@@euclxd8033 I strongly recommend you read up more than my brief description. They are councils called during times of theological emergencies(i.e Arianism and Iconoclasm). The successors of the Apostles, except Rome who sent Legates, gathered and hashed out the theology of Christianity at these councils. Everything we know as Christians is due to the early fathers of the Church doing this for us. All councils following the 7th are almost exclusively western and are not recognized by the EO Church

@TW-fs3fj It's a universal (global or at least represative) gathering of the bishops to settle a matter of dispute, typically regarding an issue of heresy. There is a debate between E. Orthodoxy and Romanism over whether such a universal Synod can be convened by the Emperor or the Roman pontiff. Protestantism would likely side with the E.O. on the legitimacy of who can call, although many Protestants also argue that it is an irrelevant matter of jurisprudence and what's truly at stake is false doctrine (the power to settle it being derived from Scripture alone) -- aka, the most consistent Protestant answer to who can call a Council and thus guarantee its Ecumenical and authoritative status is not Pope or Caesar but God's Word. That's why I don't understand your argument.

No I think @redeemedzoomer6053 is right about this. Just some personal experience (so take it as you will), when I was a young kid, before I knew any philosophy or complex theology, I used to pray to God that I wanted a toy that would last forever. I used to want to buy only plastic toys because I read that plastic would last in the universe forever, lol. God basically “told me” that I have to put my love of things second to my love of God and fellow man but that my desire for the infinite was not unfounded. I think those things which we loved and cherished here on earth will be redeemed and restored at Christ’s second coming. “Behold, he makes all things new.”
@nc956 Жыл бұрын
@@Knsoms I'm not arguing against them being restored. I'm just saying that it's not the only metaphysical possibility to last eternally. The deeds and the Churches may physically perish, but what they influenced is eternal. Similarly you can see the past as something that "is no more" or just as something that "enabled the present to exist". In this sense nothing you ever do is truly lost. So even now every good is eternal. Evil will last long but it will be destroyed by God eventually. We don't reject the idea of Christendom, we just approach eschatology like sanctification: there's no equivalent to Wesleyan perfection in either loci of Lutheran theology. Hey, Redeemed Zoomer I think you have a very big gap in your Theology here. You say that animals should have to go to heaven because they have pain in this earth. But you think that it is okay for the "non-elect" to go to hell because they were born into sin. I think it is not just for God to do this because there is no choice for the non-elect to be redeemed. Also, does this make animal lives worth more than the non-elects? I really like some of your videos, and I want you to know this isn't a hate comment. _I think it is not just for God to do this because there is no choice for the non-elect to be redeemed_ This doesn't cohere my friend. The fact that God will send some people to hell shows that He is in fact just. That He cares about justice. All sin is punished somewhere, either on the cross of Christ or in hell. Jesus bore the sins of many, even sinners in hell will only be paying for their own sins, Jesus took on the sins of billions if not trillions of people and perfectly satisfied the wrath that was due to them. Jesus suffered way more than any sinner in hell ever will, and that's why the message of salvation is so powerful and compelling. God desires everyone to repent, but if someone does not repent then God will judge them JUSTLY because God *IS* JUST.

Hey man, I've been watching your videos for a while and it's been a funny ride. I was raised in Pentecostal churches (Church of God of Prophecy to AG to non-denominational*), but I do agree with the majority of your theology, I just happen to reject Calvinism under the pretext that we are justified by faith. I don't know about others, my church believes that grace made salvation available to all, but it's those that have faith are who will take possession of the gift of salvation. (My pastor is actively making Pentecostalism more intellectual by breaking down the original Hebrew and Greek for modern English audiences). We technically have a choice because of the Cross, but the greater choice is to choose Him, which brings Him more glory than a set number of saved by lottery. Sounds like RNG. Note about speaking in tongues, because there is some confusion between speaking, and worshipping/praying in tongues. I explain this with foreign language, my favorite subject. If I speak French to you, and you don't know French, I should probably give you an interpretation so you can understand what I said. Now imagine if I'm on the phone with someone else in front of you, and having a conversation in French. I don't think I'd have to translate for you, unless there was something to be shared with you. That's the difference, when worshipping or praying in tongues, we're just praising or talking to Him in our prayer language, in fact my pastor on a number of occasions invited the congregation to worship the Lord in our prayer languages. (Our church isn't a bully about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit either, some people are more reserved and others are more demonstrative, some are emotional while others are intellectual) We also reject any "sinking ship fallacy" like this one, because we're crazy enough to go to psychic fairs. Why? Because God won't be outdone by crystals or fortune tellers. We have a better Covenant, established on better promises, and thus a superior product than anything this world could offer. I read a book called "God and Caesar" by John Eidsmoe, was slightly concerned that Two Kingdoms related to that book, but it doesn't. In fact Eidsmoe advocates for Christians to take part in politics and war, praying for all your leaders and representatives, not just the ones you like. My pastor even preaches about a church either influencing the culture around it, to become more godly, or allow the culture to affect it, and become like the world. And in my mind, a more godly culture means more people would accept Christ and serve Him, thus God is further glorified and His Kingdom manifests to a greater degree on this Earth. But I'm guessing that I fall under heterodox so idk if this is of any value to you.

