They're also TINY, perfect for travel. And nice to have the option to shoot on film as well with the same set you're already carrying.

100% on the money with this video. I have the Voigtlander Ultron 28mm f2 ii and the Voitlander Ultron 35mm f1.7. I use them on my Fujifilm cameras now and plan to adapt them to the GFX 50R next. Then, when I'm ready to throw my money at a Leica M body, I'll have a fleet of lenses 😂

That 35 1.7 if you have the m mount and not the ltm mount version, is soo sooo good. I have it too and got it for $300. It's hard to come bay and have as far as I know been replaced by the 35mm f2 Ultron which is 95% the performance and has a better size and use but not as fast either.

I appreciate your video Luke. I have the GRiii and the GRiiix and as far as digital is concerned I’m happy with both. As i get older and perhaps better at photography bringing smaller cameras and lenses are considerably more appealing. Personally i started out using Zeiss lenses on my multiple leica film rangefinders and now use Summicrons across the board. Its not just the exceptional image quality alone but the size of the lenses and sheer comfort and ease of manual focus. You don’t need to move a focus box around, the focus point doesn’t stick on some random subject and it becomes easier the more you manual focus. Thanks Luke.

Thanks for the video. In addition to your reasons, I like the differences and surprises in the rendering of manual lenses.

Luke - I totally agree with you about the quality and performance of M Mount lenses. It’s nice that we live at a time of mirrorless bodies where we can use adapters to enjoy them. The user experience is at another level. I shoot with Nikon, Fuji, and Leica cameras. You mentioned that you’re not interested in a Leica rangefinder, but I would encourage you to give one a try. Several years ago I bought a Leica Q2 which quickly became my favorite camera. That was my entry into the Leica ecosystem. Since I had several M Mount lenses that I bought to adapt to my mirrorless bodies, when I came across a good buy on a M240, I purchased it. Pairing up a Leica, Voightlander, or Zeiss lens with a Leica sensor is magical. I always thought that the Leica look was hyped up BS, but it really is not. You talked about your appreciation for the feel of the quality build of your M Mount lenses. That is also very true of Leica bodies. Shooting with a Leica is a very different experience than other cameras. But be aware that if you give it a try, you may be selling your Sony gear!

I've tried manual glass started with some old Minolta glass on my a7 then picked up a Fuji xt-1 after selling my Fuji and getting an adapter to use the Minolta glass on that camera. It isn't often that I take it out but it's fun switching to full manual mode and having fun

Yes, it's good to have a little variety. I had an x-t1 a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

Interesting. Like you I learnt to like shooting manual and I have 4 Voightlander lenses; 3 for F mount and 1 for E mount and have adapted them to Z mount, L mount X mount and E mount. Your video has perhaps got me interested to buy M mount lenses and adapt to the other mounts. Part of the fun of photography is experimenting with adapting lenses to different bodies and am kind of a fan of Voigtlander.

I'm so glad to have stumbled on your channel! My exact sentiments on everything you said. I have had a lot of fun with the lenses you mentioned on Leica, Sony, Olympus and Canon bodies. Started shooting with Minolta (SRT-202 and XK) bodies/lenses in '77 which was an eye opener. Had a period of autofocus for action when the kids were growing up but reverted back to almost entirely manual focus. I fully agree with the process being so satisfying. Being an engineer by profession might have something to do with it. I hope you're enjoying the EU. With family and friends there (mostly Germany), I'm slowly downsizing in hope of spending more time with them. Anyway, thanks for the great reviews and like Alfred Eisenstaedt said, "Gud Licht"!

Have you ever considered buying a Techart LM- EA7/9 adapter, for those moments , manual focus is too slow?

Leica lenses are superb! I have a pile of M lenses, used the M6TTL and M6, never upgraded to the “dots” digital contacts. How does the adapter work with that camera? Looking for something full frame.

