I spend about 1 hour per day walking and hanging business cards on doors. Which incidentally completes my " walking exercise ". Out of 100 cards I average 17 calls and actually go to 3 homes to give an estimate on a painting job. While I'm there I'm scanning for other things such as a dripping faucet, dirty air conditioning condenser, clogged up dryer vent, dirty a/c vents. I also offer a $50 referral fee. When I do a job I give a $50 discount if they allow me to place a sign in front of their house. Another thing I do is place business cards on the customers neighbors doors while I'm working everyday at the location. I send Happy birthday cards, Happy Holidays cards to previous customers. The point is to " ALWAYS BE IN FRONT OF YOUR CUSTOMERS " they will always send you referrals.

@Daedroh Жыл бұрын
@@olgahernandez1099 Same, they don't let me request for credit for leads that weren't even for me. I do concrete work and I received leads that were for framing decks. Called customer support and they said I was ineligible to get credit. This even after already investing my time and checking out the homeowner's project. You might say "how did you not find out that the lead wasn't for you until you visited their home....." well...... the leads project details said this "Install Concrete Patios, Walks, and Steps - Project Details "Would like an estimate for patio and possible balconies". During my conversation with them the first time I called them, I mentioned to them "We do concrete and we can come and check out your patio and give you an estimate" I guess they didn't hear me correctly because they said "great! see you tomorrow!"..... It's just ridiculous at this point. I already invested the time of my day to go and find out that the project wasn't even for me and to finish it off Angi's leads will not give me credit for this.

That has been our experience as well. We are in the Chicago and Northwest Indiana area. Fortunately most of our leads come from reputation and word of mouth. We have been working on marketing our selves a little more to fill in the blanks. With material shortages come the joyful challenges of running a business lol. You do get leads from Angi Leads, but the ROI is just far lower than organic leads. Plus it has you way over managing things with crummy leads. I would agree.

Any advice for a carpet cleaning company that is struggling with getting customers and competing with tons of other companies in Arizona. I tried google ads but it didn’t work
@chuckthecontractor Жыл бұрын
1. Google Maps (Google My Business) Listing w/ as many reviews as you can get. 2. A professional website that has a dedicated page for each type of customer ie. commercial, rentals, homeowners, etc. 3. Unique profiles on various other websites with accurate company info ie. Yelp, Facebook, Houzz, etc. Once you have all this locked down, then I would look into: - Google Local Service Ads - Facebook Ads - Google Ads in that order. If budget or time is a constraint, go knock on doors and let people take a picture of your business card. (They won't lose the picture but they'll lose the card)

Thanks for this because I was this 👌🏽close to signing up for Houz. But I don’t want any online presence after seeing this. Just a simple landing page.
@chuckthecontractor2 жыл бұрын
What are you trying to achieve with your landing page? How will people find it?
@purevibemedia2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, nothing. People won’t find it it will find them, via flyers and brochures. The landing page will be details and images about previous projects and a list of services provided. Customer can then follow up with phone call. I will also reach out to follow. No forms or contact information will be listed on my site from me or from clients. Because these sharks will stop at nothing to steal personal information and sell it, on top of what you mentioned. So I have to be vigilant.

I’m a consumer and I was fished in just as you said when looking for a fencing company. I had even included that I was not ready to buy just wanted advice and possible costs. I was deluged with phone calls which I finally stopped answering (sorry). I was feeling that I personally mislead these companies although I clearly wrote that it was a consult not a job. Then - I started to get harassed by the blood sucking referral company. They emailed and messaged me several times asking how the job went - did the company do well? What the hell are you talking about I wrote? I did not hire anyone. It was supposed to be a referral from a local company. Anyway I immediately felt sorry for every mislead company. And that was before I learned here that they actually paid for my info! Yea that’s why i don’t like them. They wiggle in between producers and consumers and take without giving. No value is exactly correct. It’s not that hard.
@Blenderite3 жыл бұрын
So I have a question. You don't like these "lead sellers" because they show up above the actual contractors? That's their whole point. They do everything you did to make your own website and then sell that to contractors who don't want to make their own website. What's so bad about that? I understand that they charge per lead and that every lead won't lead to a sell. And this sounds like an ad. I'm curious how I am wrong.
@chuckthecontractor3 жыл бұрын
I have no problem with the concept. It's actually a great idea and it used to work really well. Over time, however, it's become a lot more competitive (expensive) to show up on top of Google and so the prices have been driven up. These huge corporations make this happen even faster. My issue is that the lead reselling services are damaging a lot of businesses. The value has gone way down, the leads are often bogus, they're sold to 6 contractors at once, and 95% of contractors I talk to have had a horrible experience with it. The customer service is garbage as well. That's the problem. This isn't my opinion, it's based on the hundreds of business owners who have called me and told me about their horrible experience. I get calls every day with people telling me that it used to work but now it doesn't and now they are stopping the service and their back to square one. The goal with my company is to help contractors and construction companies get established with assets they own, such as a website, that can bring in customers sustainably and give them control and autonomy over their business. Once they have a foundational marketing system going, I often suggest trying other things such as buying leads if they need more volume, but warn them that it's a difficult way to make a profit for most.
@daniellehall9679 Жыл бұрын

I talk to folks who buy leads on a daily basis. 90% of them are looking for a way out of paying for a whole bunch of stuff they consider junk. The other 10% has found a way to make it work for them. They must have a super high turnover rate on contractors. There are a lot of contractors though and constantly new ones being made. Another thought is that Angi sort of has a monopoly. They often hog up the first page of Google. Angie's List, HomeAdvisor, Angi Leads, and Angi Ads are all these same company but they have multiple websites. They also funnel a lot of leads from other websites. I did a video about this. Leads come from all over the internet. Companies like Angi buy them on the open market and flip them to you, the contractor, for a profit. I'm sure they've done the math and as long as they keep signing up new contractors to buy these leads, they can keep operating the same way. They have a very aggressive sales model...
@brandontalley44322 жыл бұрын
also if a contractor tries to see what a certain job is going for to give an estimate I'll use Google it pulls Angie or home A and to get a quote you fill an area and job slip that you need done and ur city and hit get quote it sends it to a contractor and one called me and all I was doing was getting an estimate on average to make sure I didn't over charge and it was sent to that contractor and he paid for that fake lead that was made by me another contractor just to try to see the cost now if a customer says oh I want a quote to have this done and see the average cost they would see that and fill it out and boom another fake lead, infact that customer more than likely didn't even decide if they wanted the job to be done they just wanted to see a price range, yrs of that and recycled leads and contractors get screwed,

That's what a lot of people have been telling me lately. It's good for a month or so and then drops off. The owner of a lead gen company similar to HomeAdvisor told me that they might be front running good leads to new customers to make them feel like it's working and then taper them into the normal leads... Sounds like a ponzi scheme. I'm not saying this is happening but it's one of the theories floating around out there.

"value less/blood suck lead resellers" in one breathe and "lot of people haven't figured out how to rank their site" in another. Lol Sounds like you pointed out the value they provide.

The value they are supposed to provide. Unfortunately their services suck ass on the back end so it doesn't really fix the problem, just creates a whole other one. To add to it, the more you invest in their marketing and less in yours, the further away you are from being able to stand on your own two feet as a business.
