Here's the shirt: www.hybridcalisthenics.com/hello-mfs Here's the original thumbnail, which I was concerned might violate some of KZbin's new content policies: imgur.com/a/ZOQveHg. Probably not. This is a Coffee With Hampton episode that I sometimes do on the channel. It's about life, mental health, self development, and more. I'm considering a second channel where I do longer videos on it. Plus, that'd give me to make some videos that are often requested but don't have much demand (such as how to manage anger, make friends etc). Will update you all. Have a wonderful day!

I kinda went the opposite way! 😅 I spent years refusing to swear because everyone else did it and thought they were cool. But in the last few years, since my kids got older, and I don’t work anymore, I swear a LOT. I still speak politely around my parents, but only because language means a lot more to them than most of my family. I think it took me until I was 30 to really figure out who I am regardless of other people.

You know, I wonder if I was subtly influenced by this in a similar way "I spent years refusing to swear because everyone else did it and thought they were cool." This is and probably will be my lifes struggle. All my childhood I was praised for being kind, smart and "angelic". My nickname actually used to be "mother theresa". I was so sweet and liked by pretty much everyone. As a teenager I wondered "AM I actually nice? Because what I feel inside is sometimes jealousy and anger and hatred". What I was and what other people thought I was got so mixed up that I, to this day, cannot clearly see what the nuances are for me. What helps, however, was going the polar opposite. Swearing, getting a stupid boyfriend, skipping law school for a few years and farting frequently in front of my prude dad might seem like bad life choices but they have been so freeing that I was able to comfortably go back to my actual goals and pursue them. Law school feels much easier while swearing, being kind is much more fulfilling when you do it to actually help others instead of impressing others and dumping the stupid boyfriend was easy after accepting that every stage of me is lovable. Even if I don't really know what "me" is.

One quich thought that is part of a longer comment that I posted myself. I believe that it is okay for your outer presentation to be different than who you inwardly think that you are. What I believe is important is that you actively choose how you want to present yourself and also chose who you actually are. And it's okay if those two things are not necessarily the same.

@@anyascelticcreations I like that thought of making a conscious choice to be a better person or just a different person even if your inner self has different desires. However, to me it felt very limiting to not express myself. I felt trapped. It depends on the person I think
@anyascelticcreations
@anyascelticcreations Жыл бұрын
@@itsnemosoul8398 I agree that it depends on the person. I think it might depend on age and life experiences for some people, too. When I left the religion of my family at about age 25 I very much did want to express that to everyone. I couldn't stand to proclaim for one more second that I believed something that I very much didn't. It was very important to me to portray myself as accurately as possible. To do otherwise felt like a complete lie that I wasn't willing to do. But that choice to so obviously proclaim my disbelief and my choice to leave the religion cost me most of my family. Many years later I decided that having a relationship with my family was more important to me than portraying myself 100% authentically was. I had already been through declairing my truth to the world. My fire was vented. And in many ways my personality calmed. Now I make a point to alter my vocabulary depending on who I am talking to. Because it seems to me that the same truth can be referred to in many different ways. And I'm okay with whatever vocabulary the person I'm talking to chooses to use. But I definitely wasn't that way when I was young. I have mellowed with age. And my priorities have changed, too. Not that I feel that my priorities were wrong before. They are just different now. Anyway, I guess I'm meaning to say that I understand. And in ways, I have been there, too. ✌️
@itsnemosoul8398
@itsnemosoul8398 Жыл бұрын
@@anyascelticcreations I understand this fully. And it's funny because I'm actually 25 years old. I'm slowly coming to a similar solution where I accepted that I cannot break out of a certain box because I wouldn't have a good relationship with my dad. (I have a narcissistic father who still is very loving) But in that box I want to be as free as possible which is sad but not possible any other way. I really wish I was able to claim basic respect from my dad which will not happen. So I will accept love/support as a compromise and hopefully I will find peace in that like you did as I get older. There has to be a middle ground for us children who love their abusive families. Because a) we don't want to be fully seperated from them and b) once they die their beliefs die with them. So all that is left is us and our choices. And we have to live with that. I really don't know how much I can bottle up of myself to continue experiencing love as a trade for respect.

