Veganism destroyed my gut flora to a point where I avoid a lot of social venues, traveling and even going to work for longer than 4 hours. Also, despite my veganism, I developed Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Yes, I'm bashing vehanism. But did I used to BELIEVE in veganism. I BELIEVED it was the right diet, I believed that people who weren't vegans were misguided souls. So, kids, if you don't want to have to fart 200 times a day (this is no exaggeration) and have to crap up to 15 times a day, stay away from veganism. It ruined me.

I am not vegan, i'm a meat eater. Maybe you are taking medicines like antibiotics or eating unhealthy foods like some nuts or common allergy foods, and even some fruits with high sugar content. I suspect you took medicines and chemicals. I know this because i experience it myself i have allergies and i cannot go out much often. My social life now is zero and i am a meat eater. So i don't believe it's the vegan diet. Being Vegan doesn't mean automatically healthy.

They can't because they think their diet is an IDENTITY. The fact that you call them "vegans" illustrates this problem. People are post religion but are still very well-trained in the religious system of thought. Judgement and holier than thou attitudes are deeply ingrained thought and emotional patterns. Not eating meat has been turned into a judgement system. Very sad but such is the state of things.....

Hi there, I would like to begin by stating that i am in favour of 'free will', i must state that cause does always produce an effect. Bypassing all processed, refined and factory meat alternative products that people go for and are not as nourishing, a well-planned, organic, unrefined and untempered with raw vegan diet (so as not to denature or destroy life-forces and enzymatic activities beneficial to the system) is the best diet to nourish the complex machinery that we call the human body as it maximizes nutrient intake and puts mankind in the primary or direct position to be benefited thereby as opposed to a secondary position, animal flesh eating. Even if it means little changes here and there, i would encourage one to take that approach as animal protein is nearly the cause of many diseases (e.g mad cow disease and tuberculosis) which are on the rise. I do not even see the need to use pharmaceutical drugs e.g Vitamin D (exception of it being made and stored for future use by the body when exposed to the sun) is obtainable by consuming organic chestnut mushrooms and sun-dried mushrooms; iron from organic beets; calcium from organic broccoli; potassium and magnesium from organic bananas etc. Furthermore, mankind has canines that cannot bite through raw flesh, thus one has to cook it, proving that it is contrary to the way things ought to go. Whilst less nutrients, minerals and diseases are passed onto a meat eater in a secondary position, cooking methods make it even worse as they are known to destroy life-forces and enzymatic activities, and i believe it is next to hopeless for meat eaters to truly be well nourished, especially in our day and age wherein animal diets are also impoverished. Consider the Book Of Nature too that shades light on this matter too e.g organic walnuts and pecans (look like the brain and targets it, for instance, contains Omega 3 Fatty Acids needful for brain health maintenance); kidney beans (looks like kidneys and targets them); carrots (when cut, looks like eyes and targets them); tomatoes (looks like cardiac muscles and targets them); artichoke (looks like hips and targets them); celery stalks (looks like bones and targets it); and so on and so forth. Best wishes 💙💙💙

sheena millien Yes legumes is what I was eating and they contain lectins and phytic acid which hurts the gut. And seeds aren't a good idea if you have IBS or leaky gut as they iritate the bowels. So like is aid in the video, vegan lifestyle is good for some people, but not all. I am vegetarian now, so I have more options which helped me heal my gut, kill candida, fix my thyroid and clear my psoriasis :) I exercise everyday 😁 and drink look ads if water and herbal teas. It really depends on the person. Like I said, being vegan is a GREAT option for some people... but not everyone.

