Great to see you back. You need to get a move on, mate, we've bought the worst house on a nice street, and I've got to do most of the work myself, I'm going to need you to do videos on kitchen fitting, installing a dormer window, building a wetroom and coming up with ideas on freestanding plillar taps for a slipper bath. Oh, removing and replacing an asbestos garage as well, while you're about it!

It's your personality that sells your channel. You can laugh at yourself when you mess up, come up with a good way to solve a pain in the ass problem, and make light of a crap situation that beats all of us up. You're everyman mate, and people relate to how you approach life. Not to mention the personal parts you have shared. Hang in there, you'll find your groove. Graham-Orlando

Hey Aiden, glad you are back! I use over ear headphones from Audio Technica. M50-BT or something. It's professional-ish audio equipment. I changed the leather pads from leather to fabric ones (leather is not compatible with my climate) with the coolant gel that keeps your ears slightly cooler. The sound isolation is perfect and I don't see why they should be less effective than proper ear defenders to be honest, but I never tried them while using a jackhammer eheh. Electronic gadgets seem super redundant these days, so it doesn't seem a good idea to me, but I know nothing about ear defenders and manufacturing such products. Maybe you could try to get a white label permission and have someone modify it. Seems more realistic than starting from scratch!

I am in the middle of renovating an old house (unexpectedly) and I'm treating it like my job as a software architect. I have a long-term vision but it needs to be manageable. Agile or KANBAN (both could use sprints) are great ways to have loose high-level plans, but also provide the ability to break work into small chunks in a flexible way. A workflow I often use is to have a large goal, perhaps it's to externally insulate my property as one of my goals, this is called and epic and has to be broken down into smaller tasks. I might have several of these epics that I'll write down as a list which is my backlog of work. I might scope some work for each epic such as description, research needed, known dependencies as this has with ordering i.e. do I need to extend my roof verge / overhangs first... Once I have a few weeks/ months worth of work in my backlog I'll start to do tasks like research (types of external insulation, render, perquisites i.e. verge extensions, guttering removal, resolving any damp, local contractors) and give a rough estimate of how long I think it would take to complete and roughly what cost, then I'll order my backlog to roughly correspond with the logical order the work should be done in. I then only work on one epic at a time until all the tasks are complete, otherwise my life would be taken over by the work. Once I've done all that I sometimes have enough time to actually do the jobs 😂. Time boxing tasks is essential. On a separate note it's comforting to see such detailed videos of similar issues I am facing, but knowing there are solutions to them that I can do myself stops a lot of stress and worry so thank you for all your hard work.

Hi Aidan, great video. I’ve not seen your channel but this video has drawn me in. I think you need research on the market size. The majority of KZbinrs seem enthusiastic about BT ear defenders but I am not sure the world outside is. Your biggest market is probably the trades, factories, warehouses etc so research if they are a thing amongst trades people. H&S may be a sticking point. Maybe ask a building college if you can go in and do some market research. You’ll probably pick up new followers too.

I started watching when you were installing the drainage system for your house. I think your channel will grow, but some channels take longer than others. Crazy ideal, but maybe there's someone studying video production and would film/edit your videos so they can also gain experience. Possibly do some behind the scenes stuff like a day in the life & maybe visits to trade shows. Just some random ideas..

I bought a pair of STIHL ear defenders, based on Keith's review. I don't use them very often, but they are great so far. One thing that seems to be missing in the ear defender market is modularity / user-replaceable parts. While you can end up being a bit "trigger's broom", it would be nice to be able to replace a busted speaker, or headband connector, or the battery, or upgrade the bluetooth, etc.

I came from Rag ‘n’ Bone Brown and for the house build but stayed for you. I relate to your views and take on life. You do you and the channel will grow. I am looking at ear pro and watch Keith’s videos as well as others. Personally my take on it is you’re never going to please everyone as people will prioritise different aspects of the product and believe their desires are the most important. Also people listen to different things so the sound from any speaker will favour a particular audio over another. Then you have the safety standards and how much meeting these limits what you can do / produce from the headphone side of things. Finally cost. For any decent hard wearing protective equipment there is going to be a decent cost to it and as you eluded to in the video technology moves on so how long will the product be relevant? Yes there is a market for a decent set of ear defence with Bluetooth / audio capability but is it worth the effort and outlay for testing, development and constant upgrades / improvements. Only you (and Kieth) can answer that I guess. Welcome back - you have been missed.

