It could be, but this was my user experience simply taking this out of the box and trying to use it, and it did not function as it should have as well as other reasons such as it was still a bit unstable, especially compared to my 30 year old Manfrotto I was comparing it to.
@lordofgonzo

@@RichMaza The problem is, it wasn't any less unstable than the Manfrotto. In fact, it could easily be argued that it was more stable just on the basis of it stopped wiggling faster than the other one by a noticeable amount. Also, I have the exact same setup as what you reviewed, and it all works perfectly, save the PD quick connect tabs kind of getting in the way, some of the time, and that's an easy fix. And don't get me started on the bag. The graphic is printed inside the bag, and is about as easy to understand as anything can be. I'm not saying your review was disingenuous, and I'm not trying to be an ass, but maybe a little time with a product you're not wholly familiar with would be beneficial in the future.

@@RichMazayou didn't even read the manual it was embarrassing. Also you don't even understand the concept of a monopod. I haven't had any issues with the fluid head locking I think it's a great tool for videographers and really anyone who does any sort of run and gun. You just have no idea that a monopod was never meant to replace a tripod I am amazed you haven't destroyed every camera you own with your user error and incompetence.

This has to be the funniest video I have ever seen. Sir I truly believe you have no clue of what you're doing. I would never want you to handle any of my equipment the way you handle your own equipment. First off I only have the version two and I've never had any of the problems that you're talking about. I can understand why the monopod does not lock in place when it's leaning over. For one the weight of the camera alone with it tilted would cause it to fall over anyway. If you need it to tilt then you need to get a tripod. And honestly you never gave a true review of how it work. And reading the directions probably would have helped you a lot. I use my version 2 with my Canon R3 and a Canon EF400mm f/2.8 mounted and I've never had any of the issues that you're talking about. I'm sure if I did buy the version 3, I wouldn't have any issues with it either. I just think that you are using it for the wrong purpose and you want to use it as if it is a tripod. And if I were the manufacturer I would be very glad that you returned it and posted the video to show everyone how inept you really are and don't know what you're doing, it's a great video to show people what not to do with their gear.

Hi Rich, Regarding the bag size. It is my understand the the carry bag has Velcro tabs, which can be released to extend the carry bag length to accommodate the monopod with the head accessory you choose. I think you would have not encountered the problems had you taken the time to read the instructional manual. Understanding how to correctly use the product would no doubt have avoided the intense levels of frustrations you experienced. Perhaps an alternative to reading the manual, viewing some of the instructional videos provided on KZbin might assist you. Bye the way your, video does have some merits. It shows you what can happen when you don't understand the intended correct use of the product. Good Luck in the future.

There is a strap inside the bag at one end that if you un velcro it , you can push that end out. This allows an attached ball heat to fit. Even with the K5S big one.

Hi David, I'm very pleased with my ifootage Cobra 3 monopod. I was so impressed with the quality and functionality that I proceeded to purchase a number of iFootage monopod accessories. I get a little irritated when some folk like to give an authoritative point of view on a subject when they come from a point of ignorance! Unfortunately it is way too common on the internet these days and one needs to be mindful that it is necessary for one to carry out due diligence and independent research. Kind regard

I own the Cobra 3 and it’s awesome! Sad you didn’t take the time to read the manual, not to mention simply closely looking at the monopod since it is label locked and unlocked. And the bag is clearly marked instructing you to pull the Velcro to extend the bag to accommodate a head. It seems nearly everyone else on KZbin understood how to use this monopod. Yet it escaped you. You’re clearly not stupid, but your frustration levels and anger issues are clearly getting in your way.

As it happens, I used the exact same Manfrotto monopod (which I really liked) for over 10 years (with a Manfrotto ball head). I purchased the iFootage Cobra3 pedal with no head, and mounted the Manfrotto ball head on it. I use the monopod as a monopod most of the time (without the minipod feet) and find it to be a great monopod (note that the little red cap from the bottom can be attached to the bottom of the monopod). I have used the mini tripod as a table top tripod (switching the head from the monopod to the minipod) and also used the monopod with the feet attached as a light stand (a way I have also used the Manfrotto in the past) with a speedlight or small strobe. A monopod with feet (whether the Manfrottos or the iFootage or any of the other monopods available with feet) are really not intended to be a tripod. To expect a monopod to be stable with a camera on it is not realistic. Oh, the bag fits with the ballhead fine. Look in the case and pay attention to the straps in it. Read the manual next time. That way you won't have the Error between device and chair that you are demonstrating. My recommendation would be that you have returned their ball head and buy a ballhead that you like. The advantage of the iFootage monopod (in my opinion) is the multiple options. It's ballhead is clearly nothing special. I think the monopod is (much lighter than the Manfrotto).

