As a professional detailer for the last 16 years, For the last 2 years my method to cleaning a vehicle is to pressure wash the entire vehicle and then use the foam cannon and then grab my wash mit i put over my hand and grab my pressure washer in the other hand. i have a short reach trigger, so i start cleaning one section at a time and then spray the mit down as it's in my hand, it cleans the mit and also adds more water to the mit. it's quick and easy

I’ve never understood why you would rinse then foam your car then rinse off your car and then two bucket wash then rinse. Just foam and contact wash at that point. I just did my minivan that way and had it washed and dried in 25 minutes and I’m 70 years old and this was so right! Thanks for verifying my thought!

Your logic is spot on..... However, the moment you put the wash mitt into the clean water you contaminated the clean water..... Perhaps its easier (and reduce cross contamination) to have 8...10... or 12 wash mitts so that you never have to use the same wash mitt twice!! ....
@JohnnyReno715 ай бұрын
True but don’t you think that once you move the mitt across the paint if you happen to pick up any contamination it just moves with the mitt all over the paint. Having 10 mits is expensive. Idk it does seem like it’s better. 🤷🏻♂️

I like the way you do it! I do a similar process but I foam the whole car and use 5-6 wash mitts with soap and water in a bucket, no need for a grit guard and toss the used ones in a empty bucket so there is no chance of any dirt getting back on the paint in case something gets trapped in the mitt. Separate wash mitts for separate panels of the car. 👍🏻👍🏻

K M idk, most wash mitts are pretty cheap. It’s the fastest and cleanest way! It’s still 2 buckets! After the wash you wash out the mitts and they are good for the next time. It also keeps the wash mitts much cleaner especially if you use different color mitts. In most cases 3 buckets will always be used. One for soap, one for rinse or empty for the used mitts, and sometimes one for the tires and wheels.👍🏻👍🏻

@@akaredcrossbow How do you wash your mitts really well?
@akaredcrossbow5 жыл бұрын
Jose Gap I wash out with high pressure garden nozzle! I also use a large detangling hair comb that has wide spaced bristles. I run that through the mitts gently when I’m rinsing/washing out. I have removed every other bristle on the comb so the comb has larger gaps so it can go through the mitts easily to agitate then rinse again. At the end of the day they are rinsed and agitated again and go into the washing machine with just a little car soap. On real filthy cars I have older dedicated mitts that are almost ready to get tossed so I use them. It all depends on how dirty the car is. If you rinse and foam the car properly you shouldn’t get the mitts that dirty. You can also rinse foam then rinse and foam again if it’s that dirty. It’s actually a simple, clean and fast way to do it when you get used to doing it. You can actually use 4 mitts as well if you think 5-6 is to much. One for the roof, windshield, hood and front. One for the rear glass, trunk and rear bumper. One for the side windows and mid section. One for the lower section. I also use dedicated mitts for darker cars. I know it sounds insane, but the least trouble I can cause the better.

I think this looks like a great method. With the 2 bucket method, regardless of how much your ring out the wash mitt/ pad; inevitably you will be carrying some excess water into the soap bucket. This in turn dilutes your soap concentration further. I’m seriously considering this new method.

What I do is rinse with my power washer. Foam cannon soak rinse then foam canon again then agitate then rinse and dry. And kinda uses less water since my pressure washer uses little water to get things moving

i do that too, so that I don't inadvertently move any of the dirt from the first foaming back onto the paint risking a swirl or a scratch. the first rinse takes those particle lifted by the first foam off the car, i then agitate the soap from the second foaming with the mitt

You missing out the two most important steps in my opinion. Snow foam is a prewash. Then i thoroughly jet wash it off with all the dirt that will cause swirling. Then wash the car with either the 2 bucket method or the way you have suggested. As you've only gave the car a quick wetting with the jetwash and then added foam on top you're just moving the dirt/grit around on each side/panel of the car creating swirl marks before then rinsing the microfiber sponge.