Every time I hear someone talking about: I decided to eat clean, or, Listen to your body, or, We're all different, or, I went vegan for my health, I know he or she has not studied nutrition. I study paleoanthropology, the study of human origins. The great value here is paleoanthropology shows us the foods our ancestors evolved to eat. With the caveat that their diets are a starting point, as the world we live in is much more complicated than ice age Europe. Our ancestors evolved from one of the many species of gracile (slim) australopithecines 2.6 million years ago. They went from eating meat occasionally, to eating much more fat and meat. As a result, they grew taller, they used and made simple stone tools, and their brain size increased by a third! Then 1.7 million years ago, a new ancestor, Homo Erectus, tamed fire and they started cooking meat! They grew taller, they became distance runners, and their brain size increased by a whopping 42 percent! The largest increase in our history. There is an excellent book about this, Cathing Fire: How Cooking Made Us Human, by Professor Richard Wrangham. And there is a BBC documentary: Did Cooking Make Us Human? We only began eating grains around 10,000 years ago, and we're not well adapted to eating grains. There's not much nutrition in grains either. When people began eating grains, their average height dropped by 6 inches, plus they had lots of bone spurs and arthritis, from the repetitive, grinding work of preparing grains. Plus their average brain size shrank! For Caucasians, compared to our stone age ancestors in Europe 20,000 years ago, the average brain size is now 150 cubic centimeters SMALLER. John Hawkes has a video on You Tube about shrinking brain sizes. The diet we evolved to eat is a high fat, moderate protein, low carbohydrate diet. We need fats that are 20 and 22 carbon atoms long. The best you can get from plants are fats that are only 18 carbon atoms long. We can convert fats that are 18 carbon atoms long, but we are rubbish at it. Gorillas have a fermentation chamber kind of extra stomach, which converts the fats in the leaves they eat. It looks like gorillas are eating a high carbohydrate diet, with lots of leaves. But it's really a high fat diet. It's the same with the ruminants, like cows and antelopes. They eat plants, but their digestive systems converts the fats to longer chain fats. We can not get Vitamin A from plants. We can get beta carotene from plants, but it's tough to get enough to make sufficient Vitamin A, and some people are just bad at making the conversion. We can't get enough Vitamin B-12 from plants, and B-12 is essential for your nervous system. The book Catching Fire mentions a study of raw food vegans done in Germany by Professor Geisser. He discovered that half the women could not have babies, because they got so little nutrition from their raw, all plants diet. So much for the idea that we're supposed to be a vegetarian species. So eats lots of high fat meat! Grass fed beef is excellent! I always get a happy mood boost when I eat grass fed beef! Plus the cows are treated well. The cows from conventional factory farms are treated miserably. They live in small pens. They don't see the sunlight. They're shot up with hormones and anti-biotics. Eating fat does not make you fat. Gaining and losing fat is governed by hormones, which are chemical messengers. Eating sugar and grains makes your insulin spike, and insulin converts the extra sugar into body fat, and stores it away in your fat cells. Fat in your food does not spike insulin. Your digestive system does not store fat in your diet as body fat, contrary to what you have often heard. I go to the local farmers market and the health food stores. With the farmers market, I can actually chat with the people who grow the food! Plus I'm helping to support good people. Happy Trails!

I went vegetarian for a few months and almost died. I wanted to do it for health and ethical reasons. However within months my hair started falling out in clumps. My menstrual cycles became 15 days long, my nails became soft and bendable. I started having heart palpitations, extreme tiredness and dizzy spells. I went to the doctor and was told I had severe anemia. Still I stuck to my diet by eating more green vegetables, taking iron pills and iron enriched foods. However I couldn't get levels up. Finally I found out I had a genetic condition that causes my iron to naturally run low. My doctor advised me to come off the diet. I could not get enough iron from my it. Even eating meat, I still struggle with my iron levels. They are supposed to be at 11, I'm a 8, but when I was vegetarian I slipped to a 6. I shared all of this to say that you have to do what is right for your body. You should not ignore what it is saying to you. I loved being on my old diet. I liked the idea of causing no harm, loved the fact I felt calm and in line with the universe and I was eating more veggies and fruits. However my body's needs don't fit in to that way of eating. Again you must always listen to your body and not ignore its warning signs. Needs change...

Just stopped being vegan after 4 years today! Different diets are good for different people. My biggest problem is the lack of healthy fats in a vegan diet, it's all carbs, carbs carbs! So overall I've gained about 2 stone in that 4 years and struggled to get rid of it unless I starve myself and eat just green vegetables. Which just isn't viable, we're omnivorous for a reason. Vegans eat algae for omega 3s, that's not natural, along with the poor absorption amongst other nutrients. It's too difficult to do a high protein, high fat, low carb diet on vegan food. Due to all the carbs I ended up getting fatty liver and fatty pancreas. This is becoming increasingly common among Western vegans. But with ethical vegans you can't reason that because they view animal lives as equal to humans so regardless of facts they'll struggle to accept that.

