Back hurts from carrying the vocaloid community... I'm kidding, but you've contributed as much as anyone else. Your idea of balancing out memes and analysis is something I've been trying to find the words for years now. You truly deserve all of your subscribers, really - I'm really happy me and a lot of others found this channel, if only recently. The idea of a channel talking about vocaloid music as a whole has been a stray thought that me and probably a lot of your followers have had, and you brought that to life! Thanks for giving the community a voice and opening our eyes to things we may not have even known before we'd watched a video.

I've never had such a deep respect for Vocaloid before, i tend to just listen to covers from like Rachie and Will Stetson (As i don't know Japanese lol). But they seemed just as regular songs even with dark tones, and they hit me and i love them. However, your channel actually gives me so much more insight into these themes, and I am upset I have never got this invested into Vocaloid before. Thank you so much for making these and I can't wait for more :)

My journey into Vocaloid was mostly a solo experience as well, it was hard to find people who were enthused as I was about it even a decade ago, when it was at the height of its popularity. A lot of people have moved on from Vocaloid since then, but I continued to love the music that I grew up on, and I still follow the producers today. The music is so underrated, but it being a niche makes me feel an instant connection to this community too. Vocaloid wasn't a fad for us, we genuinely connected with it and saw the value behind the works these producers made. This is the channel people like us need, so thank you!

Vocaloid also introduced me to different genres of music, and different themes as well, vocaloid was so different from anything i heard before, and to think i despised it even before taking it a shot, but suddenly i was getting addicted to world is mine from a youtube poop intro video, and them i gave up and looked up for songs, found the sapporo show from 2011 i think, and i got addicted to two breaths walking, albino and hoshi no kakera, after that my life wasn't the same anymore vocaloid's songs themes, discussions made me grown and honestly, gave me inspiration, i always loved to write stories and each vocaloid song is a different story, in a different set, characters, feelings, emotions and a different end EMOTIONS SPECIALLY, i really get to the mindset of the character or the story, and there's nothing more important than understand the psichology of one character most stories i write today are somewhat heavely inspired in a vocaloid song, and now i tend to look to regular songs and give them a story too haha and they made me learn a lot about myself, my feelings and how to surpass those sad moments we all have in life, just like perfeccionist complex, it's such a great song to understand sorrow and get back up tbh it was frustrating when i showed other people (my friends/sometimes classmates when we talked about music in the lunch breaks) vocaloid songs and they would just say "it looks like something from a kids cartoon" and i wouldn't understand though i knew it doesn't mean it's necessarily bad.... most cartoons have good songs, but i still feel like they are.... diminishing it somehow, or when i showed anything japanese and my friends would just get "fuck, it's japanese..." and then suddenly change how they viewed the song and start to shame it, just because of the language but i forgive them, maybe i'm the one who is getting it wrong, or they just need a bit more time (and i always was scared to play vocaloid on the car, even though my family don't mind me not using an headset (specially because my sisters also like vocaloid, i showed it to them), i was always embarassed on how people on the street or nearby cars would think whenever we would be in a red light i would turn down the volume haha)

Hey dude, I just wanted to let you know that this channel means a lot to me. I run a Vocaloid club at my school, and I talk about Vocaloid like this to my club members- I’ve been putting my heart into telling people how much I love Vocaloid, how much I love everything this fandom stands for. Clicking on one of your videos by chance and hearing almost the very same words I said to my club members when Wowaka passed away brought me to tears. I felt like I’d finally found someone who understood. Before, it felt like nobody ever took this music seriously. I felt like an idiot for finding so much meaning in Vocaloid songs. Thank you for reminding me that I’m not alone! Thank you for reminding us all that it’s okay to love what no one else seems to love. When I first found Vocaloid, I wished for a friend to guide me through the music and the history. 2 years later, and you are the answer to that wish. Thank you, I’ll continue to support you with all of my heart ❤️ love, ZORAKUN

I've only recently discovered you channel but I love the history of stuff when it comes to Vocaloid. I don't see many people talk about just the songs or Producers and whatnot. When Super Eyepatch Wolf talked about Seraphim on the Ring (although briefly) in his Fall 2019 highlights I was like "I want more people to talk about these songs and their producers. I want to hear more people talk about this." I also would also love to see you talk about the mangas, memes, MMD, and other media that came from this and how they affected the perceptions of certain Vocaloids and how it changed over the years. Thank you for your videos! They're refreshing!

