Girl thank you. I've tried to get my sheets to look better and smell better. My husband sweats badly and within three days I have to wash the sheets again which normally I'd only change and clean my sheets once a week saving me money as we live in an apartment complex and have to pay to do our laundry. I'm gonna be trying what you've shown here because even if I wash yhe sheets their still dingy and smelly. So thank you! Question. Do you know anything about plants?

Thank you for the video. However, I’ve done this… more than once…and there was dirt. I don’t use fabric softeners, so it’s not that buildup… it’s just…dirt. From body oils, flaky skin, and sweat. I just wanted to give my results. Thanks again for the video. 😊

My grandmother did laundry once a week outside in a huge kettle with boiling water over a fire stirring with a big stick. That was in the 1930,s. I am thankful for my washing machine.

Borax is $4.50 at target, Walmart, and Lowes for the large box. Also, don’t underestimate Borax - I use it with my towels every so often to clean my washing machine tub of those funky odors it can sometimes get. It’s much cheaper to use 1/2 cup of borax than it is to buy the Afresh tabs.

I'm not as down on stripping laundry as Andrea. I did strip couple of loads of white sheets and towels, just in my washing machine. That whole bathtub thing is just stupid, IMO. I used Tide Free and Clear (allergic to regular Tide), 1/2 cup Borax, 1/2 cup washing soda (not a lot of difference between this and regular baking soda, regular is cheaper), and 1 cup vinegar in hottest water. I partially filled the washer's tub, mixed in the ingredients, put in the laundry, let it finish filling. I let it agitate until everything was wet and submerged, them turned off the washer. I let it sit for about 6 hours, turning on the machine and letting it agitate for a minute ever couple of hours. This whole method much more sense to me than the bathtub method. It "stirs" the clothes and rinses them without having to move heavy, wet clothes from bathroom to laundry room. I didn't do my clothes, but it did make a difference in the sheets and towels. The water WAS DIRTY, and I mean, real DIRT! I put body lotion on myself before I dry off when I bathe, then towel off gently. This works great for my skin, but not for my towels. Normal washing works okay, but I found after a while all that lotion was building up. The stripping took out all the build up and left them whiter than usual. I wouldn't bother doing everything, but for sheets and towels, it really made a difference. Also, I put sweatshirts on my 3 dogs in the winter. They stay inside most of the time, but boy do those shirts get dirty and smelly anyway. I also noticed the drawer with the "clean" shirts was getting really smelly, too. I had tried Oxyclean and a couple of other products but the smell kept coming back, so I decided to try the stripping thing. The shirts came out cleaner than ever and the smell hasn't come back.

Hi! Thank you for the video. If you wash your clothes in those front loader HE machines, I think those are the people that are showing results from stripping their laundry. Even with a second rince I don't think those washers are properly cleaning the clothes. I also think people are over stuffing those machines too. My circumstances changed, and I now need to use a laundromat. I have seen people stuff those front loaders so that there isn't an inch left, there is no way their clothes got clean doing that. Clothes need a lot of room to move around, and get soaking wet. The people having less success are using a top loading machine. People that have clean clothes that don't smell are washing their clothes correctly. My first year of marriage my husband's clothes stunk like I've never seen before, he did hard outdoor labor roofing. I tried Tide, still stunk. Surf was a brand new detergent, promising to get the smells out of clothes, still stunk. Gave up and went to talk to my mother-in-law. Her answer was wash the clothes at least once a week, don't wait any longer. Also use a fourth cup each of: Arm & Hammer Baking Soda, Washing Soda, and Borax in every load. Also to use the smallest amount of detergent for that size load of laundry, (too much detergent just attracts dirt and odors, it doesn't fully rinse out). If you use fabric softener only use the least amount on the cap, or tablespoonful, never more than a shot glass full. Do a second rince if you can. Also treat stains with a spoonful of detergent and a spoonful of water, gently rub with a toothbrush, let sit for 20 minutes, then check on it, repeat as needed. Well, she was right, it works, his clothes have been smelling fresh since 1985. Also I've cut back to a tablespoonful of each in the wash. There's a learning curve when you first get married, ask your parents and in-laws for every bit of information you can. I wish back then we would have been able to record people as easily as you can now. I could still have my mother-in-law helping me out and talking to me. (R.I.P. mom) Hope this helps. Take care, stay safe, have a nice day. 👵☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊

Have used White vinegar for about 20 years as a fabric softener- works so well- but for super stinky things (like dog beds and riding clothes-horse back) I have used odoban in the fabric softener dispenser - works amazing-(had a house fire about 25 years ago and that is what the recovery compamy used to get the smoke smell out of our clothes and furniture) and have used ever since

My husband works construction. I strip his shirts which I wash each time he wears them. I get a lot of dirt and concrete dust out and they smell so fresh after. I will continue to strip them a few times a month. Completely worth it. I think it's smart to really get the deep crap out. Also, the Downy infusion creates such a huge built-up over time its nasty and starts to stink in the machine. Make sure you don't let the vinegar mix with your detergent, It negates the soap.