Those are very good advices, young man. I can tell that you meditate a lot and/or are a natural-born philosopher. When I was a pup, I used to be easily controlled by almost everybody. I didn't think highly of myself and was often sad for no reason. I was also a very shy kid, to the point I would refuse giving oral reports in school because I feared what my school mates would say about it. So I, little by little, without noticing it, started enjoying being alone. While alone, without the noise of other people's influences, I started to self-analyze myself and the world around me. I thought about my existence, about God, about why things are the way they are, about why people are the way they are. I thought about why some people like to control other people and why some people let others control them. I concluded that the most genuine way to go through life is to think for myself, irrespective of other people's opinions. And to make sure I have very good reasons for all my actions or inactions. After awhile, I could not think any other way. I became a very logical person. People started accusing me of being stubborn but I would easily explain my reasoning and say, "I'm not stubborn, I'm just right". Soon, my shyness almost disappeared, my self-confidence went through the roof, my stress levels completely crashed. I could do oral reports and even feel proud of my performance. My grades skyrocketed without me even trying. It became easier to get girlfriends. By the time I started high school I already knew I wanted to be an engineer. Although the journey towards my goal wasn't easy, I think it would have been impossible for me if I couldn't think the way I did. Long term benefits: We've being married for 33 years and have 3 adult daughters that think and act righteously (most of the time). People have been telling me (and my wife) since my 30s that I looked a lot younger than I am. I've always attributed it to the low levels of stress in my life (a well paid easy job, same girlfriend, no enemies, no drama, great hobbies, not giving a bleep about what people think of me), regular exercise, a healthy diet, etc. My wife also looks young and she's just one year younger than me. And yes, I treat her like the queen she is. Now that I'm in my 50s, when I'm with one of my daughters in public people occasionally get surprised when they realize I'm not the brother or husband of my daughter and we all have a good laugh. I hope this translates into a longer life.

The F-Bomb is extremely generic and doesn't help us get to the source of what's causing our discomfort, while naming our emotions - sure it does, and helps us to work and improve. I've never liked swearing, never liked how the words felt in my mouth. I'm a writer and I believe words have significance. I work hard to find more creative or funny ways to write an insult or swear. It doesn't mean I'm not tempted to drop an f-bomb if I stub my toe or something, but I also believe in the importance of self- control and sticking to one's convictions. I'm fine with other people swearing, and regularly laugh at jokes that I personally couldn't repeat, but I also appreciate when someone tells a joke or story without swearing. I finally, officially moved out of my parent's house last year and now live alone. I get to choose everything from how I decorate to when I go to sleep at night. It was overwhelming and lonely at first, but it's helped me get to know myself without the influence of parents or roommates (like when I was in college). I think it's a valuable skill to be able to spend time alone with yourself and your thoughts. Not everyone can tolerate that, but if you can, you might be surprised what you learn.