Finally! A wash method that is nearly guaranteeing 100% clean contact washing. But why not go a step further? Try 4 mitts in a bucket of your favourite soap/suds and an empty second bucket. Using top down, foam the roof, back, windscreen, bonnet (sorry hood for you in the US) and front get a clean soapy mitt and was down where you have foamed flipping the mitt for front and back. Put used mitt in empty bucket. Rinse where you have washed. Repeat for sides. There is no way you can introduce scratches. Lots of ‘lubicity’ with foam and soap too. I’ve tried it without the mitts being soapy, but it works better with the soap. Add Gyeon Wet Look and you have a clean coated SUV in my case in no Tim at all.
@RConradBane2 жыл бұрын
Correct me if I am wrong about this. The detergent in the bucket is as much to lubricate the wash mitt/pad/cloth as it is to lift dirt. The detergent also helps to trap debris and draw it to the bottom of the bucket. So, you're actually cleaning the mitt twice: once with water, a second time with detergent. If you deploy a grit guard in both buckets, the risk of damage seems remote, particularly if you pre-rinse/foam and degunk the paint. Additionally, if you are going to follow washing with something else abrasive, it seems like a moot point.

Rinseless has been the best thing. Of course some instances may call for soap, but rinseless is by far the most efficient. Foam cannon IMO is a lotta pomp and circumstance, but it makes sense if you are using soap methods. Also, it's a big mistake to pre-rinse a dirty car with high pressure water, water is a solvent, and your just push dirt WITH HIGH PRESSURE around the paint.... this is why a lotta ppl foam the cart first, dwell, then pressure wash off, to make sure the dirt is lubricated. If you're paint correcting, then who care, but if you're maintenance washing... well you should use rinseless to begin with! ha Saves way more time.

I'm alway prewash the car with an alkaline soap, let it work for few minutes, rinse, then foam it with a "regular" shampoo, two bucket method with two different gritguard in each bucket. Then I use two different washmit. One for the top parts of the car and one for lower parts. Why I sees it, the only lubricant you have is you're foam on the car and a demp washmit. When you dunk it in the rinse bucket, taking it up and twist it, you don't guarantee that it's clean. Yes you can't guarantee it's clean with the two bucket method either, BUT you still have one more bucket you can get some of the dirt left over in the washmit out thet didn't get off in the first bucket. And for det 2nd, you also get/have more lubricant with a good soapy water + the foam on the car. Regardless, I'm not saying you are doing anything wrong because it's many ways to wash car safely. I'm just skeptic on this way to do it, but since I'm living in Norway, the weather here it really harsh. But hey, many things can be discussed but I have learned many tings from you and you are doing a good job. :)

A car that you regularly keep a sealant or wax on. Makes getting the mud, dirt & salt off of the paint that much easier. Example. My wife did a road trip a week ago. Bugs all over the front bumper. Now 2 weeks prior. I had prepped the car paint & applied 2 coats of Meguiar's Ultimate Fast Finish. When I detailed her car. I rinsed the car off with my electric pressure washer. Lots of beading & sheeting of water. I was able to blast off bug parts on the bumper with my pressure washer. Now the bug blood or whatever was still there. I put Meguiar's Mirror Glaze #62 Shampoo in my Tool Daily foam cannon (made by Trinova). I foamed the whole car. Waited like 2 minutes. Started washing the car (I had 2 gallons of that car wash in a bucket with 7 mitts. I never reuse a mitt when washing the car that time). I started with the top/hood/trunk. Then I did left side. Followed by right side. I did the back of the car & front of the car last. By the time I got to the front bumper. The foam had already pulled off/away the bug blood mess. I was completely shocked. It was the first time I used a foam cannon. It made the whole wash experience a breeze with a ton of lubrication. I now have Masterson's Mystic Snow Foam on order. Way more economical in my foam cannon with far better performance. I'll be even more impressed the next time I do my wife's car. The key is once every 3 or 6 months. You need to have some kind of protection put on your paint. Makes cleaning very easy. Despite what mother nature throws at you. #FACT So don't post unnecessary comments. I know for a fact that a vehicle that has protection on it. Is extremely easy to clean in the winter after a snow storm. How you talking. Sounds like there's zero protection on your paint lol.

