I use a two bucket method, but I use four mitts. Two for upper portion of car and two for lower section. I start with the first mitt washing and about half way thru I flip the mitt over and wash the second half. Then go to bucket and drop off mitt and grab second one and repeat on second side. This way I always have a clean mitt.

Well if it's just a pretty clean car as the one he has waaaaay to many towels used...First off skip the glass...u can use paper towels and Windex or whatever for the glass.do whole side of car rt wheel qtr panel and door with one section of towel.Second door and back wheel qtr panel with second section of towel.then move to other side do the same.Thats one side of towel.Leave the bottom of each side of vehicles .Flip to other side...one section for hood...another section for trunk.Top of roof...which should be first section by the way.then I use last section of second side for front grill. Then I use a second towel to do bottom sections of whole car.Badda boom badda bang.I repeat this is only for a pretty clean car as in video though.

I’ve always done the two bucket wash but like you said it takes so long to scrub the mitt on the grit guards between both buckets before making contact again. Definitely switching to one bucket and ordering more mitts to make washing faster and easier. Do recommend still getting two buckets so you can toss the used ones in the other bucket then you can carry them to your washer to wash them when you’re done

Stepped away from the 2 bucket con 12 months ago. A good pressure wash and regular cleaning, and a good pre rinse and foaming is the answer. Chamois can cause swirls etc as well. Blow drying is a huge change, especially when your car is ceramic coated.

I think people get carried away with buying expensive mitts. You have so much soap and water involved that the minor differences in materials are flattened out in my opinion. Also, sometimes the mitt just needs to be tossed entirely (for example, if it falls into sand/dirt) and you'll be more likely to toss an 8 dollar mitt away than a 30 dollar mitt. Personally, money goes further with towels and product. For the mutli-mitt wash with a single bucket, I usually go cheap.

This is the exact method I’ve been using for years. First introduce by Garry Dean. It’s not only safer but actually *faster* than having to rinse mitts. And yes, using the chenille wash mitts is MUCH easier and easier to remember to use than MF towels. I actually avg about 8 Wash Mitts (front and back) for an entire car. Only other thing I would add is 1) foam prewash, 2) Rinse, 3) Foam again for lubrication 4) do NOT rise, but instead, start your hand wash mitts with one bucket method above. Lastly, I would recommend, keep track of which mitts hits the dirtier parts of your car (lower fenders, lower doors, bumpers) bc those mitts should be hand rinse or pressure rinsed before throwing in washer with your other mitts.

Colton, Ive seen others saying to do a foam first of the whole car BEFORE the typical first wetting or rinse. This will provide a lubricant per se instead of blasting a dirty car with 1 or 2000 psi water. Once the initial foam is rinsed then reform and hand wash via the one bucket method, Please share your thoughts and thanks in advance.

I think this begs for a comparison between this method and the standard one. And I might add significantly its critical that the surface has been maintained and is in a hardened condition that will shed water. Most people are oblivious to this. Its becoming a lot more popular with ceramic extenders. I used bead it up. But there are others that are plenty good. And I might add dont wait until the car is filthy. A regular washing is mandatory. I do it every three weeks or so because I just dont drive that much any more now that I am retired. Soo. If you wash regularly, use a ceramic extender. do a good prewash and apply a good coating of high quality soap with a sprayer and then use the stardard two bucket system, I really dont think you are going to see a difference. I also use a high quality pro air blower and this leaves an absolute mirror finish if there was one before. Just my two cents.

Oc detailing has a good rinseless wash tutorial. I goto a manual car wash to rinse my truck off to get the big stuff then come home and do rinseless wash in the garage of my apt.

Noting that you use a foam cannon - does the wash bucket with the multiple mitts have soap in it, or just water?

Soap in the bucket as well.

Foam, with the car DRY (why blast the crud of it). Then pressure wash rince. Then re foam and then a bucket wash over the foam (max lubricity). Then use how ever many mitts you want.. But as far as I'm concerned, if you gotta trash a mitt it means your pre wash/foam is not doing it's job. Of course, its a two bucket method. And I don't have masses of mitts to dry!

You do indeed. I rely on the foam. Especially the first dose. Gotta admit, my process is not fast.

I just use 1 bucket for the body then use the remaining soap for the wheels with a different cloth.

I like the strategy, but living in Florida I worry about sand in the laundry from kid clothes will become embedded in the towel after a wash and scratch the paint. I use the two bucket method right now with the folds, and when done wash and reuse the towels for in the house.

You don't even need soap or 2 buckets. Just use ONR or something similar.

Technically it's a 2 bucket technic. We can see them :-). Great video. It kills me to see people using those hash deadly automatic car wash.

The 2 bucket method never made sense to me. This one bucket method is what I've always done. With a small car like the model 3 you can do the whole thing with 2 pads, especially if it's ceramic coated and kept fairly clean.

I think we're all starting to get to a point where we are over thinking the process. When ever we use a pressure washer even to wash off pre foaming on a panel we are forcing micro dirt out of the foam at the panel and causing micro scratching. When taking a mitt or other media dunking it in a clean rinse bucket, wringing it and putting it into the product bucket, the suspended particles we pick up on the mitt are microscopic.. and ultimately less of a problem than the pressure washer is causing. You will never eliminate scratching the clear coat. Although I love the time and effort you've put into the theory, it's becoming overkill. In truth most customers would never notice micro scratches from the wash process. I've not had a customer yet go over the paint with an inspection light.

Hehe i never worry about scrathes or mitts or bucket methos :) i use 1 micro fiber to was and 3 for drying. İ never get swirl marks or scraches cause i PPF'ed my car ;). İts self healing, with sun, all micro scrathes goes away:) soo imho stop investing in buckets amd mitts etc, just go with the ppf

What about washing 5 cars in a row ? you would either need over 1k in mitts or have to wash the mitts and wait for that to be done between each car. Great if only one car is being washed at the time.

Sure but if you have a business, it will pay for itself rather quickly based on efficiency, etc. and can probably be justified easily. I think the average person detailing their own car at home won't have this issue.

@@v8tergt653 I bet. But that’s where your time is worth a certain $ amount and maybe buying a bunch could be worth it based on how much time it saves, etc. In your instance though, maybe other options would be better too compared to this method. Either way, enjoy driving/riding :)
