Hate to break it to you but there are many people who simply cannot afford Original Medicare and a Medigap Plan. Then when they can afford it the rates go up every year that again forces many people out of the Medigap into a Medicare Advantage. Every case must be evaluated on a need/affordability basis. I run an Medicare Agency and have been in the business for 33 years. We have many clients with both Medigap and Medicare Advantage. Is there a "perfect" plan? The closest thing to "perfect" is a Medicare Advantage Dual Plan. You get all the goodies at no cost and no copays, you need to qualify for it. And for the folks reading this, if any agent tries to steer you into ANY plan, find another agent. You should "choose" a Medicare Plan based on your needs....... not be "Sold" one.

The problem is all the different videos a broker might have online going back years past, & all the parts relating to those years. Delete them! Make new videos with updated pertinent & complete content! This man is the only broker of 5 who mentioned Wisconsin being one of a handful of nonstandardized states. In this case which means there is no Plan G or Plan N. He did not say what it's named for Wisconsin, but does inform that it would include those small deductible payments that Plan N carries. Such a small additional amount of info to add by those other brokers & I have not seen any of them mention it, even though one of them was signing me up for "Plan G" and it does not exist for Wisconsin.....I'm in Wisconsin! I have no idea if it would change my premiums but it would be confusing to find out after the fact he did not inform me of these things. That is irresponsible at the minimum.

Everything you have described in this video about Advantage plans I have lived for over 22 years with my employer's Health ins HMO. I am so used to this particular system of getting approvals and referrals that it does not bother me. I've gotten hip replacement surgeries on both sides and Physical Therapies, and have had no issues with getting approvals. Having said that, I have decided and enrolled for an Advantage plan. Also, I don't have to worry either in enrolling for dental, vision nor Pharmacy. And what's more awesome about this is the fact that I don't have a monthly premium anymore.

A blanket statement that Medicaree Advantage plans aren't good is a generalization. My Supplemental Plan G & D cost me $180 per month over & above my basic Medicare premium. If you look at Kaiser Advantage plans if available in your area you get good medical care at a much lower cost with some ouf of network possibilities.

You don’t get something for nothing. How do you suppose that difference is made up? It has to come from somewhere. That “somewhere” will be the Advantage plan ultimately denying coverage down the road, possibly at the worst possible time for the client. Medicare Advantage clients are essentially playing the lottery.

I live in Asia while still paying Medicare Part B without receiving any benefit in my country of domicile. However, when major medical issues occur many retirees return to the US to have Medicare provided service - instead of paying for the medical services locally. Medicare could save significant health care costs if only they offered partial coverage to folks living overseas. That way the medical services could be purchased at a much lower cost in the country of domicile which would also reduce the cost to the Medicare system.

I guess the obstacles are that @ $7000 cost if I end up in the hospital with something expensive and, the fact that my health needs being controlled by a private firm attempting to keep costs down. On the other side, I don't like that I'm going to have to shop for all of the ala carte needs resulting in 5 cards in my wallet! I'm in NJ, I'm sure we are high here.

Agree. The Advantage plan that I will have available has the same out of pocket cost for in network or out of network. As long as the provider accepts Medicare they will pay. It is stated as a 90/10 plan with defined max out of pocket expenses every year. I know several folks that have this plan and they are extremely happy with it. No fuss no muss. No donut hole for prescription drugs. The max out of pocket on original Medicare with supplements is greater. I think that most of the folks on KZbin pushing original Medicare make more money selling those supplemental plans over Advantage plans. Not all Advantage plans are bad.

@@robertbrost7777 With traditional Medicare and a supplemental drug plan there is a "donut hole" that occurs when you reach a specific threshold of cost. My father "maxed out" his prescription drug coverage every year with Insulin. Once that threshold was reached then he was in the "donut hole" and had to pay out of pocket 100% for his insulin. Most Advantage plans have a max out of pocket for prescription drugs, IE. no donut hole. You pay as you go up to the max. In traditional Medicare with a drug plan you get out of the "donut hole" by maxing out your prescription drug costs. Pop never got out of the donut hole.