Wow this is beautiful. No one has ever explained these things to me like this. About to watch for a third time. I also have lots of questions. I feel like believing this could lead me down some weird paths. I am wondering, if we're building hospitals now to build the kingdom of God but we think only good things will be in heaven, will hospitals be there? In this theology it seems like the good things we build now should be there but there won't be sickness or injury in heaven so what need will we have of hospitals? Also if the suffering of animals is bad and God wants us to begin now the redemptive work he will perfect in heaven, should all Christians be vegetarians?

I reckon that if God didn't love pets and see them as a good thing, He wouldn't have literally put the animals under Adam's dominion. It's strange to think that the animals God endeavoured to place in the garden of Eden to keep Adam company should have no place in His Kingdom.
@BenjaminAnderson21 Жыл бұрын
It goes without saying that the Church represents the kingdom of heaven on this earth--after all, as you pointed out, we are the "light of the world" and the "salt of the earth"--but I don't think the language of us 'building the kingdom' is very Scriptural. Jesus talked an awful lot about us entering the kingdom of God and inheriting the kingdom of God, but there's no indication that the Church's service to the world equates to building it. Hospitals, as important as they are, aren't the kingdom of heaven. Cathedrals, as beautiful as they are, aren't the kingdom of heaven. Erecting those things doesn't build or spread God's kingdom. It only reflects the glory of it. It's a foretaste of Christ's eternal kingdom. It isn't the kingdom itself.
@kriegjaeger Жыл бұрын
Well said! To imagine humanity can build the kingdom of heaven is unfortunately a very worldly view that often misleads people into chasing power for a "good" cause. See the rebellion of Bar Kochba. We can only humbly serve the lord as we have been commanded. He didn't tell us to build his kingdom, he told us to spread his gospel, feed and clothe the poor, tend to the sick, visit the widow, represent him in the world. It's a simple question of "What did Jesus do?"
@Required-c9j Жыл бұрын
Yes. Anyone who subscribes to the idea that we are charged with building the kingdom of God on Earth need to wrestle with the idea that the woke Marxists, those who really understand that theology, are also attempting to build the kingdom of God on earth by destroying everything on it. Even though you worship different deities, do you really think the plans of the Most High would parallel the plans of the wicked. Jesus said unless you were born of air (spirit) (born from above) you cannot see the kingdom of God. The kingdom is spiritual, and Christs death on the cross, his descent into Hades, his loosening of the bounds of death, and his eventual return in the clouds to destroy the temple (John 2:19, Matthew 26:61) all paved the way for whoever who believes in Him, to enter the kingdom of God. Our job is to guide others so that they can experience everlasting life with God, when we all inevitably pass away. That's why I reject Kingdom of Earthers!
@BenjaminAnderson21 Жыл бұрын
@@Required-c9j The Kingdom of God is certainly a physical bodily kingdom (1st Corinthians 15) but it is important to recognize that the Bible doesn't describe it as something we build but rather something we enter through Christ. This world is going to pass away, but that's only because it's going to give way to a far more glorious one.
@Required-c9j Жыл бұрын
@BenjaminAnderson21 Respectfully, you ought to reread your citation. 1 Cor 15 does not support a physical kingdom, re-read verses 35-49 with a specific focus on verse 44. Also, take Christs words himself on the topic of 1 cor 15; Matthew 22:29-33). It is spiritual and the only way to enter it is through Christ as you say. It's waiting for you and iI when we eventually die. This is what Christ was trying to drill into his apostles and disciples. However, they did not understand it immediately. Take Mark 10:35-45, Luke 9:51-56, James and John asked these things of Christ because they believed (as many today still do) that Christ was coming to conquer and bring in a new age where they would rule on Earth. Notice how Christ rebukes them, saying they have no idea what they speak of. Now you have to ask yourself, does a physical kingdom really marry up with what Christ himself says? Now if you mean physical kingdom as in something meta-physical... then you are agreeing with me but with different language. When I say spiritual, I mean it is real and it exists just like a chair exists. A side note, 1 cor 15 is actually one of the passages that I've come to learn actually describes what will happen in our future. Verses 20-28 map perfectly with Revelation 20:11-15. So it is interesting that you brought it up. God bless you.
@BenjaminAnderson21 Жыл бұрын
@@Required-c9j I suppose I may have just misunderstood what you meant by "spiritual." I just sort of assumed you meant some ethereal reality in which our souls aren't bound to any body and there isn't any kind of natural existence. This is what Paul was refuting in 1st Corinthians 15. He was nailing the point home that our bodies are going to be resurrected just as Christ's was. You're definitely right that we will be "spiritual" in that our new body will be a spiritual one rather than one made of dust.

