I am one of the players in your squad (Hawked) and am fairly new to the game.The main reason I downloaded this game is because I wanted an active, dedicated milsim community, something I couldn't find in other milsim games like squad, arma 3 etc. Project Reality on the other hand does offer the community I was looking for. The community itself isn't actually bad, It's just that the older players don't have the time to play (You can still find alot of them playing on Saturday afternoons though) and the newer players have taken over which isn't a bad thing, change is inevitable y'know and should infact be seen as a positive. Even as a new player, I have made many veteran friends in Project reality that helped me get better at the game (Catmouse is an amazing example of that) and whenever I log in, I know there’s always a full squad of people I’ll have fun playing with. Give new players some time to learn the game, and they'll soon git gud at it. PR is a complicated game and no one wants to read the manual. P.S As rough as this round was, the one after this was practically therapeutic. A bunch of PR veterans joined, including some MeRk guys, and everyone was just enjoying themselves and chatting about how their lives have changed and reminiscing about the history of PR. Even though I spent the whole round keeping watch on a flag, that round was one of the best. Also more slorgpinions content please. its good to see some chill commentary after all the action packed videos.

Arma3 is very much alive it's a different cat. people group up to clans/units and have weekly ops with each other on closed servers. some make their own missions and not publish the files most of the time public at all. some even make their own uniforms and other gear. it's a shop of what do you like and want? find a unit that plays the era, army, faction or war you wish to do. it is very much alive and still sandbox modders do things and publish tons of new stuff for the public.

man... you hit the nail on the head. I played PR for years and it was often a hit or miss. Some rounds were just straight up EPIC in terms of team play and coordination, and then other rounds you were just running around in a squad of randos who were all just there because of the requirement to be in a squad to not get kicked... Now that I went from having 1 kid to being a father of 3, I no longer have time to dedicate to team-oriented gaming like this however and thus barely ever play anymore. The memories still stick however & once my 2 youngest are old enough to not need dad as much, I hope to still find full servers on PR

The new players flooding in is why I keep playing SL.I remember joining around 2015-2016 when bluedrake was making videos on PR and wanting that experience of team work. Now that I’ve been playing for a while I realized I have become the kind of person who needs to SL to make that teamwork work. Anyone who wants to have that experience of what PR offers needs to SL at least a couple of times to understand the game. I find that when I’m SL, delegating SL tasks to another player helps take the load of commanding 8 players off my back. Split the team into fireteams, one assaulting element and one MG element, have the inexperienced assistant SL lead the MG team and give him some tactical freedom, I find that gives the new players in your squad some taste of PR should be. Keep your orders short and keep the objective in mind. Try to take care objs that give your squad some action. We were all new players once, and many new players might be COD players, but the fact that they want to play a near 20 year of game marketed as a hardcore teamwork based shooter has to attract a certain player who wants teamwork. Give them a chance and mentor them I say.

PR will always hold a special place in my heart but the cold "reality" of it all is PR's specific niche of reasonably easy to access (compared to alternatives back in the day) and somewhat realistic elements are just done better by newer offerings on the market. Which is a sad thing to say really since I don't think the tactical shooter genre is in all that great a spot right now. But on a more positive note Slorgs I am glad to see you're still posting to this channel, thought for a bit there you called it quits on slorgpinions.

I've been playing PR since 2006. I heard somewhere that even if you are right about something, once you react and start complaining, you make things infinitely worse. A self-fulfilling prophecy. I'm tired of seeing people saying "dead game" or the like. In the case of PR thankfully, I'm glad it doesn't work, many have claimed that it was dead over the years yet it's still here. I've seen Hell Let Loose servers going to 80 players after the last round, and as soon as someone says "dead server", it literally starts emptying, don't be a sheep and listen to those people. I agree on the WW2 front, absolutely, they could have used that time in so many ways you have mentioned, i'd also like to add, they could have overhauled the way the firearms look, it's horrid and most of the textures are from 2008's 0.8 update (the same one that added deviation). I do not agree with the point you've made about people only playing PR because they can't afford Squad. I have i9 14900k, 64gb ddr5, rtx 3070 and I STILL will choose PR over Squad any day. It has more maps, more dynamic gameplay, more factions, weapons and content in general. Matches are still way more organized in PR than any round in Squad. When I was younger, I wished for every building to be enterable in PR, now that I play Fallujah for example in Squad, it turned out to be a complete mess. Both because one guy can take out two whole squads, and because it's incredibly difficult for the friendlies to organize in any meaningful way. One other component that people overlook is that, in PR, the servers feel like another home, everyone knows everyone, you know what to expect when you get in, while in Squad there are so many servers, and the rounds are so quick and disorganized, you can't tell left from right. The PR golden days are long gone but little snippets of those times can still be found every now and again, if playing 5 rounds in PR, and only having that moment for a few minutes, it's worth it for me. The golden days were the Tactical Gamer server days, if anyone remembers.