Hey everyone!! I just wanted to share some good news with you all. Let's just put it this way, the Ten Commandments are called the Moral Law. Ask yourself this. How many lies have you told? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever used God's name in vein? Have you ever hated someone or ever looked with lust? This is for you to judge yourself, but chances are that you are a lying, thieving, blasphemous, fornicating, adulterer at heart and you HAVE to face God on judgement day. Now ask yourself this. If God judges you on judgement day by these Commandments, will you be innocent or guilty? Of course you'll be guilty because we've all done these things. The truth is that none of us are good people and we NESD God's grace to make it to heaven. We judt simply cannot do it on our own. These Commandments arecalled the Moral Law. You and I broke the law, Jesus payed the fine. So now what we must do to be saved is to repent of our sins and trust alone in Jesus Christ! To repent doesn't mean to just say I'm sorry, but to turn from our sins and let Him truly be our Lord continually. He said that many will say to Him, Lord, Lord I have done all of these things for you. And He will say I never knew you. Depart from Me, ye who work iniquity! And those will be cast into outer darkness and raging hellfire and loneliness for all of eternity!!! Because we broke His law, He is very, very just to send us to hell. If someone had murdered 4 people and said to the judge, I've done nice things too and have tried to treat people nice but it was just one time, the judge would then say, okay but you're going to jail. And the judge is very just to do that. One last thing, if you were 10,000 feet in the air and you had to jump, you wouldn't jump out and flap your arms and try to save yourself. That's ridiculous! You would put on the parachute. It is the same with Jesus. You must trust Him as you trust the parachute. We are not good and we cannot save ourselves with our own goodness. We must trust alone in Him to save us. In just a moment of time you can pass from death to life. Jesus said, "Verily, verily I say unto you, you must be born again." That is how we enter heaven. Through the blood and grace of Jesus Christ!!!!✝️If you ask someone how to enter Heaven, they will most likely say, "Be a good person." Well the Bible says that none is good, no not one. We like to compare ourselves to guys like Hitler and say, "Hey, I'm a pretty good guy compared to him." But when we compare ourselves to God's standard, we realize that the Bible speaks truth when it says that we all sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God!!! When we see this ( our sin in its TRUE light), we see how much trouble we are in and we say, "Well then there's nothing I can do. I'm going to hell for sure then." It's true that there is nothing that WE can do, but there is something that has already been done for you! God sent His One and Only Son to die on a cross as a sacrifice for our sins! So to recieve that eternal sweet sweet forgiveness, all we must do is repent of our sins (meaning to continually turn from them and confess them) and trust alone in Christ as you trust a parachute. If I was to push you out of an airplane, you'd want the parachute for sure! Don't try to flap your arms and save yourself, trust in the parachute! His finished work on the Cross IS ENOUGH!! He is the only way to Heaven, He said it Himself!! These other religions teach that we must he good and do good things and then maybe if we've been good enough, we will enter Heaven. But if that is true then we are all doomed to eternal hell because none of us are good. That's why this makes sense. Look at the Ten Commandments, they are written on your heart right now!! I promise that you have violated them. And you might still be doing that today. Therefore God is just to poor out His wrath on us because we deserve it!! But Christ died for us so that we can spend eternity in Heaven with Him! Turn to Him today, and He and only He will save your soul "Verily, verily I say unto you, you must be born again ( to go to Heaven)."✝️The true joy of Christ dwells in me!!! Does it in you? I know where I'm going when I die! Do you? I have an ETERNAL victory! Do you? I have more joy than ever because of what Christ has done. I have been down both roads. The road of the wicked and the road of Christ. Christ is way better and my cup runneth over with true joy and salvation. If you do not know the One true God and are not sure of your salvation, I promise He will never fail you. Turn to Him in repentance and faith. Repent means to confess and forsake your sins, never turning back to them. I tried changing on my own but I couldn't. It took the power of Christ on the inside of me to do it for me. He will give you a new and clean heart with new and clean desires and you shall be born again. A new creation in Christ Jesus! Hallelujah! Jesus said in order to enter the Kingdom of God, you must be born again! Thank you Lord Jesus!!✝️

This is a fantastic video. I'm guilty of living most of my life pursuing what others thought I should do or be. It has made me terribly unhappy and regretful. I have friends who swear regularly and, seemingly to me, without reason. I do swear, but it's usually when I'm expressing, excitement, shock, disbelief, anger, frustration, etc. To me, using swear words constantly dilutes the weight that I think they were meant to possess.

I came on to look at your calisthenics from a video I saw, and was completely blown away by this “motivational” talk. Your analysis and addressing personal choices, based on an upbringing, and therefore, changing them into who you really feel, you are is truly brilliant. Everything you say is too true. Cursing, is indeed a habit… I just would hope that people would respect children and not curse at them. So many adults have no idea just how belittling it is for children. Children act like it doesn’t bother them, but truly, when you see it from the other side, and they break down and they’re only five years old, it does affect them more than people realize. Thank you for this very insightful, thought filled video.

