To solve your paper size problem in Onenote go to "View" > "Paper size" > and from the dropdown where it says "auto" select "A4" This will ensure your page is sized to A4. I used to take notes with OneNote, but it didn't worked out for me... My biggest issue is that when you add PDf with 40+ slides the document got so freaking long and to find any specific slide was ao bad... also there was no printing option or any guide lines to stay with in a certain format like A4, etc... It really bothered me, so I switched to good notes... If Microsoft would add a page option instead of the endless pages and a overview option of the pages in on notebook to easily find pages, it is/would be an amazing program... but so far nothing has changed in OneNote within the last 3 years... Goodnotes for Windows or Android Tablets would be amazing as well tho. Both are amazing, but have also their weak points, I guess you have to decide on which weak point is less effecting you...

I am specifically using Goodnotes to make handwritten notes and not needing to carry around tons of books or printouts. Yes as an EE student i do quite a bit of coding. But the code lives inside project folders of the IDE on my laptop, only code samples or examples get mostly handwritten into goodnotes. I don’t want to type my notes, for one, I’m to slow and it’s way less stressful. Some of my profs don’t even allow typed notes because it’s too distracting in small classes (~20-30 people). And with AirDrop and a Mac it’s no challenge at all to get a picture to goodnotes. You literally just have to command+c on the Mac and paste inside goodnotes, done.

I just hate the good notes organization. I used it for a couple of months and quickly figured out that the notebook feature was almost pointless. I then figured out that it took me a couple minutes to find my specific notes. I then figured out that the movement in the app was cancer. You have to use 2 fingers to move and the movement is very restricted. You cannot fling across the paper. I might be wrong but you cannot scroll diagonally, and if you can I remember being very annoyed with the diagonal scrolling feature for some reason. I finally dislike the organization. I want to be able to look at my notes when I feel like to, but it takes to much time to get to actual notes because you are just swapping through folders.

Also, when marking big sections of notes it would be very slow at loading which just gets on my nerves. But the thing that made me switch was when I tried to save my notes to PDFs and 1) it was very slow 2) the quality was bad and 3) it ruined one of my notebooks. I cannot get in to those notes and I’m so scared of it happening again. So GoodNotes it is! For context I mainly use handwritten notes and annotations.

Goodnotes has been doing a lot of upgrades lately; it launched a Goodnotes app for windows laptops that you can share your ipad notes with, and you can edit your notebooks at the same time on your laptop like Onenote does. I find the text tool on the laptop Goodnotes app up to par with Onenote's text tool, and you can copy and paste images or screenshots into Goodnotes smoothly. I'd say the only thing Goodnotes hasn't caught up on with Onenote is it's embedded file tool, where in Onenote you can insert a PDF file and you can write directly on the file page as well as beside it due to the endless pages (makes me feel less anxious about running out of space, BUT Goodnote's sitcky note feature does help overcome this. While Onenote also has a supreme organization of notes (notebook, section, pages), Goodnotes makes up for this by its outline feature that can help you jump from different sections of your notebook you assign (Just not available on the laptop companion app). Also, being able to easily switch between notebooks with tabs in Goodnotes helps too.

Thank you for this video! I use Onenotes and was considering to switch to goodnotes /another note taking app because I was unable to figure out where the margins were on OneNote to prevent cut off when printing. I use the print preview however the amount of notes I have it's not feasible. Still looking for a printing solution for onenote. Until then I trying other digital note taker.

I'm a social science degree with an anthropology major and I have sworn by OneNote since year 11 high school, I then tried Goodnotes due to the hype on studytube about it and it's nothing special. It just doesn't compare to OneNote if you are doing anything except for handwriting notes. Totally agree with you and people needed to hear this!

Onenote sucks on the ipad. No A4 paper size. Moves you away from google eco-system because you HAVE to save your stuff in microsoft cloud. Try to export something? Good luck. Unfortunately, notability desperately needs 1 or 2 more layers of organization to make it the perfect app, but they refuse to do it, despite the public demand.

I love Notability ! you can record your lectures as you’re annotating.

Nutrition Major here, good notes is EXTREMELY useful for chem and bio tbh! I absolutely love it! You draw the diagrams and write out definitions for terms, it’s great!

Please in Engineering I found OneNote super useful specially syncing-whise and exporting wise. The ability of exporting to PDF all my notes just by sections/subsections is so useful

I bought an iPad and Goodnotes after seeing tons of note-taking videos on KZbin, but when I started to use them to take notes, it felt very awkward. Goodnotes is still a wonderful tool, especially for those who have Mac, iPad, and iPhone because they can automatically sync between those devices, but for a Window user and a typer like me, it is so inconvenient. I use Notion to write things down on my laptop and now, after I take a note with Goodnotes, I have to screenshot it, download the picture, then upload it to my Notion :)) Still, Goodnotes is a very good app and every student with an iPad should have it. Goodnotes is coming to Windows real soon so I hope that it can be a game-changer for me

I actually love good notes. I majored in biomolecular science. I found it easier to annotate my slides on there while in class. Typing my notes does not work for me. If I needed to type I would just use my laptop. But whatever works for you.

Fountain pen with good ink on good paper is how I do notes. I get the notes digitized on Apple Notes. If you're an iPhone-iPad-Mac person Apple Notes works seamlessly.

ohhh that's an interesting perspective... before i have my ipad i used to only use onenote, but i remember feeling very drained and had to constantly stop my study process. i think the many pretty notebook & stickers available to use on goodnote really help me to stay focus longer now, so maybe if you are more of a visual learner like me who get bored very easily, goodnote can help

Not sure if Apple products have this, but with one note on Windows there's two different versions. One note for Windows 10 is the app version with only infinite canvas. If you want to do a set page size, so it doesn't cut off.. you can go into the start menu and look for a program labeled as one note (without the for Windows 10). Then you can set page size.

this video is very specific to the stem experience lol I'm a humanities major so I've never worked with data or slides--just readings and notes from discussion. i think everyone should just use what works for them

hey i use one note and usually if i want a A4 format the only solution i found was to screenshot or copy/paste it and put it in a word document before printing/saving into pdf :/ (i work on a surface pro)

Onenote is basicallya a multimedia annotation app. You can attach any media files to your note, so you can, for example, record a whole lecture and write notes at the same time.

Can also record lecture and take notes simultaneously in GoodNotes 5

Will any of these apps help make my handwriting better? I have horrible handwriting and want some software to help edit it slightly as I'm writing. Is this a thing?

Nice video! It all depends on your major. I’m pre-law and Goodnotes is perfect for me because all I do read documents, annotate, and prepare for presentations. That’s it. However, if I stayed a nursing major I probably would’ve preferred notability.

"You have to do it on your computer, screen cap it and then import it into GoodNotes." So I was not the only one being dumb? I bought an iPad and the GoodNotes app to help improve my productivity. However, my notetaking then took 2-3x as long as it did when I was using pen and paper because I have to screen cap all my math equations.