Suddenly vegan : oh, you mean the "study" that manipulated the data to remove any contradictory facts from the study? You know, like Chinese regions that did eat meat and lived as long as the plant based ones? Why is it vegans are promoting disproven falsified studies as their "evidence"? Oh yeah, because they can't use personal experiences to prove how healthy veganism is (because many of them are living proof veganism is bad for our bodies).

Za Igre - Most of those "meat eaters" are fast food junkies, not low carb dieters. They look older because of the damage to their skin from lack of saturated fats and cholesterol (many meat eaters are still eating lean cuts and low fat foods). Sugar will make you look old. Unless you know thousands of people personally, your claim is based on very pathetic logic.

Za Igre - That is the problem. Doctors know jackshit about nutrition. Doctors also tell people that counting calories and exercising more will help them lose fat and it doesn't for very long because they promote eating lots of grains and carbohydrates, which cause people to get hungrier. Heart attacks come from inflammation of the arteries. Just like arthritis is from inflammation of the skeletal system. Both are caused by a high sugar diet. Blaming fat and cholesterol for heart attacks is like blaming a mechanic for damaging a person's car even though they are there to fix it.

Each person needs to find a diet that makes them emotionally happy and physically well. While some people might thrive on a vegan diet others may be unwell. So many factors involved like your dna make up and your ancestry. No need for any vegan or meat eater hate. Its just another excuse for people to turn against one another.

Sometimes I want a salad with a little chicken. I've found ways I like uncommon vegetable that people generally don't like. Those include brussel sprouts and asparagus as 2 of my favorites. Steak and red meat is one of my favorites but I don't have it that often.

I think if someone decides to go vegan, they should ease into the diet slowly. Legumes and all the extra fiber can be difficult to digest. And vegan substitutes are processed. So that may also be causing digestive issues. Cooking veggies make them more digestible than eating raw.

If veganism was natural, it would never be "hard" to do for humans. Millions of hunters get their meat from hunting and rarely buy meat from a grocery store or factory farms anyway. Hunters are the first people to want to protect the environment. There is no evidence "animal agriculture" destroys the environment, but there is a shit load of clear facts that grain and monocrop agriculture does as well as the destruction of entire animal habitats. The horrors of the demand for plant based foods is at least equal to if not more horrible than what you claim.

So grains or processed grains are bad for health out of moderation whether youre vegan or not. Legumes are a hybrid(I think garbonzo beans are the only natural 'bean'), as are a lot of "vegetables" so if youre "plant-based", you have to work at learning what a balanced diet looks like before knowing it doesnt work... its like learning an instrument without lessons, and convincing yourself you cant play based on how you sound- ignoring the ability to grow and progress through time. I agree that everyones body is different but have you seen "The magic Pill" On netflix? If you still eat meat, you should avoid processed meat sold in most stores because you may feel good now, but they still will lead to health problems in the future as they always do. The sad truth is most food is modified in this country whether meat or plant-based, so it takes time. Our super markets are NOT making the same food they sold 50 years ago, and wheat has been hybridized time and time again... thats why gluten intolerance is on the rise, just like "lactose-intolerance"... thats not good for any diet no matter what you believe you should eat.

I also was vegan many years. I love the concept, but after two years it just didn’t seem as energizing. I was then vegetarian mostly but I did eat some chicken or fish a few days a week but not every meal. I mentally felt better. When I was vegan I always wondered if I was getting everything I needed. I don’t feel that eating vegan is necessary for ultimate health. No major population in the history of the world are vegan life long. I guess there are big populations that eat vegetarian including dairy, but not vegan. Anyway, I like eating vegan about 50% of the time. I agree, I think it depends on people’s bodies. I use to believe vegan was perfect for everyone, but I’ve changed my stance on that.

