It’s not an excuse. They’re all valid points. If you want to learn a language with greater projected longevity, more durability and currency, go for Chinese instead. I mean christ.. 1. all languages change over time 2. declining birthrates have nothing to do with wanting to learn a language (Especially for Japanese which is a pretty niche language already - compared to english/french/spanish/mandarin) 3. Understanding what is being said doesn't make a good show bad, it merely helps you see trash more easily for what it is and makes you appreciate masterpieces more.

I went to Japan and would love to go back and understand more. @@TheCatnipCinemaI'm not fluent but my understanding is you use different conjugations, honorifics, words, etc depending on who you're speaking with and the setting... generally there's polite and casual speech and then there's honorific speech and there may even be more levels than that. So for instance Japanese uses honorifics like -san -chan, etc after a name....san is usually used as an honorific after most people's names as a way to show respect for someone you don't know or who is in a higher position to you....but there are others too. And you also change the speech in other ways like I said changing some words or conjugating the ending (verb) and or certain adjectives differently. I'm far from an expert in Japanese but the little I know is stuff like desu and masu at the end of a sentence is for polite speech and leaving it off would seem casual or impolite to someone you don't know well or are subject to like a boss or teacher....

I can't see japanese language becoming irrelevant. Japanese popculture has such prominence on the world stage that the language has become common speech in certain internet subcultures. I think learning the language will become a much more common thing across the world because of this, especially for those entering the entertainment industry

the Japanese language and culture is incredibly beautiful. It’s complexity is the reason I am studying it and enjoying it ❤️ It’s definitely hard and there are times I think i’ll never be able to master it, but then I remember, if I can learn THIS, with as difficult as it is, I can master any language. We keep going! 💕

As for the last point, understanding anime actually makes it easier for me (I’m Chinese American, I don’t speak Japanese AND I DONT CLAIM TO, HOWEVER, I’ve learned to audibly recognize certain basic adjectives and phrases) Even though subtitles have made me read faster, understanding more Japanese means I have less need to read so I can appreciate the visuals AND I get the pleasure of noting the differences in the way the characters talk, like if they have a very polite or casual or amusing or haughty way of speaking

Japanese language isn’t dying, it has 110M native speakers and 97M speaking outside of Japan, but Japanese indigenous languages are dying, some that only the Native Tribes in Japan are speaking which are, Ainu, Hachijō, Amami, Kunigami, Okinawan, Miyako, Yaeyama, and Yonagun, which are spoken by the smaller islands that don’t have that much contact to normal Japan.

That being said I do NOT regret learning japanese even though it's ongoing. The language is amazing and can express in so much better ways than my own language (swedish) and english as well. With such little effort you can express incredible complicated emotions. Plus all the people in japan I've met is so friendly and really appriciate that you speak japanese and always seems impressed and compliment you.