I own the Cobra 2 and the same ball head, with mine there is a velcro tab inside the bag that lets you extend it so a head will fit, the 3 should be the same. As far as the head goes, I had the same problem until I realised there's a hex screw hidden at the back of the clamp and after adjusting that all my other plates worked fine. So if anyone is having the same problem, try that. I also own the other monopod you were using and I prefer the Cobra 2 to that now. I agree that it’s not much more stable but I find the ability to adjust the Cobra to different angles very useful and the feet make a great mini-tripod for low shots. I think your frustration was justified as not everything about the monopod was obvious but if you still have it I think you’d quite enjoy it if you gave it another chance 🙂

Well, coincidence or not this popped up as a suggestion for me this evening. Received this model mono pod and a K5S fluid head yesterday. Assembled it today. Without opening the instructions attached a Nikon Z6 with a 50mm lens. I did not have high expectations that this would be nice and sturdy and I can say I wouldn't walk away from it very far. But it is well built, not cheap. For my use case I wanted something to hold a camera and not have to have a tripod to carry around. And hopefully have less of a footprint so I wouldn't get hassled about using a tripod or have others trip on it. Safety first. I got the fluid head to use creating video with the Z6. I'm older and hand held is herky jerky. I only used this for a short bit so no conclusions yet. But initial impression is a 50% maybe Ok on the Cobra 3. But that ball head is going back. the knob too loosed the plate to the camera is too close to the bottom of the camera. 100% no go. The non Arca Swiss bugs me big time too. Rich , thanks for this. It's sometimes nice to see some else's frustration with things .

Use them for what they are designed for and are just brilliant.

Humorous are you. I just got mine and saw how to attach and release the plate. If you would have simply seen on the red ring you would have seen the lock/unlock and that all you had to do was push down to unlock the plate and push the plate down to lock it in place. Also, the case has an easily seen image of an actual video head (even bigger than your dinky ball head) with an arrow and the words “Push Out” to accommodate such a bulky head without having to remove it from the monopod. It’s secured in place when not needed with a strap and velcro. I am having trouble removing the 3/8” threads on the quick release plate to expose the 1/4” threads I need to attach my new Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 heavy lens to, which is why I ordered this monopod to relieve all the weight from my arms and transfer to the monopod. There are no instructions I could find in the manual for how to safely change the male threads and no youtube video I could find either so I’ve emailed iFootage support and asked them to send me thread changing instructions for the plate. In the meantime, I think this reviewer, RichMaza’s eyesight is poor & simply needs to get some glasses.

I watched this video because I plan to buy this monopod based on various reviews I've seen, so I was interested in seeing the opinion of someone who apparently wasn't impressed. While I appreciate your honesty, I have to say, I really don't understand people wanting to put their camera on a monopod and then have it function hands-free; that's what a tripod is for. The way I see it a monopod is a tool to give you extra stability where you'd otherwise have hand held, and the feet serve to improve on that stability. I can't imagine any situation where I'd want to lock the monopod at an angle, I'd find it incredibly frustrating if it did that. It's doing its job giving that freedom to angle slightly into a shot or dolly, then lock it back upright. So even though I'd have to agree to disagree with your conclusion, I like that you stated clear reasons why it's not the right tool for YOU, and in the end this video has made me settle even more, in my mind, that this will be a great monopod for the work I do. Great review...

Tip to solve your arca Swiss problem.... Pick yourself up a pair of ifootage 'seastars' then you can use ANY head and swap between multiple tripods / monopods including heads, a game changer. I've just backed the Cobra STRIKE 3 (new model) and I share similar concerns about not being able to lock at ANY angle at a tight or tensioned operation. I've sent a few ideas their way on how to solve this issue that doesn't seem to be solved yet other than tightening at bottom wheel. I do or will no doubt 'feel' your pain once my Strike 3 arrives. I've owned that Manfrotto monopod for God knows how many years (maybe 20?) and never unscrewed the bottom to know what was inside! Wow am I an idiot

You know after seeing the video I almost backed off and not purchased this exact same monopod, so back to the researching I went and discovered I few things along the way. And the commentors are right but I will not be so rude to comment as this is your channel and intitled to your opinion. Without purchasing it I got myself a hold of a pdf owner's manual and read though the thing and then pulled the trigger & ordered it. This monopod is awesome, IF used like it is intended to be used. It's a monopod and not intended to be used as tripod. This thing is meant for quick mobility with descent stability with you still holding on to your rig and in my case for the excellent fluid motion provided by the Komodo K5s for video work. After you kick in the foot lever there is a friction knob that has to be adjusted properly on the bottom and you should preadjust it with the camera and lens installed on the monopod so it will pivot smoothly, and it is definitely not designed to stand a big wildlife rig. Maybe I will trust it to stand on a windless day a camera body and a small lens in the upright position, temporarily but that is it. As far your situation, in my opinion I wouldn't have purchased that Komodo Ball Head and just used your own avoiding incompatibility issues. It will be interesting to see if the K5s will work with my Arca Swiss and btw I also own the same plates you showed in your video since I use them to clip on my smaller camera gear on to my backpack. I will figure out that issue if it arises.