Hey. My native language is Russian, and I've been here, in the fan-base, for so many years, but I never even knew just how much I needed a place concentrated on serious side of the vocaloid music until I actually got it. All of the themes that you mentioned resurfaced here and there in the community, but never stayed long enough to make an impact. Both English and Russian communities (which is huge, mind you) lacked a place that was truly dedicated to the information that you gave. There was no sites, no blogs, no youtube channels, that could provide us with this part of the fandom. The part that requires you to dig even further then I thought you could go. Yet finally, someone dares to fixate all of that in one area and talk about it loud and clear. I'm-- my words are all over the place, but thank you so much for doing this.

Thank you for bringing these video essays into the vocaloid community. Especially how it's reviving my nostalgia for these older producers. I've long since stopped keeping track of my favourite producers since they moved into the professional music industry, and barely kept up with the new vocalo-Ps since the mid 2010s. You make me remember why I loved Kagerou Days and how the community would anxiously await every new MV wondering what would be added to the story; all those story series such as the Evillous chronicles that made vocaloid music so unique in that they told stories; and the intricate subjects written into the lyrics that a regular music industry would hesitate to publish in fear of a lack of audience for those who didn't have interest outside of popular love song lyrics. It is because of vocaloid that led me into the utaite and NND world, and now I also cover songs online: vocaloid has definitely been central to my interests, hobbies, and growth as a person. I never would have improved so much in my knowledge of artwork, video making, and audio mixing if not for my involvement with vocaloid and then the KZbin utaite community.

Bit late to the party, but I really am grateful for this channel. I started listening to Vocaloid 4 years ago, but I only listened to the most popular ones. Some of my friends listened to Vocaloid back then, but not as much as me. I really started to listen and look for Vocaloid 2 years ago, when Miku's 10th anniversary (the medley video) came out. Then, I wanted to talk with others about the stories and songs I found, but none of my friends listened to Vocaloid anymore, and if they do, they just like it cause it's from Osu. So when I found your channel a few days ago, I was really happy. I could finally see someone talk deep into the Vocaloid community and its producers, and talk about their different songs. Thank you for everything you've done and I hope you do more. P.S. May I give some suggestions? Can you possibly do Suzumu and the things he did with his songs? I'd also like to see Honeyworks and their Confession series, as well as Harumaki Gohan and how he basically did everything in his songs and videos.

I've never really been interested in vocaloid. I have heard of Hatsune Miku and have heard of some songs sung by vocaloid and I was not impressed. My friends have given me some song recommendations and I have watched them but it never really got me into vocaloid as I couldn't find anything that would compel me to dive in deeper and try to find what I liked in the vocaloid community. However, I was wrong to think that the little songs that I had heard was all to vocaloid as your channel helped broaden the horizon for me. I clicked on your video How Wowaka Changed Vocaloid Forever because I was bored and figured I had nothing to lose without even knowing who Wowaka even was. That video gave me new found respect for the history, producers, and community of Vocaloid. It also helped me want to search for even more vocaloid music and try to find some songs that I might like. It led me down a rabbit hole to watch all your videos and know more about Vocaloid. I'd say that this channel is the reason why I started to recently delve a bit deeper into Vocaloid and I truly appreciate the hard work you put out for your videos. I'm not sure if I commented something like this before or not but if I didn't this is probably the best video to comment this on. So, thank you. So I really, really have to thank you for making these videos on so many topics and just teaching me so much more about vocaloid. And also like what you said, It's really fun to just see other people just talk about things I like, and makes me feel like alone in liking those things. I first found Vocaloid two years ago from browsing through my recommended Aminos, I remember being interested as I had seen Miku around on the internet, the first song I listened to I wasn't sure but I thought it looked cool since it was an MMD, the next I started to appreciate the music, and by the third, I was all in. I hadn't enjoyed listening to any music before then but now even though I only listen to Vocaloid I can always find something to appreciate in other songs. I recently went onto Nico Nico for the first time and the scrolling comments of everyone commenting "MIKU MIKU NI SHITE AGERU" brought me to tears, but it always makes me sad and honestly angry whenever people just brush off and ignore it, even when I get someone to listen to a song, they aren't listening. Almost my whole family makes fun of it and how it isn't real music and I have gotten in trouble for listening to Vocaloid in the same room as my younger sister, especially after she picked up part of Muteki pop from me singing it. I found your videos last week and I enjoy them as I haven't been in the community for long and I'm not able to become a big part of it these videos have made me somehow love Vocaloid even more than before. I hope people start taking Vocaloid seriously and I think that your videos are going to be a big part of that happening. I started out loving VOCALOID as a "weeaboo" anime-loving fanboy who loved the colorful art and catchy music but it didn't take long for me to realize there was something deeper and different to VOCALOID than nearly anything else I had ever known about, and all these years down the line I realize it's true, and it's something I've always wanted to see someone talk about formally and publicly, and perhaps even do myself. For as much of a worldwide cultural phenomenon as VOCALOID is, it's so absolutely deserving of being taken seriously and seen through these lenses of legitimate study and I couldn't be happier to see that finally happening now, with your work. Thank you and 39 so much, Ubnub! :)

