful, its unbelivable. A smart person would within 30 mins of being in SH just leave. Most people are going to stay and contend with the nature of violence, sex, guilt, shame and fear. But they really ain't looking to get into all of that on a serious level, no. All in all, the game is fine. What's next after the reboots, remasters and remakes?

So... I was watching peoples videos on playing Silent Hill 2 remake. It was so cool. I was like wow this is so well made. UNTIL I got to the part where you find out what the main character did to his wife. That makes it entirely unplayable to me. The whole time you are playing the game for the other 8 to 10 hours or whatever, you were thinking and hope that the character would be reunited with his wife and to have their relationship vindicated. And instead they do the opposite. This is why... it seems like its now unplayable. And it makes me angry that the ending is like a big F you to the players from the devs. Are all the silent hill games only 'F you' kinds of tragedy endings? Are any of them playable?

@@nelsonabreu5963 There is 8 different ending to the game. The endings matter to how you play if James is constantly at low health and constantly in danger you get the "In Water" ending. If you protect Maria and keep her around as much as possible you could get the ending leaving with her. To be honest other then the joke ending (aliens or the dog ending) none of them are a "positive" outcome other then Laura's ending.
