11:50 personally I train purely for hypertrophy most of the time, and lately, it’s seeming like all things come back to creating momentum. The same way you can be beginner intermediate or advanced with compound lifts, you can def be categorized similarly for Pressdowns, extensions etc. You get to a point with hypertrophy training where you need to pull back weight and titrate up to a heavy set of 10, just like with strength training where you need to pull back to lighter percentages and build up to a heavy single. Example if you’re doing objectively really heavy weights for isolations or accessories, you’re not going to be able to just repeatedly push double progressions at a static load. Doing strict skull crushers with a fuck ton of weight is going to beat the fuck out of you if you don’t start to treat it more like a bench press in terms of periodization Only difference is that you build up to a rep pr and the training cycles are shorter since the objective loads are smaller

Hell yeah man. I've backed off my lower body volume and intensity and focused on what "feels right" and I feel connected to and everything is going better. Just like runners talk about the importance of zone 2 training, same for strength training. That easy base work is magic.

Hey Brendan, Been following you for a while (aesthetic strength days) and always appreciate how you have been a pioneer of a lot of ideas in fitness. Still remember when your foam rolling came out and now it’s common knowledge that you don’t need to foam roll for 30minutes before a workout. The title and content of your video really challenged me. I’ve always been someone who’s trained really hard, to the point of burning out and having to do forced deloads. Could you go more in depth into your “training lazy” method? Amongst the Mike mentzer/Dorian yates style training that is popular at the moment it would be very refreshing to hear your POV.

Hm some very interesting points on the train hard take. I definitely think you have some merit about using focus and intent as the main drivers, setting up the right program with proper weight selection, and just let the progress happen with great execution rather than trying to run through a brick wall.

Totally the same experience with working hard ^^ I can do it for a few weeks but the longer I do it the longer the burnout lasts ^^ I'm kinda addicted to working as hard as I can every single day bc it feels so good to give everything I have. But it only makes sense if you do it smart, which is not possible most of the time xD After all, humans aren't designed to be at extremes all the time. Instead, I try to be as focused and as passionate as possible bc that can lead to lifting heavier loads in a set and at the same time reduce the need for recovery bc being focused reduces the chances of having to grind or time under tesion in general or even the stress on the cns. You mention meditation: I think its potential is still very much unknown. In fact, apart from rest, most of my regeneration comes from meditation. Even more than calorie surplus, I'd say. Sometimes my meditation is so good that I can train hard the next day after completely wrecking my body, while at other times I need 3-4 days rest after such a hard workout. So it can definitely be a factor, but for most people it's a bit unpredictable. Another factot is instinct imho.

You seem like a very intelligent guy...and your approach seems a lot like from the reactive training system. I read this book now and is interesting to see the importance of autoregulation and recovery aspect of training

I don’t mind music during training, I just mind your choice of music 😂 Sorry Coach! But that’s a small part to look over when getting the best powerlifting content on youtube 💪🏻

If most train very close or to failure with good form. You just need less sets to progress as much in muscle mass as by doing more sets. For maximizing strength gains it’s a bit different. Totally agree with your take. You can train hard or for long but not both at the same time or you’re gonna burn out. Definitely agree with that.

Alternative video title: "I am still the most modest dude in the world." On those high bar warmups, another good activation method is breathing squats, where you go down, take 10 deep inhale-exhales (credit to Greg Nuckols).

I'm going to have to try beltless SLDL. I really suck at SLDL, but I'm practicing it more often. Absolutely harder than a RDL. How on earth would it be easier?

Do you think its possible that the potent anti inflammatory effects of the weed could perhaps negatively effect hypertrophy gains?

Man , weed affects me extremely hard as well. It’s giving the craziest visions especially when I close my eyes. Can you please like give me some recommendations about meditation? Like how when. I mean how to combine it with the Mary Jane. I’m very sympathetic nervous system driven. Caffeine changes my mood , mindset and can even give me a headache and affect my sleep big time. Music gives me goosebumps and etc. Discovered cannabis like year or two ago ( I’m 29). There is a difference in recovery for sure

Sensitive is good. It’s hard being sensitive and society will give you shit over it but you’ll soon realize you’re in tune with deeper realities. My philosophical world view derives partially from Neoplatonism and the idea of forms. I fully believe in a 3 part reality that Penrose and Jung/other geniuses in their fields provide evidence for. When you’re sensitive you’ll interpret that information through visions like you’re experiencing on weed because our brain filters information. If you read into quantum physics more and study Donald Hoffman/Penrose etc you’ll see it’s a gift. With that said I’d highly recommend meditating especially on singularity. Meaning a breath focussed meditation. Start with Sam Harris app waking up. It’s free in the beginning and he has a beginner course. It’ll help level you and then come back to me and I’ll provide more info

Can you provide rationale on your foot flare especially on narrow stance? That is a lot of flare, thanks.
@BrendanTietz Жыл бұрын
I have videos covering this, in short I have retroverted hips. Everyone has very individual hip anatomy and there’s no objective measure for neutral due to the anatomical variance in hip capsule space and femur rotation. My neutral is slightly out, thus what looks like excessive flare isn’t subjective to my structure. KZbin is just watered down info so everyone believes in generalities for various technical positions. You can test this with a hip scour and rotational test

Due to time constraints I will reduce my squatting frequency from 3 days a week to only one day a week. Do you think I still can make decent progress ? I am barely intermediate btw.