In just one week, he banned so many members for messed up reasons that we voted to quit the mod all together. In just one week +160 (+3 or so kept playing it) players uninstalled it. We had a lot of fun and would probably still play it until today but as long as he was an admin there, keep playing the mod wasn't an option for us anymore. We switched back the original Battlefield series. And that's just our case. I played the mod long enough to know, that many more players quit it completely because of him. Now you know. I agree with you for the most part bro but this is one of the major issues Milsim games have always had. They’re either dead or you end up with a ton of exposure and they get flooded with new players who don’t really understand them or want to invest the level of time and effort to go all in on the hardcore stuff. I don’t think it’s really an issue with the new people themselves though they’re just new and it takes time to get used to these games. Quantity ain't quality, thats the problem, a few years ago, when we had 200 players on EU and USA servers, the community was smaller but the quality was far superior, more teamwork, more communication, the newer players just want to be snipers and marksman like the squad videos they see on youtube, don't expect people that want to teamwork, to try and talk to those guys, that don't even have mics, that join the squad for a kit and go to the middle of nowhere, not even close to the objectives, to snipe and even fail to get a single kill

My computer (I9 12900K, 32GB DDR5, GTX 1080) can run both PR and Squad at max settings. PR is better, so. much. better. To me, all Squad offers over PR is better graphics. I don't want Project Reality 2.0. I love Project Reality the way it is, but it desperately needs a face lift and to increase its server count, to have a better future. I love World War Two and I really like the passion and dedication from the devs, but I completely agree. They could've spent that time expanding the server count, the dev team itself, or porting the game to a newer engine, to upgrade the graphics. I've tried to get many friends into PR, and they refuse because of the graphics (even if they don't have money to buy Squad), No other reason. I haven't been playing PR because the American servers are either empty, or none existent when I get on.

I tried to do my part to revive PR a few months back as a veteran player in the EU. I get emotional when I think about climbing up the mountains in Korengal with a grappling hook at 3am with some new American friends, crawling through the fields on Kokan approaching insurgent caches, playing as the ARF on Ramiel. Man the memories and the people we met along the way, its a bitter sweet feeling. The current player base is mixed, it's a damn shame. The popular servers are managed poorly, people are kicked and banned too quickly and the result is a declining player count. I think the death of Free Candy Van was the real start of the decline. The only way that this game can be saved is to introduce mic only servers, some type of whitelisting via a discord channel for verified players. Let the shitters go play together and start building a community around dedicated players. It's not totally dead yet and I still think even 10 years from now, it will still be around... but I don't ever see it returning to the 'glory days' unfortunately.

Beautifully spoken and honest. Outside of the obvious reasons as a content creator for not continuing (even if they did continue to give good updates), I'm in full agreement with you on that one-year waitlist for more drab WW2 content. That was a big sad day for many people. The game and community have most definitely fallen apart immensely, but I think that is just old-age stuff we all knew would eventually happen, we just didn't know exactly what that would look like when it did happen. Though Squad has done fantastic with its game, it seems that it will never truly contain the spirit of PR as a community, unfortunately. There's just something "not as organic" about Squad, and too mil-simy about it in comparison to PR, and Squad is slow (plus, no grappling hook). I love PR forever, it has a place deep in my proverbial heart, but it's dead from its former, more brilliant self that we all knew and loved for so long. Glad you found your vision for making a life from gaming, which you clearly love a ton. You're great at making content, and you do it uniquely and hilariously, leaving me always eager to see your next video. Keep it up, Slorgs.