You are seriously appreciated my friend. Every one of your videos made me happy. Don't you worry, your essays are overflowing with appreciation and love for the music, the artists, the community, and from what I gather, us, your audience. I almost cried when you said "guess you finally outgrew vocaloid - But I never really did", just exactly my experience. And to not over -generalize, but from reading comments under your videos, I guess we western voca fans are usually in the same boat; Just as you mentioned, having friends that don't appreciate the music the way we would, even if they are anime/ Japanese Music fans. I personally have zero people I can talk to about vocaloid, and it really aches me, since it is always a sucker to not be able to express your feelings for your passion, and being unablte to share what makes you happy with others. And that is exactly where you hit, my friend. It is SOOOO good to hear someone "gushing" about how much they appreciate the thing that you yourself love so dearly, while actively discussing the topic and brining in new information, generally balancing comment, opinion, criticism and suggestion as well as you do. Idk, I just needed to spurt that out. It feels so good to finally talk about what has been a down-played part of you for so long, yet so central to your being. You really hit that spot for me so stop thanking me/ us and take the appreciation!!

I've always loved how diverse the Vocaloid community was, and especially how there are so many people behind our favorite songs and the way that Vocaloid functions as a creative/emotional outlet for a lot of people. Thank you for making videos about Vocaloid culture and the producers that have made history for forever!

Your channel helped me remember just how much I like vocaloid and its community - I had many similar experiences (the effect vocaloid has had on my life, supporting friends but none who were invested, feeling the impact of wowaka’s death, etc). However, I haven’t thought about what it means to me recently; I think I got used to dismissing my hobbies because there was nobody in my life to share them with. Unexpectedly, watching these videos suddenly made me want to cry. It felt so relatable, and personal. It was something I didn’t know I needed. Thank you.

thank you so much, ubnub. you made me realize and accept my passion for vocaloid, before that i was not taking vocaloid music seriously and when i've enjoyed something i only thought "i should not enjoy music like this, it is strange to do so, people will judge if they find this out". it is so needed for every community to have people like you, who discuss and speak about serious things, who change other's mind and lead them in a good way of accepting things and understanding them. please speak for all of us, speak loud. i love you dude and wish you luck for all things you will do in future one more time, thank you. you really inspire all of us

As someone from the vocaloid covering community here on youtube, a lot of your videos are amazing as resources, too. Having deep dives into artists and the songs themselves helps give a clearer vision on interpretation and the story! As someone who also really cares about the message and emotion of vocaloid songs, I find it extremely helpful. I really look forward to more content from you!

I think this thing about not "outgrowing vocaloid" is what strike us so much. Many of us left it behind because we thought that the community was dead, but we never stopped liking it and this channel feels like it is coming back. This is one of the few channels i subscribed the same day i found it, i usually wait a couple of days to see if i like the channel itself or just the one video.

I love how well you articulate your thoughts and emotions, I feel exactly the same where you mentioned that now you listen to alot more than vocaloid and it may seem we've gotten "over" vocaloid but in reality that isn't the case but rather we've come to appreciate it more and realized how much it shaped our lives.

Your Wowaka video was recommended a week ago, so I came and... stayed. It was a needed thing, because a year ago I was devastated and shocked and had no one to share my grief with. And your words hit me. And then I watched other videos and I'm more than thankful for all your hard work and analysis, because when I came in there was no info to turn and read, no wikias, no blogs, there were some translations but without knowing the language it seemed like a kinda niche community. My friends spread memes and shared videos, but there was no close attention to music and development of Vocaloid. There was no mocking, yet almost everyone was like "not a real music, how can you listen to it? They are not real people, who put effort". Even after 10+ years they still have this attitude despite so many changes, so much development and music to listen to. Eh, their loss. I'll continue to make amvs with Vocaloid music, because songs are great and have the words and emotions I want to convey ;3 So, I was writing this to show my gratitude toward your hard work, your dedication and how your videos are things that make a difference and educate. Thank you!

