I am making a little statistical calculation here: did you buy any cigarettes or alcohol the day or day before they contacted you. I have a weird feeling cus they called me 3 times a week and each time at 5-6 when I just got out of a liquor store to have some evening steak and beer sesh

Thanks Chuck👍🏼 I've been in construction for over 20yrs. I'm just starting out as a GC and had some worry about leads. Thank you for this extremely helpful information. My experience from just talking with Angie was not the best. Extremely pushy to get the sale, to the point of pushy text messages as well. Lol, the price dropped down by 1/2 before I had to hang up.

In my experience, starting in 2017, Homeadvisor made the phone ring off the hook and build my business when I had no calls coming in. I started with no workers and no labor cost, and used only handyman leads for $18-$25 per lead. This formula worked well and some of these handyman clients have turned into major clients ongoing for years. When I switched to leads for painting whole houses the lead cost went up to $100 to $150 per lead. Now the lead cost gets astronomical very quickly. In this case you must make extremely good use of the leads, and the lead quality has become questionable, with many leads where the homeowner does not respond. Angi Leads will allow one or two leads to be refunded but after that you are paying for these leads. Also you must call within seconds, not minutes when a lead comes in, you must be the first person there, and you must have outstanding reviews. Definitely there are clients who say 'I wasn't expecting so many calls', and you will be competing on price with at least 3 other contractors. It may be a way to start a business but it quickly limits profitability, especially once you have the cost of other workers and can't simply lower your price and still make a profit. Also their monthly 'spend target' is nonsense. I think I had mine set at the lowest setting, $200 per month, and the leads would quickly add up to $1500.00+ if I was not extremely careful in managing them. The *only* way to handle the leads is to keep them turned off (you must pause every two weeks to keep them from turning back on) and then only take a lead when you need it, and pause the leads again. Repeat until you contact a client, submit a bid, and schedule work. I agree that building a high review count with authentic, outstanding reviews on Google maps is great idea. Homeadvisor (Angi Leads) did help me start my business. I would recommend it only with low cost leads (under $50), extremely cautious lead management, and a definite exit strategy and target date where you will never have to use the leads again. Thank you

4:20 No, it is not worth it as a contractor. When a customer is looking for a contractor, that lead is sent to multiple contractors. What does that mean? It means multiple contractors are getting that customer's contact info, and most of the time, if you're not the first one to call them, that lead is lost by another contractor who got to the phone faster than you. So you just lost money paying for a lead that you never got to go to. It's a guaranteed win for Angie and the customer, but it's a gamble for you the contractor. Is that really fair? Absolutely not. It's just not worth it in my opinion.

@mrfrostbite2020 You are 💯 % correct! I recently joined Angi Leads and I had no idea how it worked! My fault for not doing my research. My understanding from the salesman that talked me into signing up for Angi Pro is that if I didn't contact the lead I wouldn't be charged. Not true! Woke up one morning, checked my online banking account and over $700.00 was charged by Angi! I called to complain and ask for them to credit me. Their response is if you don't call the lead within 24to48 hours you don't qualify for a credit! These were all leads that I didn't want! I'm a remodeling contractor and also offer deck building. I got a number of leads requesting a bid for decks but they were all super small decks under 100 sq ft. These leads would probably be better for a company that only buids decks or a handyman service. I don't do projects that small. Also the deck building leads cost me $120.00 each. The remodeling and addition leads cost $86.00 each. Makes no sense! I'm extremely pissed off with Angi leads and Home Advisor. I've contacted them and paused my leads but they will only pause them for 30 days max. So i guess I'll keep pausing them every 30 days until I figure out how to get out of this ridiculous cycle and disgusting contract!

I've recently cancelled the subscription just a few days ago. The leads are very expensive and most leads do not pick up the phone nor return any of your messages. the "lead" customer is actually looking for contractors in their area to view their website or get contact info. They are not looking for anyone to call them. The website sucks them into a situation they were not seeking by sending multiple contractor phone calls to them. I instantly noticed that the contact leads were upset or annoyed that I am calling. Angi stated to me that the homeowner is paying for the service, that was a blatant lie! Angi/Home advisor is sad way to get leads.
@chuckthecontractor
@chuckthecontractor 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. This is one reason why so many "leads" are no good. The website is very unclear about what is going on and then next thing you know, your information is being sold to multiple contractors. It's obvious that their business model is to sell as many leads as possible. Quality is not of concern.

The guy from Angi that called me was WAY too pushy which is a major red flag. I told him that I’d have to spend a couple of days researching about them and think about it, because I’m starting to get calls for business as well as business with realtors for my small business and need to research whether this is a good avenue for me or not. He wouldn’t accept that, and kept on pushing the sales pitch, and no matter what I said, he’d keep on going. It reminds me of timeshare sales people. It’s extremely annoying! I finally just hung up on the dude. And less than an hour later, the dipshit called me like three times in a row and I just blocked the number. I started doing research on them and found out they got sued when they were called Angi’s List and just changed the LLC and name, and came back as Angi Leads. Everything I’ve heard about them is bad news. I hope they go out of business and stay out of business.

