I ended up switching from Honda to Acura because of seat comfort (Accord to TSX +10 years ago). I had the same issues with hard and flat seats in the Honda. Another reason for the switch was road noise with Honda. Acura is an improvement over Honda with road noise; but, not to the same level as Lexus. Now on my 4th and 5th Acura (18 RLX Sport Hybrid & 19 MDX Sport Hybrid). Added bonus with the Acura over Honda was sport tuned sh-awd, ELS and Krell audio, Sport Hybrid System with previous gen, and sporty performance baked into its DNA. Exact same battery issues with Acura also. I've never gone over 4 years with the original Acura battery before I needed to replace under warranty or out of pocket with 4 Acuras. I now have 3 years and 10 months on my 5th Acura (19 MDX) and starting to get little power warnings if it sits over a week.

I would’ve loved to have gone from the Honda to an Acura, but it’s a big jump up in cost especially if I went with a model that could keep up performance wise with the Accord, which would of had to been the TLX Type S. The regular TLX was much slower due to the weight. The TLX Type S is $20,000 more than the Accord, so it really was never an option.

@@n-power-automotive The selection in sporty sedans isn't as good now days with the CUV/SUV being the top seller. Acura has cut some corners with the Integra, TLX, and dropped the larger RLX. @@mrgold3591 yep, all right on point. I’m super happy with my Hyundai Elantra N. It’s not luxurious in any way (maybe some tiny luxury influences with the Alcantara and tech features) but what it lacks in luxury it makes up with performance. I have a Touring 2.0t and this hasn't been my experience. Maybe because I have leather seats but I found them to actually be way more comfortable than every other car I've had. I've taken mine on a few cross-country trips, and the seats felt way more plush and less fatiguing, and even passengers said the same thing. Even the seats in my parent's Lexus feel way stiffer and less comfortable. I've also found the front to be really spacious in terms of breathing room, I don't feel shoulder to shoulder with my passenger and haven't had issues with leg room, head room, or arm room at 6'0. Had mine for 3 years and the infotainment never lagged or blacked out. The 10-speed is a bit jerky and confused at times, I do agree there, but in normal or spirited driving, it's smooth and intuitive enough for me. To each their own...I used to have an Infiniti G35 that I absolutely detested, and people thought I was crazy because of the rave reviews it had. At least we can both agree that the Accord is quick and handles well for what it is.
@n-power-automotive
@n-power-automotive Жыл бұрын
I can absolutely agree with that. I loved the car at first, I really did. I remember the first time I gave it some gas in Sport mode and I was blown away with how quick it felt. And I loved the tech when I first got it because my previous car had very little technology. But as time went on, especially once I realized I couldn’t find a comfort seating position, the other little things nagged me to death. I still loved the looks and features, and of course the driving experience, it was just too uncomfortable for me. I wonder if a Touring would’ve been a completely different experience? But I’m happy with the car I have now, so I’ve moved on and don’t regret giving the car a shot at all.

I bought a 2020 Honda Accord EXL 2.O. I went with the EXL because of the leather seats and some of the other standard features it provided like blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert. I also had read that the 17’ wheels provided a more compliant ride. I went on the make my own “sport”version by fitting it with Eibach lowering springs & front and rear sway bars. I also did some chassis stiffening with Ultra Racing strut, torsion, and power bars. I ran ultra high performance summer tires this season and I must this car is a beast. I did kind of freak out about a week in to my ownership because of seat comfort, but the leather seats became more compliant as the leather softened up. I now have no issue with the seats and in fact took it on a road trip to Florida and the ride comfort was fine. I have not experienced any of the problems that you have experienced with your Accord Sport. My infotainment has NEVER once glitched and blacked out. My transmission shifts in the very beginning of ownership were a bit jerky, but it smoothed out as the transmission “learned” my driving style. I do not find my transmission hunting for gears either. Honestly my Accord has been flawless in the 2 years and 54,000 miles of ownership. Maybe not surprisingly Consumer Reports rated the 2020 model year of the Accord with a 5/5 reliability score. As far as Hyundai/Kia I owned a 2006 Kia Soul from new and the engine suffered catastrophic engine failure at 70k miles. Luckily they DID honor the warranty and put a remanufactured engine in the Soul. I traded that car in within 2 weeks of getting it back. After that experience and all the stories I hear and read about Hyundai Motor Corp. vehicles suffering fires and catastrophic failures of engines and transmissions I could never own another Hyundai product.

I own the 2021 Accord 2.0T Touring (40K+ miles). I agree the seats could be softer for long trips, but I never have to stop just to rest my butt. Never had a blackout of the infotainment, but I have had to restart the car to get the wireless Apple Carplay to reconnect. I live in the mountains of Virginia and the 10 speed is flawless when holding a gear uphill and downshifting downhill. It does sometimes downshift a little hard when coming to a slow stop. I replaced the rear brake pads with Akebono pads due to noise when reversing, and it solved the problem. I change the oil every 5K and the transmission fluid every 30K. I hope to take this car to 250K and beyond (I'm a conservative driver, but appreciate the Accord's ability to move with urgency when needed! As for Hyundai, I've owned a 2015 base Sonata (new) and a 2020 Sonata (new). The 2015 after 108K miles was burning oil like crazy and had VVT failure. Traded for the 2020 Sonata and by 16K miles, the front rotors needed replacing due to warping (that car would not downshift on its own while in cruise). I take care of my cars and Hyundai failed me. If they fix the engine problems, I would buy another in a heartbeat. The 2015 Sonata needed "nothing" but basic maintenance for the 108K (oil, filters, trans fluid). The brakes were still fine at 108K! Just that darn engine.