"For many people, meat actually has an alkaline effect on blood pH! In order to understand this, you must realize that each person is biochemically unique. Food and nutrients will behave very differently in people, because biochemistry is individual. Certain individuals have a metabolism that is designed to assimilate protein and fat more efficiently than plant foods. Other people have a metabolism that is designed to utilize plant foods more efficiently, while having less of a need for protein and fat. These facts of metabolic individuality are fundamental to the understanding of how nutrients will behave in your body." The acid-alkaline theory is also considered a myth.

I follow a whole foods plant based diet. From what I understand of the vegan culture I can say that veganism is not the same as dieting; it is not a dietery fad. The vegan culture doesn't seek to dictate how much of what to eat. If it's a nutrition plan you want you can costum design a vegan diet around your own needs like you would in any other eating lifestyle. And if you have health problems then there is a greater need for targeted approach to holistic nutrition. Switching lifestyles can be mentally tricky too because all of a sudden we become aware of what we are eating and when something is coined "healthy" we go all out on it when in reality we need to keep our meals colorful and diverse. So if u just have grains dominating your diet that would backfire even if you weren't vegan. Within a vegan diet I tried many diet plans and some of them really back fired but I kept looking till I found my fix. I did the same thing when I was a vegetarian. My nutritionist is absolutely amazing!

I see that a lot of ppl expect that on the "vegan" diet ppl are suppose to feel amazing all the time and no one goes through periods of ups and downs, as if ppl that eat meat never have ups and downs. Of course they do. there is no perfect diet since we live in an imperfect environment. What we need to ask ourselves is what is this food going to leave behind in the body? I think the plants leave less toxics behind and it is a cleaner source of calories for the body. Which foods your body will do better on? well that's up to every individual to find out. Everyone says their energy comes back when they change their food choices, it's usually a common thing in any switch.We all need to stop making this so complicating. Use common sense, eat a diet that is clean and get all your nutrients, and don't expect your going to feel amazing all the time, if you feel crappy, it could be something you caught from someone, or the environment, anything, your gut flora, parasites, anything, but ppl right away blame their diet, well if you ate something that doesn't agree, don't eat that food anymore, eat something else that your body thrives on, listen to your body. Eat clean and get all your nutrients.

That being said my hormones are finally stable after years of ill health, I’m sleeping better too. But really is helping me is cutting out alcohol and keeping my sugar intake low. Healthy Life Happy Life.... Gelatin helps my (vegan damaged) gut too 👍. I have a problem with grains, legumes, and nuts. It wasn't too bad when I first went vegan, but the longer I stuck it out, the worse it got. Not great with most dairy either, though raw goat milk is currently working well. I'm finding the high ratio of glutamic acid in goat milk very calming (it has 2x as much per gram of protein compared to lentils and so much less gut irritating fibre). The calcium is also needed for my teeth which deteriorated as a vegan. I just can't digest enough green leafy veg to get sufficient calcium from them anymore. The oxalates in most of them seem to have become my enemy. I never even had to think about them before being vegan for 4yr. That diet made my food intolerances multiply like crazy. Slowly wound up on more and more supplements. Yet sicker than ever. Local health food shop owner confessed to me after I left veganism that vegans generally buy the most supplements per person, and they think they're stupid or crazy, but love the profits they generate. A year after leaving veganism, I've been able to drop GABA, calcium, betaine, enzymes, DMSO, b complex, iron, and use a lot less zinc. The local supplements shop owner is not happy. But my gut and brain work a lot better. So I am 😊.

At midday I eat a big dark bread filled the breadslices with butter and meatslices and cheese and jam all togheter on top of it. In just 20 minutes. Every freaking 5 working days!!! After work I regulary stopped at the backery! Buying at least 5 things full of sugar, eggs, milk, fat and oh yeah some flour in it to. LOL Later we replaced the meat with fatty cheeses. The last 3 yrs as being a meatlover we both where fat but weak to. Our winterholiday? 2 weeks in bed. 3 yrs at row getting a dangerous flue. I even passed away now and then. That was my waking up call! I was scared. So we changed to veggie but still we grow fatter than never B4 and dangerous unhealthy to! I'm so glad I changes to be a vegan. We never, never goes back. Never being sick anymore. We learn every day, we see new products every day, we met new ppl, new places! We are happier, smarter and more lucky than B4 our dark ages! A Pure Carb diet=Too much sugar in the body! It’s very simple! Very bad! The human body needs meat/fat. We evolved that way. My chronic psoriasis healed completely in 3 months after introducing fats, meats, and fish into my diet; as well as reducing fruit intake to 1 serving a day. I also started to supplement Vitamin D! I was born vitamin D deficient. It took me four years of trial, and error as a vegan to figure this out. I think this combo will work for most people: 20% fruit, 30% vegetable, 50% fat/meats intake per day. Replace sugar with stevia. Grains, and nightshades are not needed! Avoid junk food obviously. Nuts are ok. Organic Coffee, or Matcha green tea is fine in the morning. Supplement organic Vitamin D3, and Magnesium as most people are deficient of these two essentials. This is a great recipe for everyone in general. Try to eat organic as much as possible, as your individual budget allows. I love you’re videos Marla, They’ve been very informative. Thank you. Cheers😘😃

