I’ve heard horror stories about McLarens and as a result vowed I would never buy one. I spoke to owners of McLarens who told me they had never had any issues owning one. I bought a 570s 11 months ago and have done 11,000 miles in that time. I’ve had no problems or issues. I’ve owned several 911’s (including turbo) and Ferrari. The Mac is the best car I have ever owned - simply brilliant. The 570 is the best supercar for the money

Keep hearing the same things yet when I look at what the owners say they all say they haven't had problems or only a few simple ones. I wouldn't listen to most people online as I bet its a load of kids that can't even drive yet spreading misinformation. Sounds like you made the right choice!

@@cryptocretin I also owned Ferrari 355 just over 20 years ago. The car was a nightmare and typically broke down every 3 weeks. I had to join the RAC 3 times in a ten month period as you are only allowed so many recoveries. Other people I know have had very few reliability problems so one bad review is not necessarily a fair or true reflection of the vehicle in general.

It’s amazing the depreciation a lot of 6 figure cars experience. I went through a 2016 Boxster and a 2017 Cayman, both with modest options, and found that price level worth buying/leasing new because they didn’t depreciate all that much. Actually sold the lease on the Cayman for a $1,500 profit 6 months before it expired! Buying a 911 though, whole different story. My 991.2 was $110k MSRP. Bought it certified used for $77k with only 15k miles. A $33k discount for only 15k miles and still 3 full years of warranty remaining being certified. Unless you have endless funds, there are certain cars that you just don’t want to buy new. Great video. I want to feel sorry for you but I know there are still some really fun cars that are remaining in that garage😋

I appreciate you sharing your experience here. I daily drive a 2017 911 and often think I'd enjoy the 570S for its exotic appeal. But I really don't want any more attention than I already get with the Porsche. I also believe I have gone through intersection dips and over speed bumps, etc that I barely had clearance for but would have heard crunching underneath with something as specialized as a 570s, GT3, GT4, etc. Maybe when depreciation puts them around 100k, I can get 1 to drive only on special occasions while the boring old 991.2 gets the groceries.

Nice video Glen. I cross shopped the McLaren 570 when I was purchasing my Porsche TTS. Although I like the 570, I was concerned with a warranty issue and the problems they have. Obviously I ended up going with the turbo S. I was more confident in the robustness of the Porsche brand and particularly my car. I know you have a lot of experience with cars. My suggestion would be to buy a 2017 or newer 911. You can do anything with them and go anywhere. They are almost invisible And definitely daily drivable. As well as being extremely capable and fun. I am sure you know all of this.

Although it doesn’t sound as good, the R8 V8 is actually the buy vs the V10. It’s about 3x as rare. A Manual Coupe is an appreciating asset.

Richard Birkenwald the debate isn’t whether the V10 is faster. It is. As an investment it will provider a greater % return long term.

This may be a stupid question - but you do know you can turn off the proximity sensor by pressing the wing mirror button. The prox sensor comes on at low speeds and at traffic lights. I was disconcerting at first but it becomes reassuring after a while to know where people are. I thought is was a fair review - it didn’t seem the car for you but it was an experience. It all depends on your priorities. I knew depreciation would be hard, but I’m in for the driving experience as my number one priority. I’m going to drive my 600 into the ground. 77km and loving it.

I rented a 2019 McLaren 570S Spyder for 24 hours and had an incredible time. The only thing I didn't like were the seats and their lack of lumbar support. After 20 minutes on the highway, my back was killing me. I also rented a 2020 Porsche 911 4S Cabriolet. That was much more comfortable, not as fast, and virtually invisible. I prefer movie star attention I received while driving the 570S. One guy actually did think he saw me in a movie. Of course, those doors instantly raised the rarity factor.

I’m thinking daily “rock chip” sports car... but performance on par with your McLaren and hands down better reliability with exotic looks, and tens of thousands less than McLaren , that can be serviced anywhere and at a reasonable price. ...my guess would be a C8 could be a nice replacement. They pretty much look the same upfront ;).

"Entry level" exotics depreciate after the initial sale, then stabilize, then appreciate. I've helped several people get into cars they never thought they could afford. You bought the 570s too new. Sold too soon. If you bought it for 20k less, kept the warranty going for the full time and waited you would see.

100% - they initially drop a bit then years on people are like "oh this car is fantastic and misunderstood", then they go up...not all entry level exotics but quite a few of them.

I was considering buying a Mclaren but I chicken out due to horrible depreciation, some electronic gremlins, the cost of repairing in the dealer and expensive parts, the warranty costs - most of all the horrible CAM PHASERS that goes kaput in less than 6000 miles. The engine need to remove to install the cam phaser. There are four cam phasers, You have to make a decision whether replace just the bad one or 4 that will get bad in the future. It will cost a lot of money. Another one was, the new cam phaser you will use is the same inferior parts. So, I bought 2nd generation ACURA NSX - case closed.

You made the right choice. Not only does the Acura NSX look better than the 570s but it is virtually bulletproof as far as reliability is concerned.

Had to get rid of mine it turned into a gremlin.very poor quality always broke down never again.went with the c8 and couldnt be happier.no more being worried at every traffic light. For the amount of money the car should be reliable.

How do you feel about leasing as opposed to financing?

I traded in a few cars to buy the Mclaren. If I had to do it over again, I would lease a new one, this way you are covered by the warranty the entire ownership period and start with new tires and brakes, etc.

Ha ha good point. I sold in 2019, in 2020 the value dropped another 40k but yes everything is way up in value for 2022, much higher than 2019 but I don't keep cars that long. 4 years is too long for me.

Ya I’ve been looking into getting a 2017 570s, but it’s like everyone offloads those cars after the warranty basically runs out. So I wasn’t sure if it was worth investing in to just drain the bank on an extended warranty or just winging it lol
