Last month, I had a bad motorcycle accident here in Connecticut. A driver made an illegal U-turn right in front of me, cutting me off, and I crashed head-on. I ended up in the hospital with a broken arm, back pain, and a messed-up ankle. I’ve been recovering since. My bike, a Ducati Monster 1200s, was completely totaled. For a few weeks after the crash, I was put off motorcycling, but now I'm itching to ride again. This time, though, I’m thinking about going for a lower-powered scrambler. At 60, I think I’m done with sports bikes.

Nice storytelling video with a little retro film style. I used to have a GS500E too and I used to be on that GSTwin website as well. I rebuilt the bike after it sat outside for many years as I was an apartment dweller with no garage as the time. I replaced every single chrome nut and bolt, until it looked like new. New chain, sprockets, handlebar, Racetech springs, new fork seals, turn signals, mirrors, brakes, tires, ect. She shined like new when I was done. Then a jealous neighbor at the apartment, smashed it to pieces the next night. I only rode about four miles on it, after the complete rebuild, and then it was totalled. The police told me it was just between me and my insurance company, but I didn't have comprehensive coverage so it was a total loss. They smashed the gas tank, slashes the tires, cut all the fuel lines ect. What a shame. I still owed $2400 to my credit card for the parts and labor too, on a bike that I bought for just $3999 OTD when new. Mine was the midnight blue color. Ah well, I have more resources now, so I've owned many bikes since then, including some land missiles, but I did love my GS. Thinking about a Scrambler now. Cheers!

Congratulations. Its funny, I just started riding again at age 72 after 50 years off. I have a 2002 T100 that just cleared the run in miles. I too was taken by the scrambler 900 when I was looking for a bike. I remain smitten with it. It is a lovely bike and particular in my area of rural Vermont which is full of good dirt roads. We shall see. So far my T100 is holding on to me pretty tight. There was a yellow version exactly like yours at our local Triumph dealer show room. Enjoy. You have landed on your bike it seems.

@@BugMotoChannel Not my cup of tea, but I do see the reason for the appeal. Very classic retro look. My T100 is a gold line edition. Other than the side covers, (which I dislike), I am very happy and content with the bike. I replaced the gold line side covers recently with plain back T100 covers. Much better. Honestly, given the time and effort to become adjusted to a bike, I can't help getting attached. I do agree though, it is really about the riding experience.

50 years off, welcome back 👍😁 I’ve just come back from a 40 year break. 1984 I crashed and wrote off my bike, bought a car and not been on one since. Late last year I picked up my new Scrambler 900 identical to the one in this vid, [having had hip surgery a few years ago I wanted a bike that was easy to ride that a beginner could ride around town but still be fun on the country roads and also capable of keeping up with traffic for a short run up the motorway/freeway. I absolutely love it, ‘it does everything that is said on the tin’ [it’s a small easy to ride bike with a big powerful torquey engine and everything i needed to find my feet on 2 wheels again] In the evenings I am using it around town in the city, beat the traffic and park anywhere. On the weekends I am running it out of town to cruise around the country lanes.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Scrambler 900 ownership, and thank you, thank you for selling my bike to me again, when truth be told I've been letting my eye drift towards the temptation of something new. You know that feeling, that "I've owned this motorcycle for a while, there's nothing wrong with it but oh look at this shiny new one" feeling? I've been sitting with that feeling a while, the lure of Triumph's Scrambler 400X becoming ever harder to resist. Only today, I popped to the Triumph day at London's Ace Café, parked Tallulah, my white 2019 Scrambler 900 slightly too close to a 400 that the local dealer had brought and found myself with that itch again. And then I came home, and there was this video, and watching it, hearing your excitement at the start of your new adventure, well it reminded me of my first few rides, and, well, I'm sorry Tallulah for letting your shiny little cousin draw my eye, it won't happen again. As for luggage, don't worry too much about that high pipe, I've dropped you an email with a photo of two of Tallulah all loaded and ready to go, I hope it helps. Enjoy your cosmic yellow, she's a beauty, but just so you know.... ....the white ones are faster 😉

This is not just the another video on youtube about Motorcycle. Its the Motorcycle Film where the true motorcycle lover is talking about all the things about his love ( scrambler 900). And I dont know somehow I am relating to every thing he's saying. Sometimes I wonder what we men would do if motorcycle was never invented. I am 23 and actually I dont have a motorcyle at the moment ( financial crisis) but I fell in love with motorcycle when I was kid. Ever since then I have always been around motorcycles and when I got old to enough to be able learn the motorcycle I learnt it right away and got the license and I may not have a motorcycle but I feel privileged to have so many great people around me who always let me ride their bikes seeing my passion and love for two wheels. I have already ridden many motorcycle of different category despite not having one. Whenever there is a chance I ride ( test ride provided by the company, friends motorcycle, renting a bike). But still I can't wait to have that one machine and love it with all my soul and start my actual motorcycle journey, And hey BugMoto Motorcycles you just earned the new subscriber.