I believe you are explaining the plant-based diet. Veganism doesn't just refer to diet, but the use of any animal products of any kind. Plant-based is for health, and it does end up helping the environment and animals, but lacks the conviction portion of the vegan lifestyle. Not entirely sure what your full diet was, but it sounds like you were missing something that still could have been supplied in a plant-based diet. I promise there is more out there than nightshades and gluten! Gotta do fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, moderate beans, and keep up with lots of greens. I eat salads constantly. We are not used to how a plant-based diet needs to be balanced because we are not a plant-based world. The more I get into veganism (because I do subscribe to the environmental and animal rights convictions), the more I learn about even my favorite greens. Spinach I know now that I can't eat a ton of because of oxalates. Cool... I'll mix it up with leafy lettuces and kale. Onions make my stomach hurt if I eat them raw... so I cook them. Just takes some adjusting. But, if you are keeping animal product consumption low, it may not be great for them, but that does help with the environment a smidge. Hope everything works out!

Yes if yoube been following me for a while you know i eat very healthy and ate TONNES of salad (its my favourite type of meal) Lots of chia seed oudding, flax bread, fruits etc etc. Protein was hard for me to source especially with soy allergy (and soy is unhealthy if you have tjyroid issues which i did) so i turned to legumes (which killed my digestion) and quinoa, hemp (which was nice) etc but because of the high lectin content of the foods i got very sick. I know vegan is besy for some people but just was not ideal for me and my digestion❤

Research the Blue zones. people on a Vegan diet or 90% Vegan are the healthiest in the world. This scenario also happens to people who give up smoking or alcohol or drugs. They get really sick and have to revert. smoking must be good, because most people that give it up feel weak and get all sorts of medical issues. Some people miss their morning coffee and they are hopeless for the rest of the day. Addiction remains the same no matter the object one is addicted to.

Hi there, let me first say that I say the following with the utmost respect and kindness, as I know tone doesn't come across very well. But I wanted to address a few things you said. In reality, you didn't actually go vegan. You tried a plant based diet. Veganism is an ethical position, not a diet choice per sey. To be 'Vegan' is to align your actions to that ethical position. If someone realises the full ethical implications of veganism, they have to have a very good justification for themselves to consume animal products again. They research every possible contributing factor to their ailments before thinking about eating animal products again. Why? Because It's like waking up to a deep injustice in the world. I don't think you made that connection and feel you were doing it for health reasons, meaning, you went plant based. The worlds leading authorities on nutrition have a consensus that a well planned vegan diet (ie. A plant based way of eating that is inline with veganism) is suitable and often beneficial in all stages of life. In only extremely rare cases are there exeptions. It is extremely likely that it wasn't the exclusion of animal products from your diet that worsened your ailments, but other factors instead. There may be some symptoms that come with a transition to a plant based diet as your body adjusts. These symptoms usually go away after some time. For example, with myself, my eczema reduced going vegan, but didn't dissapear completely. I later discovered I likely have a wheat allergy and cutting out wheat has practically cured my eczema. If you were eating more grains to make up for the loss of animal products, you may have been consuming a protien that you're intolerant or allergic to for example. The IBS could have been bloating and discomfort from the sudden diet change and you just needed more time to adjust. You seem like an open minded person. It's possible you could do some research on what constitutes an optimum vegan diet (a Whole Food Plant Based diet) and see if you could get close to that. You could also try to find out if you are intollerent oe allergic to certain foods. You could possibly also combine that with some research into the ethical and environmental implications of veganism, and the realities of animal agriculture to boost your conviction. And i wish you good health whatever you choose. With the information I've presented here, do you think its likely that you might do some more research on veganism and see if you could move in that direction again?