Pfft I get this. Ever since I was in pre-school my parents and peers would tell me how "mature" I was compared to other kids and blah blah blah. This led me in middle school to try and keep myself as innocent as possible not only for myself, but so people would like me (because that was the only way apparently). After eighth grade I couldn't maintain that persona anymore because I'd been forcing it for so long, I went the complete opposite direction and now I swear like a sailor all the time lol. I'm much happier like this, definitely less pressure and a lot more fun. It's also great talking to old friends and they're completely shocked at the 180 I took. But I'm still in high school now, so who knows how life'll go. Maybe I'll do another complete 180, but given my current thoughts on that I highly doubt it lol.

I just found you a few days back looking for no-equipment workouts a few months into my mindfulness and therapy journey and now I see that you also make this kind of content. This is accidentally something I was thinking about the last month - nothing and no one ever exists in a vacuum, we all get influenced by our environment, the people we grow up with/around, the cultures around us, whatever we hear in school/work/on the news etc. If we didn't have social media, pop culture, art, religion, politics etc. what would we be like as people and how would we make our choices. Almost seems like choice is an illusion and every outcome is predictable.

Dude this channel just continues to change my life for the better. This definitely made me realize I wouldn't be swearing if I could run without anyone chasing me. I distinctly remember forcing myself to swear as a kid because my friends swore a lot. It was really unnatural for me cause strong words are really hard for me to say. I have to force myself to say I love you or I hate something even if I really mean it. Swearing comes more naturally to me now so idk if I'll fully stop but I think that realization is very important to remember not to force myself to swear when I dont actually want to. Thank you.

Lots of wonderful insights-and what a great concept for a personal cleanse: removing reactionary parts of the self! Thanks for being family-friendly with your content. Crude language/swearing so easily becomes a crutch and can shrink down vocabulary. Polite and thoughtful speech is of higher quality communication; the varied perceptions of what is authentic is subjective. If you keep your content classy for your (and and others’) posterity, you can’t go wrong!

I appreciate this thoughtful video! I grew up in a rather conservative family (though of course "conservative" is always relative), so even saying "stupid" was a no-no during childhood. As an adult, I still prefer clean language... partly because I take words seriously and kinda literally. More than my parents do. So foul language is truly foul to me, almost like I can feel/smell the S word. :P I suppose my parents trained me in this direction. And maybe there's some rebellion mixed in there-I think I'm uptight enough on this and related matters that even my parents may think I'm a buzzkill. XD I don't expect or need people to modify their language for me. But I really appreciate when people take initiative to cut down on their swearing in our conversations out of consideration for me. This usually happens when they find out about my faith, or maybe when they just pick up on my delicate sensibilities. The unsolicited kindness and respect means a lot. ^_^

What you shared resonates with me a little too :) I don't swear because the words feel heavy to me, and I've noticed that whenever I'm in spaces with a lot of swearing, somehow it affects the atmosphere... Haven't quite figured out why, but I digress. I don't expect ppl to stop swearing around me, but when they make an effort it's something that is very much noticeable and that I, too, appreciate :) Out of curiosity, what is your faith?

I remember choosing not to swear when I was a teenager. It just didn't feel right and I could never bring myself to do it. I find it funny how people pick up on it and often adjust their language around me. This isn't what I want so I try to let them know that just because I don't swear that I think negatively on those that do, and they are free to cuss me out or in my presence. I remember intentionally giving up swearing when I was 19. It was driven by my first nephew getting to the age of listening and learning words. Now I am 44 and am glad I made that decision. Although those words slip out some times. ... definitely did in child birth or if I run a red light by accident etc.. But one thing to think about is are kids listening to you and learning how to talk. For sure they will pick those words and they don't know bad language from not bad language..

Weird, came to a similar decision last year. Have been trying to stop and, in so doing, recognized how prevalent it was in my vocabulary. I think it became very problematic when I was teaching English. I had to model perfect English all day every day to my students, so when I was home, living with other teachers, we all "relaxed" by swearing. However, I don't want to do it anymore. I came to that decision outside of social pressure.
