Current Maryland teacher here, First, thank you for speaking on your own teaching experience. I know that I often find myself actually fatigued from my own complaining or gripe with the school system, parents, or students. There are just so many problems and so few solutions. I'd definitely corroborate most of the things you said. Yes, the grad programs do this weird thing where they try to get you to subscribe to their idea of what's moral or "inclusive" without actually teaching you shit about teaching. I learned more about "white power structures" than best practice techniques for education. At the end of my program (UMD), the only grad experience I had that taught me how to be a teacher was the unpaid internship, as you mentioned. The most valid point you mentioned though, was that these kids face no consequences. I currently teach in Prince George's County Public Schools and it's the same thing. A kid can tell you to go fuck yourself and there's nothing you can do. The administration has their hands tied by the county by being forced to limit suspensions, we don't give out detention because we know the kids won't show up, parents are either completely disengaged from their kids life or assume they are all-stars, and again, the teaching staff is basically told to just suck it up. It's awful. All school systems have their issues, but Maryland is one of the worst perpetrators of having awful schools, but making them look good on paper (ex: making the minimum failing grade a 70, or counting students "present" for the whole day if they just come to Period 1). Saddest part is that they don't give a shit about these kids and their future. They'd rather stuff these understaffed, underfunded schools with as many students possible and then look the other way to make sure their pockets get filled. I mean our bathrooms reek of weed, and the kids will quite literally roll up in the middle of the hallways or send other kids to the hospital from fights, and nothing is done about it. It really is disgusting, because ultimately apathetic and degenerate kid are being pushed through the system only to end up flat on their face when they become adults. I am currently at a pretty rough school, and am trying to claw my way into a better one and a better system in general. However, I can tell that the appeal of teaching for me has dramatically been destroyed. I still want to teach, but I don't know how much just sheer willpower will keep me going. Glad you found your way out with a good follow up though!

Totally feel this as a parent of 2 boys who attend elementary in PG County. We initially homeschooled our kids for the past few years and we tried sending them to public schools this year bc we felt they were isolated from other kids (primarily bc of the pandemic). That was a huge mistake since we're realizing that the school system isn't incentivized to have kids learn at their full potential (def not the fault of teachers imo). They've learned a ton of bad habits and have regressed in the discipline we were trying to instill in them as parents.
@Patches40002 жыл бұрын
@@thtakapu I personally wouldn't say that teachers aren't to blame in some cases. There are certainly bad teachers and those that shouldn't be in the field. However, I have met a lot of good people with good teaching skills and positive intentions get crushed by the weight of the system and leave. I'm sorry to hear that your child is having a negative experience. I would say it gets better, but I doubt it. PG county's biggest failure is that they don't have a decent standard of performance and behavior for kids to meet, so naturally most of them don't strive to be better (not always their faults, their kids). As long as it LOOKS like their schools are good on paper, why bother with what actually happens in the schools?

It still baffles me how fucking rotten students can be to teachers. Thankfully there were never any serious incidents, the worst we were doing by high school was getting high in the back of class. Although there was one incident with a particularly rude 8th grade teacher. She was a mean old bitch who put hands on multiple students and even made fun of me for being half Jewish… well she collected Pez dispensers and lined them all along the shelves in the room. one day while most of the school was on a field trip, a couple buddies who were on detention went into her room and knocked em all down.

I can't even imagine what being a teacher is like now. I graduated high school in 02 from a very small rural school, 400 students total, and they were still hard on us then if we didn't do what we were supposed to. The worst punishment was the sand pit. Two large sand pits, built up with 2x4s. They would make you move all the sand from one pit to another with a shovel, about 10 feet apart. it took hours and was incredibly exhausting. Was mainly used because you were fighting, but not always. You learned your lesson after that.

I have been focusing a lot of time writing and producing my own music the same way you started creating videos. I do need a lot more practice, but I think you're right when it comes to getting that one big push to become a successful creator. It's really about putting the time and effort into what you love. It's not about luck or KZbin picking and choosing who gets famous/successful; It is about the quality and effort you put into making a career out of your talents. There are plenty of people to fit into everyone's own niche category, and after you start gaining traction from the smaller groups it brings attention to larger, more diverse groups of people. This is something I hold to myself while I write countless guitar riffs, chord progressions on a keyboard, mix and adjust tracks in my software... This video is also really inspiring and it proves the old saying that hard work pays off. It doesn't matter what cards you have. What matters is how you play them.

I quit teaching as well, I did middle school special Ed for 8 years. The burn out was real and now I'm currently starting my own non profit and anything else other than teaching haha. Good for you, anyone who knows, knows how it sucks .

Bro… I got my poem published in that same book in elementary school. My teacher entered mine into the competition. Mine was definitely more typical of an 8 year old kid than yours, but still in there lmao. It went as follows: “I wonder why sisters were invented. All they do is whine and complain. I wonder why sisters were invented. The noises they make drive me insane.”

Man, I really enjoy your get down Brandon. I first watched your sus rapping series with Tommy G when they came out. After watching the Mullen saga I realized you’re just a normal dude with some flaws but you’re real and that’s something I respect. Not an LA dude, or insider. I was a fan of Danny, never heard of Leo and he gives me the willies. Dannys actions toward you were not cool. I appreciate your positive outlook. As someone who struggled with opiate addiction, I respect what you have gone through with your family. Keep up the good work! Always team B!

as someone from the dmv. seeing this is inspiring. “a house is built one brick at a time.” we really don’t have people from maryland besides you and peaks that really make content out here. if i can get more consistent i’ll be up there with y’all soon 🤞🏾

Lmao I graduated from mcps last year did nothing for my last 3 years of high school (literally failed all of sophomore year) still graduated senior year only needing to take 4 classes because as long you turn in a blank piece of work in with your name on it they give you 50% lol. Found you from open the cracked or whatever a long time ago always thought it was cool to see a cool content creator from MD 👌🏼

Realest dude on youtube. Anyways, I teach middle school and feel you on the miserable middle-aged people and dumb politics. Personally I love my kids though. Sounds like you needed a break but don't give up on it! It can be a very fulfilling job. There's kids that would really love you and benefit greatly from you being there for them. The school makes all the difference.