I am already in a Medicare advantage plan. Am I allowed to cancel that in favor of a Medicare supplement plan?
@MedicareonVideo Жыл бұрын
Yes, you have the option to cancel your Medicare Advantage plan and switch to a Medicare supplement plan. However, there are a few important factors to consider before making the switch. Firstly, you must check if you are within the enrollment period for Medicare supplement plans, which typically lasts for six months after you turn 65 and enroll in Medicare Part B. Additionally, it's crucial to review the benefits and coverage offered by both plans to ensure that the Medicare supplement plan provides the necessary coverage for your specific needs. It is recommended to consult with a licensed insurance agent or Medicare expert who can guide you through the process and help you make an informed decision.

Don't just write a reply on his comments. He obviously is not answering everyone. Take initiative and call the phone number. You need a separate prescription part D plan if you switch to a Medicare supplement plan or you will have a penalty each month you don't have one and it will stay on for your life even when you get one. So don't switch off advantage until you have an agent tiu trust get you on the best supplement plan and drug plan that covers the drugs you are in and check drugs you may need potentially in future and what tier they are in. Also need to pass medical underwriting questions for the supplement plan. If you are healthy you should have no problem. Don't change anything until you have both in place You need to listen to more KZbin videos from this gentleman and others and educate yourself so agents don't take advantage of you.

MA Advantage dental may be OK for those with routine needs, like preventive and maybe a filling here and there. I use to work in the Seniors market. Take the original Medicare. Now the only exception to this is that you are in such a financial hardship, take the HMO or other such provider. Use to be if you went with an HMO you actually were removed from Medicare. And then you had to reapply to Medicare. There were only three ways to get out of a Seniors HMO back then. A. Move out of the area to another area where that Senior HMO didn't have any coverage. B. The HMO dropped the area you were in. C. You died. And I did see that happen. Medicare costs more, but it is worth it. Sadly, I met seniors who were on Medicare who when informed, were told that they actually qualified for Medicaid. Why? They didn't make enough money.

For those with chronic autoimmune or Epstein Barr or Lyme, this can really hurt a person to be in an HMO. The supplement plan allows you to see any MD in the COUNTRY that accepts Medicare. Advantage plans are also managed Healthcare plans that have the authority to deny you the care you want asap. My mom has a MA HMO in Florida....and it always needs pre-certs and referrals. Plus, the HMO constantly changes doctors as doctors stop taking the hmo. So, I have some chronic issues. I don't need to jump through hoops to get care. YET, the ppo the agent offered says in or out of network is no problem. It isn't very clear, to say the least.
@micheleyoungblood Жыл бұрын
If you have chronic issues I would think very hard about what this agent is trying to sell you. Most agents make a lot of money on Medicare advantage plans initial enrollment and even more money than supplement plans on their annual renewals. What is the max out-of-pocket on this PPO plan because if you have chronic illness you may reach it every single year. Who are the doctors that you see on a regular basis and do you want to keep those doctors? A PPO plan still is a network of doctors even in other States. So make sure who takes the plan if you want to see a specific hospital organization. Also they can still make you jump through hoops for prior authorization. What drugs are you taking? Does the drug plan in this PPO or HMO that this agent is trying to offer you, offer the drugs that you're taking and at what cost and what tier are they in? This can change annually. Every year annual enrollment you must look at drugs and doctors before staying with the plan. If this agent is trying to sell you an HMO plan that has an even smaller Network and you say you have chronic problems, you need larger Network to move around. I recommend you start listening to a lot of other people here on KZbin, call some of these agents and then find out what other people are recommending for your situation, and not listen to One agent trying to sell you something. Please educate yourself before making the biggest decision of your life. If you have chronic problems you may never pass underwriting if you try to change from an advantage plan to a medigap plan again. The decision you make when you first enter Medicare could be your last. You do have 1 year I believe to switch back to Medicare but I'm not sure the rule to get the supplement without medical underwriting. Download his book

Always get a second opinion. I'm an Insurance Broker in Central Florida specializing in Medicare Advantage Plans, and here's my Opinion: Original Medicare is a great choice for the Top 20% of earners (Americans earning $100,000 or more each year) because they have Disposable Income! The other 80% and people living Month-To-Month on Government assistance (about 1/2 of the 80%) can't afford the Very High monthly cost of being on Original Medicare + a Supplement + a Drug Plan. Here are the Very High monthly costs you will have to suffer through (which this guy never mentions) on Original Medicare: (1.) Monthly Supplement Plan: $180. (2.) Monthly Part B Premium: $170. (3.) Monthly Part D: Drug Plan $55. (4.) Annual Part B Deductible: $233. Monthly Total: 180 + 170 + 55 = $405 (Very High monthly cost) Yearly Total: $405 x 12 = $4,860 + 233 = $5,093 (Very High yearly cost) When you have all the information, making the best choice that's right for you is easy! 😆😎👍

