I love glass rods for chatterbaits. Caught a lot of fish on them that I am pretty sure I woulda lost on a more traditional graphite or composite rod. Brett Hite uses a glass rod. My fave is a 7-4 St Croix Heavy. Its awesome. But obviously, so much of this whole fishing thing is feel. Like, if you feel better with a non glass rod, cool, have it at!

What would your thoughts be on a Kd743c for a chatterbait rod? I have that rod as well as fury and colt 734c's. Do you think it would be worth it for me to go ahead and jump up to the sierra or would I ever truly notice a difference between what I already have? Thank you

I think any of them can be solid chatterbait rods and definitely comes down to your personal preferences and mechanics, no need to go get a Sierra 734 if you already have two other 734s

Champ XP 734 is my go to chatterbait rod. I like that it’s slightly faster than the Sierra, yet still slow enough to keep fish pinned well. Using Lews tournament pro 6.8:1 with 16# sunline sniper. Deadly combo for like 75% of my fishing.

Same for me, which is your rod of choice?
@gregc2621 Жыл бұрын
@HellaBass believe it or not I use a dobyns fury mh/f 7 ft. I fish the potomac so chatter is a must. If real thick I'll use 7 ft H/F fury Used to use a lews custom speed stick, but I noticed over last couple seasons it was a tad stiff (lews seem to be stiff/crisp) and I was in fact losing fish. Overall, rod action/power for any given technique really comes down to personal preference and personal style, in my opinion. For example, I use a more moderate rod than most for a spinnerbait. People think im crazy but my hookup ratio is off the charts.

Hey hella bass thanks for the great video and the tips for a alternative rod . Because my budget is the fury series. But I think with my jig rod I should spend a little more like the sierra series. @@HellaBass thanks Alot bud I think the 7' 3" is going to be good for dock fishing because here in Missouri ( Ozarks) we have Alot of docks. Now the reason why I say 7'3" for dock fishing is because one time I was out with a fishing guide and we were fishing near the docks. And my 7'6" rod was to cumbersome. Of course we were to close to the docks. Then again in your video you look like you were staying far enough away but you were getting your lures to the dock no problem. I'll get both rods and see which one I'm comfortable with I know for docks it's going to be the 7'3" hey thanks for the great advice I'll subscribe to your channel I hope you have a great fishing season this year and God bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike from Missouri.

Why is the DX series is not good for crank baits just wondering I like that model
@HellaBass2 жыл бұрын
Not saying a DX cannot be a good crankbait rod just saying that I typically value the price and sensitivity of a DX for bottom contact and finesse baits. There are other rods that have tapers and actions designed for moving baits in the more affordable series. But those same 3 power rods in DX can be used for cranks

Def everyone's preference. I have had the 735cb now for a few seasons and til this day I have only lost one fish on it and I blame my reel speed on that one because the fish swam right at me and came off. If I’m limited to a MH Fast action rod for the coming season, but still want to try a chatterbait, I gather you’d highly recommend mono? Any other tips that might help? I presume backing off the drag will save fish from having lips ripped out, but I’m guessing I should just expect to miss more bites because my rod won’t load up… am I better off just shelving it for the time being so I don’t develop habits I’ll have to unlearn when I do get better suited equipment?
@HellaBass2 жыл бұрын
Brian so hard to say, MH Fast varies from model to model and manufacturer to manufacturer. I say, just try it with 17lb fluoro or mono, if you are getting bites, hooking up and landing them, then you are good. If you feel like you are missing too many bites or bass are coming unbuttoned, then adjust from there
@BrianKuhl2 жыл бұрын
I figured as much RE: rod. I already had a reel spooled up with mono to learn how to cast a baitcaster last season, so I’ll probably give it a try at some point when the going is tough and I’m looking for a bite. Nothing ventured, nothing gained… maybe 😂.
