I've been watching a lot of videos I've been watching about the 690 since I picked one up myself and I've noticed that in those videos the complaints are mostly about what the bike isn't more so than what it is. It seems that everyone tries to turn the 690 into a long haul adventure bike or cross country touring bike? I was looking for a bike that I could get back into the trails with when I bought mine. A bike that I didn't have to trailer there but could ride there instead. I was originally looking for an XR650L but wasn't able to find one in any dealerships near me then I found the KTM. More power, better suspension and fuel injected! I was sold. Added taller risers, changed to a foam air filter, slipped on a yoshimura r77 and a rottweiler fueling dongle and the bike runs, sounds great. When I started looking for a bike to use for trail riding I wasn't even considering the 690 but I'm very happy that I wound up with it. For me it's exactly what I was looking for. Brings back memories of blasting around the woods when I was a kid. I catch myself smiling every time I ride it lol

Yup, I had a 2019 Husky 701, and though it has way less vibration it is very niche for what it does. I did big off-road loops with mine, putting 10,000 miles on it in under a year. I found myself trying to make it more street comfortable which made off roading less comfortable (windscreen is now stopping the cooling, k60 tires struggled going up big rocks or loose stuff). If I was a millionaire I’d buy another one but would have a 300tpi, 500excf and then a street focused tourer. It is a great bike buuuuuut the lack of cruise and other things it can be bothersome on long freeway stints. However, it can do these things and it never let me down on the big solo loops in the middle of nowhere. Good video as always. As an only bike a 690 likely is probably lacking. Slotted between my '18 KTM 300 XC and my Super Tenere, a 690 seems perfect to hoon around town and to explore the many 4x4 trails and other off road opportunities available to me in Colorado. 690s are great for doing wheelies, and ya gotta love wheelies. One of my favorite bikes "back in the day" was my '83 XL600. I view the 690 as a vastly updated and improved XL, and that is a good thing. Probably gonna sell my '06 FZ1 and my '10 Husaberg FE450 to rejigger my stable to 300 XC, 690 R, '14 Super T, and possibly a 300cc scooter for quick runs to the store and stuff. My FE 450 is snuck by the DMV plated, but it is far more of a dirt bike than the 690 is, and pretty torturous on the street as a result. The plate on the FE is for not much more than legality on forest service roads, still have to truck the bike to the riding areas. I do love the 70 degree FE as it is cool as Hell, but have owned it for 12 years, time to move on I think. The Super T is alight on graded hard packed dirt and a supreme mile muncher, but folks who ride 600 pound bikes in anything resembling real off road are out of their minds 😆 A '19 or later pre-farkled used 690 would be ideal as the updates sound extremely worthwhile. Too bad KTM didn't spread the ratios more on the trans. A low 1st would be nice for technical off road and it isn't like a 690 doesn't have enough power to pull a tall 6th gear and the resulting gaps in between the two.

In this video you mentioned the close ratio tranny. I have a nice 2017 KTM 1090 Adventure R and it has a close ratio 6 speed also. That was my first complaint with the bike. Fist gear seems a little tall for slow off-road work while 6th is pretty low for freeway cruising. The engine buzzes at 75-80mph and I keep wanting another gear to drop engine RPM. There dash has a gear indicator which I use because with the gear ratios so close together I don't have a sense what gear I am in. KTM should have thought this through a little better. I have been riding almost 60 years. Another issue I don't like is the fact you have to remove the top half of the bike just to check the valve clearance. Then if the valve clearance needs changing you have to measure and remove the cams. This is pretty bad engineering. A pretty high price for modernization. I have a Honda XR650L that I tricked out and I can check and adjust the valves in about 15 minutes. Check out my entries on KZbin...

so you wanted a bike that´s in the middle for some offroading but still capeable on the dirt. and then it´s too much in the middle. ok. yeah but your are right anyway. i drove the supermoto version the husky 701 and it was fun but for realy offroading (yeah i had the supermoto but you can still tell if it is capeable and dirt able) a bit too heavy and the mass off the motor in motion also not soo good. but for street not comfortable enough. so better have a lighter true offroad machine and a bigger bike for touring.

3:46 „little too big and heavy” - ? - really, sayin’ this standing next to a cow? C’mon man! You have been honest with us so far. And that was why I subbed to your channel myself. Like your new bimmer? Go ahead and record a content on how good the bimmer is. It is good honestly. But 690 is not far behind in it’s own field. Recording sth’ like this you are loosing your credibility.

I only meant big and heavy for a dirtbike. For a dual sport or ADV it is very light.

690 is really smooth, compared to the old KTM 640/620. Those things are animals, feet get hammered, hands get hammered, eyeballs will spin in your head at speed. KTM doesnt do wide range gearboxes on the big single. They just dont.

I had a ktm 625. That bike made me never want to own another ktm again. Vibration was horrible... i mean really horrible. The gearbox was okay though I even geared it down. But it has at least 5x the vibration of a dr650. Was a fun bike for 30 minute rides though lol.

I’msorry man, I ‘m not agree at all: you are looking for a 890 not for a dual…. You’re looking for a 80% concrete and , maybe, 20 % white roads only for your satisfaction. 690 is the best 50/50 you can buy. The little twins, Yamaha, Aprilia are not better of 2020 Ktm mono. Even in vibration. Those are Bike with another confort on the concrete wind an dit foam. In every other field they lose.

The “new” engine is much better.... I have a 2019 Husqvarna 701 enduro ( same bike ) but I agree... the gs is a far better bike... I had a 2008 GSA which i loved and I`m ordering a 2020 R1250gs HP now !

The 690 is a compromise between road and dirt, you say its not that good at this and that while your leaning on a fucken bus, take some concrete and harden up.

I hope your not ridding that big bmw unless you only ride fire roads id like to try the new ktm 790 adventure r i think its light a nuf for more serious off roading and i know 100 lbs more than a 690 enduro but at 95 hp it has a better power to weight ratio than the exc 500 or 690 enduro and more than a nuf power to shred a canyon blast up a hill or cruise at 85 mph i don't feel like it's a heavy enduro more like the most off road capable adventure bike ever made plus a 5 gallon tank that sits low all tho my rides are only about 500 miles and less usually more like 150 so if your going to ride 1000 miles i could see wy you'd want a bigger bike if you remember the ktm 950 super enduro it weighs all most the exact same as the 790 adventure r and only had 3 more hp but was a 950 v twin id like like to see a 790 super enduro r closer to 300 lbs that would the ultimate long range enduro thanks i enjoyed your video thumbs up
