Today we check out the Sennheiser XSW-D wireless system and see why I use it live.

The XVIVE U2 system was also my first wireless system, and I had exactly the same issues that you mentioned 0:58 I initially bought it because a friend of mine has also the U2 system and it worked perfectly for him. At one point we were both playing on the same stage with the same setup. And when he was playing earlier, his U2 had no issues at all. And when I was playing with my U2 after that, mine dropped the connection multiple times (only a reboot of transmitter and receiver unit helped reestablishing the connection). We tried everything... changing the channel to what worked for him... fully charge them to be shure its not the battery... nothing helped. I ended up using his U2 system. But eventually, this stage wasn't the only place my U2 system stopped working. Basically on every stage so far i had this issues. I even send my U2 back and they changed the transmitter and receiver unit on them. but nope still drop outs. I guess in general it is a bad implementation of the 2.4GHz standard and it is vulnerable to interferences from phones and other wifi devices.

Yeah it stinks that the units are vulnerable to issues. I haven’t experienced that serious of an issue with my Sennhesier yet which is nice.

My truth is, I purchased these and returned them the same day. Many reviews truthfully mentioned that they have little to no battery life. I Agree.

I got 2 years out of these and just retired them in October of last year. When i made this video they were perfect and lasted 4-5 hours no sweat. After 2 years they burnt out and I needed something more heavy duty.

Sounds like you got a dud out of the box, my bandmates and I had 2-3 years of no issues using them for 50-100 shows a year. But I wouldn't buy them again today after having the Shure GLXD for almost a year.

I have been using the Shure GLXD16 for a nearly 6 years now and it has never let me down. I mainly do cover band gigs (weddings and the like) so don’t tend to get large stages, but it is useful to wander out front to check balances and mixes of the band. I hate the thought of being tethered by a cable!!

I just for the tuner pedal set , feels odd like there’s some lag idk never experienced that , found it for 150 at gc lol thinking of getting that base reciever too

I had this before. But was using it at a crappy dive bar with a band that played intermittently. Starting up with a cover band soon, so looking at wireless again. This always treated me well, but I’m also considering getting a higher level wireless. If you do get this, I personally did not like it hanging off my guitar. I used the Xvive wireless pouch and an extension cable. Put the wireless on my strap. Highly recommend.

A system like with with longer running time is my preference. Maybe Sennheiser will come out with one. My Cuvave only gives me 1.5 hours running time, so it's not suitable for a gig.

I get a full 4 hour gig plus soundcheck out of these, plus they can always be charged in between sets. Better than spending $ on batteries!

I have not. But I trust Sennhesier and tour with their in ears and wireless mics and have had no issues.

If another musician in the band has a Sennheiser XSW-D too, do they conflict with each other? Previous wireless units I've had have frequency selectors so if another guy in the band has the same wireless unit, you can dial a different frequency. But this doesn't seem to have that. So do you know if they conflict?

Nope! I think I said in the video that my bassist also uses this unit and we have had zero issues. There are so many sub bands that the unit can use and the transmitter and receiver always connect to each other and never a different units. We also use wireless IEMs and microphones with no issues as well!

Im kind of late to the party but i have a director asking, is there any way to use these for director moniters? I think all i need for my setup is a male headphone jack to female xlr but before i go ordering things has anyone tried this? My plan if attack is mixer>headphone jack to xlr cable>transmitter>wireless reciever>headphones>directors ears

You're better off getting an in-ear monitoring system as it's designed to do exactly this.

Is your singer's wireless microphone operating through a XSW-D too? If not, is her mic naturally wireless and she provides the receiver box to FOH?

Separate wireless system all together. Mics are Shure wireless mics on a different band of frequencies. Everything runs through our Splitter and IEM rack so FOH gets a separate feed from on onstage snake splitter.

It lasts 4-5 hours on a charge! After 300 shows it started lasting 3 hours or so and I got them replaced via Sennheiser directly.

Yes, the bassist in my old band used one as well. It's a full range wireless unit.

I’ve been using the Shure GLXD16 for a few years now but lately it’s giving me issues. I’m interested in the Sennheiser but have read some bad reviews regarding battery life. Are you getting 5 hours out of the transmitter?

Yup! I play 2-3.5 hours at a time and have no issues. I charge after every gig anyway and it charges fast. Realistically you’re not playing for 5 hours straight on a gig so I still recommend it.

The Sennheiser XSW-D system is pure garbage. Don't buy it. Don't waste money on any equipment that uses the 2.4GHz instrument band. As a life long fan of Sennheiser equipment this makes me very sad.

Why do you feel it's garbage? I've been touring with it for two years with no connectivity or signal issues up and down the East Coast.

And we use a full wireless IEM setup with wireless mics and a wireless bass rig in venues with their own sound system and various digital gear.

@@ZackSeifMusic It is extremely sensitive to EMF. Stand within 5 ft of an LED wall and you will lose signal intermittently and you'll get digital distortion. No 2.4GHz system I have ever tried has behaved well. They can't compete with a proper RF setup. Yes RF systems are much more expensive, but can you put a price on continuous and reliable sound on stage? I can't afford the pro systems, so I go with cables - 100% bulletproof. If you can't play without tripping over cables then I suppose that is your issue.