@theactualsalvagedrover3 жыл бұрын
The water in the soap bucket adds more of a “lubrications factor”, so that when you wash an area, the soap and water clean the contaminants, but the extra water of a soapy bucket flushed them down with gravity more effectively. When you used the mitt with the rinse water to clean the door and fender after you foamed it, you dunked it directly into your rinse bucket, contaminants and all. Then you wrung it out. If you then applied it to another section, there would be no extra water lubricant to flush more surface contaminants towards the ground. You also want to keep in mind that you’re changing your rinse water 2-3 times per wash, 3-4 times for a crew cab truck or suburban sized vehicle, and you’re hosing the bottom out between fills as well. Your method works fine, but you will always deposit contaminants into your rinse bucket either method, so foam first, then you two-bucket follow to complete the wash and clay is necessary, but the foam + 2-bucket is ideal, one without the other isn’t as thorough, especially with softer 2-stage or previously corrected paint. Also, I recommend the Gardena quick-connect system, and a DRAMM water breaker for rinsing, you can add a 1/4 turn shut off or a squeeze valve, but the dramm really flushes the surface with a full flow of water and allows you to visualize the surface while being rinsed to look for imperfections to address. If you’re washing a car, your way is faster, but when you’re detailing a car, moving faster and easier isn’t really a factor over the quality of a finished product.

I've never had a pressure washer and only recently got a foam gun. What I do is spray the mitt off with the hose and ring it out before putting it back into the bucket. The water in the wash bucket after a basic wash is clean enough that you'd never know a car had already been washed. I just washed a car that hadn't been washed in over two-years and the water in the bucket was only slightly discolored. Where a pressure washer speeds things up is knocking loose containinents off. This removes the dirt first and then you would go with the two bucket method after pre washing the car, by applying foam allowing it to settle for 5 to 10 mins so it can do it's job and then rinse off. There has been no contact at this stage and most dirt will be removed. From here you could then switch your foam cannon from a snow foam to a car shampoo to apply the product to the car without the two bucket method and then what you've described makes sense. You will definitely be causing scratching with your method

That's how i wash it, accept with thicker foam & pre foam first then let is sit for like 5-10minutes, rinse than proceed to this method.

Foam , rinse, foam then have a bucket of several wash mitts, when you change mitts everything is clean no chance of cross contamination . Seems anal but I can’t think of a better solution. The foam before the pre wash from Scott at DPC, multiple wash mitts from Brian at Apex. I’m certain Luke has talked about trashing the two buckets before, but that’s the fastest...safe wash I can think of. . May not work for the mobile guy doing several cars a day. I don’t do more than 2-3 a day ever and I’m not mobile and can wash them when done. Loving your videos, Aloha from Maui

Great vid! I actually use a foam cannon and then a two bucket method. I'm not a detailer so I do it that way because thats what I like to do. Also is it me or is your foam really runny?
@toddn.31235 жыл бұрын
I have a better solution were there is no dirt transfer in the bucket. 1. With a pressure washer thoroughly spray down the car to wash off as much dirt as possible. 2. Use a foam cannon attached to the pressure washer and cover the entire car. 3. Fill one bucket with a little soap and water to your liking. 4. Here the important step. Put in at least 4 washing mitts/foam pads into your soapy bucket. You want a least one pad/mitt for each the side of the car. Front, back, and each side.I personally use 5 as one of them is for just the wheels. 5. Now wash each side with one pad. Once the side is washed throw that pad into a empty second bucket. (NOT THE SOAPY BUCKET) 6. Rise the car and call it good. Why is this better? Obviously there is no need for a dirty guard as the dirty washing mitt/pad is only getting used once and never goes back into the soapy water. Your soapy water bucket is now just a place to get the mitt/pad ready to be used in 100% clean soapy water. The trick is to make sure you have a foam cannon so most of the lubrication is on the car rather than coming from the mitt/pad.

