Why I Stopped Wearing Makeup (Fasting, Praying, Breaking Generational Curses)

Here’s why I stopped wearing makeup and curling my hair 💛
I want to also say that there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing any of these things that I mentioned (including wearing makeup, doing your hair, or complimenting someone on their appearance). For me, it was all about my heart posture ~ which wasn't in the right place for the longest time, and so these things were something I desperately needed to fast from.
But today I curled my hair again, and I noticed that it didn't add to me at all. It didn't make me feel prettier, or better about myself ~ like I thought it would, and like it has for me for my whole life (up until now). It was just hair this time. And that was exactly my goal.

When people say 'but you're lucky you're naturally pretty and don't need makeup', they are missing the point. No woman needs makeup. No matter how negatively you judge yourself, you are complete just as you are. Sure, some people may appear more 'beautiful' than others, although I would strongly argue beauty is in the eye of the beholder... but you shouldn't need to hide your face with chemicals to feel more attractive, accepted or more beautiful in society.

2020 and masks brought me some trouble with my face. I was breaking out from the masks. I tried so many treatments. Then finally I thought. Let me just go back to the basics. Stopped wearing masks. Stopped using acne treatment. No makeup. And after about 6 months, my face cleared up ! Sometimes I miss it a little bit. But over all I’m very grateful that I don’t need 30 minutes to get ready to go anywhere anymore. lol.

Hiya i too have gradually stopped wearing make up, and yes it is hard. So i have given up one thing at a time first to go was Eyeshadow then i started having problems with my eyes so then i stopped wearing mascara, at the moment i still wear blusher and lipstick and tbh it does my head in having to keep putting it on and it irritates my lips. So yes i am starting today by not wearing anything 🎉 i think by things irritating me is Gods way of saying stop wearing makeup. I still use moisturiser and vasaline on my lips. I’m on a similar journey- it’s been a slow but gradual decline of makeup products at a time over the last 5 years…. As my skin has become more dry and sensitive in my 40s. I’m really wanting to let go of foundation for my skin and more peace , I’m going without it at the moment and just concentrating on a good skincare routine, Vaseline on lips, healthy diet. It feels really nice.

Yeah thanks to my women in my family I feel pressured to wear make up and that's made me look at it a a necessity to my appearance and something that gives me more "value" and that a man won't love me as much without it or be as attracted to me. And now I look at it as a chore and a thing that makes me look "presentable" or feel more "accepted". It takes up so much time. And for what? Just to take it off. It's not even fun to me anymore it just feels like I'm using it as an idol to gain more "confidence" and like you said that's not where our confidence should come from. It should come from God and not earthly things but heavenly things. I feel this fasting will further help me to deny my self and take up the cross and leave this vanity behind.

Is the photo in the thumbnail you with make up on? You look so much more beautiful without make up! Your face looks a bit harsh with make up, you look more open en genuine and softer without the make up, I think more 'you'. And I think it is so wonderful to think about what example your setting to the next generation. God looks at our heart, and places so much more value on who we are inside. I think we should all talk about this in church more often, not in a 'religious' way, but from God's loving perspective.

I agree with you that the Lord places much more value on who we are on the inside. As a society, I think we are so conditioned to look at the outside of a person (not even their appearance necessarily, but also just analysing someone at their surface level) instead of their deep inner self, who they truly are ~ and I really wanted to try to stop that from happening when people looked at me 🌼 There is so much more to an individual than what we see. By going makeup free, I FEEL much more "me" too ~ which is what I felt was the most important. Again, thank you for your sweet words. They mean so much 💛

You look gorgeous both ways! I love makeup and it takes me literally 5-10min max. I don't do anything with my hair except putting some almond oil into it to tame the crazy frizz! Simple and easy. The problem is we are advertised that we need to add so much extra makeup or hair products and effort that adds to the time and it doesn't need to be so complex. Funnily I think most of us look our best when coming out of nature, I look my best when I've come out of the ocean or exercising!

I never realized how much my insecurities stemmed from my mom’s insecurities. She never talk down to me about my looks. She always talked me up, but I would hear her say things to herself like “ I can’t go outside like this looking like a bug”(literal translation, it doesn’t sound as weird in Spanish). I am not sure if God is leading me to give up makeup, but whenever I try to wear makeup, my skin breaks out a lot - it did not used to be like this, but now, I feel like God is giving me skin breakouts to let me stop wearing makeup...? I prayed to God about this and I realized I used to wear makeup to please other people and to cover up imperfections, but now whenever I try to wear makeup I think of how God created my beautifully and I try to enhance the features God gave me, as an example, I dont go full coverage- just light coverage with eyeliner and lipstick thats pretty much it. Then the guilt of wearing makeup kinda went away the moment I changed my perspective about makeup. Now I know that God allows us to wear makeup to celebrate God's beauty and his creation!

I dont think theres anything wrong with doing your hair in a nice style because its still your hair where as makeup isnt your face its somthing your adding onto your face Theres a differece between using make up to cover and hide your self and a difference between enhancing whats naturally there such as doing a heatless curl or just simply looking after your hair and keeping it neat and tidy :)

Thank you for this. God has revealed that it’s time for me to cover my head. During Covid I started wearing skirts and dresses. I wear pants for gardening and shoveling. I love modest dress and now being 59 years old it’s time to wear beanies, kerchiefs, hats, or scarves. I do this to cover my head to show I am under God’s authority. He is my husband and I wish to be obedient unto Him. As time goes by God reveals more to us when we are ready and willing. God bless you. Makeup is fun, playing with all the colors and glitter, seeing your skin transform from red and blotchy to smooth, the problem with LEGALISTIC Christians is you’re bullying others who enjoy and think differently than you, God is definitely a fashion designer, He loves colors, birds with amazing sheen, flowers with sparkles in the petals, so if we we’re made in the image of God, why can’t we enjoy color for ourselves, or must we be boring, and live a bland beige colorless life, of worrying what others think of us. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ enjoys art, animals, children, rainbows He’s a beautiful God, inside and out.

God is the master craftsman. He created you in the image of what he deems beautiful. He took the time to form you in your mother's womb (Psalms 139), why do you feels it's necessary for you to coverup and alter what he has created? When you look at nature, the animals, birds, flowers, etc. do they not remain in the nature that God has created them? Are they covering themselves to change their looks with something outside of their nature? Art is beautiful but makeup does not fall under that category. Makeup is used by society to create a false standard of beauty and us as women have fallen into the rabbit hole of chasing that vanity. It's not legalistic, look deeper into it and pray about it. 1 John 5:19 "We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one." This world has been under the influence of Satan. Many of the things we've accepted as okay/normal are not in God's standards, so don't be surprise when God reveals to you something you've been doing for so long and that has been normalized by our society is wrong and he want's you to stop doing it. Are whole purpose as Christians is to be renewed and that comes with both internal and external changes.

We re on ajourney ...going home n we re getting rid of things heavy things to ease our journey ....we re in atrasition....while we get holy on de inside , we re to display it on de outside .....we re coming out of de world ....transforming to new being in Christ Jesus.....so make up ,jewelry ,fake hair ,fake nails ,etc are a distraction .....thesea foot holds ...they give de enemy room to hold onto us ...dats y we get rid of them

Yes amen to that, although heart posture was the reason why she stopped doing them. For some others, one can stop doing makeup and do all these things yet without the heart change. In those cases then, yes, that’s where your point comes in :)
