The FG Knot is my new favorite knot to tie. In my opinion, it is definitely the strongest braid to fluorocarbon leader fishing knot out there. In this video, I will talk about why and how I tie the FG knot. Rate, Comment and don't forget to Subscribe.

This knot makes me want to drink. I have short fat fingers and it is hard for me to tie. What works for me is securing the tag end of the braid to something to keep the line taught and using both hands to wrap the fluorocarbon. I also make my leader a little bit longer in case I break off at the hook. I am also a member of the salt strong nation and Joe does a great job explaining this knot. best of luck on your next tourny and keep the videos coming. Me I am off to Watts Bar Saturday then to Guntersville on Sunday

i also used to tie an albright knot also and one day learned to tie the fg. went out fishing and realized how much better the fg is than any other connection knot ive ever used. the manageability of slipping through your guides easier. not having to deal with wind knots as often and breakoffs. This knot is by far the best in my opinion and will never use another connection knot! Great video mdj!

I was like you too. I didn't jump onto the bandwagon until I needed a knot that would throw on the first cast into breaking BLUEFIN TUNA (they are very fast). From my bass fishing experience into saltwater the FG is far superior however most time consuming. It took me over 2 years to truly master it, maybe I'll show you mines one of these days too because surprisingly I'm still learning new things about it! Caught 2 (70lb.) Bluefin already and countless fish on light line. YOU THE BEST MARK DANIELS JR. Huge fan!! (SO CAL 714 GUY)

Great knot. Use it for tarpon, snook, redfish and bass down here in Florida. Will not break! Only difference I do is wet the knot and pull tight before trimming any tag ends. This ensures that it’s cinched down tight and no slippage. Good vid!👊🏼

Thanks Mark. That video is how I learned the knot too. After I tied it my first time I tested that knot against several others and tested stronger than the others. That guys site Salt Strong also has a knot test on it and the FG beat every other knot in their test too. I tie 22 plus 3 half hitches, then 3 more after I cut the tag. But then I dab a little bit of Mend it on the knot. Some people do super glue but most of us have mend it or some other soft bait fixer in out tackle box already so I just use it instead. I always end up cutting the knot off to tie a new leader because my leader was too short to use anymore. Never had this knot fail.

I tried the fg knot, work,s but takes long time to tie, showed me just how bad my arthritis is,lol i use the alberto knot [,Braid to Fluorocarbon Knot | ] much faster and easier; and if you break that knot, you got a big S on your chest and you clank when you walk,,lol,it also is thinner and slides threw the guides better IMO,,l love the merthiolate trick worm on fork, great call, you really kicked butt,it works here on the griffin side of the harris chain too, when you gonna show wheels how much better garmin is than the other 2 he,s using, lol, glad to see you do so well, keep up the great work,

You are right the fg knot is the bomb. One thing though, and I hope you read this, make sure after your first set of overhand knots before u cut your leader that you pull that knot really tight before cutting. The knot tightens up and it is possible to slip very slightly then cut your tag and tie remaining overhand knots. This is also amazing at saving money when u want to throw straight fluoro. I put braid on all reels then will spool 50 yds or so of fluoro to save money as opposed to full spool fluoro.

Awesome job Mark. I was using the crazy Alberto but twice now I have lost fish on the hook set because the knot gave way. This will be my new knot. You really need to have a super strong knot when setting the hook in 2 or 3 feet of water and only maybe 10 feet away from the dock or lay down. The force that a hard hook set generates is so much greater than what I could test it by hand. Thanks again Mark.

Its the best knot ever. A few things I do in addition to the way you tied the knot: 1. After I do my wraps I tie one half hitch on both the braid and floro and then I pull both line to set the knot. 2. After I tie my half hitches on both line and my half hitches on just the braid, I then tie a rizutto finish which helps come through the guides better and does a better job of keeping the line from unraveling. Doing this I have never had the FG knot to fail me. Ever.

I just started using this finish on my fg knot and really like much better than the half hitch finish. Like he said though you have to tighten the knot as tight as possible after one or two half hitches. Once it’s “set” then I tie one more half hitch and trim the flour as close as possible. The I tie a few more half hitches around just the braid and finish with the rizzuto finish (I think it’s just a nail knot).