So I get this but before doing this do you still presoak the car in a foam to soften the dirt then rinse it off and then do what you just did because if you don’t then obviously your still just dragging the dirt around but yeah I get you have more chance of having your mitt coming into contact with dirt in 2 buckets than you do in just 1 bucket
@ws70023 жыл бұрын
Good Job Luke: Could never wrap my head around the two bucket method. Always runs the chance of grabbing particles from the grit guard. I use a system very similar to yours.
@TheSydguy30 Жыл бұрын
You know what is even better and faster? One empty bucket and 4 sponges, one for each side of the car (if you want more you can even have more) . That way you pressure wash off the car as normal, foam cannon, wash each panel and rinse off, you are done, never even have to mess around with a bucket of water. WAY faster and scratch free, because even dipping the sponge / wash mitt into the same bucket of water (even with a grit card or 2 bucket method) it is still in the same dirt water, just LESS dirty. The above way I've mentioned is the only way to prevent this (and as I mentioned way faster) and more water efficient as you are doing that anyways just without the extra bucket of water.

I have the same pressure washer, the 45° tip is better IMO for rinsing the car and getting it wet.
@pault4775 жыл бұрын
Yep ! No buckets needed ! I use about 4 wash pads. 1 for each section of the car. I refoam as needed. No rinsing of pad needed.
@dougarmstrong42044 жыл бұрын
I agree, used that method just yesterday on my car, great result. I do have the same pressure washer as well and I noticed you used the yellow tipped nozzle. I took the top layer of skin off a small spot on my hand with the white nozzle which is less concentrated than the yellow. It just seems possible there could be paint damage with the tip you are using. You are a great resource, thank you.
@claudiaschannel14692 жыл бұрын
This carries the same exact risk of contamination that the two bucket method does.... not sure how this is different. We hit with bug and tar remover, hit with foam cannon, let it lift while we clean wheels, then rinse with a pressure washer and piece out the car with a 2 bucket method. If you are using this instead of a two bucket method, you run the same risk of contaminants if not more so since you are using the same mitt over and over... this doesn't even make sense

GREAT VIDEO luke........i am doing it......without water on bucket just with myltiple wash mits...
@olasmalander5 жыл бұрын
The problem with this metod is that the dirt is still on the car when you start wash it with your hand, i prefer a prewash first then rinse it with high pressure washer then after that wash by hand and with that metod you dont get any scratch of the dirt ! That metod you done here gonna scratch a paint on a dirty car 100 procent

Great video Luke. I look forward to your impression of the Sun Joe. I am in the market for a new pressure washer in that price range.
@danparker63415 жыл бұрын
I've had that Sun Joe for about a year now...My guess is you will probably experience a little leaking where your water hose connects to the unit...not really a big deal...you can actually see it towards the end of his video in the background....The power cord is nice and long so you don't have to have the electrical outlet that close to the water supply...... but, if you do get one, the biggest suggestion I have is....change out the pressure hose. The factory one will kink and bind like there is no tomorrow...effectively limiting your range, and maximizing your frustration. I upgraded to a 50 ft. pressure hose. Again, if you purchase one, and swap out the pressure hose, you may as well convert to quick connects at both the inlet and gun ends....just a bit more convenient. Overall though, it more than gets the job done and I would certainly buy it again

I foam on dry panel so i don't accidentally push around dirt accross paint.... then after dwelling a few minutes rinse it off and re-foam, then go to town with contact wash.....i started doing MF towel method though, find it even quicker and 0 chance of any dirt left in mit.... then just chuck towell in dirty bucket after doing the 4 panels and throw them all in washer when done

If you want to speed it up and trying to be safe and at the same time safe a lot of soap solution, just put 2oz of your favorite soap into a 32oz spray with distilled water and have just one bucket with just water. Spray the soap solution into the washmitt and car and you will see the best outcome with the savings on soaps.