These are business decisions you must make. You have options. 1. Find leads elsewhere for less. 2. Charge more for your services. 3. Find something else to do to make money. Honestly, your goal should be to figure out how to pay more per lead and still make the profit you want. This opens doors for you. If you always hide from advertising and marketing costs, you'll struggle to grow.

Like I'm saying I've been there a long time don't know how they are approaching things with new contractors signing up. It'd be a problem for them if I dropped off the site. I think it could be good for more people if they were more honest with their customers. It might lose them money in the short term but at least they wouldn’t be looked at as such a shady company by so many.

Wow my experience with them is if I get 10 leads, 2 or 3 I can't contact, get 6 or 7 estimates and something like 2 or 3 jobs but it varies. I think that stinks, still I've been there since it was Home Advisor 2015, have over 100 reviews, been in business almost 20 years. My profession is trees and you have to be patient, those people will call you back, they will recommend you. It can take a few years to really measure the value of that initial job. Preferred the phone book but there was issues when that was the best way. Maybe take 10 to 15 leads a month from them. It seems to me if your a new business without some clientele maybe it's not a good vehicle. I agree that it's more work selling a lead you get from them.
@chuckthecontractor
@chuckthecontractor 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike! Getting 2-3 jobs out of 10 leads is pretty good. Even from organic sources this is a high close rate. You're right to attribute future jobs to the original lead. There are a lot of companies out there that do not even profit off the first job because they know that future jobs will bring profit. This allows them to spend more to acquire a customer than a company who must make a profit on the first transaction. Thanks for sharing your experience. We see really good results for tree services via Google Maps. If you aren't already utilizing that channel, I would recommend checking out some of my Foundational Marketing videos. Cheers.

Was with Angie’s list when it started and now the company is not worth using as it turn into something completely different than what it use to be, before homeowners used to look at your profile from a list and choose a contractor based of your profile and ratings and make there own choice and call you maybe 2 more guys tops now you get sent leads an more than half of those are false leads as in no one ever picks up a phone and no one is living in the home literally some of my friends have been sent to homes that has been boarded up no joke. It’s the only company that you will experience false leads with one needs to ask the question as to why that is. As a contractor I have many contractor friends and they all have already canceled with them or have been complaining about false leads and not properly vetting the contractors as well to even see if they are lic or have insurance etc. STAY FAR away is my advice

I'm super curious. How would you price a lead if you were leading angie's list . (sucks that Homeadvisor became so corporate)
@chuckthecontractor
@chuckthecontractor Жыл бұрын
Ethically I would increase transparency on both sides. Homeowners would know that their contact info will be sold to contractors to compete for their projects. On the contractor side we would be more honest and transparent with how things work. Also no long term contracts so we're forced to be valuable. The business might not survive operating like this but that's how I would do it. I'm not beholden to stock owners so I don't have to prioritize profit above all else. Pricing would be similarly determined by supply and demand algorithms. I don't have a problem with the way they deliver leads. My beef is with the serious lack of transparency and trickery.

I'm seeing a pattern, General Contractors it would appear wouldn't be a good investment. If you are in a niche business, such as Swimming Pool Installation to where an area isn't saturated with installers, it could be profitable. Liner Replacements, Reconditioning Pools etc. I'd think service work such as cleaning, maintaining Pools and such wouldn't work with this program.

Are they real leads are fake leads? IF they are real leads, is that worth the monty for you? What happens if the leads are not of the quality you expect? What do you do then? Is there an option to cancel the contract if the leads are no good? Be careful agreeing to pay long-term. Also, don't give anyone your debit card, Ust credit card. Build airline miles or cash back and also have an easier time disputing charges that are fruadulent.

@@chuckthecontractor Thanks for your advice, it's very helpful. They told me that there is no cost per lead after $300. $400 per month sounds interesting. @chuckthecontractor
@chuckthecontractor Жыл бұрын
@@alexandermartinez7151 I would make them put it in writing that the leads were going to be legit, meaning: for my service, in my service area, answered the phone, and were actually expecting a call. If all those were the case, then it could be worth it. The bottom line is that if you try it, measure the actual dollar amount that comes out of it. If you can make a profit after all of your time and expenses, then it is worth it. If you don't call people the second they come in.... If you don't track your numbers 100%.... You might end up getting screwed or at least feeling like you got screwed. To sign that contract you are agreeing to play a very competitive sport... You are going against people who mgiht be hungrier than you. You have to take it seriously and call those people the second they come in. And, track every damn thing. I would hope it was worthwhile for you because if it isn't, it's painful to exit the contract. My question to them is that if it's such a good deal, why do they lock you into a year contract? If they say it's because they will allocate people to run ads in your area, that's bullshit. They already run ads in your area... They are known to give you better leads in the first month or two and then start giving the good leads to new people, kind of like a ponzi scheme. Anyways, I would try to talk them into a trial. Record they call. They record the call so you can too. If they go back on your word, you have evidence showing show. Also, don't give them a debit card. Use a credit card. Banks protect their money (credit) more than they protect yours (debit). That's the best advice I can give.

In my work 1 good lead could really pan out so Im not too worried about the cost but just the quality of the leads and amount of information they want from you seems questionable. The level of spam has been rising for a while now. As long as you expect to field a lot of leads to get a good one, you can make it work.
