It's refreshing to see a KZbinr who isn't afraid to admit they have weaknesses in a language. So many KZbinrs seem to want to pretend that they are fluent in ten or more languages, when the reality for all of us is that most of the languages we pick up are by no means perfect. I am English. I spent three years in Germany and Austria, so I speak German pretty well. I learned French for five years in school, and I speak it pretty poorly, but I understand it. I also understand Spanish, though I cannot really speak it yet, as I do not practice enough. In the future, after I improve my Spanish, I hope to learn Russian.

Sorry to say that but I am a little disappointed actually. (Because of the clickbait) Is not like you can speak 8 languages. You just speak Polish and English properly and you're also,just able to say basic learnt by heart sentences and random words in other languages or at least you tried to. Know a language or speak a language does mean you are free to communicate and you can be understood and understand easily. I speak Italian Polish and English; that means whenever you talk to me about whatever you want in one of these languages it comes naturally to me to make conversation. NOW: I can write and sing songs in Russian,i can read a newspaper in French and translate it,I can have a small talk in Spanish,I can count to 100 in German, i can swear in Chinese BUT *I DON'T SAY THAT I CAN SPEAK 8 LANGUAGES* (because as I said before I can communicate for real only in 3 of them) SO NEITHER SHOULD YOU. Just because of your credibility if you know what I mean. Beside that,you're nice and funny and also an inspiration to continue to learn and improve.

@@Livoirienyvoitrien The hypothesis of linguistic relativity, part of relativism, also known as the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis /səˌpɪər ˈhwɔːrf/, the Whorf hypothesis, or Whorfianism is a principle claiming that the structure of a language affects its speakers' world view or cognition, and thus people's perceptions are relative to their spoken language. The principle is often defined in one of two versions: the strong hypothesis, which was held by some of the early linguists before World War II,[1] and the weak hypothesis, mostly held by some of the modern linguists.[1] The strong version says that language determines thought and that linguistic categories limit and determine cognitive categories. The weak version says that linguistic categories and usage only influence thought and decisions. The principle had been accepted and then abandoned by linguists during the early 20th century following the changing perceptions of social acceptance for the other especially after World War II.[1] The origin of formulated arguments against the acceptance of linguistic relativity is attributed to Noam Chomsky.[1] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linguistic_relativity

I have no clue why many ppl would think it was a clickbait. As she already stated her proficiency level for each language, I don't see there's an issue of saying she knows a language as long as she's able to use that language for communication. After all, no one can utterly excel at a language/skill in the world. Besides, It's impossible for one to have 8 languages at native level. Even Chinese is my native language, there's still a huge room for improvement. Why don't we just encourage someone who embraces different culture and puts the effort into learning several languages?

I'm also Polish :D I think this language being our native makes us learn more about other foreign languages since ours is considered to be one of the most difficult. I'd also say English is my second one, and I'm still studying it at the university. The funniest thing about it is that I used to have a more "American" accent and now I have British since it's academic. My third (right now) I'd say is Italian because I'm currently studying it at the uni too. Unfortunately, we don't have many opportunities for practicing speaking but I can communicate on a quite good level. Especially when I'm in Italy and it's required from me somehow. The fourth one is French which I learned for almost 6 years and at some point, I knew it very well. Unfortunately, I don't practice it anymore so I forgot a lot and now I remember only the basics. Btw, I love your French, I wish I could speak like you

Russian is my first language, I learned English from school when I moved to Canada when I was six, and I started learning French in my Canadian school when I was 6, but I wasn't really good. In grade 7 I started taking lessons with a tutor from France and I watched a lot of movies, shows and listened to french music during summer and this year I went to a French school in Canada (but I am still continuing the lessons with my tutor since my french isn't perfect). I also started learning Spanish a month ago, I can speak very little, but I am trying. In the future, I really want to learn German and maybe another language. (I am 14)

Victoria it really matters on what kind of stuff u like to watch and on your level. one of the shows I watched in French (with French subtitles) was « Miraculous Ladybug » it’s a kids show that I used to watch in russian on Disney channel when I was younger but it’s actually pretty interesting. The language isn’t too hard and if u don’t understand something u can always just pause it and translate what they said. Also, I am a big Harry Potter fan and I’ve watched all the movies multiple times in English, and I watched them in French. You should really just watch whatever u like, like your favorite movie that u know well or something simple. always watch with subs and if u don’t understand it, pause and translate! hopefully I helped 💗

I see everyone is sharing their languages so i'll do the same My native language is Arabic, my second language is English, I took French in school as a second foreign language, i've always been fascinated by Spanish so I started learning it on my own, and finally I take German in uni because it's mandatory but it's still fun :)
@mariembouaziz74873 жыл бұрын
we're so similar! arabic is my first language and french was supposed to be my second cuz it's the second language in my country but then i moved to america so i never got the chance to learn it :( i've also been interested in german as well and i'm taking spanish in school rn!

Hey ! French native here, so obviously I can speak French, and English as well (with a really obvious French accent though, because I never practiced speaking), that I mostly acquired by watching KZbin videos for the last 12 years. I'm studied Spanish in highschool almost 10 years ago as a 2nd foreign language, so I still can understand bits or spanish. And currently studying Chinese on my own for 8 months now :P

Ok I’m Italian and I’m really surprised that you’ve never studied Italian and you speak like that, just because you study french and Spanish. I study English, French and Spanish but I would never be able to understand a language that isn’t that easy, just because it is similar to other languages I’m so impressed! Congrats! ❤️ By the way I’m still at second year of high school so I’m still studying, but I can understand and speak English and Spanish very well, I can understand french too but I’m not as good as in the other languages both with the talking and the understanding. I still can’t believe you can understand 8 languages, you are amazing
@bunitesanatural4 жыл бұрын
Actually I also understand Italian perfectly even thou I never studied Italian. The thing is I speak fluent french and Spanish (and 4 other languages) and to me personally Italian actually sounds like a mixture of spanish and french. Every time I travel to italy I am able to communicate with the locals there. :)
@nicholesilva82584 жыл бұрын
I never claim to speak a language if I don’t speak it fluently. Otherwise, I would say I at least speak 10 languages. You’re Spanish is somewhat good tho!!
@915232974 жыл бұрын
@Max Crane yes i just agree with you, I'm learning english and spanish, my native language is portuguese, but I think I'm able to communicate in english and spanish and i also think that we learn with the mistakes, nobody was born speaking of a perfect way and even in my native language there are some words that I don't know what's is the meaning, this it's totally normal and we always can communicate and learn with each other
@terka58454 жыл бұрын
I kinda agree with Nicole bcs in the video she says for example that she can't really speak czech but she knows some words - doesn't mean that she speaks that language yk. I can speak czech and english and i learn german but im not sayin' i can speak german. Its the same thing tbh. But i really think she's talented in languages and she's able to learn all of these some time.

I´m skiing instructor in Czechia and I teach a lot... A LOT of polish skiers and almost all kids I teach are like sponges for czech language. Everytime I speak with my colleagues while teaching polish kids, the kids are repeating some phrases and asking me what do those phrases mean. I love your content.

Thank you, Jan! Your comment brought a huge smile on my face, thank you for teaching your students how to ski and some bits of the Czech language! As you can see, kids won't forget it when they grow up 😊