I have the identical bike in the same colour, When I picked up it up end of last year I was a little bit disappointed with the engine and exhaust sound. [seemed a little bit higher pitched / tinney, than the deep rumble of others I’ve seen] But having run the engine in - the exhaust sound seems to have deepened as the engine has loosened up. It sounds best when you are cursing in 3rd gear between 30 and 40MPH and then open it up to accelerate, the power and torque kicks in and gives a real satisfying rumble for the exhaust.

I get it 😊. My previous Triumph was a 2021 T100. For financial reasons, it had to go - replaced by a 2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350. My wife and I ride together a lot and the Classic 350 is surprisingly capable with pillion. What it's not so good at is the long haul. A few weeks ago, we began our search for another T100 to complement the Classic 350 but were really struggling to find one in good condition for our budget. The 2017 T120 came up literally for T100 money and was immaculate. We certainly appreciate the extra oomph and the 6th gear makes for a very relaxed ride on the highway. But, we really do only use it's full performance a fraction of the time. The extra weight and gyroscopic mass of the twin front discs means it's a little lardy though and it has to be muscled into corners. The 900 Bonnevilles are a real sweet spot with regard to handling and performance. The fuelling from the single throttle body is flawless and it's a lot easier to ride smoothly in town. The combination of our two bikes though is ideal and our particular T120 is gorgeous. If we were buying new though, it would've been another T100 😊

I love the lower compression motor so I can use low test if I want .. With 56 MPG the range is around 170 miles a tank .. Lots of bumpy back New England farm roads and dirt and gravel .. A few trips a year up to New Hampshire but mostly local Litchfield County CT riding ... It is a wonderful bike .. If I wasn't so cheap I might have gotten Oleans suspension but the bigger foot pegs and my knees seem to do most of the job ... I have been riding since the late 1960's and I don't think I have ever had a bike I enjoyed more.. Yours Guy

The weight of bigger engines on the one hand and, on the other, the fact that anything above 40 hp IS VERY ADEQUATE!!! Unless you’re riding two up for long distances on high speed West Texas speedways and going up the Rockies with luggage all full. You almost never *need* 90 HP. Lighter bikes are easy to pick up, easy on your joints, tire you less on long rides, are more confidence inspiring on gravel etc., and just as much fun. It is stoop-ID to insist on “mine is bigger” for horse power.

For highway commutes I use my sport bike, but the Scrambler is very comfortable for all types of riding. It's so comfortable I am thinking about trading my sport bike for the speed master. Triumph just makes excellent bikes. Well thought out.

The way you talk about your love for the 900 is how I feel about my Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. It's fun and sexy and does more than I need it to. I've been up to 105mph just to see and will not go there again because I love twisting thru the back roads 50, 60. Originally I had my heart set on the 2020 T120 SE. I got to ride both back to back and the INT650 just spoke to me, I could feel this would be the fun bike to ride. Not just something to propel me mile after mile. It is me. I like the way about you. (I tried to say that a different way but it just felt the way I meant it)

Small world! As a multi-bike owner, I can help you with your conscious. It has nothing to do with practicality. Practicality is what got you to the place where owning more than (fill in the blank) is possible. The idea is not to maintain course but to have your second or more so in my case, my first childhood. And to have it unleashed, off the hook, wild and loose, carefree, and full of bliss. The answer to how many motorcycles should one own the answer is always, one more. I didn't ride for a long while, my location made it unwise, as in I probably would've been run over. My wife asked me why I ride motorcycles every day as long as the ice has been removed from the road. My answer, straight from my heart was, because it's the only thing in my life that I know will bring me joy every time without fail.
@BugMotoChannel5 ай бұрын
Yup, that's my answer too. As for practicality... I have a one-car garage, so that's really a limiting factor at this point.

Wow. Huge congrats on the bike. Had a seat on one at the dealer yesterday and love it. I was on the verge of buying a Vespa 300 but have just ordered a Scrambler 400x. Due to pick it up at the end of the month. Hope you have many good times on it. Enjoy!!!