Thank you for your comment and I really appreciate that you are not trying to force your opinions and beliefs onto other people (since most vegans who comment here do). You are right in that I did not become vegan for ethical purposes, it was mainly due to health, finances and because I couldn't stand the taste of meat. SO yes, i was plant based if that is the correct term. However, I was and am ALWAYS against any animal products that are not pastured, grass fed, free ranged etc because I think its disgusting, cruel and heartbreaking what "farmers" are doing to the animals trying to make as much profit as they can and cramming hundreds and thousands of anmials in a tiny space, with no room to roam, breathe, etc and stuffing them with antibiotics and hormones and all the rest of it. Growing up, we were ALWAYS vegetarian, meaning we ate mostly plant based and lots of grains, LOADS of veggies, hardly any sugar and eat once a week usually on sunday and it was a very small portion of organic meat and we would eat wild caught fish once a week as well. We would eat yogurt once or twice a week and thats it, however we did have pastured eggs often. We mainly ate whole grains, veggies, fruit, and legumes and healthy fats. So I COMPLETELY understand about the adjustment comment you mad,e however I don't believe my body needed to adjust since I BARELY changed my diet when I went off all animals products :) The big difference for me when I went vegan was that all my meals consisted of carbs. When I was still eating animal products, I would usually have one or 2 meals a day that was veggies, fats and eggs or yogurt, so I had at least 1 meal a day with NO or very LOW carbs. I definitely had a wheat allergy, however I had it before i went vegan and after I went back to eating meat. i didnt stop eating wheat until a year ago. However, even with the wheat allergy, I still felt 100 times better when i started eating meat again. The thing was that I had candida overgrowth so the high carb diet was feeding my candida further. When i started including animal protein back into my diet, I dialed back the carbs and increased fish and eggs and almost instantly, my eczema started to clear, even though i was still eating wheat which i have an allergy to. I am now eating 95% plant based and only have meat and fish twice a week and yogurt once a week. I eat LOTS of grains but I am gluten free and I feel and look the best i've ever looked :) I do believe 100% plant based or vegan is GREAT for some people, but not for me. I am VERY conscious though of where my meat is sourced, and I ONLY eat organic, pasture raised grass fed meats and wild caught fish. I find that the factory farmed meat tastes disgusting and I will NEVER support those farmers who treat their animals like that. I don't think i will ever go back off animal products completely since I personally believe people need some amount of animal products, no matter how little, and I feel great the way I eat now :) But thank you for your comment and really appreciate you taking the time to educate :)

The thing is, even though you believe that it's not great for you, the worlds leading authorities on nutrition disagree. Both the British and American association of dietetics have a consensus that completely plant based eating is suitable and often benefitial for human health. I get it though. Your transition seems like it was more tricky than most other people, and that may make it seem like they're wrong. I'm no saint, I've made extremely unconscious food choices in the past. You're making conscious choices, and that's admirable. Infact, I'm guessing you're younger than me and I'm guessing that at your age, I was making more unconscious choices than you. It was only a few years ago I was eating organ meats, brains, horse, camel, and god knows what else. I prided myself on 'eating the whole animal' and 'not discriminating between animals' Organic grass fed cows are extremely scared as they are forced onto a truck, into a slaughter house, and towards a bolt gun that's fired into their head at a quater of their natural life span, when they then have their throats slit and are cut up into pieces. Wild caught fish still suffocate to death along with all the sea mammels in the by-catch. We may even live to see fishless oceans due to our consumption of animal products. I guess my thinking is, that if you now know that sentient creatures, just like the dogs we love and cherish, that have a emotions, sentience, moral value, and a preference to live, have to be killed for your food.... and you know that the worlds relevant scientific authorities state this is avoidable... would that not make it a priority to find out how to avoid paying for someone else do those things? I know that it became important for me. I wonder that if it became as important for you, whether you could see a plant based nutritionist to see how you could make plant based eating work for you. I get that costs money and that's a factor. I'm guessing from what you've said, that due to your experience, your belief is now so cemented that you wont look into this further at the moment. But I hope that I've at least planted a seed that might lead to some further exploration into this in the future because the animals and the planet really do need it. It's not about being right or being 'better than'. Other people did exactly the same for me before I became vegan. It's about passing on the message with as much kindness and respect as possible. Good luck on your journey. :)