I found myself in the same boat some time following the 1.0 release in 2013 - when it went standalone, no longer requiring a copy of BF2 to play. They'd made the deviation much more forgiving, and made rally points much more powerful - where in .97 they were pretty much just a quick way to regroup dead/joining players to the squad while you were out of combat before moving on, they were pretty much mini-fobs in 1.0. Vehicles were made more abundant, with shorter respawns; 100-player servers were starting to become the norm, and the average length of rounds decreased significantly. So, a big influx of new players, with larger max playercounts, and mechanics that did less to reward patience, positioning, teamwork and tactics - more to reward what many would call "rambo" playstyles; vehicles that were disproportionately powerful because losing them barely afforded the opposition any breathing room, gameplay that was overall more fast-paced and attritional, less tactical - which made Insurgency especially just draining, but AAS too. Higher casualty and asset loss rates with the same number of tickets, brought about the end of rounds much quicker, and so made them harder to get invested in. Altogether it resulted in something of an exodus of many of the old boys and consequently, the standard of teamwork and communication diminished significantly, and carried on a long, slow decline - insulated from that as we were in Merk, especially while we had a server. I also tried having another go last month, only to find (or confirm I suppose) it's not the same game I enjoyed back in the day - it seems the devs never did much to reverse those trends. Used to be you could join or start a squad and near on everyone would have mics - crunchy as they were with BF2's VOIP - would be actively communicating and at the very least, more or less all in the same grid on the map. I did have one good round on Grozny with an SL who knew what he was doing, and a squad that was listening to him. We sat defending one point for about half an hour, attacked one, then the round was over. Seems that's become the exception rather than the rule. And unfortunately, it seems that that's true to some degree or another, of all the other games across the genre - Reforger, Squad, HLL etc. I guess it's just the natural consequence of the genre having a larger and presumably younger audience these days.
@SlorgpinionsАй бұрын
There are definitely issues in all modern games like this of rounds going too quick. That is a complaint I have with squad that the round always seems to end just as it's getting started, but I know squad devs deliberately shortened rounds by reducing tickets so I guess it's what the modern gamer wants

@@Slorgpinions That's one of the things I do appreciate about ArmA Reforger - it goes on until one side or the other actually wins, controlling all 5 "main" capzones being the victory condition. I remember hearing they're wanting to make all but maybe a few capzones entirely player-determined, sorta like PR's C&C but crossed with AAS. It has its own problems - wouldn't be ArmA otherwise - but a lot of them even in relative terms. The netcode sucks and makes straight-up fights a coin toss - but it gives you way more space, time and room to set up ambushes, minefields, sneaky emplacements etc, and has a logistics system that makes those things meaningful (still a lot of room for improvement there) - so I've been managing to squeeze my own fun out of it in spite of all the jank. The ICO to me is a step in the right direction for Squad - I say, as someone who actually enjoyed PR 0.8's ridiculous deviation in spite of how gamey and abstract it was. The Refractor engine has a weird sense of scale to it, and lacks a certain level of detail (as practically all games do) that made that abstraction necessary to produce the kind of gameplay the core audience and playerbase actually enjoyed. They compromised on it, in order to try and garner wider appeal - but failed to satisfy the core playerbase, or the kinds of players they were trying to attract. A tragic tale as old as time. All by degrees in PR's case, but on a long enough time-scale, well, we see the results now. Post-ICO weapon handling in Squad is that same kind of abstraction and still a necessary one, but also much more believable and intuitive. If they had the minerals to make the same kinds of decisions around other areas of gameplay - ticket count, asset count & respawn rates in particular - it'd be a much more compelling game to me. I hope they find them.

The community: Your statement on the community being like "a home that you comeback to" is true yet i dont agree with certain aspects. you see, the veterans are the ones that are avoiding the responsibility of leading a squad because most are new players. its our responsibility to create that sense of immersion, players that scream for medic in local, squad leaders that yell orders, battle cries, contact call outs in local while under fire. whenever i lead a bunch of newbies i always end up with a headache, yet they learn and always look forward for the second round. mind you there are language barriers and culture differences that need to be acknowledged. I still love the community new players and old, and i dont think it became oh so negative. PS the other day i accidentally pressed E while flying a full chinook. PR used to be my main game for years. I made one of my best friends, if not the best, playing PR. We've been friends for forever now. PR was very different back then. Every evening you almost knew which players to expect, and 99% of these guys were amazing people and I loved squadding up with them. I loved the random chatter and joking together, helping new players get a grip on what PR is about and how to play. But for me it felt like 8 or 9 years ago, after the standalone release and end of PRTC11, it kind of started to go downhill with the community. Don't get me wrong, the SA release was amazing with all the new people, but the community eventually "degenerated" into something that has no resemblence to what the game used to be. No mic players, people just "memeing" around, slurs, locked squads, solo ninjas etc. Eventually I quit as well after a lot of the great peeps were online less and less frequent. I still like to check in occasionally, but it's never going to be the same as it was like 15 years back. The graphics never bothered me, I just don't care about that. It serves it's purpose. And unfortunately, Squad isn't really a replacement. The infantry overhaul was a nice attempt, but the community is just so chaotic and has no interest in squad cohesion. In the early alpha of Squad for the kickstarter backers, I had a lot of hope for the game. But playing it now just makes me question my life choices. Every player is busy with their own war, SLs only push, push, push. Back caps every round because no one wants to hold an objective most of the time. Just mindless meatgrinding into the next flag with a red bar.