Another excellent video. Happy birthday to your mom. As for the new bike. Omg excellent choice. I could hear your gears going in your head on the 400 demo video. My best friend (we are both old farts 64 years old) bought a speed 400. I used to have a T100. But I ride a Kawasaki KLR. I love his 400 but seemed a bit small for me. I was going to tell you that. Going from 1200. But this new 900 is amazing. Better sound and visceral effect than a T120. I like them so much so that I’m currently negotiating a deal with my dealer for a new Speed 900. I’ll keep you posted. Love the channel, love your new bike. Excellent choice.
@BugMotoChannel5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! Yeah, there's definitely a visceral effect here that I wasn't quite getting with the T120, and I really dig it. Though I haven't ridden one, I have a hunch the Speed 900 might be THE perfect all-around bike... At least a close second to the Scrambler. :)

@@BugMotoChannel the scrambler does have way more character and better looks than the speed. Something very Steve McQueen about it. It’s just a beauty. I saw one exactly like yours at my dealership and it stood out stunning. Sold however and the deal we are working on with the speed will cost me a lot less. But I got to say, that bike in that colour is spectacular. I’m looking forward to future videos. Great work. Thanks from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦.

@@BugMotoChannel Several years ago I sat on the Street Twin, now Speed 900, intending to buy one and also thinking it might be THE perfect all-around bike; however, the dream died instantly when I discovered how crouched the seating was. I'm 5'10" with a 31.5" inseam and my legs were too uncomfortably folded up at my age of 59 at the time. The Street Scrambler, now Scrambler 900, was much better and would've been a viable riding option but it didn't quite fit into my riding needs at the time.

Congratulations! What a beautiful piece of machinery. I am a big Triumph fanboy and I used to have a Scrambler of the previous generation. That was the 865 cc air cooled twin. Loved that bike and there were only two things that I was not so excited about, heat coming from those high pipes in stop-and-go city traffic on hot summer days, and the overall weight. Eventually I sold it a few years ago, but I still miss that bike. And then two months ago I almost bought a yellow 2024 Scrambler, exactly like yours.😄 It did not happen because I took a different path at the very last moment. However every time I see a Scrambler, I just have to admire its beauty and I keep thinking, well, maybe next time... I agree with you, having two bikes is the optimal number for me too. Anything more and then you have some of the bikes neglected, which is a shame. That is why I keep my stable at two, but because of that I do not have a GTS in bianco innocente that I also like so much. BTW, that is how I found your channel even though I never had a Vespa. Anyhow, enjoy your new ride, and keep up with both channels, your content is great. Cheers

Nice bike! I have the 1200 scram and my luggage consists of the factory pannier, with a factory tail bag. Plenty of room for everything needed for a couple nights with that setup that I don’t find I need a second pannier on the right side
@BugMotoChannel5 ай бұрын
How's the quality of the factory pannier? It looks like the whole thing might be made by SW-Motech, which if so, is a very good thing....
@christopherwilliams68545 ай бұрын
@@BugMotoChannel I think it’s rather stout. Not sure who makes it, would make sense if it was SWM. It seems different from their bag (bigger), and the bracket is a little larger as well. It’s the same factory metal as the bike, so looks “factory” in my opinion. I have seen some straps weather in the sun on pictures online, but I store the bike in the garage so no worries there. The bag locks onto the rack with a knob behind the waterproof liner, so mind that so the bag doesn’t come off inadvertently. I quite like it. There’s a great review on KZbin by a British guy who has this sarcastic take on the bag, but in the end declares it brilliant, and I would agree with his assessment

1:01 Hi and congrats on your new bike. For luggage I use ventura frame and bag or two zipped back to back. Made in NZ but do a search I think they have an online shop. I have this on my CB11100EX. The bags I use are two Delta bags. For your bike they have the new evo pack system. "Ventura bike" will get you there.

Breaking in a 400 is even more challenging. With my Himalayan Scram 411 I would get it up to 5th gear as quickly as I could and not exceed 50 mph for the first 300 miles. And I still had to take it easy until 1200 miles.

I went from a 900 Street Twin to a T120 for two reasons. The larger fuel tank capacity, and the 1200 has a 6 speed where the 900 has a 5 speed. The 900 has tons of character, i love the sound, but the increased range and gear make the T120 a better option for someone who uses their bike as a means of transportation opposed to a toy. A factory T120 may seem a little dull in comparing the exhaust note, and the style, but with a couple mods they come alive.
@BugMotoChannel5 ай бұрын
Yeah the fuel capacity of the 900 Scrambler is really kind of a bummer. That, and the tubed tires, are really my only two serious gripes at this point. But I knew both going in so I can’t really complain. I really don’t miss the sixth gear though. So far, anyway.