Alex Shailer Yes, realizing how horrendous slaughterhouses are, also for the "lucky" 1% of the farm animals who are raised humanely - i finally had to admit to myself that there was no such thing as humane meat. And once i saw that, i was vegan. It wasn't even a conscious choice - once you recognize the suffering of animals no different from cats and dogs, the idea of eating them becomes as distasteful as eating your pets :_( the environmemtal impact (90% of deforestation caused by animal agriculture) was also frightening to contemplate.
@AlexShailer

Accidental Vegan spot on. it's interesting how everyone reaches veganism in slightly different ways. I think I reached the point where I realised eating animals and their products can never be humane, but I genuinely believed that humans needed them to thrive and be healthy, so I continued for a while, thinking it was justified. I think that's an important point here. If one can say "Well ,we need to eat them to be healthy", then that point alone justifies the continued exploitation. There's also this "Listen to your body" thing that a lot of people say at the moment. I get it, it's very important to be in tune with your body, and I feel it's a meme that's come about through people wanting to reclaim their bodies from 'authorities' who've not always shown us what's best for us. However, the body doesn't always say what's best for us either, it often screams out for high calorie food because we evolved from times when food was scarce. It often has withdrawals from things that stimulate the dopamine system like junk food, cigerettes, and alchohol. Once "I'm listening to my body" trumps "Let's listen to nutrition and biological science", you can justify animal exploitation again. You don't have to listen to what the research and reality is because 'Body knows best'. This will also be compounded if you enter a situation where you have some health problems and the source of them is unclear. It's even further compounded by the rest of society telling you it's not healthy or normal. I know I was scared to go fully vegan for months because of the general publics majority view that it's not healthy. Luckily, we have science, research, nutritionists, and thousands apon thousands of long term vegans, that have reached a consensus that it IS healthy... And that's crucial to the realisation that animal exploitation is immoral, because it takes away it's necessity, leaving taste pleasure, convenience and tradition as reasons which we both know cannot justify animal exploitation.

The only way I would ever adopt a vegan diet is if I am forced to do it. I have nothing against veganism or anything else, it's just not for me. Being pescatarian works best for me and my body. I cut out pork when I was very young, but at 28, I cut out chicken, beef, & turkey as well (those are the meats I used to eat). The 1st six months were the worst, but it also opened my eyes to how I used to engage in mindless eating (esp when it came to fast food) on a reg basis when I actually thought I was being mindful. Cutting out meat (except seafood) alleviated many issues for me, and I simply don't want meat anymore. But going vegan? Nope. Not for me lol. It's good you did what was right for you :-)

I keep mentioning this, why not fight for the end to factory farming? Write to legislators to ban pesticides, make farms let animals graze, free range chickens. Make them keep animals humanely processed for meat. Look up Temple Grandin, who made a brilliant way for cattle to go to slaughter. Yes, they have to die, but everything dies, eventually. There aren't enough fancy farms to take all the animals. How do you control population? If you really, really think about it all, there is much more you can do besides lecture people who simply want to eat what they want to eat.