I have 1-1/2 years and 20k miles on my 2.0 Sport and haven't experienced any of the, often discussed, transmission issues. I'm 6'2" and, fortunately, the seat fits me perfectly. Totally agree with the infotainment/stereo comments. Hoping that the solid engineering and reliability will continue with my current Accord. My last one ('00 LX 5spd) is pushing 350k and still hanging in there. Enjoy your N!

Thank you! And yes, my hope was that people like yourself would get that exact point; that ownership experiences and impressions can be vastly different from person to person. Unfortunately though, so many other people can’t get over the fact that Honda isn’t perfect and Hyundai isn’t a pile of garbage anymore. All manufacturers have issues and recalls. And no matter how amazing the quality control is, a few bad examples are going to make their way to market. I’m pretty sure I was just one of the unlucky ones that got an Accord with multiple issues. I too hope your Accord continues to be reliable for you and lasts as long as you’re last Accord!

Haven't looked back since. The looks of the Elantra N are very subjective but like you said it grows on you. About that low end torque, have you done the octane learning after you fill up? Max PSI can go from 15 to 20. Enjoy!!!!

Thanks! Yeah, I searched all over the mid-south for one and couldn’t find one, so I actually flew into Chicago and drove it back. It was a 2021, so it was pre-owned, which I didn’t want initially, but I wasn’t about to pay over MSRP for a new one. I’m glad you ended up with an N and are enjoying it! Yes, I know all about octane learning. How could I not, it’s the main topic on FB groups lol. The Accord is tuned to have a lot of low end HP/torque, but up top in the RPM range it runs out of steam, unlike the N which pulls all the way to redline. So it’s not a matter of the N not pulling as hard, it just feels more linear compared to the Accord in that sense. Thanks again for the comment!

The speakers are very meh. The 10 speed is also meh. Its "smooth" when it works, but it jerks from first to second in stop/go traffic, it never downshifts far enough and 10 gears is just too much. The handling is "fine", with sway bars its much better, because the rear end is way too floaty. The safety system is way too intrusive. The wind noise is absurdly loud. Road noise is just as bad. What is good is the practicality, the power, the fuel economy is also great, I average 31 in my 2.0t. Its a really good sedan that goes really fast in a straight line. Its also very reliable.

I really liked the idea of the push button shifting when I first got the Accord, but as the newness wore off it felt too gimmicky and I missed just a regular ole shift lever, too.

Bad move brother. Apparently you haven’t heard about the 1 million cars recalled by Hyundai? How customers have had transmission and engine failures especially? How there is waiting lists for new engines? 🤷🏾‍♂️💯📠 But hey… you do you 💀 One thing that was a deal breaker for me on the Accord was the rear end look. Idk what Honda was thinking on this design and yea the batteries have been troublesome for quite a while. My wife has the 10 speed on her 22 Odyssey and it’s been absolutely flawless. Best of luck tho to you in your N 🙏🏾

I was a Honda perdone for over 20 years and finally switched to a Toyota!! Same reason from a Honda noisy ride, jerky transmission, same body style for decades, but they are great cars, but switched to a Toyota RAV4

The Accord is a family sedan, the Elantra N is a performance vehicle. Two totally different vehicles for specific needs. Better comparison would be a Type-R & Elantra N.

I don’t agree. Both are 4 door sedans, 4 cylinder turbos with 250ish HP, offer an automatic transmission, and are priced around $35,000. The CTR is a hatchback, over 300 HP, does not offer an automatic transmission, and is $39,000 and selling for $50,000+ with dealer markups.

Never buying a Hyundai again after my 2013 Azera engine died at 100k, there great cars but have horrible reliability. As soon as a Hyundai hits 100k it’s done and u regret ever going with the cheaper car with more “options”.

Honda has had rock hard seats forever. It is my biggest complaint about them. Their leather seats are softer, but still not as comfortable as many other vehicles.

Sounds like a impulse buy to me. Also its a sport package. What did you expect, luxury ride? Lol! In the future, If you're hesitant on buying a new car, renting a car for a week is cheaper than locking into a 1 or 2 year lease from a dealership. Or buying it.
@n-power-automotive

Not impulse at all. I researched the car for months. The ride quality was great, it was the seats that were uncomfortable.

Before I owned both I would’ve said the same. I’ve owned many Hondas over the years, but the reality is the Elantra N has been so much of a better car than the Accord was. Honda isn’t as reliable as they used to be, and Hyundai isn’t the cheap unreliable cars they used to be. It’s possible I just got a lemon, but it’s changed how I feel about Honda nowadays.

Was not your best move from Accord to Elantra but at least it was not a KIA. Well, KIA manufactures the most unsafe vehicles of the 21st century and appearances are deceiving. I've would have gone with Mazda or Lexus or Acura. But it's not my money or preference, if you are happy and content nothing else matters. Good luck!

Only problem with my 2020 exl 2,0 auto. is a very harsh ride. Glass smooth roads oh. Otherwise every ,even slight, imperfection heard and felt throughout the vehicle. Very quick and great fuel mileage. Just used to old GM midsize performance cars. Car i is litterally hardon most joints

Yep, that was my experience, too. The Elantra actually has a ton more legroom, but the seats are tighter because of the bolsters, so it’s a trade off.

Nice video and well stated. But I have a 2018 Touring 2.0 , with all the bells and whistles,I bought new in March 2019 and I love it. Approaching 50000 miles and still on original tires.The battery was replaced during warranty and failed again, so that's a negative. Agree about the sound system, it could be much better. I did have some black out problems but after doing the updates I have had virtually zero problems. During covid I was offered more than I paid for the car but resisted selling or trading it it. I have the dark blue color that Honda did away with and also the 2.0T is gone for the next generation of Accord. I will probably keep it for a long time. Probably the best car I ever owned except for my 1991 Acura Legend. Over 235000 miles and only a brake master cylinder change, never should have sold it.