Biblically, we're supposed to sow the Word and reap the harvest. Raising questions like "won't all the elect be saved anyway" fall into the same kind of idea as "why pray if God knows our hearts and can do whatever He wants". We pray because God teaches us to pray. When people obey Him, He responds by blessing them and growing the Kingdom. When they don't obey, sure, God will still save the elect. But... it won't be because of the disobedient. In fact, if the term "disobedient" applies to you (generally) then you have bigger concerns to worry about.

I agree with what you are saying, but when it says “all creation” I think it means all of God’s Creation, not the world you created on a video game…most of the Bible when it references “all creation” is usually referring to God’s creation. And when you talked about building something beautiful when you know it will get deleted isn’t correct. According to that, why care about relationships and what you do with your life on this earth if you are only going to live on this earth once…

As for "why people make things if they don't last" People create all manner of things that won't last and have labored to create things they will never themselves personally enjoy, take the beautiful churches and sanctuaries they piled the stones for to never rest under their eaves, and then only for that church to be demolished centuries later to make way for a strip mall. All good things being recovered is a nice thought, but who is the judge of what is 'good'? I don't think we make much that is truly "good". As for pets in heaven, God did breath life into beasts of the field and clean animals the same way he did humans (Though we are uniquely made in his image). We do know man's spirit goes above while animals go below. Will they be back? Maybe, will they be 'owned'? I don't know, not everyone who loves their pet treats them well. Insects I'm not so sure. Life was breathed into things that have blood. Insects do not have blood. Insects that drink blood I suspect are especially signifigant in ways we don't understand. Though it's worth noting mosquitos for instance only drink blood during their egg creation cycle as I recall, otherwise they drink nectar like butterflies.

Hey @redeemedzoomer6053 I watched your video on Catholicism. It’s pretty good, but I am genuinely curious, how do you explain the ~1000 year reign of Catholicism and Orthodoxy in regards to Protestantism. Like how do you reconcile the fact that the Protestant denominations don’t come into the picture until the 1500s? Was the Church corrupted during that time? Which Church is the true Church? Or do you believe there is no true church? (I’m Catholic btw, love your vids, keep up the good work)

@@Knsoms I would also add some other names to the list that those that @CliffCardi gave. Henery of Toulouse, 12th century. His followers were called apostolics by Rome because they would not believe something if it could not be deducted from scripture. Peter Bruis, 11th century. He wrote a book entitled 'Antichrist' in which he denounced the Pope as the Antichrist. He also upheld the other Reformed doctrines. Berengarius, 11th century. He was famous for rejecting transubstantiation. Bishop Claudio of Turin, 9th century. He rejected the idolatry of the Roman Catholic Church (and the Roman mass and transubstantiation) and wrote commentary's on Paul's Epistles, Genesis, Leviticus, and Matthew in which he set forth the Reformed doctrine. Bishop Paulinus of Aquileia, 9th century. He rejected transubstantiation and warned man of looking to any other mediator that Jesus Christ. In doing this he affirmed that forgiveness of sin came only through God and that no priest, nor bishop, nor pope had the power to forgive sins. Bishop Mansuelus of Milan, 7th century. Upheld justification by Faith. Bishop Laurentius of Milan, 6th century. Rejected that a priest was necessary for the forgiveness of sins, rather holding that the true repentant sinner would be forgiven without the need of a priest. I also add Bishop Ambrose to the list. Ambrose was not exactly in line with Roman Catholic doctrine if you read his works and was far closer to Protestant than Catholic.

Surely it's both, right? You usually point to the architect of a huge building when asking "who made it?", but the building itself still had to be assembled by hundreds of workers putting in hundreds of hours. He is building the kingdom through us. We are still involved, but helped by the Spirit.

Isn't the Kingdom of God the set of all people, who have God's Law written on their hearts? I suspect that "Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done" is an example of parallelism, like we find in many psalms. It's a restatement of the same concept.