+b. KCee you clearly have no idea how civilization works at any level; of course when vegan trends demand more exotic foods, those become too expensive for the local populace that used to sustain themselves primarily on those foods, which forces them to deforest more and implement more animal husbandry and industrialized farming. In most countries humane slaughtering is already the standard, and it is an enforced standard, but effectively waging economic warfare on the third world is certainly not helping any animals live better, longer, or get slaughtered in more humane ways - quite the contrary.
@GronTheMighty
@GronTheMighty 6 жыл бұрын
B.KCee The standards for slaughter is changing in a lot of places still of course, as every moral and ethical standard we strive for should, and largely as a result of the uncovering of the bad examples, the ones who are themselves almost too easily vilified, but placing blame for that on the people consuming the foods is shortsighted and misguided; there are vast amounts of waste and oversaturation mainly because of the heavy involvement of financial interests and competition on scaling and distribution and that's also what causes the apparent need for doing things in cruel ways either directly and organized or indirectly by i.e. having underpaid laborers working with poor equipment and many frustrations, and instead of hindering or hampering this general tendency, vegan influences mainly just shift it to other countries where it is much amplified due to the conditions already present there and the lacking standards there. Husbandry itself and slaughter can still be improved, yes, even in the best regulated countries, but that's not going to happen by a minority simply opting out of that market, it needs to happen *on* that market; much of this will happen largely as a result of the demands of the buyers of meat; the best social effect I think vegans should pursue more is to find ways to locally grow all of the otherwise imported plant foods and to either genetically modify existing plants or attempt more simple selective farming for evolving the plants that can be grown locally to contain more of the nutrition needed for a healthy diet, and in more accessible forms, with less toxins, less reliance on pesticides, and less reliance on cooking, but most importantly less need for importation. I'm afraid since millions of children die each year still from malnutrition in poor countries that inflating the value of their local plant produce is much more immoral than buying meat from animals raised locally, calmly, with good lives, care, and as painless an ending as we can make it. Of course making these demands is something a person or family can only do when their own purchasing power is sufficient - if you live on the poverty line, even in the best regulated countries, you need to just buy the cheapest things you can get, and this is an issue we should all be able to work together on, wherever we live. Lifting from the bottom we can reach further than if we scramble to stomp on one another to jump higher and higher only then to be stomped on ourselves. Personally I don't buy the factory produced meat packages, because i can afford to go the one of the good butchers and buy good locally raised meat where the farmers are families, and welcome visitors openly because they have no cruelty to hide, but not everyone can afford that, and those people won't be able to buy sufficient nourishment and variation in their diets in the vegan lifestyle; for that, local productions need vast improvements in the northern hemisphere especially. So, as you see, we do largely agree on a number of things, probably more so than not, but I think vegans should consider buying some good local carpaccio or a nice flank steak at a butcher's if they can afford it, treat themselves to succulent and healthy cuts of lean meats once in a while, make amends with meat-eaters they've vilified unjustly, but not forget to aim for the long-term sustainability of plants still, since we surely will be needing to first food-colonize space and other planets with plants, bringing a herd of cows or other livestock is going to be much impractical in and of itself and will of course make demands of feeding them too, so in essence I think there is a lot of potential in a part of the global population deciding to work towards the goal of making available all of the plants they themselves desire for fulfilling enough nutrition, difficult though that be to even agree on what is as it is also an individual question, but for vegans to so focus on aggressing towards people who eat meat is not helping towards that goal, nor does overzealous recruitment by pressuring with scare-tactics because that only serves to create ill-informed vegans that harm themselves. What is needed is the purchase of land, planting of seeds, learning and finding ways of working with the insects and wild animals that like to come have a share of whatever crop is grown or segregating it entirely into isolation from the wild, bringing plant growth into more sterile conditions to learn about and 'train' them over time. sorry 'bout the ranty style, just comes up every half a blue moon, take from it what you will, hehe. I guess the short version is; i'm annoyed that people so often squabble so much instead of chasing the f*in ball, y'know? :)

Vegan is a bad diet and some people can handle it for longer but the bottom line is that we are carnivores and we are meant to eat meat so it's especially asinine to hear these brainwashed vegans say that meat is eaten only for the taste. Bull, vegetables cannot be digested properly by mankind because our stomachs are not designed to break down plant foods. I eat a mixture of raw and some cooked meat and when I eat vegetables, I juice them. Herbivores eat the plant food and then we eat the herbivores so they do the work of breaking down the plants to retrieve the nutrients and then we get those vitamins and nutrients from the animals. Veganism is evil and brought upon by the dark occultists who really run the world so the peasants will be sick. Those dark occultists eat meat for sure and probably most if not all of them are also cannibals. Actually in a way, vegans are cannibals too because they starve their bodies so much that the body begins to eat itself.