Stihl make a set of ear defender aimed at tree surgeons and grounds maintenance type workers, they're called stihl procom. we have the ones that fit onto our helmets but you can also get them headband style like the ones your using, they have every feature you could ask for. I'll let you do your research on them yourself but they may have beaten you to the post with them. Not to say a bit of competition isn't healthy but I would imagine it being pretty costly to put them into production, the only improvement I would make to them would be better speakers for music but they certainly arent crap. All the best.

Having a hear through function like what noise cancelling headphones have would be great, as metioned in another comment, as this saves alot of faffing when your in the zone. Something that I've tried to find on the market is childrens versions, for children in perticular who are autistic or ADHD, mine have in several occasions wanted both the luxury of blocking out loud noises (fireworks, arcades, themeparks) and also being able to use their devices when they become overwhelmed and need to self regulate, the hear through function on this would be great aswell

I have the Stihl as reccommended by Keith some years ago and I've found them excellent so far (2 years +). Battery lasts ages. Comfortable enough to wear for several hours at a time. Mostly listen to podcasts and not Pavarotti so can't speak for the audio quality. Not USB-C charging though. I just have a slot on my tool-wall for them and the charger is never moved from the socket next to it.

Aside from you growing your channel, I’d suggest that you’ve got to take this back to basics and start to enjoy making your vids again. BTW, I too email myself with ideas. Bluetooth headset; personally I’d want to be aware of what’s happening in the immediate area that I’m in. So I’d have a radio or music on in the space that I’m working. I’d only look at ear defenders to reduce the sound level. You’re an awesome chap and please don’t burn yourself out. 👏👌💪

Hey, good to see you back, but understand why you've not been around - got to look after yourself mate, can't imagine the stress of the weekly KZbin cycle. Anyway, I have the isotunes link Bluetooth ear defenders (Keith is not a fan!). No idea what Bluetooth version they use but they connect to my pixel 8 pro no prob. Generally really like them - they're robust, decent sound and very effective protection. Downsides are that they are heavy and such a complete fit around my ears that for long use it can make my ears very sweaty. I usually keep them just for workshop use and for normal every day use I just use my cheap headphones that have noise reduction and I find that pretty effective. I can be a bit casual about ppe though so maybe not measure against my standards! Hope that helps, and good luck if you go ahead with it!

For me I'm a self builder doing it all myself so i'm on my own, I only put ear defenders on when actually making noise so i might spend 20 mins cutting bricks or timber in a whole day. BUT i listen to music and Audiobooks (checkout your local library most do on line audiobooks now) all day so connecting to a set of ear defenders is a pain. What I have found is a comforatble pair of ear buds and a good pair of ear defenders that I put on for noisy stuff and i'm sorted for the whole day. I'm surpised not so see a set of ISOtunes in your line up as they are specificly aimed at this market.

I've got some isotunes Link 1, I like that they're comfortable, the bluetooth works fine for me (with pixel 6 pro), the sound quality is perfectly good enough for listening to podcasts and the volume level is fine (I believe the version 2 has a problem with this). I haven't broken them in 3 years of abuse and the band is big enough I can still wear them whilst using my axminster APF10 respirator. My main gripe with them is the battery life and the fact you get about half an hour warning if it's running low, I'd much prefer a 4 hour initial warning with another warning every time the remaining battery life halves. I.e. if you put them on and get a warning you can still do a half days work and plug them in over lunch. Wireless charging would be a great option as well. Good luck, it's certainly worth looking into but I expect you'll find the risk/reward ratio isn't favourable. Edit: A rotatable headband would be amazing as well!

IF I was in the market for a pair of defenders I would pick something that can fit comfortably under a helmet, can fit my whole ear into them not just press against them. Not sure if can be done BUT it would be cool if there was a hot button that would cut the bluetooth and hardwired audio and amplify the surrounding sound so wouldnt have to take them off or peel them back to listen to someone/thing. Yes usb charging would be nice but should be able to take standard AA batteries and the electrics should be able to detect this and not burn up if being accidentally charged. A built in FM radio would be nice too... and all for 49.99 delivered... 😅😅😅 so.... what about just blue tooth inner ear defenders??