From a monetary standpoint im with you n definitely think that you should prioritize you first, rather than a game which would only inhibit your growth. Its simply a shame that this game isnt more popular or on steam but we as a community have to work with what we have. In regards to the community I think for the most part your spot on, however i would argue that your experience could be effected by the fact that your an english speaker. With the death of hog n the slowing down of u777 ive noticed many english speakers, specifically US n EU players has declined given that their spaces are now taking a dive in population. However taking a trip to the latam servers, i find that, even with my limited Spanish, that core pr gameplay is still alive. They have clans and most if not all bilingual english and spanish speaking vets moved there, which in effect drew more players away from u777 or other english servers. A great deal of this player base for years has been forced to learn english to comply with the most popular servers, it just so happens that this is now the shift the games taken. While its a shame the english speaking community has taken a dip i still feel like its something which can be recovered from, i personally am happy to learn more Spanish if it means continuing to play this game, and seeing the treatment of non english speakers throughout the years its interesting to see they finally have their own space and now have in effect subjected the rest of the community to what they once faced. If this community is set on continuing to grow we must treat new players with patience and kindness and realize this game must suffer periods of lowered collective competency to survive. I remember being new, and i continue to find that after every new update this influx does hinder gameplay, however i tend to find that after a 6 to 9 month period the game returns to its former collective skill base. The core gameplay is still here, and i myself was only introduced introduced to this game because i had no money and a 20 year old pc, however what i found here was and still is special its just up to us to retain these players and make them see the beauty and craft in pr. Pr has always had issues with its player base, whether it be the hog days of admin abuse and more frequent updates dragging in new inexperienced players, or now, we must remember that we ourselves have a part in the future of this game, while it may be hard i find that ditching my preferred play style of assest whore and switching to squadleading, while harder, does foster that communicative and active player base. While ofc the solution is not to have every vet turn into sl mains, i think we just have to be a bit more patience and remember we will always face times like this, and have in the past.

Funny enough, i bought Squad and is pretty much worse to play around here than PR, but hey, it is what it is

It is OK to be outplayed by the other team and suffer. Part of the game. It is not OK with server administration does not react to reports in order to mitigate the damage singular players do by either inactivity, lack of teamplay standards or sheer incompetence. U777 needs to up their game in that regard. Needless to say, that round was very disappointing. If it was a singular round, all good. But it is not.

@@comedyguy911 You are aware that a) there is a conflict of interest when playing the game AND admin-ing, especially under time pressure and pressure to organise your squad, and that b) I did step forward to make the game better for players, both on a community, event level, content creator and as a active full (~96%) SL, teaching new players and what not. Now, it was fun, but it was also not fun at times. So in a way, I tell myself that I earned the right to formulate critique, if only by getting hands on experience in the subject. Since you are pointing fingers at me, I kindy ask you back: What DID YOU DO for the community, or what do you intend to do? A lack of an answer might reflect the symptoms I described in my comment.

For me best part about PR was community! And ofc the gameplay itself. about youtube, it’s completely understandable, i mean PR won’t be able to compete against these new games in terms of visuals and graphics, ‘dog piss poo’ graphics that sums it up, maybe just like you said if they invested in upgrading the graphics engine PR would be one of the best milsim shooters out there. It’s unfortunate what it has become, and the loss of the community and the dedicated players is what saddens me the most, where you say that hopping on the game feels like home i can completely relate to that, met a lot of people and made alot of friends, i even got alot of memories and good moments lived in PR. All came to an end unfortunately cz i myself haven’t played for over a year, anyway! Keep it up slorgs great videos and hope you thrive on your way of making out of youtube a job!

I stopped playing last year. The game has survived a long time still does, in fact, but not as strongly as it did a few years ago. The p4ndemic boosted the player count temporarily, but it didn’t last for too long. It's truly remarkable it's lasted this long. Even Squad couldn’t quite become the true spiritual successor. The old BF2 engine hasn’t aged well; many players find the simpler graphics outdated, and the gunplay feels a bit clunky by today’s standards. There’s no one to blame, really. The player base has shifted. Most new players either aren’t interested in using a simple microphone or lack the patience to learn the game (even though it isn’t that complex). The remaining veterans don’t want the responsibility of leading and teaching new players who are willing to learn and the development team has changed a lot too. Most of the remaining players are from Latin America and Russia, where high-end PCs are less accessible compared to the U.S and Western Europe. I think it’s time to move on. I’ve heard great things about Arma Reforger, but unfortunately, my PC isn’t powerful enough to run it. I’d also recommend checking out the game’s OST, especially "Homeland Ambiences." Scott Tobin is a genius who deserves more recognition, I believe he’s also working on the OST for Squad too.