I only found your channel, by chance, but I stayed because I love your insights on Vocaloid. It feels great knowing that someone else out there loves Vocaloid for virtually almost the same reasons I do. The last time I engaged with other Vocaloid fans on this level, was with ofurotaimu (this online vocaloid and utaite community offering resources and information) and vocaloid tumblr 2011-2014/2015. I mostly interacted with vocaloid tumblr, and while we mostly operated like other tumblr fandom kids. We reblogged gifs and shared fan art; however, we also remembered and understood that there is a musician behind the miku avatar. And this is something I felt was relatively hard to find within the Vocaloid community. I know a couple of my friends who got into Vocaloid too, fangirled over len, listened to a couple of songs from miku, and rin then left like it was a phase. I did went through that short-lived phase, but want back via the nico nico utattemita community, and learned about the vocaloid producers, which brought a deeper appreciation for vocaloid. I think, in general, vocaloid producers have long been underappreciated, and in many cases, taken for granted in the vocaloid fandom. And it's sad, because it's through them that we can enjoy and listen to many of the classic songs. And arguably, they're the ones keeping the community alive and thriving. It dawned to me that for some of the songs that initially got me into vocaloid ("alice human sacrifice", "fear garden" and "dark wood circus", "tower of sunz" because I was a 12-year-old edgy lowkey goth), I never got the chance to look up the vocaloid producers. And I think it becomes a problem, because in a way, someone's art is slowly being dissociated with the artist. And as a creative, this is something I get worried about- that you never get the due appreciation for something you created. I guess I hope now that when a Vocaloid revival comes, more people will learn to give appreciation to the musicians behind the work. And it may take baby steps, but creators like you do a lot and make a lot of difference, so thank you so much. And congratulations on the 10k! You deserve it a lot. I look forward to what you have to offer! (especially underrated Vocaloid producers) P.S. I also miss ofurotaimu a lot and would gladly see more communities like that pop up again. It was a great place for me to learn about new vocaloid producers/utaite, get easy access to the Vocaloid rankings/utattemita rankings, and it was a crucial place for me in setting up my nico nico account (especially as someone whose knowledge of japanese was abysmal then)

I’ve been watching content on KZbin since 2007 and been a vocaloid fan since 2011. My taste for what I watch changes every now and then but for the past couple years I’ve been watching a lot of commentary channels. Now that I’m almost done with my 4 years at art school I’ve found I have so much more appreciation for art & music, I can think more critically, and can better articulate my thoughts on what I like about a project, song, artist, etc and I can talk about it as such. I’ve debated starting a channel like yours to just sit and passionately talk about vocaloid because that’s something I would LOVE to see on KZbin that I just haven’t until I found your channel. You have no idea how much I appreciate your channel and your mission for it. Thank you. Will I ever start a channel? Who knows lol. I can definitely say, though, that I’ve gotten a lot of inspiration from you especially in regards to music in general and how I think about it (Comparing DECO*27 to Kanye West? Your mind just..... so powerful). Much love. :)

Hey dude, I can't entirely put into words how much your channel means to me. I cried while watching this because I feel the same way. I've been into vocaloid for over 10 years, starting when I was in elementary school. Its literally been part of my whole life and it's my favorite thing ever. I have friends who enjoy it but no one's ever been as passionate as me so we can only talk about it so much. I've been thinking about making vocaloid video essays for years and people have encouraged me to go for it as well, but I also always had some excuse to not do it. Thank you so much for simply being you and having passion and taking action! I think I'm done with my excuses too Hachis one of my favorite producers too and I absolutely adore your video on him!! If you ever want another vocaloid friend feel free to talk to me!! (I hope that doesn't make you uncomfortable for me to say and if it does I'm sorry!)

Supereyepatchwolf probably has my favorite video essays, and I always wanted him to make a video about vocaloid, in his style. You've really done a great job scratching that itch and proving that there is a demand for good vocaloid discussion. It always felt so lonely being moved so heavily by a song and its history, but having noone to talk about it with, so knowing how many others feel that way is pretty validating.

i probably started listening to vocaloid back in 2013 and it was always frustrating having no one to share my passion for it with and my interest in the scene tapered off and was mostly reduced to occasionally listening to rollin girl every 6 months or so. your wowaka video was recommended to me a few months back and i ended up watching all your videos and it caused me to really gain a deep respect for vocaloid scene and has really revitalised my interest in the music. thank you for discussing vocaloid in such a genuine and passionate way, your contributions to the community are so valuable and i look forward to seeing your channel grow

my friends listen to vocaloid, but I am a music nerd so I've always loved going into details about the chord modulations and DAW softwares and japanese modes... I've never had anyone to bouce off these ideas with. I've tried looking for music channels like Soundfield that explore different music genres to see if they were willing to do an exploration on vocaloid, but to no avail, which is dissapointing but also expected. however, seeing your serious discussion about the history and analysis about vocaloid music just makes me extremely happy in general. I've been seeing your videos in my recommended for the past year but only really clicked into one last month because I felt skeptical about how the english community views vocaloid as serious music. your channel really didn't dissapoint. congratulations and props to you!!