I own the Cobra 2 and found it to be the best monopod I've ever seen or used. Ok, I've only used this one. lol. Anyway, the only thing that the Cobra 2 needs improvement on is that the tripod base should be a few inches longer, for added stability. Otherwise I'm totally satisfied with it. I'll probably buy the new tripod base with the longer legs. I don't need the foot pedal lock, so I'll get the regular ball type. I hope it's compatible with the Cobra 2 monopod quick release. Btw, the bag on the Cobra 3 will extend to a accommodate a video head or a ball head. There must be a slight deviation in the width of your arca swiss plates and the iFootage ball head. Something is definitely amiss. I feel your frustration RichMaza. I've bought gear that turned out to be total junk. It's the worst feeling knowing that I wasted money buying junk that had positive reviews by some KZbin influencers and had to go to a lot of hassle returning it. Not really much of a review more than a first impression in my opinion. You seemed like you gave up on it pretty quickly without fully testing it. There seems like a lot of user error because I even though I saw this video and thought oh crap, I still went and bought it and I have to say I'm stoked with it. In my findings, I found that the reason the plate wasn't clicking into place for you was because you didn't push the quick release system all the way down which then clicks and locks the plate into place. The other thing you mentioned is the foot pedal not holding the weight at a certain angle. I do soccer and landscape photography so my mileage may differ but I use a monopod as support on an angle to correct for unlevelled ground so for me even if I had the ball head version, I don't think I would be leaving my valuable gear balancing on that angle. I would much prefer to use my tripod in that situation. Also the bag extends out to allow you to put a bigger ball head/video head. I'm all for constructive feedback for companies but sometimes it's worth spending a little bit more time with the product to actually see its pro's and con's. I felt compelled to comment because a lot of people are going to look at a video like this and be switched off from one bad experience. Anyways just my two cents, please take this comment as constructive criticism for future videos.

A tripod will always be much sturdier than any mono pod. Although on occasion, I do use a mono pod as a standalone to hold the camera when it’s not windy. You are always taking the gamble that a wind gust could blow it over and ruin your camera. if you’re looking for the most stable method, you should get a tripod. My complaint about this was that it was not greatly more stable than my 30 year old Manfrotto mono pod. I would have hoped in 30 years that they became even more stable but that is not the intended point of a mono pot. If you do not have a Tripod, go up for the Tripod first. You can always add a mono pod later.

Although It appears you missed some of the points of a monopod and some of the features of the iFootage Cobra 3 in general, your video gave me big second thoughts as to investing into a Cobra 3 or rather not. First of all, a monopod never ever replaces a tripod. Secondly, the pedal is not thought to lock at any angle oder than self-centering. It is rather thought to enable fluid motions in conjunction with a fluid head. It really is a feature for videographers. However, when I got this monopod demonstrated to me in a shop the other day, the salesman ran into the exact same problem as you show in your unboxing review. The locking mechanism failed and even completely jammed such that the plate could not be removed anymore. The other issue I'd fully share your disappointment with is the incompatibility with the PeakDesign plate and anchor strap ecosystem. For me, this really is a make or break item as I really love the PeakDesign straps and anchors above any other camera carrying system.

Thank you for the honest review of the monopod. I was dead keen to purchase this monopod until your honest review made me no longer interested in purchasing it due to the multiple flaws that no other sponsored KZbinr talks about. You are the only one I seen yet that talks about the flaws the monopod has. I owned ifootage nano slider and the K5 fluid head (cost extra). And I am too, extremely disappointed that the K5 fluid head design has made it impossible to take out the fluid head right after I put it in. I spent over 1k USD to fix problems that shouldn't even be a problem. Having own iFootage stuff, sure the build quality is solid. However, there seems to be QC issue with almost every product I seen for ifootage. Or maybe I just had a bad unit. Unfortunately, the ifootage is not on my local, so I had it purchase it internationally. Thus, local warranty for service is not available. Your review has stopped me from purchasing another ifootage product, and I am glad it happened. I am going with Coman brand next, a china brand. Which I owned their coman tripod and it served me with zero error. Thus, I am looking into their monopod next to replace ifootage instead. Oh and after watching several of your KZbin reviews videos. I am quite happy with your honest content on the use of the product. If you happen to have Zhiyun M2S, I will be just as inclined to watch. But it is alright if you don't own it. Nice video man. That ARCA Swiss pretty much means nothing it seems. Every company has their own idea ...so you have to buy their $25.00 plates. lol

