The main problem with Fallout 4 is the devastating effect it had on the franchise. It's the same what Skyrim did to Elder Scrolls series. Dumbing down got solidified due to the onslaught of casuals that were willing to pay money for being given a shitty RPG that had "a lot of fun shooting and building". From my experience, it's much more fun to use mods like Wasteland Defense or RTS in New Vegas, if you want to build a base. The reason for its superiority is that it makes the game being 95% of great world and storytelling and 5% of fun crafting. Fallout 4 is an abomination for flipping that split upside down.

Bethesda will sacrifice logic and common sense in the altar of "cool gameplay stuff" every time, this is why i dont have high hopes for Starfield. Here is some stuff the leads mainly Todd Howard and Emil Pagliarulo have said about how they make games and i paraphrase for the sake of time: "Skyrims theme is Dragons" "Our designers are our witters" "You press button, cool stuff happens" "Skip, Skip, Skip, Skip, cool this is who i need to kill" (for dialogue) "Keep it simple, stupid" (which is only good for code) ...and more if you read and listen or watch interviews. The sooner people realize it wont get any better the sooner they can finally move on to better games.

IT's because they ad-lib, but don't have a fraction of the talent to actually pull it off. Emil even said something like "90% of our design documents were obsolete" in his 'Talks From Story' presentation. They make shit up as they go and they wind up making shit games because of it.

What made you think that this is a hot Take? I would say that Fallout 4 is even the less true Fallout game when it comes to the Story. Only having a the option to play as a Charakter that has a kid is annoying as fuck. It is Impossible to Play a evil Charakter in 4. It is "just" very very hard to play as a evil Charakter in 3 that isn't completely insane. (At bethesda Not only effort is a bad Word but also having a evil option that isn't staight up cartoon style evil)

While I'll admit that I personally like Fallout 4 (especially the power armor, the power armor's dope), and there are some things here and there that I disagree with, this was a great video. The first point especially is something that I'm really happy you highlighted. Fallout 4 is supposed to be this super sad game about waking up to a dead, hostile husk of the world you once knew, yet it never at any point feels like that. The game never feels desolate or hopeless, in fact it's frequently quite the opposite, ESPECIALLY if you side with the Minutemen.

I think fallout 4 is fun. But not a good fallout game it's an alright game that's just mindless fun but as a fallout game it's horrid. the main story is so bad I want to gouge my eyes out. As long as you don't think about the game beyond surface level it's fun maybe even good but as soon as you think about the game any deeper than than , gun scope i shall add make faraway enemie look like he close, it just falls flat on its forehead and gets an epileptic seizure than put into a coma for good. Honestly quite incredible

I went back to playing Oblivion, and honestly, I enjoy it even more than Fallout 3, and that game is pretty flawed, even for 2006, but even that has more elements of the Fallout 1 and 2 than most Bethesda Fallout games do such as hidden items or dialogue driven quests.

I couldn't keep playing Fallout 4 because of the crashes, which had me concerned about what those crashes were doing to my computer. Before I stopped due to the concerns about the Crashes, the part I actually enjoyed was a DLC called Far Harbor and not the main game. That's disappointing.

the main thing that breaks all Bethesda Fallout games isn't the bad main story or the constant radiant quests or even how they retcon the brotherhood into every game it's something that MATN gave so much praise over that being the "junk system" or more to the point the fact that after 200 years there's still any damn junk / scrap or ANYTHING in the pre-war buildings you are able to take and use. it isn't 2 years or even 20 years since the Great war its 200 so how can there be pre war food/ junk/ scrap metal and ammo in buildings and how haven't people turned them into homes/ settlements or businesses. pipe weapons might be crappy but at least people have tried to make something

Buildings and most materials would be destroyed over less than 100 years from rot. Plastics wouldn't rot (Unless they made all plastic biodegradeable in the Fallout Universe. Also electrical lines, concrete, and other materials would rot unless work was done to maintain them. Bethesda's scenery (This even includes scenery from New Vegas) resembles something you would see 10 to 20 years after a bomb instead of over 200 years later.

The story is perhaps the weakest thing about the game. I will add to the weapons argument: The design of some of the weapon designs and choices are outright awful. What the game considers an assault rifle, which it clearly isn't, looks like a stubby little Vickers Machine Gun with poor design choicrs. The Combat Rifle shouldn't be using .45 ammo and looks utterly boring. The minigun is a peashooter (which I get is for balancing purposes, but they could have replaced with an LMG or something to make more sense). The hunting rifle really shouldn't have a .50 caliber option and should've been it's own weapon. The unique weapons in-game are not unique as there is a chance that the same weapon with the same modifiers can appear. The Far Harbor and Nuka World DLC are the best thing about it, as far as story is concerned especially compared to the main game. But the Nuka World gimmick of being a raider boss in the Commonwelath makes absolutely no sense unless you bypassed the Minutemen for a significant chunk of the game. pretty much asks you to raid your own settlement that you made.

The 10mm pistol in 4 is about as big and long as two desert Eagles... And it is a mag feeding pistol with a component that looks like the cylinder of a Revolver. WTF It assaults your eyes by being one of the ugliest items to be ever put into a video Game.

I have only 4 minutes left of the Video... Since you haven't mentioned it yet i will say it: Fallout 4s gun Design is horrible, it is so obvious that they do not have a single Person in their Team that knows the basics of how guns Work. This was also a problem in 3 but to a way way milder extend... For an example you just have to look at the 10mm pistol in 3 vs the 10mm pistol in 4. The pistol in 3 looks just a bit unrealistic cuz it would be awfully annoying to carry Something this clunky(i'm Not even talking about concealed carry). I guess that Back the they at least somewhat understood what function which component has... In Fallout 4 the 10mm pistol is half as long as the players Leg Diz iz insanity🤪 (There is a Mod that reduces it's size by 1/4. This still makes it a recognizable amout bigger than a desert Eagle) It looks like the result of a inc3stious threes0me between a taurus judge, Something that a one handed m3thhead build to uninstall hookers with and a plastic c96 that broke in half and got glued back together.... Bethesda designed a mag feeding pistol that viewed from the side looks like it has a cylinder from a Revolver... Let that sink in.

Somebody actually made several videos getting into a lot of the issues with Fallout 4's weapons design. Like how one of the scrap guns has a magazine that has no way of actually getting bullets into the chamber or the heinous monstrosity that is the "assault rifle". The one thing I noticed that he missed was how the character spins the revolvers cylinder every time it's un-holstered. I would hazard that Elder Maxon has to have the attitude he has towards Dance due to his established hardline against synts, as that's why they are there in the first place. Now that's glossing over the "How did they know about the synts in the first place and know enough about them to warrent a large scale military mobilization to the Commonwealth" issue.