Laundry stripping is nothing new but in my opinion a totally unnecessary and time consuming step if you do laundry properly. Even the Good Housekeeping website agrees. That means sorting the laundry properly, using a good laundry detergent and the proper amount amount of detergent and fabric softener and not overloading the machine. If you look at the tik tok videos, the water looks so nasty because non colorfast dark towels were left to soak for hours in hot water. Most of that is probably fabric dye. If you think you notice a buildup of product, dinginess or smell on your laundry, add borax or washing soda only as needed to your regular load of laundry. It all seems much ado about nothing.

THANK GOD!!!!!! Finally, someone with some common sense!!! As a side note, you don't even have to do the alka seltzer or baking soda and vinegar in a bucket or separate container, you can soak them right in your washer. If it's just a couple things, use the smaller load setting so you don't fill the entire washer with water. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you calling out the fake videos on this kind of stuff. BTW, you can get all those ingredients like Borax and washing soda at places like Walmart for less than half what you'll pay on Amazon...

I have never done mine in the bathtub cuz it seems like a messy extra step. But I have done it letting my clothes soaked in the washing machine. To tell you the truth I don't mind having a coating of something on my clothes so that my hair and everything else doesn't stick so bad. I do however like to do it every once in awhile for my towels. There are minerals and stuff in the water and so it does make your towels extra-absorbent, but again, I just do this in the washing machine and leaded agitate every hour or so and then run it through.

I thought it was just me. I watched a few “stripping” videos and was like why don’t they just use the soak feature on their machines. Or better yet just stop the machine once it’s starts the wash cycle and you can let it soak as long as you want. Then just let the washing machine do it’s job 🤷🏽‍♀️

The primary active ingredient in Alka-Selzer is Sodium Bicarbonate, aka Baking Soda. Stick to the cheap stuff. Most of what needs to be washed out of your clothes is already acidic. Use baking soda and washing soda, not vinegar, to change the pH and get cleaner clothes. Washing soda can be used as a pretreat (change the pH) or spot treatment for laundry.

I've been doing laundry for over 50 years, my laundry is great. I never use fabric softener or dryer sheets. I use tide. You have to have a top loader washer. Whenever I feel like it I will add a big glug of vinegar to my rinse water, agitate and let it soak for awhile or not and then rinse again in only water -you may want to rinse twice to get the vinegar smell out. Every once in a while whenever I feel like it I will put some baking power in the rinse, agitate, let it soak or not, and then rinse again in only water. Whatever the vinegar doesn't get out the baking powered will attack. Whenever I feel like it, I use Borax in my wash. Since I am the only one doing laundry I know when I last treated the clothes. Whenever I feel like it is about every 2 or 3 months. No crazy stripping for me.

Ammonia, oxy-clean or borax, and tide. great for whitening and removing smells. I usually double rinse. You can also soak clothing with old stains and yellowed linens in this mixture outside for 24 hours then launder and the old stains usually come out. Look up how to whiten old linens online for more specific recipes. It doesn't destroy fabric like bleach.

My 20 year old son moved out around 18 months ago, and whenever he comes home I try to wash something lol because he lived in an old, run-down house for about a year, along with goodness knows what of a washing machine, it imparted one hell of a stubborn, putrid stink into his clothes! The ONLY thing that works is the good ole baking soda in a long, hot wash, with vinegar to rinse. I tried oxy clean with enzymes, I tried laundry sanitizer, and I tried tea tree and lavender essential oils, nothing else would budge the stench! After that I ran another rinse cycle with some fabric conditioner just to make it smell pretty again lol.

Hi Kathy Rogers, Try a half cup of Arm & Hammer baking soda, and/or washing soda, and a fourth cup of Borax, along with the lowest amount of detergent for the size load you're washing. Then let them soak in the washer for an hour using the heavy duty wash cycle. Go to the washer every 15 minutes and let it agitate for 5 minutes and then stop the washer. Once the hour is up, return the dial back to the beginning and wash the load through a heavy duty cycle with the swimsuits in a laundry bag. Do not use any fabric softener. Then do a second rinse cycle at the end. That should get any funky smell out. Next time you wash them, a heaping tablespoon of baking soda, washing soda, and Borax, along with your detergent in the lowest amount for that size load. Or hand wash your swimsuits after each use, in a plastic dish pan, or soaking sink in your laundry room, with a capful of Woolite brand detergent if you're worried about the elastic in the swimsuits. Don't forget to check your hair for chlorine damage as well. A girl I went to school with (40 years ago), had natural blonde hair, the new house they moved into had a swimming pool, so she swam everyday after school, let her hair dry without rinsing it, while she did homework. Her hair started turning green from the chlorine. I forget if it was the doctor or the hairdresser that fixed it. But she showered after swimming after that. But they don't make LemonUp shampoo anymore. Good luck. Hope this helps. Take care, stay safe, have a nice day. 👵☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊

I have had to do this sort of process but individually not putting all items together in the bath and the reason for this was that my stuff was put in storage against my will by a conman removals you wouldn't believe, so I've had to wash everything individually with many different products just to make sure there's no mould and that has involved steeping clothes and product and washing them

The clothing is not supposed to be soaking that long. Wgat you are actually doing is ruining the color. Just wash your clothes with vinegar or sanytol.....
