Why I Still Love My Little Giant Incubator Even After The Worst Hatch I Have Ever Had

I still use a 10 year old Little Giant incubator and I just had the worst hatch rate I have ever had. But I still love it and am sticking with it. With all the choices in incubators out there now, it can be hard to pick one. In this video I discuss why you might want to consider a Little Giant incubator if you are in the market.

Little Giant has the best customer service. Unfortunately can't say the same about their incubators. Mine is about 3 years old, always temperature fluctuations, hot and cold spots in the incubator even though fan running. Bought a Borotto on a super sale and I love it. No temperature fluctuations, fan great, fill water channels from outside. Automatic egg turner easy to put in (holds many sizes of egg with no adjustments needed) and take out. Easiest lock down I have ever done. Eggs due to hatch Thursday.

Interesting. I don't have too many problems with hot and cold spots. I may have to try out a Borotto though, I have heard good things about them.

I just ordered a Brinsea. I had 23 eggs in my LG 11300 and yesterday it decided to spike up to 107.1 degrees! The U word comes to mind...unacceptable! It also leaked water when i filled it, not overfilled it, just in the troughs.

If you ever brood chicks soon, could you do a comparison between a heat bulb and a ceramic heat emitter?
@Slightlyrednecked

I may do that. i don't currently have any ceramic heat emitters but I might get one and test it out.

I have the same issues with mine. I also see the temp will heat the box a good 1.5 degrees hotter then what is set. The built is hygrometer is accurate too but I did find it has hot and cold spots all over the inside of the forced air unit. My nurture right 360 has 0 issues and is much more precise.

Can you make a video on how often you change water or what you do to keep algae from growing in the water. That is my main concern as a new comer to raising quail.

I don't have any issues with algae growing in my incubator. I don't change the water out, it just evaporates and then I add more when it does.

Sorry I meant in the watering system in the outdoor quail hutch. I have a 5 gallon bucket that gravity feeds to the water cups. I have to clean out the bucket every 2 weeks because the water starts to turn a little green.

Hello chris I want to start raising quails and I am able to buy adults from a farm close to me and I have a decent out door set up with water and feeders ready but one problem is the weather is really hot in my country it reaches 30 degrees celsius (86 Fahrenheit) so regarding temperature what tips you have for me is it okay if I keep my birds in the shade all the time and how many adult birds should I get to start I just want to raise them for eggs and maybe meat and thanks in advance I love your channel.
@Slightlyrednecked
@Slightlyrednecked Жыл бұрын
Our summers get much hotter than that. As long as you keep them in the shade and out of direct sunlight, they will do just fine. As far as how many to start with, that is hard for me to answer. It depends on how many eggs you want. I would think about 15 birds would be a good starting point. You can easily ramp up from there if you decide you want more. I hope that helps.

I had 2 of the little giants. Both had same temperature fluctuations. They sent me new parts for free. One unit the fan blades started breaking off. They are both sitting on the shelf. I will never use them again. And probably wont sell them. I wouldn’t do that to another person. GQF cabinet or 1588 styrofoam is probably the best for the money of any . I have couple Brinsea both are outstanding.

@@Slightlyrednecked the 1588 Gqf styrofoam I believe is the the best bang for the buck $180 shows temp and humidity and you can calibrate them. Just need a turner. The temp on mine was spot on the humidity was a little off.

My quails form in the eggs but they never hatch I have the temp right take them out on the right day and they turn twice a day and the humidity is good what could be wrong
@Slightlyrednecked
@Slightlyrednecked Жыл бұрын
my first suggestion would be to double check the temperature with a separate thermometer. Incubators are almost always off just a bit on their temperature readings. Make sure to use two separate thermometers and make sure that they are calibrated and accurate first. I hope that helps.

Hey Chris my female quail are just about Ten months old. Will I still be able to get a male for them to get fertile eggs and raise more from them? And if I can what age male should I get for them?
@Slightlyrednecked
@Slightlyrednecked Жыл бұрын
Yes, you could easily add a male to them to get fertile eggs. The age of the male doesn't really matter much. With that being said, it may be difficult to get them to accept a fully mature bird (male or female) so if you can, you might want to get a young one (or two or three in case something happens to the one) at about 3 to 4 weeks old maximum. You have a much better chance of them not being aggressive and attacking him.

@mjshaheed
@mjshaheed Жыл бұрын
How much temperature drop do you get?
@Slightlyrednecked
@Slightlyrednecked Жыл бұрын
It could be that you just need to give it a little time. If it has been running for over 24 hours then you might have an issue. Make sure it is in a fairly temperature stable environment. Not sitting in front of an open window or above an air conditioner vent for example. If you are still having issues and it is dropping more than 3 or 4 degrees when it drops, you might want to give the company a call and see what they can tell you.

their incubator is a pure crap product! It has a heating element with no thermostat, so you have to adjust by hand with a tiny peg of a knob. the barest touch of that knob can cook or crash temperature of your egg incubation.. It disgusts me that they continue to sell this crap product rather than improve it. it's lazy and they don't care about the outcome of your hatch! i wonder how many eggs are aborted because of the Little giant's poor quality.
