I totally understand this. Only reason i stick with panasonic/lumix (from gh5 to lumix s5ii & s5iix) is only because of the IBIS. Colours can be manipulated either way. I dont care about autofocus and crop sensor on 4k 50/60fps hahaha my wedding shooting style is 95% handheld 😁 Just my 2 cents.

Thats funny you said how we all started on a camera brand. I knew nothing about photography. My wife and I just had our twin boys and wanted to take pics of the 10 years ago. We saw a nice little red Nikon D3300 and bought that. Next thing you know I fell in love with photography and upgraded to a D7100, then D600, then D750. Almost switch to Sony to get the A7iii but I was already havliy invested in lenses. So I stayed. Now I own a Z6, Z6ii, and Z8. All my friends have all different brands and they all are great cameras. Its how you use them.

I shot on FX6/FX3 cameras always in Cine EI mode for all projects with no exception. From documentaries to commercials and even in challenging shooting environments like events. Not only Cine EI maximize all the sensor capabilities like dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio, it really helps maintain consistency in color and exposure settings across different scenes or shooting conditions, which is especially useful for projects with multiple shooting days or locations. With the low and high base ISO (800/12800) of Cine EI, the only thing you need is to use VND to control the light at all times and fast lenses to expose properly in low light. Works perfectly in any situation, image is always super clean that way. You don’t even need to overexpose in most cases. Only downside of Sony footage is that I find it sometimes a bit too sharp, the G Master lenses, which are great for AF, doesn’t help in that regard. But for solo operation they’re still your best bet. Cinema lenses like the Cooke SP3 makes a substantial difference though. Other than that, Sony’s Cinema Line cameras are truly amazing.

Canon has been great for me in filming weddings and some other projects but I have been needing more. In my opinion, the color science is really good and it takes great photos and video, However, Canon purposely holding back certain features and lacking in video features versus Sony has really made me looking to switch very soon. Oh, and don't get me started on their rf lens selection, their price, and 3rd party blocking. Sony is better in low light, has better video features, more picture profiles like S-Cinetone which has been godly convenient in some of my work, and more lens selections from different brands and they are all great. Don't get me wrong they both still have their own downsides but in my opinion the downsides on the Sony outweighs the Canons. Plus, around my area there are much more Sony videographers than Canon and it would be easier to work with those people when I need a second cam op or just to rent gear. Canon has been making small moves but I think it is too late now with what Sony has been offering. They should have listened to their customer fan base like Sony has been doing. I'm like Jake also, being in the Canon family has really bored me and my excitement has dimished but using something new like the Sony has made me more creative and pushed me to try new things.

I was recording a podcast and needed the autofocus, but now am transitioning to more creative/narrative work. Thanks for the vid, great explanation on your thought process. I believe that if you have a system that already works amazingly well and makes things 'boring,' that means you've reached the prime optimization for your setup. Now, you should just remain focused on building your business and improving in other areas besides the gear you have. That's just my two cents, but great video. You would shoot in log for the best dynamic range and with the FX3, you can get a clean output at iso 12,800 so it's amazing in low light. The times you might NOT want to use log is if you just want a quick turn around and don't want to bother with colourgrading.
@patriziodemitri7 ай бұрын
Shooting in log format is generally recommended for cameras that can record at least 10-bit color depth because it provides more color information, which is beneficial for post-processing and color grading. The Sony a7III, however, records video in 8-bit, which limits the color information captured.

Honestly neither is better then each other they both have their strengths and you really can’t compare just depends what kind of shooter you are tbh I’ve used both systems and both work just fine to me something that I love is internal nds tho gotta have that but not gonna lie we all know Sony is the king of low light but outside of that idk they both got pros and cons

For me after shooting on Canon for years and a RED, Sony just feels more optimized to Film video.

@@JakeWeisler that Sony is more optimized for video??? Than red? HA! External raw, no false color, goo scope, no shutter angle.. but Sony feels more optimized to video? You’re not even a fanboy at this point, you’re a glazer.
@JakeWeisler7 ай бұрын
@@ItsBerg wtf are you are talking about my guy. I’m a wedding videographer. It’s more optimized for MY PROCESS as a live event videographer. No DUH that RED reigns supreme, that’s an absolute given. But you’d be foolish to not say that every camera has pros and cons, and that the RED has cons that the SONY doesn’t and vice versa. Relax, don’t be so triggered so easily.

you want auto focus handheld crazy looking 120 fps commercial stuff get an a9iii people hire you just for that. they take you on. people don't hire here but as soon as word got out that my camera's on the way I started getting calls. your camera talks not that it matters.

Absolutely hate Canon colors, the way people make it muted orange and tan like everything is in the fuckin desert
@edwink07 ай бұрын
Wrong move. It's the lazy choice because of the AF and low light performance. We work in the wedding industry and have used all brands - no loyalties because we don't run a channel endorsing gear. Sony image is brittle and video-esque. Truth is you probably should use a combination of brands, relying on each brand's strength for different parts of the wedding day. FX3 is a great body and we use the FX30 for our wide shots but Canon is the stronger image. In fact, Sony is the weakest image of the top video brands. The noise and APSC argument are compelling but the image quality is inferior.
@JakeWeisler7 ай бұрын
I don’t have loyalties either, and this wasn’t a “lazy choice” if you watched the video at all. And I absolutely agree - part of this video that I actually cut out was a long rant about how there’s power in using multiple cameras with different strengths, with the only con being it might slow down your editing to match them (which is a small con). Lot of my friends have multiple brands in their arsenal.

Right now, we are actually in the process of building out an entire production house where we have Canon AND Sony gear. They both have strengths that are useful in different scenarios

You didn't consider the Panasonic/Lumix (L-mount) like the s5ii or s5iix? L mount alliance will pay off too, with DJI, BlackMagic and Sigma in the same group. but i guess everyone always debated between Canon and Sony, end of the day its the user, people these days are caught up following people based on what they see/hear, I like Panasonics, natural colour science and video centric features and tools it has, it's not even a cineline camera, but competes highly with FX3, since we have Opengate, shutter angle (which sony will release for fx3 soon), wave forms, vector scopes, it seems Panasonic have always focused on videographers mostly, It just the AF and low light in sony that people mostly want i guess.
@madmancasacreativa37 ай бұрын
i switched from sony to panasonic and couldnt be happier. The s5iix is a goddamn beast of a camera. It brought back the love as it was getting a little stale for me with the clinical look of sony cameras.

@@madmancasacreativa3 happy to hear that, I’ve got the s5iix and a gh6, and I’m fair have used canon and Sony, and I just find Panasonic to have always given us the video tools we needed, now s5ii and s5iix the AF is much much better and they even gave us the best firmware update last week so I’m very happy!