I also purchased this with their KS5 monopod head and sadly I have to say I completely agree with your findings. This system sounds like a great idea but in reality does not work nearly as well as higher end tripod/monopod equipment I have (i.e. from PromediaGear and Really Right Stuff). I had problems with their attachments locking properly (I bought few additional quick release plates and only the one that came with the monopod attaches at all - the other 2 don't even work proporly - very frustrating). I still ended up keeping it (for the mini tripod function only) but finally ended up buying ProMediaGear TR32ML monopod with their HM1 monopod head as well as Wimberley MonoGimbal head and those are incredible - night and day difference where it's really not even fair to compare. Of course that stuff is much more expensive but you get what you pay for. My guess is Cobra3 may be very nice and gets great reviews from people who are used to using cheaper equipment previously and I can see how it can be seen as an upgrade in that case. But if you are used to higher end equipment and have heavy and expensive cameras/lenses while you can make iFootage work it will probably end up feeling like a significant downgrade.

Wow, I just got this and haven't opened the box yet and you have me really rethinking this. I wanted something I could use when traveling in place of a tripod, but clearly not as stable as I wanted and the bag issues...totally agree.

Im not a fan of tripods, and very rarely use monopods. But I have been looking into this one, as I see that it has its use. That said, monopods are not ment to be used as a tripod. To get stability, you have to be the stability factor holding the camera or lens. Or just change to a tripod. And who would risk a expensive camera, with a even more expensive lens, on a monopod, and leaving it by itself?! And for heavens sake: Read the manual!!

To my eyes in your video the manfrotoo was not more stable at all - looking at your video - the ifootage seems to find its center and settle way faster than the manfrotto - wich i guess is due to the leg design at the bottom of the iffottage not being as thin and having rubber feet. Also they make a version of this (or you could just get the other foot as an accesories item - without the foot pedal - this version you can tighten and then you could have it on an angle - i would not recommend it with anything heavier than a phone though, because gravity exists. :D I think one has to dive into what a monopod is - i see it as a tool to relieve my body from carrying something in a handheld situation... - not a tripod - if there is not wind and no people around it can stand by itself with a camera on it - but would i walk away from it - never. I thing this review has missed some points. But i wish you all the best.

You obviously did not do your homework on this monopod. This is me, but I’m sure others, but I do not like when a person does a review on a product and does not try it totally out first do you know how everything works. Here we are subject to you trying items out and have to wait till you figure out how items work on this device. When in doubt call the company and ask about your specific question on that arca Swiss plate and maybe they can tell you how to solve the problem if it’s possible at all. Good luck with your new and old monopod. It hand maybe their plate is normal but the one you have with the grip is the odd ball out. Just maybe. IMHO

Slow down, read the manual, give yourself some time to figure stuffs out completely before making judgement. This whole video is a reflection of who you and your experience in video work. This product probably does not suit you, but that doesn't mean it's a bad product. By the way, get a fluid head for video, man.

My issues with this mono pod may have been user error, or may have not been. But I still wanted some thing a little bit more stable. I am hoping in the next version or another company will come out with one that has longer feet at the bottom so these mono pods will become even more stable than they are now. Thanks for watching.

its him, he does not know how to use it. He did not even give it a chance. I guess Ifottage did not lose a customer at all. I just bought mine and its no hype from KZbin. Its all boil to the person who is in need of this new gadget. My picture taking has improve and sharper and I do not need the Tripod at all. I gave his remark a thumbs down and his video.

or my goodness this is a monopod it's not a tripod if you want stability buy a tripod and carry it all the time if that's better for you. Don't be idiots, the name is a monopod. A single foot, this is just a support so you don't carry the weight of your camera all the time. don't be girls

With all due respect, one of the worst reviews I have seen on KZbin is full of wrong information and clumsy/awful handling of equipment. I get it, using that title on the video you got our views, but you also lost all credibility as a filmmaker, and no one who knows anything about gear would actually watch any of your other videos. Please do your homework before you give an expert opinion. This Monopod is actually fantastic, and remember, it's a MONOPOD, NOT A TRIPOD.

Yes it does, and it even has printed inside the bag "Push Out" witha graphic of a head. It almost seems like this guy went into his review wanting to hate the product. I have both a Cobra2 and Cobra3 pedal version. Both perform perfectly, but I do not use eithe with a head, so cant comment on that.