If you rely on N. T. Wright kind of thought for your eschatology, you assume Revelation was written before 70 AD. If it was written after such date, his whole points are meaningless.
@Required-c9j Жыл бұрын
I don't know anything about NT Wright or his position on eschatology. But what I do know is that if Revelation was shown to be written after 70AD, which many claim for their own purposes, then I would throw away my faith completely. Too much of the Gospel and the letters foreshadow the destruction of the temple and the change from the Jewish age to the reign of Christ in the kingdom of God in heaven. This includes the majority of Revelation up until chapter 20. It is by far the most coherent interpretation of all eschatology interpretations. All the rest require different degrees of mental gymnastics to overcome the inherent contradictions between their beliefs and what Christ actually said.
@amatjugi Жыл бұрын
I understand your concern but I disagree, and certainly encourage you not to forfeit your valuable faith on such a secondary matter like how or when will the final days happen. I am not a Macarthurite, but I recommend you Google this: John MacArthur "Why every Calvinist should be premillennial?". Also, as far as I have studied, it is quite probable that Revelation was written after 70 AD, and this doesn't affect the words of Jesus about what was going to happen nor does it make escathology a complicated matter when reading Revelation itself. Let me recommend a book in case you may find it valuable: Michael J. Vlach: Dispensationalism: Essential Beliefs and Common Myths
@Required-c9j Жыл бұрын
@amatjugi When I say I'd forfeit my faith, I say it with conviction and assurance that I would not, because I don't agree with Calvinistic interpretation of scripture. Whether you agree with me or not is irrelevant, but there is a reason why many believers fight and reject those doctrines and why many non-believers scoff at the church and what it teaches today when it comes to eschatology. How can a non-believer believe in the risen God when you also believe in fantastical mysteries of a rapture. Nonsense. Just because you don't see how they weaken the words of Christ especially when he specifically says that the generation will not pass away. I've heard plenty of attempts to address this and they are all nonsense to my ears. You will likely have your own answer which seems valid and coherent in your mind, but I guarantee that it will be stupid. I'll get my bingo card ready. As far as being written beyond 70AD, it will be impossible for me to convince you. Because the answers are not found in Wikipedia or among other sources written by people who hold a futuristic interpretation. All I can say is that the Bible makes more sense as a whole, from Genesis to Revelation, if that book was written prior to 70AD as the final fulfilment of Gods plan to destroy the evil principalities that ruined the Earth prior the flood and continued to disobey God after the flood. For instance one such example are the references to Babylon, which link all the way back through Nimrod who links back to Ham, who was the wicked son of Noah. Maybe you should study that some more? All this goes away if you think it is all referring to some modern day or distant future Jerusalem, which has no connection to the dead Babylonian empire. Or do you want to clutch at straws and play geopolitics and try to simulate in your mind how the present day world could ever match up to scriptures written thousands of years ago? Not to mention, I've not seen a fulfilled prophecy in scripture that occurred 2000 years plus after it was written. So, the Bible itself cannot serve as its own precedent. Do you see how stupid this belief is? Perhaps not, but do you at least see why I think it is stupid and will not waste my energy pursuing it any more? Lastly, I leave you with this. I am sure we both agree on who our saviour is, and that through his Grace alone we can have everlasting life. There is no quarrel there. The difference between you and I is that I will live my life, trying to serve God and live by the words of Christ. You will do similar I'm sure, I hope, but you will always be waiting for something that isn't coming. You will never see a rapture, it is unbiblical. You might even end up being deceived if someone manages to simulate the things that you think are going to happen. How's that third temple coming along? Are you sure it is what you think it is? God bless you. My words may offend and I hope they do, because I want to encourage you to look beyond the Calvinistic nonsense that isn't even coherent and consistent amongst those who follow it.
@amatjugi Жыл бұрын
@@Required-c9j Firstly, thanks for your time, but you are wrong about me being a Calvinist. I am more of a Provisionist. I find your message quite long and with too much detail for someone who's done arguing futuristic beliefs on escathology. Are you worried about me or are you just angry? I hope the former is the case. However, know that I am not open to any escathologic understanding - of the future or the past - that doesn't make sense with the Bible. Don't worry, I know you find my dispensationalism a problem, and I am fine with peaceful disagreement. I will take advantage of having your attention, let me recommend you a last work that I found useful (since you encouraged me to study more, let me do the same here): "Dispensationalism and Free Grace: Intimately Linked" by Grant Hawley.

My only advise, be careful this line of thought doesn’t carry you into post millennialist thought or even worse theonomy. I heard it said once “you can not legislate the kingdom of God”, not to mention The Lord Jesus stated my kingdom is not of this earth. The devil is the god of this world (according to The Bible) and things will get worse and worse until the tribulation, and then the day of The Lord which will bring with it our transition into Jesus’s kingdom on earth. We are to preach the gospel and guide souls to salvation, not strive to mold society into God’s kingdom on earth.