This is not true information. I have both of my parents on Medicare, one 88 and one 92. They have always had a supplement plan which covers everything that Medicare does not pay for. Also, they have a part D plan for drugs. They have had so many surgeries, hospital stays, stoke, over the years and they have not paid a dime for any of them. I know I take care of their bills. They make about $24,000.00 a year on Social Security, and they own their home, that is it. Advantage Plans are like HMO's and if you get really sick or get hurt from a fall, you better have some serious cash because your out of pocket can be very high. These Advantage Plans are nothing but a money grab by the Insurance companies.

Not sure your logic applies in all cases. I am in the highest IRMMA brackets for 2023 and likely beyond which makes my premiums very high for part B and D you can look at the tables. Original Medicare and a medigap, means you also need to purchase dental, vision, drug plans etc, it gets very expensive I am still working so medicare is not a consideration for the balance of 2022 but I am not so sure Part C isn't the better option if I stop working in 2023. Lots of factors to consider. To state that in all cases original medicare is the best option may be a bit misleading. For the benefit of those looking in, you might cover why one might consider part C unless you really believe part C isn't for anyone. I am thinking original medicare might be a better option for me but many factors to consider. I do travel and plan to continue when I quit my job, and I may live part-time in South Florida in the winter so network coverage may be an issue.

And as I understand, once to go to Advantage, you can only go back with a HUGE penalty and maybe a delay.
@micheleyoungblood Жыл бұрын
No I don't think there's a penalty to go back to Medicare from Medicare advantage. Actually if you do it within one year, from my understanding of watching various videos on KZbin, it's a no-problem switch. Now the question is in this situation can you get a supplement plan without underwriting. Hopefully Keith can come on here and answer that question. Otherwise if you've been on Medicare advantage for several years and you want to switch back to Medicare you can do that anytime. Now the question is getting the Medicare supplement plan which needs to be medically underwritten and if you can answer those questions 20 or so questions they have to be approved for tge supplement plan. You don't want to leave your advantage plan until you have your supplement plan in place. And I believe you can do this anytime of the year. I may be wrong on that; I know that if you're on supplement plans and you want to switch a plan you can do that anytime of the year. Whether you can leave an advantage plan to a supplement plan I'm not sure if that is any time during the year or only during these time periods specified.

Over the course of a year, the out oof pocket for Original Medicare is the monthly Plan G premium cost (which goes us as you age) PLUS the annual deductible. Comparing with Medicare Advantage, $0 monthly plus $7500 max, original medicare plus supplement is a winner,. Monthly costs are predictable whether you have a medical crisis or not. With Advantage, monthly costs are not predictable. In my experience, medicare advantage is most likely to be selected by folks who have very ittle retirement income, because they think the low monthly premium can fit into their budgets, neglecting to add in the copays, etc that add up fast. It would be helpful if someone presented these facts when selling medicare supplements vs advantage.

Where do you get coverage for: Optical, Dental, Hearing ?
@MedicareonVideo Жыл бұрын
Reply: Great question! While Medicare does not typically cover optical, dental, and hearing services, there are additional options available to get coverage for these services. For optical coverage, you may consider purchasing a standalone vision insurance plan, which can help cover the cost of eye exams, glasses, and contact lenses. Alternatively, some Medicare Advantage plans offer vision benefits as part of their coverage. When it comes to dental coverage, original Medicare generally does not include dental services, including routine check-ups, fillings, or dentures. However, you can explore standalone dental insurance plans or consider enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan that includes dental benefits. For hearing coverage, original Medicare typically offers limited coverage for diagnostic hearing exams. However, you can look into Medicare Advantage plans that include hearing benefits, such as coverage for hearing aids and related services. Ultimately, it's important to research and compare your options, including standalone insurance plans and Medicare Advantage plans, to find the coverage that best suits your needs. It's always a good idea to consult with a licensed insurance agent or reach out to Medicare directly for more detailed information on coverage options.