If you put a 100mm lens on a full frame sensor camera and use the same lens on an APS-C sensor camera, the final image will be the same if the full frame image is cropped to the size of the APS-C sensor image. Assuming the sensors have the same quality and pixel counts per mm, the quality of the image will be the same. The full frame image uncropped will have a wider field of view, so it really depends on what angle of view you want relative to the distance from the subject.
@professionalpotato4764
@professionalpotato4764 Жыл бұрын
The quality of the image will be lower when viewed at the same size due to less physical sensor size for the lp/mm calculations. So if you printed 2 photos shot on 2 formats with the same lens and resolution, the crop sensor shot will be softer.

Hi Luke thanks for the interesting vid. I notice you have an Elmar 90mm f/4 - I presume the b+w filter you put on was 39mm? Did you just screw that into the thread or did you need a Series 5.5 adapter? I have the same lens but unsure of the filter size - Many thanks!!

Hey Luke! Which adapter do you recommend for M lenses onto a Sony e-mount body? Do you have any issues with smearing or other defects? Someone told me they thought that Lumix adapted M lenses better than Sony, but I don't necessarily want to migrated to Lumix if that isn't the case. Thank you!

Brilliant Leica glass! The Summilux lens on my Q3 is the main reason that I bought the camera. The Sensor is an incredible piece of design between Leica and Sony but the lens is brilliant and I want now to get a good camera that I can fit some other Leitz glass to and make some incredible images.

What are your thoughts on the voigtlander close focus adapter? The price is pretty steep and im curious as to what benefit it has over the budget options. Ive tried a couple 3rd part adapter and ended up returning then because they had a lot of grease which concerned me.

Leica Summicron pre aspherical 90mm f/2.0 !!! Voigtlander 75mm f/1.5 , Voigtlander 65mm f/2.0 macro (I don’t have that one yet) , Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 (it’s great) , Voigtlander 21mm f/1.4 , Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 Many many Nikon F mounts too

Thing is...no EXIF, so-so compatibility with some focusing aids (I use Nikon Z, so do not know about Sony), frustrating minimum focus distance limitations unless you use a helicoid adapter (mine is a Voigtlander and I cannot reach infinity with some M lenses), some weird optical defects due to the microlens array in front of sensor (not so much on Nikon Z). Lack of AF is not the only quirky limitation when we go down the m-mount road. That said, after watching your video, I wonder....how does the 21mm f/1.8 work for you? I need something like that and there are not many alternatives outside of crazy priced 21mm summilux...

M-mount lenses also have another disadvantage, the minimum focus distance. Most can only focus as close as 70cm.

Many people do what you are doing and its fine. You can consider the techart adapter also. I use my M glass on Z9 sometimes. But the Leica sensor produce the best colours still via their lenses.

Hello, Can I put Leica/Leitz M 35/1,4 on gh6? And if yes what Adapter do I need. Subscribed. I want that kens for video work.
@LukeTaylorPhotography
@LukeTaylorPhotography Жыл бұрын
Yes, i believe it will work. I use a Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 on my Olympus e-m1 mark ii which has a micro four thirds sensor like the gh6. Just keep in mind it will have the 2x crop factor, so it will appear as a 70mm equivalent. You can use any micro four thirds to Leica M mount adapter. You can find them anywhere you can buy camera gear online.

That is almost exactly the same setup i still use totay. Although i am a proud owner of a M6 and M10, i still love to use my trusty A7m1 with manual lenses. I don't even own a single autofocus lens. As a Minolta enthusiast, i own a lot of manual Minolta MD and MC lenses. The A7 combined with manual lenses plus focus peaking and the C1 button setup to the focus magnification is a killer setup that is capable to beat leicas rangefinder easily when it comes to focus speed and handling. i love it and i hate it, because it makes my m10 obsolete :D ... and on top i feel a lot more comfortable travelling with my A7 than my m10 since its way more affordable. Voigtländer 35 1,4 along with A7 is a killer travel setup without the constant pain in the ass that 3,5k+ bucks are gone when your m10 is gone

I’ve been buying M mount of VM glass and the great Voigts in M because of the price to ratio of the image quality. I shoot them on Sony E and Nikon Z . The Nikon Z9 I have is the hands down very easiest manual focus camera I’ve ever used . Especially super fast glass and it’s accuracy. Sonys ate hit n miss with f/2.0 and faster .
