Why I STILL LOVE the PS Portal 4 Months later

welcome back to the Channel. In this Video i take a 4 months look back at the PS portal to see if i still like it. Now that the honey moon stage is over, what do I really think about the PS Portal. Yeah sadly that is a major weakness, which I mentioned closer to the end of the video, thats one of the main reason why i said my love of the portal is complicated cause i want it to do more but with the price it’s hard to complain strongly. Thanks supporting the channel.

⁠@@pumpkinduke28great question. This has more to do with the quality of the internet connectivity available. For me its useless to use outside of my house because where i live internet connectivity is terrible. So there’s no to no point in taking it to say (Starbucks) but many people have reported the device working even if they are miles away from home.

It's not fair to compare PS Portal to Steam Deck. The same you say the price tag will go up when you put the headset in the field, you must consider that steam deck is a stand alone device, while PS Portal is dependent on your console.

Yeah you are correct, thats why i didn’t compare them. I was just making an example of the PS portal if i had more features. Thats why my love of the PS portal is “complicated” cause i cant fairly compare it to anything else. And its the reason why i cant hate the PS portal cause its not like anything else in that particular space.

Haha you caught my error. Im American living in Canada so i was trying to do the exchange rate in my head while thinking of Canadian price thats why i said $150 and in the next sentence said $200. It was just a recording opps

I used my portal for unicorn overlords. I also got the game on the switch but it looked way better on the portal. The color was more sharp

ok but where do you use the portal and how often do you find yourself using it and for what situations do you prefer using it? I want to know your experience a little more because all I got out of this 5min video was "Yeah, I like it." 🤷 Personally? I don't know if I care for this device. Ya, I want it cause it looks really neat and I love switching handheld with my switch but when and where would I even use it? It only connects through wifi, right? So to me it sounds like I'd only use it at home and if that's the case, why spend $200 on a smaller screen? I already got a custom controller with extra comfort and a 4k 60'inch TV and public wifi sounds like a horrid idea.

Yeah i totally see your point. The weird thing about the Portal is that by all accounts people should hate it. Its so limited in scope (wifi only, cant use it outside of the house, needs to be connected to a PS5 thats turned on) but ones you actually get it, you see its magical. It just works perfectly. Zero drop frames, no connection lost. Its very convenient, i use my on the couch when i dont feel like sitting on a gaming desk (i don’t gaming on a TV). The screen is small but Doesn’t affect gameplay at all. The design is comfortable as hell. Its easily the most comfortable handheld out right now. So why did i not mention all of this in the video. Im a very small channel and the longer my videos are the less people will watch it so i have to choose an angle that will interest people and make the video short enough for people to not be intimidated. As the channel gets bigger i will start doing longer more detailed videos. For now i just want people to enjoy and good, well edited fun content about gaming. I will say the portal is not for everyone though. But for many people, it just fits perfectly, thats why its selling really well. But as i mentioned in the video, i hope for a Ps Vita style handheld from Sony.

@@YTD33 It sounds like our differences is you grew up with Vita, I did not and grew up more with TV n' consoles while I also have a TV and you either do not or simply don't game on it. So possibly nostalgia, preference, and access sounds like important factors taking place. I really want to like and get the portal but I just simply don't see myself getting it. I guess you could say I'm looking for excuses but just not finding any. Personally, I think you should of avoided the topic with Vita and Switch cause I bet most of your viewers will already know about that and simply want to hear your view, experience, and your likes n' dislikes. Especially since there's plenty of other videos n websites that talk about that. I'm looking for more original topics like hearing your experience as I mentioned. As a viewer(or at least me personally), I've already heard and read about all that and looking for new topics on the subject. So maybe that's something to think about for your next future videos?

@@weirdestbudday5353 no i never owned the Vita or the PSP. I grow up straight console and TV. The difference now is i create content so i spend most of my time on a gaming chair in front of a monitor that i play pC games and my PS5 on, so yes that is why the PS Portal is great for me because its the perfect accessory for when i want to take a break and game on a coach. Since my channel is focused primarily on research (gaming products and games). Most of my gaming is done in a more serious stance, the Portal is the relaxed option (hope this makes sense). The aim of the channel is reviews of gaming gear (plus looking back at past gaming gear) but as a small channel i have to cover hot topics just to bring people in, plus i work full time and im married so i can only do product reviews when i can afford to by a new product. Also the reason why i really like the portal because at $200 it gives me a relaxed option for gaming. The hope is to start getting gaming products to review on the regular but to do that i have to grow the channel to get noticed. The PS portal is easy to review though because it is such a simple product that does only “1” thing but it does it perfectly. Still looking for contact from gaming company to start reviewing their products but till then i just have to create content anywhere i can find it. I really liked your advice. Hope you’ll stick around, i like people who give detail inputs.

Literally the only downfall is you need WiFi but every place these days has WiFi and if not, you can use your phones hotspot. So it’s really a small window of you not getting internet connection for it. And you don’t need headphones, they are nice but you don’t need them so overall it really is only $200 which is cheap. the ability to move around freely in your house while being able to play your ps5 is truly amazing, you don’t have to be planted on your couch or gaming chair in front of a big tv/monitor. I truly think their next step would be to make games for it where even if you buy it for the next version which would probably be a vita like device, you’ll still be able to play it on your ps5 and vice versa.

well if you're single maybe you don't need headphones, but if your wife is reading, the kids are monopolising the TV in the living room, and you're gaming there too because that's where your router is and your PS portal struggles a bit elsewhere, then you'll reconsider 😂 But no need to purchase expensive and mediocre "playstation" headphones, when there are better and cheaper wired headphones on the market. @@YTD33

I low key miss the old games: Fight Night Series, UFC Undisputed 2009-2010 & 3, The Top Spin Games etc, Halo, Forza LOL. I was just in that nostalgic type of mood, Plus the portal wasn't doing it for me, The PS5' ain't doing it for me in general lol.

Awesome info thanks. My reference of Nintendo is regarding. Nintendo overall pushing of different gaming tech. The point is was making is that the Nintendo Wii push sony and xbox to many different motion related products for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 and suggesting that Nintendo has done it again with the switch influencing the market towards handheld gaming devices coming back into vogue.