@@MaryBethMcCoy …and these plans are advantage plans, sorry, but they give you more coverage. It all depends on where you live and what your individual circumstances are!
@MaryBethMcCoy2 жыл бұрын
@@beautyRest1 The OP said they had Plan G, which means they have Original Medicare. They need dental coverage. I simply told them they could get a separate plan for dental coverage or a plan that covers dental, vision and hearing. That has nothing to do with an Advantage plan. I have one and they do not work like an Advantage plan. There are no networks. You seem to be attempting to make the point that Medicare Advantage is better coverage than Original Medicare and a Supplement, but I don’t think that is true. Yes, Medicare Advantage plans do offer some dental, vision and hearing coverage, but it is very basic and minimal. The Part D drug coverage is also typically included, but you are stuck with their set drug formulary which may or may not meet your needs. But, the main drawback with the Advantage plans is that you are usually locked into a network of doctors unless you are willing to pay considerably more to go out of network, and the insurance company gets to dictate what care you are allowed to get- not your own doctor, so you have no control over your own care. The insurance companies who manage your care are for profit companies, so their focus is on saving money for the company and finding ways to improve their bottom line. They are often not doing what is in the best interest of the patient. Advantage plans can be a good choice for some people, especially in situations where finances are limited or you live in a large, metropolitan area where there are many plans, doctors and services available. However, studies have shown that if you ever need major medical care, people on Advantage plans often get denied needed care and typically end up spending lots more money out of pocket than if they had Original Medicare along with a Supplement, due to the copays, co-insurance and yearly maximum out of pocket expenses they are required to pay.
@beautyRest12 жыл бұрын
@@MaryBethMcCoy both have their good and bad, but some people just cannot afford over $300 for insurance, whereas advantage plans are typically cheaper. It’s all about the money in the end.
@MaryBethMcCoy2 жыл бұрын
@@beautyRest1 Yes, as I mentioned, Advantage plans can be good options for people with limited finances, especially if they live in a larger city. However, it depends where you live. I don’t want people to think that going with Original Medicare combined with a Supplement always means it will be super expensive. It depends on your state and which company you go with. Costs can vary drastically between insurance companies for the exact same coverage. I think what is most important is that people should seek out an independent broker who can research all of the options available to them so that they can find the best coverage that meets their needs at the best price.

pre existing conditions will keep you out of a medi gap plan
@micheleyoungblood Жыл бұрын
You always have a choice, even with preexisting conditions when you first sign up for Medicare Part B. If you have pre-existing conditions at this time you want to get a Medicare supplement Plan if you can afford it. The plan N and premiums are usually more stable than the Plan G if you can afford the office visits which are usually not that big a deal. If it's sometime in the future you cannot afford the premiums you can always switch to Medicare advantage. You cannot go for Medicare advantage to a supplement if you are sick. If you have pre-existing conditions when you get onto Medicare then get onto a supplement first. The High Deductible G plan if you can find the deductible which increases annually and currently $2700 (includes the plan B deductible) is an option if you have the deductible in the bank and available to use each year. Premiums are low around $30 to $40 except states like Florida which have high supplement pricing and may be closer to $69 or $70. You will get bills for the 20% until your out if pocket hits the deductible. annual premiums don't increase as much percentage wise as the plan G or even N annually. Just options. I will take the HDG over an advantage plan and most advantage plans you pay the co pays and co insurance up to max out of pocket of $5000,$7500 depending on plan. Read fine print. One HDG hits the deductible it covers just like the regular G plan at 100% Medicare advantage has networks, even the PPO where supplement does not.

