I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning...to the end. He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years. For that dash represents all the time that they spent alive on earth. And now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own -- the cars...the house...the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash. So, think about this long and hard. Are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left that can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real, and always try to understand the way other people feel. And be less quick to anger and show appreciation more, and love the people in our lives like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile, remembering this special dash might only last a little while. So, when your eulogy is being read with your life's actions to rehash, would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent YOUR dash

I spent three years in Phoenix AZ working as an arborist. Two years in Salt Lake City climbing trees and rock faces in the Wasatch mountains. Two years in Plain, Washington building log homes. I was a heli logger with Columbia Helicopters in the Pacific NW and hooked cypress in swamps all over the South with the same company. I spent three years as hotshot fighting wild fires, and helped build an eighty sheet plywood press for Boise Cascade in Rock Hill SC. Along the way I hitch hiked about ten thousand miles and even hopped freight about two grand. I walked the razors edge till I was 45 living my life in reverse being influenced in my youth by something Henry David Thoreau once said: “Most people spend the best years of their life earning money in order to enjoy it during the least valuable part.” My feet have stood on some of the most beautiful places on the North American Continent and I have no regrets. At 59 I got married for the first time to wonderful lady and very soon I’ll be coming full circle as I have my eye on a 2023 Electra glide Highway King! “Lean into the wind?” Heck yeah…and lean into life as well! This one hit home with me. “Procrastination is the thief of time” is a line from a poem by English writer Edward Young published in 1742. Be wise to-day; ’tis madness to defer; Next day the fatal precedent will plead; Thus on, till wisdom is push’d out of life. Procrastination is the thief of time; Year after year it steals, till all are fled, And to the mercies of a moment leaves The vast concerns of an eternal scene. I turn 66 tomorrow and get my state pension and travel pass. I also have a motorcycle sitting in my garage for the last 6 years waiting for the day that I have time to get free. That all changes tomorrow. I’ve found a 2008 Harley Ultra Classic for sale that only has 6000 miles on it. I need to buy that bike to save it, and in so doing, save myself. Thanks for this buddy. We all have had someone that sat on the same stool at the same bar from Friday to Monday morning, when they go back to work. Mine, was a man that wore a leather bike jacket and at times bike boots, he was always interested in where I had been, as I used to call in for a brew at my local before getting home. I would give a run down on distance, the people and what occurred on the run. While supping my pint, I would overhear him recounting my trip to others This would supply him something new to talk about, I didn't mind but did feel a little sad that he seemed never to experience personally the things me, yourself and others take for granted. Keep putting it out there and ride safe. 😎

I became friends with an “anything” that I used to chat with at my local bike night. He passed away in October 2022. He used to do a few local bike rides, but nothing serious. Over the 3 years that I knew him, we became best mates, and instead of just doing the local bike night once a week, we began to ride every day. It started with me, pushing him to ride more, & longer distances too. In the end, it was him pushing me. He was a lot older than me, so I knew we wouldn’t ride forever, but I was hoping for another 10 years maybe. I was trying to plan a ride around Ireland (his ancestral home) when he became ill. They said he’d have 2 years, turned out to be 4 months.

I call them bar to bar bikers, not really motorcyclist as much prefer the latter term. You are right, its an all too common trap. Drove a beer delivery truck for a couple of years when i was young, drank a case a day everyday , saw the same people in the same bars every delivery i made day after day. Decided to just quit one day ,i was entering the trap, I think often how fortunate I was to notice the trap begining to close before i got out, whatever hand was involved that made me just loose my taste for it all. I can remember every glorious klunk of that Harley tranny as it awakens the sound of the next new gear or the downshift that releases an imediate growl to whatever is slowing me down on my way. I call them tank to tank riders....the motorcyclists...could be anybody that was fortunate enough to avoid the trap. Thanks again....Tank.

@LeanIntoTheWind4 ай бұрын
@@raab3555 it don’t sound anything like my old evo that’s for sure .. my old evo has straight through pipes .. woke the neighbourhood! My RKS .. had Vance hine mufflers That’s all but it’s really mild , It sounds better on video because microphone is on sissy bar .. so picks up really good , no one bats an eye if I ride by it’s utterly civilised. But I will address that at some point , but all money at moment going on trips I think good pipe on these bikes is ‘Two brothers shorty ‘ and that’s what I’ll probably get .
