The SGR is a good experience I have travelled with it more than 50 times. It is not awkward sitting next to people who you do not know. It happens in Nairobi when we board matatus and stuff, school, universities, in the market,,, 99% of the world are strangers to you.... so... that aside, it is a whole new experience each time. sometimes you sit with interesting fellas who you end up becoming friends with, sometimes you sit with noisy and arrogant kids, sometimes you sit with people who have a crus on you... sometimes a drunk guy who is fun to listen to... a group of teachers going to holiday who are just cracking jokes, until a Karen reports them to the authorities,,, i mean.... its basically a coin toss which is worth is on all levels... besides the people, the terrain changes significantly, today, you'll see green lush vegetation, sometimes you'll be met with dry endless desert like landscapes. momentarily drivers will try to overtake the train where the SGR and the Mombasa road get so close together. Its fun, its normal, its insane its boring sometimes, its everything. I can never guarantee you a good experience nor a bad one... Just go for it... Honorable mentions: elephants giraffes zebras monkeys wildebeests Acacia trees Tsavo River Athiriver Yatta Plateau Kyulu Hills Taita Hills Remember... its worth trying.
