I got the VXD version of this lens a week ago and LOVE it. In fact, I had just purchased the brand-new Sony FE 24-50mm F/2.8 G lens that came out a week ago and returned it for Tamron. Yes, the Sony lens was very good but I like the results from the Tamron more. This will be my primary lens and I especially look forward to using it during my travels.

Chiming in late here, been down a rabbit hole of Tamron lenses lately. And admittedly I've always been an unwavering native glass guy. But Tamron just announced the 50-400 for the Nikon Z system and I think it very well might be my next lens. I'm also seriously considering the 28-75 2.8 G2, which brought me to this video. Both lenses are exceeding expectations from basically every single review I've seen. Great info here, thanks!

I just purchased a complete Sony full frame kit from a friend who had upgraded. The result is that I now have an A9 with the first generation 28-75 Tamron and the 17-28mm f2.8 Tamron as well. I am very pleased with the image quality of the 28-75 but haven't used the 17-28 enough to form a useful opinion yet. That particular lens may find duty on the a6000 since it be a less extreme wide on that camera. Great video by the way.

I used to own the old g1 version, sold my whole sony kit for Leica, but had to regather my sony kit again because i started school. Bu this time around i went for primes, and i have been waiting for so long to get a standard zoom again.. I just bought the G2, and i will say - after using the sony 24-70 GM, i much prefer the tamron, primarily because of the weight. And i feel like too many people are stuck on image quality, but dont really consider that sometimes you have to carry this lens around for 8+ hours at some gigs.

Just bought the Tamron as a general purpose walk about lens. Haven't done any work with it yet, but the test results on the web are very persuasive. At 50 mm, center sharpness is up there with some of the best 50 mm primes. I feel it's got a lot going for it. The test results are actually superior to the nikon equivalent, which says a lot for the lens.
@bigrobotnewstoday14367 ай бұрын
I saw a test here on KZbin that the old version of this lens is better in low light auto focus. I've heard this before with another lens the Panasonic 14-140mm Micro Four Thirds super zoom. With the older one having better auto focus in low light. I don't know why but I'm guessing maybe the extra coating they put on the glass can effect the auto focus in low light. Depending on what kind of photography you do the older lens might be better for somethings.

I used the old version of tamron 28-75 f2.8 and i like it. Used it on a6000 and a73 and i loved it. Got back to nikon after that but because of freelance demands, i had to buy a7r3 for my photo needs, i tried to use the old version with it but i didn't do the job for me especially in moving subjects and hard lighting conditions like entourage during a wedding. I was thinking because the a7r3 is slower than my old a73. I was planning to buy the g2 version later on this year paired with a74. Hopefully it will go well. Tamron 28-75 for me has been the best short zoom lens to me than the 24-70 of sigma and sony.

just a little question... do you use the first gen or the g2

Owned the 1st version of this lens for over 10 years and it's almost the only lens I use for everything. I'm upgrading some stuff today and switching mounts, but will be replacing my old one with the newer version. I love using the G Master, but for a third of the price this is almost the same.

@@GaryBox To clarify, I was using an adapted version of the original Canon EF model with an adapter. I just purchased the latest version native to Sony FE. I did also use the previous version of the Sony FE mount for one of my in house jobs and it was also great, but this new one has way better autofocus! When I was adapting from canon it was full manual so it’s a really nice upgrade for my personal set up.
@GaryBox2 ай бұрын
@@Avedisdrummer09 Ah OK your comment confused me as I thought you meant 10 years owning the FE version. I seem to use primes more these days so the 28-75 gets used less. I'm not sure I would update to the latest version, it seems the biggest improvement is the bokeh and whilst I love bokeh I always use primes for that.

Commenting a little while after you made this video, but hopefully this gets seen! I'm interested in buying this lens but only have the first A7 which doesn't have any in built image stabilisation, I have also seen that the lens does not have image stabilisation. At these focal lengths will this cause the lens to be pretty unusable or is it only much higher focal lengths where stabilisation is key? (this is for photos as well not videos), also lovely video :)
@peterkin1010 Жыл бұрын
Nothing much wrong with those pics and I've been impressed enough to subscribe. As for gear? Nikon fixed focal length lenses except for a 35-70mm f3.5 AIS zoom. Goes as follows..20mm f1.8 G, 24mm f1.4 G, 50mm f1.4 G, 60mm f2.8 D Macro, 105mm f1.8 AIS 135mm f2.0 DC and a 200mm f4.0 IFED Macro. Still use film and have a Nikon F4E and a Nikon F5 50th anniversary, It is the photos that count and all the gear on earth does not make anyone a great photographer.

Tamron is trash. Over price hyped up lens. I had both Tamron's, 28-75 & 28-200mm. The Tanron 28-75mm is a bit better than the Sony kit 28-70mm, but not $800.00 dollars worth. The best budget one lens does all, plus it's a Sony is the Sony FE 24-105mm f4 OSS. Plus you get OSS. And you can get them used for about $600.00 (why buy new?). Plus, it's a Sony native lens. F4 is fine with these new camera now days. I don't know of many ppl that go around shooting in the dark... ppl need to stop wasting their money on these useless HYPED up products.