I'm so happy there are people like you here that just want to talk about these things. I started listening to vocaloid as a mid-teen ~6 years ago thanks to the Kagerou Project and it's always been hard to find what other people think about vocaloid, let alone certain songs/artists. Whenever I try to bring it up with friends or even my brother the usual response is ""oh that high pitched weeby shit" and they won't even attempt to understand it. This led to me being ashamed of listening to it for a long time, but vocaloid is just as valid as any other music and it holds a lot of emotion for me ( and apparantly for a lot of you ). So thanks for just casually talking about it with us and another thanks for the great content! Hope the channel thrives!

DUDE IM CRYING AND SHOUTING THANK SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS! You basically said exactly what I thought, like why is such a vibrant music community that nurtured so many new Japanese artists somehow mocked or just not taken seriously by people. I just joined a music magazine of my college to start writing about Vocaloid as a cultural phenomenon and doing media analysis. And just at this moment, I saw your video, and also I'm a huge fan of wowaka and hitorie so I really really appreciate your analysis from my heart. I'm just so glad to see other people who want to think about Vocaloid in a serious way (as it deserves!) and I look forward to learning from your video! Keep up the good work man!

I just discovered your channel today and watching your videos has honestly been a blessing. I've been into vocaloid since my early preteen years and it made up so much of my youth. It was thrilling bc the songs made me feel like I connected to someone/something. But at the same time, it was very lonely. Throughout highschool, it was difficult to share that passion I had with vocaloid amongst others, making me feel more isolated. 6 years have passed since my introduction to the world of vocaloid and my love for it still resides within me. However, discovering your channel sparked that feeling I once had as young kid. That feeling of connection. Knowing that I'm not alone in appreciating the talent of vocaloid songs/producers. Back then, the community felt so small and felt as though it slowly withered away. So knowing there's still people out there who share the same sentiments and love for this category of music is heart touching ❤ All I can say is, thank you. Thank you for these videos you've made this far and I look forward to more in the future~

I've been yearning for someone to take Vocaloid on another level, to do deep discussions regarding the scene -- what's happening in it, the controversies that surround it, the drama the spews because someone decided to record a Vocaloid VB to UTAU, all that stuff -- and not just the songs their respective covers, and as someone who's been listening to Vocaloid for a decade, I've been on the same train as you too! In fact I still do, actually. Not a lot of people in my life (IRL) know Vocaloid, and considering the type of music they listen to, I'm pretty sure they won't bother investing their time on it. After a few months of wowaka's passing, your video about him popped up in my recommends. Wowaka being the second producer that I've known and loved, I clicked on it without hesitation and watched all the way through. I think I remember crying halfway through it. Afterwards, I went back to the home screen and continued my endless scrolling to millions of other videos. And then your video about DECO*27 being the Kanye West of our scene showed up in my recommends a year later (approximately a few days ago present time). That's the moment when I went to your channel to find more of your content because I really found that video interesting and wanted to watch more of it. Man, if only you could see the smile on my face when I saw your videos. *Finally,* goshdarn finally, I've found someone who's invested and dedicated to talking about Vocaloid in a deeper perspective as me. With that said, congrats on 10k! Thank you for the quality content you're giving us, and I'm looking forward to more of them! Of course, don't push yourself to the edge tho. We don't want you to feel like you *NEED* to make more videos because we *WANT* to. Let your thoughts flow, let multiple tabs open for research, and we'll be right there when you finally upload the video itself. So again, congrats on hitting 10k subs!!! I'll be waiting for your next video. :D

Now that you've pointed it out, I'm actually surprised that in all it's years of existence the Vocaloid never got the same treatment as other music scenes. Vocaloid is the most diverse genre I've ever seen yet people don't talk about it in an analytical perspective. Not even the western indie scene is this creative. I never really saw Vocaloid to be that ridiculous. It's always been a form of escape for me and helped me cope through high school. I've been a fan for years and you've made me appreciate Vocaloid like I've never before. I'll admit I never really thought much about these producers until you made videos about them, especially n-buna and Hachi. And I think people *should* talk about these things more. People shouldn't be afraid to talk about these things, like how Vocaloid was never afraid to talk about anything. I can't wait to see more of your content and I hope your channel gets more attention. So thank you for everything!