I have downloaded PR like couple of months ago after seeing that the WWII update was released or something, but denied to play since there is very few servers, and somewhat switched, or rather stayed with Squad - the rhing with tactical shooters is still imho that graphics do not matter, as it is about game mechanics, like I take mic usage, good performance (on low budget PC), player control and gunplay for granted - and last but oh so least is servers, players, and mods, although if a game is tactical enough in vanilla then sure - to sum it up, I still feel like that even Squad, HLL, Squad 44, Arma games are just still not there yet...
@srdosexАй бұрын
The game needs updates with new modern warfare maps. Real 4KM maps, not those 4KM ones where 2KM is water. In the Latin American scenario, the servers prefer to run 2KM maps for the most part, the mess is general in the assets part, there is a lack of balance in the Heavy AT kits, nowadays it is fashionable to be bordering on DoD with guided HAT and Manpeds.

watched a little in every time tab .. and #1 is what got me the most and that's "the stupid new players" it's not long since i started playing tactical shooters "i just started 2019/2020" i started with squad and after a short time i got Post scriptum "which is Squad 44" and Hell let loose .. before starting or even purchasing everyone of those games i spent a good amount of time on youtube looking at gameplay videos .. tutorials how they are played ,, after that i decided that YES i like them .. even when i didn't have a mic i was starting every game with "hello guys i dont have a mic but i can hear ya so you can tell what you want" .. and most was agreeing to that and we had great times i'm telling this story not show how a good person i am .. but to ask : WHY the F^c8 these stupid people don't check how a game is supposed to be played before playing it ?? i mean youtubers i've watched "like Karmakut / Moidawg and few others" were doing just great to let the new player know every detail in the game but because of these IDIOTS i noticed about a year or so squad is turning into some kind of PUBG where everyone running for his life or to get as much kills as they can 😡

Started playing PR when squad updated their graphics *again* and raised pc requirements above what i could run. Stopped playing PR when Post Scriptum came back lol. I actually dont play PR anymore because logging in to check if there MIGHT be a server to play on, and then waiting there spamming the join button for 15 minutes if there is one, just so i can MAYBE have fun if theres a good english speaking squad unlocked with room is just. Too much.

Squad has become super promising, but I just havent been convinced to buy it yet simply because I dont have the time to learn that game

Hey man this was a great video and ngl i have to really agree with all of your talking points, as i have stopped playing weeks ago and am not planning to return to the game. You pretty much hit the nail on the head. The community sucks, with two polar extremes. New players with no mic and hardcore "i have played this game before you were born" type of players with a certain sense of entitlement and immense hate towards anyone who doesnt know what they are doing, which is just going to kill this game in the long-term, if we drive off new players by being toxic as fuck. Server administration is retarded and too political and hand out bans like fucking candy. I used to play squad but moved to PR because of the better community and them being more skilled, but with the current state of the game, if i need my fix of tactical mil sim i will just play squad, squad is just better. This game generates no revenue for the devs, its free, it has no future. Squads future is looking bright with new factions, weapons and cas being added soon. I wish you the best in ur youtube career slorgs, god bless and may you prosper, i wont be returning to pr as a seasoned player for a verrrrryyyy long time

About the community: Can't you make your own community with your "influence" as a youtuber? Hahaha i mean. Make a Discord group with the people you would like to play and coordinate a certain day per week to play. Or maybe you've tried before, i don't know. But i'm thinking about doing that kind of thing myself, with other games. Even if you don't want to DIRECT the community, you could have someone else do it (someone who wants to), while you just make more people come, with this channel.

Give them time bro. PR has gotten a big bump of exposure recently so you have a flood of new guys who aren’t all that used to Milsim style games. Years back I was the exact same way. I found out about PR and ARMA and was just amazed by them. It took me a good year though to really get used to them. Give it time man. "If you were a helicopter pilot and you did not knew what you were doing - you were going to get kicked" You are talking about how nice the community was, and yet from this story it feels we are better off than we were then. Locking out people from trying out new stuff in the game due to inexperience is the definition of gatekeeping. And before some genius would suggest people to just go and try flying in BF2 outside of PR - not everyone have BF2 or wants to download a different game just to try out new stuff in a game that they are already currently playing.