Supplemental Insurance is a Massive rip off.... they do NOT cover 20% - they cover "20% of what's left" & this applies only to doctor visits - so after $200 Deductible - you're bill from a Doc is $20 if you have Supplemental they pay $4 or 20%..... I have NEVER used Supplemental plans b/c they increase as you age & pay nothing except the initial Hospital Co-Pay ($1400).... Call Medicare & pick your Own Part D plan & dump the Supplemental & stay far away from Advantage plans..... I am a Stage 4 metastatic Cancer survivor & Medicare has paid Million in expenses..... I paid the Yearly Deductibles of $200 & $1400 for A & B & my Doc co -pays & ER - so that's $1,600 out of pocket per yr (if I need a Hospital stay) but if I used Supplemental I'd be paying them between $2,400 (200/month) & $4,800 (400/month) per year over 10 yrs so far which equals nearly $30,000 per decade on Avg...... They are Both scams & I've gotten many friends & family to dump the Supplemental by pulling out their Bills & showing them what is actually paid & by who.... The Trick Supplemental plans use is they help you pick you Part D plan so people falsely believe Supplemental & Part D are a package.... The major problem is 99% of Americans know little to Nothing about how Health Insurance works b/c the employer has always paid for their plans..... My Sister went into Credit Card debt paying her Prescriptions Meds b/c she was too scared to drop the Supplemental plan she was paying $200 / month for 8 yrs..... On a Fixed income she needed Blood Thinners which out of pocket on Part D based on here phase would be $1,500 total fort the year..... So after 8 yrs she's handing Supplemental Ins over 2 G's a yr - total $16,000 after 8 yrs & she's got over $10,000 on her credit card paying for Medicine..... I took her to the bank, she did an Equity Loan to wipe out the Credit card debt, I removed the Supplemental but kept the $200 / month she was giving Supplemental & put that in a separate account for to pay for her prescriptions & if she has a hospital stay to pay the once a yr Co-Pay...... That was 5 yrs ago - she is Thrilled - the Equity Loan was paid off in 1/2 the 10 yr time period, her meds are paid w/ No credit card involvement & she had plenty of extra $$$ in that account for a Part A hospital Deductible When I showed her all her bills 5 yrs ago she saw that Supplemental started taking $1,800 ($150/month) a yr from her total but it increased each year & what they Actually paid NEVER total more than $100 in Any year & was usually Much less..... It's important to remember that YOU paid for Medicare - it's Not a Gift..... Supplemental & Advantage plans are BOTH private Insurance & they dont care about your health Part D plans are also Private Insurance & that sickens me b/c NO private Insurer should have ANY role in Medicare..... Check EVERY Bill & Every Statement & track what what the Hospital or Doctor charged, what Medicare Approved & what Medicare actually pays & what Supplemental pays..... $322 / Month is close to $4,000 / yr..... that is crazy!

Sounds like you have a wealthier client base. Medigap plans have become a product for folks with higher retirement income or multiple streams of retirement income or a very high Social Security monthly benefit.

Yeah I'd say most elderly folks on Social Security can't afford a supplement plan. They can barely afford plan B alone. The USA treats its elderly like garbage.

I'd choose original medicare too...if I could afford it, sir.

I wish you were my personal assistant you're the guy I've been looking for for months and months and months. Just had an all-out battle with the representative from Anthem who is trying to convince me that staying in my HMO is the best thing I could do for myself and everything in my gut is telling me I need to get out of that program and I don't have a clue how to do that what I wouldn't give for you to be my representative and this guy to be out of my life.

Why do you need to stay with a representative you don't want? Call Keith if you want he may be licenced in your state. Call any other KZbin agents you like. many are licenced in all 50 states. If you don't like someone why would you work with them?

As long as it's communist in the Garment I don't have nothing to do with it

You speak as if all Medicare Advantage plans are HMOs. They are not. There are plenty of PPO MA options. Beware of any advice that uses the word “always”. Get good advice based on your individual circumstances.

My life is so much simpler. I just pay my taxes and when I need medical care, it's free. And since I only go see a doctor when I actually NEED to, I never suffer long wait times, like people with common cold symptoms, but without the common sense to NOT fill the emergencies for nothing. We run a PRIORITY triage... Intelligent people get the point and don't rant over a non-issue for those with real needs. My meds are capped at 90$ per month or 1000$/year, TOTAL. Every month I get beta blockers and HBP meds and it hits me for 55$ out of pocket, on a 200$ bill. Without any need for health insurance or any other coverage... Starting in 2025, dental will also be covered.. We SHARE, because we CARE... Simple... Everybody is taken care of... None of that self-serving "socialist" cat-calling by morons that can't tell you the definition of socialism or communism (or a Republic for that matter).

As they say - be careful what you wish for. Gov't run healthcare doesn't sound so great.

Forgot about the $170.10/month part B premium and the $20-$50/month for the drug plan. You should be more honest man. Original Medicare and a supplement are only good for people who can afford $300/month per person for health insurance.
@brocklanders69692 жыл бұрын
Even with a $0 premium MA plan, most people still have to pay the $170 Part B premium. Some low income people can get it waived.