Mark, you are a good man. And you hang out with Wheeler, another good man. You have that knot come undone one one good fish and your gonna get pissed at that knot. WHEN YOU DO, go look at how to tie the GT knot. It’s easier, and has NEVER came undone AND CANNOT COME UNDONE. By the way it’s stronger than the fog not. Just look it up on KZbin. Cause I’m gonna laugh if it’s on camera😂. I’m old n fish with limber sissy rods more today, cause I’m more interested in the fight than the catch like when I was young. Look it up it’s easier to tie in the wind and stronger. Science proved it. Love your videos by yourself and with Wheeler. Be safe😊👍

I’ve been tying the FG Knot for a couple of seasons now and I’m thoroughly impressed with it. I have noticed that when I tie it with some of the slippery braids I’ve had failures. I would like to see a video on if the braid makes a difference on knot consistency. It’s possible that every now and then I tie a knot that doesn’t hold, but I seem to only have a problem with certain rods.

SaltStrong is the best. good group of local guys down here in fl with a ton of knowledge. completely changed my saltwater fishing. I tie the FG also, and I do 4 opposing half hitches, but after I trim the tag for the leader, I make 10-15 wraps through the same loop with the braid as if tying a uni, then reverse it around the line and cinch it to make it streamlined. A little unnecessary but helps reduce wear when casting through guides. it has a name I just don't know it

I've been using this knot for nearly two years now and, like you Mark, I will not go back to another line to line knot. Not that hard to tie and extremely thin and strong. And like Korey Bailey mentioned, I top it off with a rizutto finish (which is basically a whip finish knot used in fly tying)... its an extra step, but a great way to guarantee that the knot will not come unraveled.

Hi Mark, good demo. Salt Strong has good demo's as well. Certainly worth following. For connection knots, my experience I have gone from Blood knot, to Uni-to-Uni and now settled with the Lefty Kreh leader knot. I honestly haven't noticed a strength difference, but feel that the Uni-to-Uni has the smaller profile. I've tried the FG knot, but haven't found any advantage so far. But of course that's my experience, not a judgement of others. The Lefty Kreh leader knot is simple, fast to tie, and I prefer when fishing out of my Kayak. Good luck on the rest of your year!

I use and have used the FG knot for a couple years. I tie it exactly like MDJ, except I pull my knot tight prior to the half hitches. As an extra insurance, I add a drop of superglue to the half hitches, once trimmed. You will never have one come untied if you do this. Over time, the cut end of braid frays. Once those frays make their way up into the half hitches (could be days of fishing), the half hitches start coming undone. Once the half hitches come undone, the knot is toast. Superglue prevents any chance of this. It also makes the knot super smooth. I tie 4-5' floro leaders to 10lb braid (for redfish, trout, snook, etc) and use that same leader for weeks, until it gets too short from cutting off lures or spots that have been frayed by teeth, rocks, docks, etc. Some say "you shouldn't have to glue a knot for it to work" or "this knot takes too long". I tie one knot that takes 90 seconds per rod a month.....they spend way more than 90 seconds per rod, tying other knots multiple times a month.

I use this knot on all my rods....spinning and casting...a couple more tips to make this knot stronger... 1) after you tie the first one or two knots, pull the flouro and the braid really tight and you will notice the knot will darken and makes it much stronger and really reduces the chances of it coming undone 2) after you finish all your half hitches cut your braid and leave a little tag (small) and use a cigarette lighter and glance it against the tag and it will curl up against your main knot and it wont fray...you will notice after fishing this knot for sometime the tag will start to fray if you dont do this and ive seen the knot try to unravel after several tourneys...guarantee this helps ALOT

Two dang hard to do on the water but I’ll keep practicing. Still using tried and true uni-uni for fluro to braid or mono to braid.

Everyone says this but I’ve not had to re-tie this on the water. I tie longer leaders and the the fg never breaks, even when I get hung up, the flours breaks. Then I just re-tie my lure or whatever and keep going.
